Colossians 3 has many revelations - (a) the place of the Lord Jesus as the right hand 'person' of the father (b)as jointheirs with Christ, the condition to reign with Christ or be where he is is holiness, Lord Jesus declared that the prince of this world checked on him and found no fault. Dos and donts have been spelt out in the chapter. (c)every party in any kind of relationship should realise each party has his/her role to play and play very well for things to go on smoothly - the world todayis full of people who want benefits without responsibility (d)Church workers who constitute a special kind of servants should do everything in the consciuousness that their deeds are open to heavenly master, to do eye-service is to miss the mark, for God cannot be mocked whatever a man sows that he would reap- Gal 6:7
2Timothy2:15, Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. Whatever you want to do it with Gods mind. Do not do eye service.

We are to set of sight on heaven where Jesus is at the right hand of the father, and make sure that all of our relationships of earth are right with God. As Christians we should forgive anyone that may have wronged us, and look to God to repay them for what they have done, for God does not respect man. Also we should do our jobs as unto to the Lord, who shall reward us justly for what we have done. Husbands are to love their wives, and not be bitter toward them. Also fathers are not to provoke their children to wrath. When we do this the world will see what a true christian home looks like, and we will be happy when Jesus returns to take us to heaven to live in our eternal home. So let us rejoice and be heavenly minded, and do the works of him that sent us while it is day, for when night comes no man can work.
When it comes to standards and motives of what we do and say, 3:17 is the yardstick. The purpose of everything we do and say should be to glorify God through Christ Jesus. Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit is our enabler and we should appreciate God always for that. Some of what we do needs extra moral strength and grace: forgiveness, gentleness, perseverance, loving ones enenmies and patiance for instance; without due recourse to the source of power, such couldnt be done at all. This is where the world fails and baffles at christains.
Two, "without me you can do nothing," Jesus said, so in His name we receive the power to do everything unhindered, because only in his name power is, unto salvation and performance.
The verse is to help believers have a renewed mindset to influence what they do and say by way of standards: Chrsit is righteous and everything done and said in his name should be no lesser. Be it office work, shopping, household chores, conversation, scientific and technical endeavours.... having Jesus at the back of ones mind makes a great difference on how you approach everything in life.
We are disciples of Jesus what ever we do should glorify God through Jesus ( 1 Co 10:31), or should be a light (Mathew 5:16 ) shinning in a world at pitch darkness of sin and wickedness. This is one of my several memory scriptures after planning all for the day, meditation upon it keeps me in fellowship without to much ado.
I love the third chapter of Colossians.when you receive the baptism of the holy ghost (the spirit of God that quickens your soul and brings it alive) and find the Body of Christ, that is where you'll find the truth on this chapter of Colos.because you find God's Divine Order, a ministry that has been called and Ordained by God (not by man)according to Ephesians chpt.4 that's where you'll find the truth on all the scriptures.
They that hunger and thrist after Righteous shall be filled; according to the scriptures. Once i received the gift of the Holy Ghost my soul was risen from the dead, and now i can seek those things above, because now im in the Body of Christ, where God is the head of Christ, Christ is head of man, and man is the head of the woman....I can now set my affections on things above and not on things of the earth. my life is hid with Christ in God,my soul can be perfected and one day receive Eternal Life. The scripture says: "you shall know the truth, and the truth shall "make" you free.
First of all in my comments I didn't say anything about rapture. In my reading of the Holy Bible I see the Lord telling His men/disciple/church etc that He comes back so that they could expect His coming. John 14
1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if [it were] not [so], I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, [there] ye may be also.
Hebrews 9:28
So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that LOOK for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation 1 Corinthians 1:7
So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ
1 Thessalonians 2:19
For what [is] our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? [Are] not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming? 1 Thessalonians 3:13
To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the COMING of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints. 1 Thessalonians 5:23
And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and [I pray God] your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the COMING of our Lord Jesus Christ. Colossians 3:4
When Christ, [who is] our life, shall appear, then shall ye also APPEAR with him in glory. Philippians 3:20
For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we LOOK for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ
21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.
1 John 3:2
Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet APPEAR what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. 1 Corinthians 15:23
But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming
1 Thessalonians 4:15 - 17
For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive [and] remain unto the COMING of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Then we which are alive [and] remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
The Church is expecting the coming of the Lord their Savior. We children of light and of the day. We are not going to sleep at all; we are not going to lose our faith.
The coming of the Lord is not as a thief in the night for the Church. The prepared Church is expecting His coming, His saints, His holy ones are awaiting His arrival. They are not going to sleep as the 10 virgins slept (While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.). They are not preserved or kept for the darkness. But those that are choosing to receive Him at night (spiritually speaking) will meet Him when He comes from the wedding. ( And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.).
Amos 5:18
Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what END [is] it for you? the day of the LORD [is] darkness, and not light. Job 36:20
Desire not the night, when people are cut off in their place. John 9:4
I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the NIGHT cometh, when no man can work.
1 Thessalonians 5: 1 - 10
1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
6 Therefore let us not sleep, as [do] others; but let us watch and be sober.
7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.
8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
So I think, we must expect Jesus and receive Him and be with Him forever rather than being part of those who are waiting for the ati-Christ.
Given Paul's tempestuous history and his eventual
deliverance, causes one to the realize, the man
experienced the Grace of God with an intimacy that
only the Word of God can express. The reason he was so adamant about not mixing law with grace is
he knew the law could reveal sin but not deliver
from it. Paul's battle with "religious flesh" was
evident in the seventh chapter of Romans. The eighth chapter gave him deliverance "there is therefore now no condemnation to them which are IN Christ Jesus." That is exactly why he wrote "set your affections on things above, not on things on the earth." Religion is trying to please God. Grace is God pleased with you through Christ.
Paul is warning, not about secular, but other religions. "After the rudiments of the world"; there are religious observations created by Christ for his people to follow, and there are religious observances created by worldly man. We are to stick to those practices created by Jesus. Lent, Christmas, Easter, Sunday sabbath, are all religious traditions and observations created by man. We are to change from the worldly man and repent of worldly ways, and turn to the religion Jesus and His followers observed. You will see what the Word means when it says "The world is the enemy of God" when you follow God's ways.
A study of the GR. will reveal that this verse is present tense and on-going rather than future, as the immediate text also directs. A more proper translation would then be, Whenever Christ, who is our life, is manifest / made to appear, then we also are gloriously lifted up in him. The previous chapter elaborates on manifesting Jesus rather than worldly religion.

Because we belong to Jesus, we should act like Jesus. We can't separate our secular lives from our church lives. Whatever we do or say, we do so in the name of Jesus.
