    Dear PA,

I never said that the word "Triune" was found in the scriptures? I was using the word triune as another word to reference Godhead.

There are three persons in the Godhead; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost; and these three are one God, they are the same in substance, equal in power and glory. The word "triune" is sometimes used to refer to this Godhead. Godhead is found in the scriptures.

    Colossians 2:9

"For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily."

    Merriam Webster Dictionary:

    Definition of godhead

1 : divine nature or essence

    2 capitalized

    a : GOD sense 1

b : the nature of God especially as existing in three persons.

So, Godhead is referring to three persons correct?

Triune also refers to 3 persons.

    Merriam Webster Dictionary:

    triune adjective

    Definition of triune

    : three in one:

a : of or relating to the Trinity

    the triune God

b : consisting of three parts, members, or aspects

If you find this concept difficult to understand, you are not alone.

    b. Colossians 2:16

Your reference to including the 7th day weekly Sabbath in with the Mosaic sabbaths (plural) included in ordinances of the Law of Moses does not stand up to close scrutiny.

The italic of the 'days' in verse 16 emphasizes the plurality of the multiple sabbaths in the law of Moses which is distinct to the Moral 10 commandment law of God.

Most respectfully your reference to Colossians 2:14-17 is a mish mash including an implied reference to Hebrews chapters 10:1 and a misrepresentation of Colossians chapter 2's application only to the law of Moses..

The entire paragraph starting at Colossian 2:14 and ending in verse 17 clearly shows that the reference Paul is making is limited to the 'Handwriting of ordinances' which was contrary to us, nailing it to His cross'. The reference confirmed in verse 16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days" is a clear reference to the law of Moses and limits this reference only to the Law of Moses and NOT the Moral 10 Commandment Law of God.

How do we know this for sure? Because the Law of Moses was:

Written by Moses using a scribe who wrote on paper using handwriting of The book - Deuteronomy 31:24

Contains the codes for ordinances & ceremonies (including feast & Holy days etc), sacrificial ceremony, health, civil laws, treatment of animals, treatment of slaves etc - Leviticus 18: 3 & 4, 1 Corinthians 9:9

Whereas the 10 commandment Moral of God makes no reference to Drinks, meat offerings, ordinances, new moons or an holy day and does not contain multiple sabbaths - but the Law of Moses contains ALL of these.

The reference you make to Colossians 2 verse 17 again confirms that this cannot refer to the Moral law of God and therefore cannot include the weekly sabbath as being nailed to the cross.

How so? Because as you say it was 'a shadow' - this shadow of a law concept links this scripture verse 17 with Hebrews 10:1

    Page 1.

Thank you for your response Charrisse. As much as I appreciated the manner in which you presented your arguments, I would raise the following:

    a. what Scriptures would you use to show that Noah or Abraham observed the Sabbath?

    b. Colossians 2:16: "Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days" (days in italics). In the Greek, it is written as 'Sabbaths'. And though there was the 7th day Sabbath, there were also other five other Sabbaths that were observed. I believe that all five plus the 7th Day were referred to here, but Paul is stating that not observing these things (in v16) should not dismay them as those under judgement from others. Why? Verse 17: "Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ": all these (food, drink, moons, Sabbaths) were only a shadow - Jesus removed that shadow, fulfilling all things.

    c. Which then leads us to Hebrews chapter 4, where many Israelites died having failed to enter into Rest (the Promised Land) because of their unbelief. Then we read that, as God rested on the 7th Day (v4), there must be a future day of rest for His people. Joshua (v8) couldn't give them that rest even though many made it through to Canaan. Even David (coming after Joshua), spoke of God promising another day of rest (for those who've not hardened their hearts as earlier): vv6-8; Psalm 95:7-11. "There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God" (v9).

    d. So are we talking about a Sabbath Rest here or a Spiritual Rest that would come to those who no longer are wearily trying to justify themselves before God by trusting in the Law to be acceptable? The Rest those in Christ now enjoy have not only crucified the flesh but have their trust & hope in the One Who was crucified for them, to put an end to the Law that only brought death & punishment & never gave Rest.

Fully agree bro Giannis. In respect to Colossians 2:14, "Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross", I would also add Ephesians 2:15, "Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace".

Whether referring to the "handwriting of ordinances" or "the law of commandments contained in ordinances", you would know that the same word is used, 'dogmasin' (decrees, edicts, ordinances). It's sometimes claimed that only those 'other' commandments have been abolished by virtue of the Cross & not the Decalogue. Though there was nothing wrong or at fault with any of God's Commandments ( Romans 7:12), it's present application & implications have ceased, because Christ's Sacrifice has nailed it ALL on the Cross. If they were still applicable & to be obeyed to prove obedience, then it shows that Jesus' Death didn't work towards salvation & God's Gift of Grace is a non-event & the whole Plan was a failure. ( Romans 8:3).

