Discuss Acts 7 Page 5

My personal belief is that one can pray to both God & His Son Jesus Christ. Even though I generally address God my Father in prayer, I also find that I can speak to Jesus, to thank Him & praise Him. Why I say this is because in our new relationship with the Godhead, God is our Father & Jesus is our Brother. Just as one would seek the help & advice from an earthly father & maybe the understanding & support of an earthly brother, we can even see God & His Son in a similar way, praying to them, praising them, & seeking help. And we should also be able to pray to the Holy Spirit residing in us, especially in those times of trial & testing or for strength & comfort.

As well, we see in Scripture that people prayed to Jesus. You can look at these verses: 1 Corinthians 1:1,2 (calling upon the Lord Jesus' Name); 2 Corinthians 12:8,9 (Paul's thorn in the flesh); John 9:38 (Jesus was worshipped); Revelation 5:8-13 (Jesus worshipped in Heaven as God is); Acts 7:59; Acts 9:6 & many more.

And No, you don't need to speak in other tongues to experience re-birth. Re-birth is effected by God's Spirit as soon as you realize that you're a sinner & that the only hope of your forgiveness & salvation is by coming to the Cross of Christ where He gave His Life in your place. Once you repent of your sins, calling upon the Name of the Lord ( Romans 10:13), God hears your prayer (because it was He by His Spirit that drew you to this point of anguish & need to be saved). And 'all who come to Him He will in no wise cast away, or reject' ( John 6:37). God then indwells you by His Spirit making you a new woman with a clean heart with new & holy desires to please Him with your life. His Spirit also gives us gifts, some to speak with new tongues, & other gifts ( 1 Corinthians 12:7-11. Also see verses 28-31), but to speak in other languages is not a requirement or proof of your rebirth experience & of the Holy Spirit in you. A changed life, heart, will & true love for all, characterize a Christian.

Hi Cris, here is my reply

Answer to your questions, back up with biblical proofs:

Colossians 1:16 - 17 16For by him (JESUS) were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him (JESUS), and for him (JESUS): 17And he (JESUS) is before all things, and by him (JESUS) all things consist.

1 John 1:3 Context 1That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life (JESUS); 2(For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) 3That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

Mark 16:19 19So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.

Luke 22:69 68And if I also ask you, ye will not answer me, nor let me go. 69Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.

Acts 7:56 56And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.

Romans 8:34 34Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

    Hebrews 10:12 12But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

1 Peter 3:22 22Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.

    Perspective Helps Us Understand God

    Old Testament = God is a Spirit, invisible to the naked eye. Attributes are: Omnipotent - all powerful, can do anything nothing is impossible; omnipresent - is everywhere;
  • Chris - In Reply on Deuteronomy 18 - 3 years ago
So I think I understand you: that God was alone in Heaven in eternity & it was Him & the cherubim that were involved in the creative work. And then when it came time for Jesus' appearance, you said "God manifested as a man name Jesus in New Testament; God as the Holy Spirit in Resurrection - all of these titles only belongs to Jesus."

So to the first point & to my first response to you on this matter: how do you understand Colossians 1:16,17 & John 1:1-3 & following verses?

To your second point: if God is now manifested as Jesus, & I assume you say that there is presently no God in Heaven except Jesus Who now God, then what do you make of Mark 16:19, Luke 22:69, Acts 7:56, Romans 8:34, Hebrews 10:12, 1 Peter 3:22, & others. I'm confused.

I suppose the Trinity issue doesn't come up until these points are dealt with first. Thank you.

These verses should be sufficient to show that the risen Jesus Christ is now at the Father's right Hand.

If you type the word in the Search Box at the top left of the Main Page, it will give you your answer. As it happens, the word 'Church' appears 114 times.

However, the word 'Church' is from the Greek, 'Ekklesia', & this means 'an assembly or congregation'. So in Acts 7:38, Stephen, when testifying to the Jews, mentioned "the church (which was) in the wilderness", referring to the Israelite congregation that had fled the bondage in Egypt. So the 'Church' that was born from Jesus Christ is only seen in the New Testament, but it can have a broader meaning to any assembling of people or congregation, specifically those meeting as part of a religious group or gathering.

And then one sees a group such as the "Church of Scientology" who regard themselves as a Church (because of the primary meaning of 'Ekklesia'), but has almost no reference in its teaching to anything of God & Christ leaving such belief to the conviction of its adherents.
  • Chris - In Reply on Genesis 9 - 3 years ago
That was interesting to read Jay. I do agree with your understanding of the soul & spirit of man. I could further state that the soul finds its fuller meaning in the personality & emotions of the individual, hence the soul, being an immaterial part, not only reveals the life of a person, but also his/her character.

'Ruach' is clearly different to 'psykhe' & as you stated also comes from God giving life (breath) to the body which clothes the soul. As well, I understand man's spirit from God also functions as the means that God, by His Spirit, can communicate with man. Romans 8:16 speaks of this interaction. The spirit in us enables us to look beyond the immediate & temporal, to the One Who brought it all together, though many today stifle it preferring to understand their world & themselves, only through the soul (by reasoning & logic).

