It would seem that the Babylon operated on a system (a super nation typology). This system almost reminded me of what Hitler was attempting to do. "develop a superior race". These Judean youth were hand picked, re-educated, renamed, cultural(ethnic) cleansing, and was given a dietary change.

Daniel was chosen then he decided - he purposed in his heart not to defile himself. He requested to be exempted from the King 's meal and God brought him favour and tender love with the prince of eunuch. Daniel had faith in God and God delivered they were classified as better than ALL the magicians and astrologers ...WHAT A MIGHT GOD. NO ONE PUTS HIS TRUST IN GOD AND IS EVER PUT TO SHAME. GOD IS FATHFULL

Integrity, faith and courage stood as the bedrocks for Daniel. He could not imagine himself betraying his heritage and person he knew his God and could not give an inch to cowardice because of "cares ". That 's the true spirit of religious sportsmanship.

so why does Strongs concordance say that David 's name means Beloved? and then it say 's for Daniel, God is my Judge? Is Strong 's in Error? Because in the Bible, Daniel seems to mean "Greatly Beloved " Dan 9:23, 10:11, 10:19. Is there anywhere David called beloved by God? I couldn 't find it.

The faith of these youths was made instrumental in overrulling the evil foretold against the Jews Ezekiel 4:13 to the glory of God. Like Moses, Daniel chose rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasure of sin for a season ' ' Heb. 11 :25 To stand alone in your piety among this perverse generation, Beloveth, you really need faith which is unflinching. A faith which is solidly rooted in God 's word a faith like that of Daniel when he refuse the delicacies from the royal kitchen, I quit admit that he was sure that his health was obviously at stake. We shouldn 't place our walk with God by people 's opinion. Bible said ' 'But Daniel made up his mind not to... ' ' it being proposed to him to be brought up in the manner before described, he revolved it in his mind he well weighed it, and considered it with himself, and came to a resolution about it. As heir of God, we shouldn 't in any sense try to pamper nor accommodate it. Great Matthew Henry, in his concise commentary to this verse, he said ' '...it is easier to keep temptation at a distance, than to resist it when near ' '. You may be Holy Ghost filled, but I must tell you, sin can break resistance. This is the more reason why you shouldn 't give place to the devil Ephisians 4:27 . The same reason was why Joseph had to flee ' ' for is dear spiritual life, because he knew that it was sin and he can 't stand before it. Everyday, we must make this prayer of David as our devotional prayer: take away my lust for evil things don 't let me want to be with sinners, doing what they do, sharing their dainties - Psalm 141:4 Blessings and Peace!

Briefly, Daniel was born as God plan to act once more as a reminder that God is great. Just like Abram who through the holy spirit destroyed all idols to show people that indeed they made statues in their houses-disobedience to God. They worshiped these instead of God. as years passby we are going to have different messengers of God to help us leave evil ways. a few will follow, but multitudes will not.

Daniel was a man who took serious his relationship and walk with God. He held the commitment of not eating the meat to take focus and aligned with the father and this is our lesson in chapter one. Stay focus and do not give in to the thing of this world that can and will try to take you off course.

To insight 777, that is definitely one way to see it. However, I believe it was God 's way of showing Melzar as well as Daniel that Daniel was speaking the truth. Pulse doesn 't sound to good to me. Neither does it sound to nourishing. He would have a deficiency in any nutrients not found in the pulse. Yet Daniel was healthier! I think this was purely God 's doing. I don 't think that castration was a part of it. Also, fatter does not necessarily mean no flesh missing. I do not consider myself fat yet I have no flesh missing. I am not meaning to contradict or argue and if you think I am, I apologize.
  • Stephen K. Smith on Daniel 1:8 - 10 years ago
This bible verse contains the mystery of standing for godliness and sanctity, "but Daniel " this means someother youths were there who obliged the offer and went on to be defiled. Daniel didn 't just make the decision from his lips, he settled it in His heart, he thought about it, just like joseph who thought how he would do a wicked thing against his master aNd sin against God. He carefully weighed the consequences of the offer been laid on the table. It was a clear strategy by the devil to rid the young lads daniel and the other fellows of the glory they had attained in the training, because they were said to have been trained in wisdom sciences etc. Imagine the devil giving you a ticket to defile your estate. Daniel had to boldly tell the eunuch, " I am not going to defile myself ". He chose to say NO, we must ask for the grace to walk away from sin and defilement, because Sin stinks and sinks destinies. Peace

A brother in Christ referred the book of Daniel in a conversation among other things but I will share with my famy. It 's seems to be a great book to share with saints and nonbelievers to realize one of Gods many promises that God keeps through of trust and faith he shall keeps. God never change nor does he ever abandon us.

It is important to understand the role of Eunuchs in history. Eunuchs were often close to the royal families as advisors even as military advisors. When young men were defeated in war and chosen to be taken to the court of the King as advisors, first they were castrated. This helped assure the king that no matter how smart they were, they could not overthrow the king and set up a dynasty of their own. Also it was a symbol of complete submission to the king. Daniel was chosen for his intelligence, the king wanted to know everything about his defeated enemy. He also wanted to know scientific secrets. The kings meat and wine are the kings laws and beliefs. The law was in place that all slaves that were to be accepted into the kings court must be made a eunuch. That is the reason why an eunuch was placed over Daniel and his friends to instruct them of the kings law and to carry out that law. Daniel was blessed by God and was able to convince the master Eunuch and the King that he could be a servant of the king without this punishment. It seems that the fact that Daniel followed religious laws and not carnal laws of government put the king at ease that Daniel would never try to take over his government or harm him. Therefore the flesh of Daniel and his friends was fatter, meaning no flesh was missing, than the other slaves that had been taken to the kings court.

The history of Eunuchs in this time frame is interesting. When young men were defeated in war and chosen to be taken to the court of the king as advisors first they were castrated. This helped assure the king that no matter how smart they were, they could not overthrow the king and set up a dynasty of their own. Daniel was chosen for his intelligence, the king wanted to know all that Daniel knew. The kings meat and wine are his laws and beliefs. The law in place was that Daniel should be made an eunuch. That is why a eunuch was placed to instruct him, to carry out the law. Daniel was blessed by God and was able to convince the king that he could be a servant of the king without this punishment. Therefore his flesh was fatter, meaning no flesh was missing, than other servants of his kind.

Contrary to popular belief that The Lord is not interested in helping us with "earthly " wisdom, this verse shows that He is more than willing to help every student in any sphere of learning or academic venture to succeed! Coupled with James 1 5, this should bring joy and relief to students everywhere!
