Discuss Ecclesiastes 8

    Judgment is coming

    First Timothy 5:24 states:

Some men's sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after.

What is interesting is the next verse which contrasts this with good works that also become clear even if they start off being hidden.

The effects of sin are what is known as bad fruit. The cause of sin is of course from a corrupt and fallen nature (see Jeremiah 17:9 on the state of a human heart without saving grace).

    James 3:6 states this:

And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

This figurative expression no doubt will eventually lead to one's destruction in fire; as well as the destruction of the earth in like manner as we see stated in 2 Peter 3:10 and numerous other verses. God made everything good; but the fall of man led to death for all forms of life; as well as even the stars not being pure in His sight ( Job 25:5 seems to corroborate this with Job 15:15). He is going to create therefore a new heaven and earth where righteousness dwells ( 2 Peter 3:13 and see Revelation 21 and 22.)

God had to bring a total cure for the total corruption in what was made originally pure in His sight (see Ecclesiastes 7:29). This brought Christ part of the Godhead to personally die as our atonement and also of course to restore all nature from the fall which consummates when He returns and eventually at the end of the Millennium when the last enemy death is destroyed ( 1 Cor. 15:26). Judgment comes to the angelic realm who fell after Lucifer's rebellion. Some have already been judged ( 1 Peter 3:19-20 also read book of Jude). The rest of mankind; of course lives on borrowed time and because God is patient to ensure all His elect come to Him people try to get away with all they can ( Ecclesiastes 8:11).

A spoonful of sugar won't help this medicine go down; God's love will

    The mercy of God

"It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not." ( Lamentations 3:22)

...and in the wilderness where you saw how the LORD your God carried you, as a man carries his son, in all the way that you went until you came to this place.' ( Deuteronomy 1:31)

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. ( Romans 5:8)

The mercy of God and His lovingkindness are something that never pass; or grow old. It is something to daily praise Him for no matter what the circumstances as we know that we shall indeed be in His presence someday; and out of these old bodies whether by Rapture or Resurrection. He has secured us for all eternity. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. ( Psalm 103:12). As believers he has replaced our heart of stone with a heart of flesh ( Ezekiel 36:26). His children are sanctified and inevitably glorified ( Romans 8:30). Whether we consider the Israelites physically delivered from Egypt's bondage to the Promised Land; or our own delivery from the earth to heaven the Spirit seals believers with this "down payment" ( Eph. 1:13).

    WORD OF WARNING

That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. ( Matt. 5:45).

This verse is related to previous ones speaking of loving our enemies as part of the Sermon on the Mount. Christ shared close ties with Judas Iscariot; according to Psalm 41:9 "Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me." The unregenerate enjoy for a time the creation in this life but attribute their blessings to what they consider the "goodness" of their heart; their accomplishments; merits; accolades etc. See Ecclesiastes 8:11 for a warning on delayed judgment; also see Galatians 6:7.

    Ecclesiastes 8:11

Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

King Solomon saw the folly of not speedialy punishing the wicked. In this day and age, criminals are let go with a slap on the wrist. This only enables them to commit more crimes.

Jesus laid down His life so that people could be forgiven for their sins. He didn't lay down His life so that the wicked could commit crimes with impunity. They should be stopped by whatever means necessary, even if it means cutting off their hand(s) to prevent them from using a weapon or grabbing someone.

Another: Genesis 1:1, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth", where the Heb. 'hassa-mayim' is in the plural. Now it's interesting that in Genesis 2:1,4, the KJV uses the same Hebrew plural word as 'heavens' - but not in Genesis 1:1. Maybe small errors, but errors nonetheless. And there are many more. So how then do we classify the KJV as error-free, when even some differences are seen from the original? As earlier stated, I don't believe that the 'preservation of God's Word' extends altogether to translations, but the Word that was spoken & delivered which cannot be altered & that Word cannot disappear or be annulled even if man wilfully or ignorantly changes that Word. I don't think that the Spirit's enabling to the KJV translators, compels that accuracy to the point that we're discussing here; rather, the translators considered everything available, finding the best most reliable texts in the Textus Receptus, which weren't giving problems & conflicts as the other 'older' MS were giving, using their knowledge of languages & abilities to deal with transferring of words & ideas into the English language & continual checking & re-checking of their work - all this with the Spirit's help, to produce the best translation we can get in our language.