Yet you write that on death, man's spirit doesn't return to God, whether to life or eternal death, rather it remains in 'limbo'. Am I understanding you correctly? Could you provide some Bible references or expand this thought further? Why I ask this, is that Eccl 12:7 which you quoted, speaks of this returning, or else, that man's spirit has to have a destiny, whether in a body or in a location. I understand the Ecclesiastes reference suggesting that, just as God gives a new born baby a spirit, so at death of that body, the spirit is then released & returned back to God - like a loan from God to enjoy Him & His creation. We have the accounts of the destinies of the rich man & Lazarus ( Luke 16:19-31), the thief on the Cross ( Luke 23:39-43) & Stephen's cry at his execution ( Acts 7:55-60). All seem to suggest that our spirits remain alive, active & accountable whether in life in the body or cessation of earthly existence.

Carl, if you would permit me to take up your Scripture reference to a similar one in Matthew 21:42-44 as there is a little more given there.

Jesus was speaking to the chief priests & elders (v23), concerning the condition of their hearts, the reception they gave Him & the judgement of God they rightly deserved (vv 33-46).

In verse 42, Jesus speaks of the cornerstone of a building, which in those days, would have been a larger stone, with special markings that made it important & warranted a place of prominence. But in the parable, Jesus, as the Stone that the builders (the Jews which should have recognized the Messiah & built upon from His coming) rejected (rejected & crucified Him), the same One that they rejected, God had made the Cornerstone (of a new building, not of Jews, but those who would believe in Jesus Christ).

Verse 43: The Kingdom of God, which should have been the joy & presence of God amongst His people, were taken from them, as being unworthy, & given to another which would bring forth good fruit & not rotten fruit as the Jews did in their treatment of their Messiah.

Verse 44: upon this Cornerstone from God, if any should fall over this prominent Stone (i.e. be injured by their disobedience even though Jesus was there with them, & tripping on it, being made destitute & miserable), their injury would be severe. But there would still be hope if they learned from their hurt. However, to those that the Stone should fall upon, they would be ground to powder (the final judgement of the Messiah-rejecting Jews will be so severe, that it is likened to a complete desolation, with their remains blown into the winds as powder disperses). The picture here is something they would understand: of one about to be stoned for a crime - the witness would first cast the first blow to kill him, but if that didn't do the job, then he would be put to death by a large stone dropped on the head. This was probably how Stephen died at the hands of Saul ( Acts 7:58-60).
  • CIRCUMCISION IS NOW IN THE HEART - In Reply on Song of Solomon 5 - 4 years ago
Comment by Mishael: In the Bible circumcision was the sign of being in covenant with God. In the New Testament Paul had to teach that circumcision was now in the heart. (Stoned many times for that). A new and better Covenant was secured by Jesus on the Cross; ratified by His own blood.

NOTE: Women are to be circumcised in the heart too. Salvation is a decision of the heart. Coming to Christ for Salvation, circumcises your heart and you are in covenant with God. Blameless.

    OLD TESTAMENT

    Genesis 17:10

This is my COVENANT which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised.

    Genesis 17:11

And ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the COVENANT betwixt me and you.

    Genesis 17:12

And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of thy seed.

    Genesis 17:13

He that is born in thy house, and he that is bought with thy money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.

    Deuteronomy 10:16

Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your HEART and be no more stiffnecked.

    NEW TESTAMENT

    Acts 7:51

Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in HEART AND EARS, you do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do you (now).

Jesus called himself The Son of Man.

    Acts 7:56

And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.

    Hebrews 2:6

But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou visitest him?

    Revelation 1:13

And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.

    Revelation 14:14

And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle.

This is the Son of Man! How can we with our unclean lips, speak His name without bowing the knee?

It blows my brain how people do not reverence Him. Debate him. Chip away at his Deity. He is who HE said he is.

At least Isaiah 6:1-8. We see a PROPER response to the Lord of Glory.

Also, I spotted another LET US scripture in Isaiah 6:8.

Hi Chris, I'll try to add into the ongoing discussion. Let's consider Paul in Romans 7. It appears that Paul starts giving his account of his own past starting in verse 7, as here he starts mentioning "I" as in I had not known sin. He then goes on to tell us his past experiences with sin and the warring within. I do not see a change of historical present until a change seen in Ch. 8 where Paul then begins declaring no condemnation and freedom as a current status.

Judas may or may not be a great example, so let's stick with Paul instead. He was present when Stephen was stoned, mentioned in Acts 7:58. Acts 8:1 Saul or Paul is mentioned again as consenting to Stephen's death, and having authority to apprehend Christians, sending them to jail, persecuting the Church. Ac. 9, Saul/Paul was converted from sinful to saved. He acknowledged the Lord, and though it's not fully described, Paul repented there. Ac. 9:17 Ananias prayed with Brother Saul who had to be saved to be a spiritual brother, received sight and was filled with the Holy Ghost, sanctification only does this. Paul then begins to preach in vs 20. From now on, Paul no longer took Christians prisoner but taught apn preached about Jesus and salvation from sin. Also note that the Jews that once held Saul in admiration for capturing Christians, now fought against him, and sought to kill him. Salvation and sanctification change people so much that friends of the past look and act differently towards the saved. Paul was feared by the apostles, but later they recognized the changes God had made in Paul's heart and actions. There is a need that others can see the change in a person that is saved.