But our only attendance now is to Jesus & to His Spirit Who brings out the fullness of God's Requirements for His Blood-bought, giving us both the desire & power to learn & apply them to every situation in life. Therefore, sins of murder, theft, adultery, etc. are no longer clear finite physical acts of transgression, but now the Spirit tells us that they find their root in the heart & can even encompass a much wider range of applications than what is implied in the Decalogue. Jesus came to deal with the heart of sin, not the head knowledge of it. Using any of the commandments as a yardstick of our obedience has limited use for knowledge of Jewish laws & requirements. They have no bearing on the Jew or Gentile who has come to the Cross & under the New Covenant ( Hebrews 8:6,7,13). Blessings brother.

Hi Giannis. Colossians 2:16 proclaims very clearly to not Judge others for the Sabbath (or any Holy day) in which they choose to celebrate, or whether or not they even keep the Sabbath in honor of God. In the 5992 years of Creation since Adam, God's New Moon's have not changed; His Sabbath has not changed; and His obligations for us as New Testament believers is very clear on the issue of keeping the Sabbath Holy. Respectfully Giannis, Colossians 2:16 is not matter of your own interpretation. Best, Robert
  • Robert on Isaiah 58 - 2 years ago
The Bible teaches us that Sabbath is based on the lunar cycle and the original Hebrew Calendar: New Moon is Day 1, and Sabbaths are Days 8, 15, 22, and 29. The actual Sabbath is neither Saturday or Sunday - That said, worship God on whatever day you want, and stop condemning others who worship their Sabbath on their own days and times ( Colossians 2:16).

    My Fellow Believers:

You would not believe that the Wisdom of Solomon is revealed to His saints as it is written:

THERE IS POWER IN THE WORD OF GOD!!!!!

I prayed for wisdom and for those who truly have pure heart, will receive that wisdom, knowledge and understanding. I say that because when I read the Wisdom of Solomon, most of them are already imputed in my heart without knowing it. See Colossians verses below:

Trust, believe and have faith in what Jesus did on the cross. For the blood Jesus Christ shed is just like the OT Lamb without blemish sacrifices. Now He is that Lamb without sin and He already died for us ALL. Jesus Christ already won the Devil. He gave us a free gift: the gift of grace; the righteousness of faith; the grace of God.

Apostle Paul is the last Apostle God revealed what we Gentiles need to do ( the Book of Romans to Philemon).

Those who understand the mysteries of Christ/ God will walk in the Spirit of God.

    Romans 8:9

But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

You will know these people through the fruit of their spirit:

Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance

    Ephesians 5:9

(For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)

    Also make no mistake 1 Corinthians 13:2 ; Read verses 3-8; 13:

And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

    Colossians 2:2

    That their hearts might be comforted, being knit in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;

    Colossians 2:3

In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

    Be saved: 1 Corinthians 15:1-4.

The Bible literally refers to God as Godhead, so the few who are uncomfortable with that term can simply use the word Godhead instead. There's a mountain of scriptures showing the dynamic and divinity of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. We're here to defend Jesus Christ and anyone trying to discredit or smear His divinity. We should all pray for wisdom, understanding and truth as we read the scriptures so that we are not mislead by the enemy and buy into things that merely fulfill our itching ears.

Trinity, in Christian doctrine, the unity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as three persons in one Godhead. The doctrine of the Trinity is considered to be one of the central Christian affirmations about God. ROMANS 1:20

Comment: Beloved, the word Trinity is not in the King James Bible.

Another religion penned that word. It defines as, THREE. Like Tres, in Spanish means three. Etc

Romans 1:20 clearly shows that Godhead is Father, Son, Holy Spirit. Three in One.

    Ephesians 4:5

One Lord, one faith, one baptism

    1 Timothy 2:5

    For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

    1 Corinthians 12:13

For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into ONE Spirit.

    Romans 1:20

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and GODHEAD, so that they are without excuse:

    Colossians 2:9

For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

    GENESIS 1:1

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

2 And the earth was without form, and void; and DARKNESS was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God MOVED upon the face of the waters.

3 And God said, Let there be LIGHT: and there was light. [Jesus is Light]

    God started Time, for man

    God Made, Genesis 1:7

    Romans 1:20

We need to put our faith in God NO MATTER WHAT PEOPLE write in science websites. A mission to a planet will not explain creation. Dead planets have water beds; once having had water. But observations have proved no other planets have abundant water, visible, like Earth.

This is Gods Purpose. That we follow His Son, Jesus Christ in salvation with the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

All of the Beauty and Wonder of a self sustaining EARTH, should help us trust God and follow Jesus.

Circular arguments on this topic remind me of an Abbott and Costello "who's on first" skit. In case anyone isn't aware, here are some scriptures describing one God with three components: father, son, and holy spirit. We likely will never 100% comprehend God nor should we expect to, but the fact is the Bible describes God as a triune Godhead, uses plural terms, says the three are "one", and I will trust God's Word over man's word. Christians will keep sharing the truth of the scriptures everytime someone tries to challenge God's word.

    Hi Corey,

If you sinned voluntarily, or involuntarily regarding your marriage simple pray for forgiveness, and you will be forgiven. If we believe in Jesus, and ask for forgiveness, all of our sins will be forgiven - accept for ONE sin - and that sin is: blaspheme of the Holy Spirit. Here is Jesus telling us exactly this, in scripture below.below

    Mark 3:28-29

"Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:" "But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation:"

Again there is much scripture that reinforces forgiveness of ALL sin.

