Paul was giving the people in Laodicea their props about their faith in verse 5,7,12. how it they were rooted and stablished in Christ Jesus.

We are not under the Mosaic law anymore. We are indeed under grace. Jesus came and died for us in order to fulfill the law that grace may abound. We should not be teaching the Mosaic law with grace. Because he came so the law would be fulfilled . So, we can't just pick the law back up and mix grace in. Otherwise, we make the death of our Lord and Savior null and void. The Mosaic law was impossible to keep that's why sacrifices had to be made to cleanse their sins. The Lord was a sacrificial lamb once and for all. Colossians 2:14 tells us that the handwritten ordinances that were against us were blotted out and taken out of the way by the nailing of it to his cross. So, this tells us plainly that the laws were done away with on the cross by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

When we are tempted and under attack from the fiery darts of the enemy we must remember to walk in Christ always, when we have Christ in mind we notice these things happening so put on the full armour of God and walk with him. Surrender yourself to the Lord, don't lean on your own understanding and take up your cross. Hallelujah!

We only need to ask and pray to God through Crist to give us the true knowledge and understanding. Knowledge of this world is stupidity and confusion and serves interests of different master, Satan. Let us always search for knowledge in the Bible and ask God to give us the right understainding. In the name of Christ, Dejvi.

In the old testament circumcision was key in defying an Israelites BUT today baptism is key n defining a Christian. Therefore l still think Baptism took the place of circumcision ... If read with Vs 10 12.

One has to look at the entire chapter of Colossians 2 and what it is saying to the Spiritual person, having been completed in him and dwelling all the fullness of the Godhead bodily in putting off the body of sin of the flesh by circumcision of Christ, being buried with him in baptism, risen with him thru faith, having being forgiven of all trespasses, blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary against us, nailing it to the cross, he triumphed over them in it, then he said let no man judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of a holyday, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath, which is a shadow of things to come, just as Christ healed on the Sabbath, and did things contrary to the Pharisees understanding Paul is saying we too must operate not in the flesh but in the spirit putting away the ordinances and moving on.

Water Baptism is the washing away the sin's after you have been Born Again!!!!!!
  • Jaala on Colossians 2:14 - 9 years ago
wow, it is obvious that too many people take God, our Creator and holy Father's Truth out of context! yes He definitely freed us of the guilt from the great Accuser. being born into sin is clearly a statement that shows who's side we are on early on in our immaturity. Jesus took away our marriage to Satan and set us free so that we are subjected unto the Father in heaven just as He is. that is not a burden but a blessing to follow after the greatest, most perfect being of all time and a promise that we are able to take after our holy Father! after all, the 10 commandments are the perfect character of God! who would ever wish to delete them aside from God's enemy, the great Accuser, Satan himself?

Paul's message enlighten me that even the elect, their philosophies can have a tint of vain deceit and can misled us from the true teaching of Christ. Just like believing in feng shui and other beliefs from different culture. We can be a bondage from this philosophy of their elect.
  • Kevin Hughes on Revelation 22 - 9 years ago
That's right, no more ten commandments, but we are under Jesus law now, also look at Colossians 2:14, and acts 15:24, very clear that the law is done with, but by no means are we free to sin.

we need to study words in the Word. and know the history of the time. First if you study the words, it is referring to war garments, something prepared, i.e. any apparatus as an implement, utensil, dress, vessel or weapon :--armour -bearer , artillery, bag, carriage, furnish, and males in armies of the heathen around them, would put a dress womans robe, over their armor to sneak attack enemy, it was a disguise to get in close to attack. And this is part of the law of moses which was nailed to the cross according to Colossians 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross there are various 'laws ' in the bible, the law of moses is gone, it was a civil code for that nation alone, and ceremonial laws which were done away with at the cross, their are health laws that we are not 'under the law ' but we should follow for our own health sake, and the moral law, the 10 commandments which are eternal. SO where in the NT is this issue addressed ? and even in this Deut 22 it is not what everyone thinks.
  • Matthew on Colossians 2:8 - 9 years ago
The verse is very plain and blunt, it first says, "Beware lest any man..., " it is always mankind that we are to beware of, but why? The Bible says the heart is deceitfully wicked above all things. The heart of man is full of vile imaginations, which will try to justify anything it can as long as it can. This verse also says, "spoil, " and again why? If you have a box of apples, would you keep a spoiled apple among the good ones? Of course not, so why then should the child of GOD have company among the false philosophies of this world? If a Christian is not rooted in the word of GOD, then the good fruit won 't recognize the bad fruit. But let us notice the end conclusion of the matter which discredits all the idealogies before it. "And not after Christ, " if anything in this world by any man 's words does not lean after or go towards Christ our Savior then we must beware and cast out those things from among us. Amen! Lest we be spoiled like the bad fruit, being mixed together.

The word of God that is given by God ,which is Jesus is to bring redemption to our mortal body if we allow the Holy Spirit to quicken us with that work.Being firmly rooted not carried away by the worldly pattern and distractions .Then will full redemption be made manifest.Worshiping God in Spirit and in truth not wilfully as the Spirit do not work in mans will but the will of God Almighty.

Jesus himself is the word of God we must only follow and obey his words and believe that He is the Son of the Living God. God will bless our understanding when we seek the kingdom of God first into our lives. All things that we need will be added. God is love and his burden is light we must offer our life to Christ without him we cant do anything.. Thanks be to God

In relation to verse 14 many people say the Old testament legalism and Torah was nailed to the cross and therefore not relative anymore. This verse points out that I had a debt written in my own handwriting against me because of my sin. This is the document that was nailed to the cross for me by my Savior. Therefore paying or redeeming me from a debt I could not pay. One must realize that the Father keeps books! Thank you Yeshua - Jesus is Salvation.

I think verse 20 means that if you are in Christ, and not of the world, you don 't have to follow man 's ordinances or doctrines if they don 't line up with God 's.