Similar to Adam due to my saved and sanctified experience? Yes, excepting Adam and Eve were created sinless and I had to gain sinless life via repentance to be saved and then later to be sanctified to be rid of the inherited sin passed on from Adam's fallen state.

I'll add more later. Hope this helps some. Good day to all.

When reading the Word & its use of this word, 'heaven', I see it applied in four ways:

    a. the sky/atmosphere or troposphere & this goes to an altitude of approx. fifteen miles. Genesis 6:7, James 5:18 as examples.

    b. the celestial (outer space) of planets, stars & constellations. Deuteronomy 4:19, Matthew 24:29.

    c. the Place of God's Abode. Hebrews 8:1, Acts 7:56.

    d. the new Heaven (& Earth) that is yet to come after all the corrupt Earth & Sky are dissolved. Isaiah 65:17, Revelation 21:1.

Please remember that the sons of God have come for the pulling down of this world's 'Strongholds', religion being the strongest of them all ( 2 Cor. 10:4; Luke 11:21-23).

When it comes to the Medical Profession, please know that the believers live by faith, as the true and living God of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob is their guide in all things. Remember how God took care of a host of 2m people for forty years. He fed them and provided them with water and other essentials. Even their shoes and garments didn't wear out. Also remember that out of the original group that crossed the Red Sea only Joshua & Caleb crossed the Jordan River. All the rest died in the wilderness, while only the new generation crossed the Jordan.

    On MATTHEW 9:16,17

By nature every person is born in sin through the sinful seed of their natural fathers and conditioned therein ( 1 Peter 1:23). For that reason and in order to become a son of God, which are born of God, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God, a person must be 'Born Again' ( John 1:12,13; 3:3-7; 1 John 3:9; 5:4).

By attending a man-made institution a few hours a week ( Acts 7:48; 17:24), does not mean that a person can make a claim that they are followers of Christ and 'Born Again'. That is falsehood, as in truth they follow after an image of a false god and a false Christ ( Matthew 24:24; Mark 13:22; Gal. 4:8; Rev. 12:9). This is how Satan has transformed Himself into an angel of light ( 2 Cor. 11:13-15).

Only through 'True Repentance' will God be able to reveal Himself, and adopt you as His sons and daughters ( Rom. 8:15,23; 2 Cor.6:18; Gal. 4:5; Eph. 1:5; Hebr. 12:5; 1 John 3:1).

The word 'Repent' means a lot more than what people by nature have been conditioned to believe. It is the key principle of all the teachings of Jesus Christ and the axiom (basis) of the Word of God and a prerequisite and primary requirement for the salvation of mankind. It actually means the changing of spirits - to turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan unto God ( Acts 26:18).

For a better understanding and the 'spiritual truth' of what it means to repent, and learn how and by whom mankind has been deceived ( Rev. 12:9), and what people must do to be reunited with the true and living God, we invite you to seek Him according to the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive ( John 14:17).

You need not that any man teach you ( Isaiah 54:13; 6:45; 1 John 2:27), It is only by revelation of God that you will come to know Christ ( Daniel 12:4,9; Amos 3:7; Matthew 16:17; Luke 2:26; Romans 16:25; 1 Cor. 2:10; Gal. 1:16; Eph. 3:3,5; Rev. 1:1). It is a narrow way that leadeth unto 'Life', and few there be that find it ( Matthew 7:14).

No believer has ever dared to judge himself and claim to be 'Born Again'. The Word of God teaches us that you must be 'Born Again'. Your experience is typical of a religious experience based on man-made doctrines. It is also referred to as self-transformation ( 2 Cor. 11:13-15). You are still wearing the same garment that by nature you were born with but were not transformed by God.

Our message therefore remains the same: Ye must repent. The repentance process and the transformation and conversion by God takes many years as God teaches all those that come to Him. God taught a host of approximately two million people for forty years. Only Joshua and Caleb were left of the original group that crossed the Red Sea. All the rest died in the wilderness. How long the transformation and conversion process takes depends on the journey of every person. Dianne & I started our journey in 1984 and still submit our bodies as a living sacrifice each day for the transformation and renewal of our minds ( Romans 12:1,2). We know, we are slow learners.

Like every other religious experience your 'truck' experience was just your high-minded thinking. That is not how a person becomes 'Born of God'.

    In His Service.

    On 1 JOHN 3:1

By nature every person is born in sin through the sinful seed of their natural fathers and conditioned therein ( 1 Peter 1:23). For that reason and in order to become a son of God, which are born of God, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God, a person must be 'Born Again' ( John 1:12,13; 3:3-7; 1 John 3:9; 5:4).

By attending a man-made institution a few hours a week ( Acts 7:48; 17:24), does not mean that a person can make a claim that they are followers of Christ and 'Born Again'.

2:10; Gal. 1:16; Eph. 3:3,5; Rev. 1:1).