    Colossians 2:13

"And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;"

    1 John 1:9

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

Ask for forgiveness, and move on with your life, in a goodly and Godly manner. Stay close to your bible and God.

    God Bless.

The word Triune simply means three.

Can you exist without God's breath and God's Spirit?

    The answer is NO.

God spoke ALL THE WORDS before the foundation of the world, then RESTED, those words are being FULFILLED in the ORDER that he SPOKE THEM.

Christ rested when he finished speaking those words, you DESTINY, that you will be conformed into the IMAGE OF CHRIST, are inside those words spoken before the foundation of the world.

CEASE FROM YOUR WORKS and enter into the TRUE SABBATH, YOU WILL BE THE IMAGE OF CHRIST.

1 Corinthians 15:58 ....always abounding in the WORK OF THE LORD (those words spoken before the foundation of the world) ...

Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this one thing (God's words will be fulfilled), that He (THE WORD) which hath began a good work IN YOU WILL PERFORM IT until the the DAY (you become the IMAGE) of Jesus Christ.

    God Bless YOU!

    hello, Man of God

The consistent teaching of the apostles and the church over the centuries is that God is a unity of three Persons in One Being, the

Father Son and Holy Spirit. All three Persons share the same eternal, unchanging, infinite divine nature. All three have always

existed. The first person is the Father of the second Person, the Son. The third person is the Holy Spirit. There are not three

Gods, but One in three persons. The Son is eternally begotten of the Father, having never having a beginning. Neither does the

Holy Spirit have a beginning, but with the Father in this Godhead are eternal, self-existent, and totally divine. This is a mystery

to us, but the Scriptures talks of the Godhead. One God/Three Persons, all equally divine, all equally eternal, all equally infinite,

all equally unchanging, all equally complete, all equally perfect.

    Read John 10:30 Romans 1-20 Colossians 2:9

The word Trinity came through the Catholic religion. Triune means three.

God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit are called THE GODHEAD in scripture; in the approved KING JAMES BIBLE.

There are many, many scriptures showing the Godhead working together; and speaking to each other.

Paul clears it up in ROMANS 1:

    18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who HOLD THE TRUTH in unrighteousness;

19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath SHOWED IT unto them.

20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and GODHEAD; so that they are without excuse

21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

[The Scriptures about the Godhead. Sometimes called "Let Us..." in some passages. These scriptures are evidence of all 3 persons of the Godhead speaking to each other.]

    Genesis 1:26, 3:22, 11:7

    Isaiah 6:8

    Romans 1:20

    Colossians 2:9

    Acts 17:27-30

    1 John 5:7

    John 10:30

    (there are many more)

I hope this helps you. Mishael

Praise to our GOD in heaven, The LORD Jesus Christ! By your inclusion of this commentary from the pen of Matthew Henry you have supplied for me a key to the unlocking of the Wisdom of Scripture, which wisdom I could not attain unto, though for 40+ years now, even with pleadings to Him, I have tried by my own devices. God's Wisdom is plain if I will but receive it.

    Dear Brooke.

Go to Matthew 5 and read all chapter. It is Jesus's teaching called The Blessings. Pay attention to verses 21-22, 27-28, 31-32, 33-34, 38-39 etc .Jesus says there " You have heard that it was said by them of old time..." This means it was said to Israeletes by God in the old times (Jesus means Moeses's Law) and Jesus continued "But i say unto you..." . And He changes the Law that was given by God to Moese.. If i was there i would ask Jesus " who are you that you dare change God's Law?" I beleive His answer would be " I am the God who gave that Law and I have the authority to change It" Who else would dare change God's Law but God himself? And you will notice that He changes a lot of commandments. Example given we are not allowed now to swear but people in OT could do that. We are allowed to separate for any reason except for adultery but people in OT could and so on.

Most of the 10 commandments are still valid in NT, actually only the fourth about Sabbath is not valid.

Please read what apostole Paul writes to Colossians 2:16 to christians He asks them not to allow people judge them for not following OT's law including keeping Sabbath. Sabbath is not a christian holiday. Rejecting Sabbath is not a Vatican Doctrine, it was done as long as apostoles were still alive.

It's good to ask those questions so you get the answers you are looking for.

    God Bless You

    Hi Brook.

You said grow spiritual by keeping the law? We can't.

    Galatians 3:2-3.

    Galatians 3:5-7.

    Galatians 3:8-9.

    Galatians 3:10-11.

    Galatians 3:12-14.

    Also read Galatians 4. and

    Galatians 5.

Jesus didn't do away with the Law.

Jesus took on the penalty of the law that brought death.

    Colossians 2:14-17.

In fact it's called the ministry of Death.

Here's a few passages from Paul. at one time he felt the same way you do and set out to kill anyone that followed Jesus.

    2 Corinthians 3:6-11.

Romans 7:10-11. And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death.

For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.

Romans 5:20. Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:

Philippians 3:2-10. Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision.

For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.

Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more:

    Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;

Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.

But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.

Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,

And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

    That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

    Galatians 5:11-12.

    God bless.