    b. Psalm 10:5, "his ways are always grievous." Where the NIV & most other versions state, 'prosperous, or succeed'. I've spent much time over this one, & unfortunately haven't come to any clear conclusion. The Hebrew word used is 'chuwl, pr. khool', & this is variously translated as 'to twist, writhe in pain, to dance, to whirl': a mish-mash of definitions in my opinion. I guess a Hebrew reader might pick up on that one, which maybe a reason why most translations go for 'prosperous', whereas the KJV & Douay-Rheims, for 'grievous, filthy'.

Ecclesiastes 8:10. To this verse, the Hebrew is clear, that the KJV, NASB, & some others attest to. So, I believe the NIV is incorrect here.

I know Ezekiel 13 is talking about how much God hates false prophets. But it also shows the insanity of punishing the innocent and coddling the wicked.

19 "And will ye pollute me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to slay the souls that should not die, and to save the souls alive that should not live, by your lying to my people that hear your lies?"

Specifically where it says- ".....to slay the souls that should not die, and to save the souls alive that should not live....."

My first thought was about our court system that coddles rapists and murderers and there's no justice for the victims of these crimes, and panders to irresponsible women who use abortions as birth control.

Who wrote Ecclesiastes??? Solomon??? Even he saw the stupidity of letting the wicked go free.

    Ecclesiastes 8:11

"Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil."

    1 Timothy 1:

    8 But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully;

9 Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,

    10 For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;

I'm in favor of the death penalty for the worst offenders: murderers and rapists (of men, women, boys, girls, babies and animals. Fornication outside of marriage is a horrible sin.)

    What do you think?

    I agree with everyone,

we must trust & know 100%

that we are saved by our savior,

    the sacrificial lamb

{{{the perfect sacrifice}}} and thru him only.

noone else could have saved us but him.

we must know we cannot get to heaven by our works,

    but,

at the same time we are to be the salt & the light to the non believers in the world around us,.

i feel that ther is a thin line between

works vs. living by our father in heavens

commandments out of true love & respect. like someone commented,

    the holy spirit changes us,

its being delivered from our former worldly selfish & materialistic life, to our new life,

not of the world. its definitely a spiritual transformation once we truly surrender fully, this is wen we start our walk with our savior.

and its a true desire to express our love & 100% faith in the holy trinity.

by us surrendering ourselves and wanting to serve him in any way that we can.

we that love the holy trinity with all our heart, mind, body, spirit & soul long for the moment we can be with god, as

    we seek his face daily!!!!

    lol.

and i know that i and probably all of u will

not even be able to look upon the father & son wen the time comes!

we will be laying down in the dirt

while crying our eyes out &

surely we will be unable to speak,

compared to them we are filthy as the dirt we will

    lay & cry in.

This Psalm is focusing on those who would be what we call today "atheists." They are said here to do terrible things; as well as go after God's people. Verses 1 and 3 remind us that there is no one who does good. We see this sort of behavior in the end of dispensations of time when "judgment comes to the full" starting in Genesis 15:16; and it continues to the transgressions of Babylon at the end of the 70 years of captivity as well as the time in Revelation in the example of a few instances.

Lest we entertain the tought that this state is only for those who deny that God exists; we surely have to realize the admonitions in 2 Thessalonians 2:10 about those who did not receive the LOVE of the truth. Ultimately; as Romans 1 and Psalm 19 indicate there is enough evidence in Creation that men are without excuse; also including evidence of the godhead ( Romans 1:20). We are reminded that because God does not execute judgment right away men get complacent in Ecclesiastes 8:11.

We are reminded here in verse 6 of the treatment of the poor of Proverbs 21:20 where "a fool and his money are soon parted." Some; thankfully will repent when humbled enough; sadly others not as Revelation makes all too clear. The last verse once again looks forward to the salvation of the nation of Israel; related to the last days return of His people. Israel for now is far nationally from repentance; and it won't fully repent and come to the true Messiah until the Lord is returning ( Zechariah 12:12 and surrounding verses). Let us all test our hearts to make sure that we are worthy to escape all the things that are to come to pass and to stand before the Son of Man ( Luke 21:36 see also Rev. 3:10).

I've always been in favor of the death penalty. I think the worst offenders should be permanently stopped. King Solomon saw what happens when the wicked are allowed to run rampant.

    Ecclesiastes 8:11

Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

We see the folly of showing mercy to rapists and murderers, or repeat offenders.

    Soul sleep; the big lie.

1 Thessalonians 4:14 to the end of the chapter and 1 Thessalonians 5:10 make it clear; along with other verses that when the body sleeps; the spirit lives on. The question is; of course if His Spirit "testifies with our spirit ( Romans 8:16) that we are God's children." If not; then truly we are spiritually "dead" as it were; which means absent from the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and hence forever trapped in our sinful nature. He has put "eternity in the hearts of men" ( Ecclesiastes 3:11). Hebrews 9:27 also makes it pretty clear that we face judgment after death. That will determine where we spend the interim period through the Millennial reign and make the "first resurrection" ( Rev. 20:6) or remains until the Great White Throne judgment. There are; apparently phases to the firstfruits which Christ Himself initiated; then some who came out of their graves AFTER the Resurrection; then those alive at His coming when the saints are Resurrected and finally the Resurrection of those who were martyred in the Tribulation. I will leave this detailed eschatology to other posts.

I already stated elsewhere where the word "qeber" is referring to the bodily state of "sleep" or death in the grave; and when "sheol" the land of the souls of all in the O.T. (now only just for the wicked) exists. Now; to be "absent from the body is present with the Lord ( 2 Cor. 5:6). The bigger question is WHY people want to hold to this "soul sleep" or nonexistence mentality. Part of it can be not dividing the Word properly ( 1 Tim. 2:15); or 2 Peter 3:16 where unstable people twist scripture to their own destruction. If someone knows they are in sin; and remains unrepentant in their hearts it is easy to follow this mindset so that there can be space before judgment. ( Ecclesiastes 8:11; Psalm 73:17). He is not the God of the dead but the living ( Mark 12:27). Hence; we are already "seated in heavenly places" ( Ephesians 2:6).

    Amen Brother Chris.

Now is the time for salvation!!

That time seems to winding down.

I believe it's evident in the state of the world and also in the Apostasy at large. Also with this pandemic we've seen a sifting sort to speak.

Hebrews 9:27-28. seems to parallel with Revelation 22.

"And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation."

Revelation 22:11, 14-15. HE THAT IS UNJUST, LET HIM BE UNJUST STILL: AND HE WHICH IS FILTHY, LET HIM BE FILTHY STILL: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.

Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

FOR WITHOUT ARE DOGS, AND SORCERERS, AND WHOREMONGERS, AND MURDERERS, AND IDOLATERS, AND WHOSOEVER LOVETH AND MAKETH A LIE.

There's a solemn warning for those who desire to add or take anything away from this book.

NO Ambassador of Christ would dare do that. Wisdom is known by her children and that certainly wouldn't be wise.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom. But why fear if there is no consequences.

This false teaching there is no Satan no Hell and no consequences assists and comfort a sinner in his folly.

Look at Ecclesiastes 8:11-12. it confirms that.

And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. Revelation 22:17.

Man has to realize his condition and hopeless fate and come. otherwise he will be UNJUST STILL.

    God bless.

Thank you. I go nuts thinking about things like this. When Jesus walked among us, and the Jews saw his miracles first hand, they accused Him of doing miracles by the power of the devil. (Is that what blasphemy-against-the-Holy-Spirit is??)

All of us born after Jesus ascended into heaven long to see some sort of miracle, but WE live by faith. Not by sight. Sometimes I get discouraged. I want the idol worshipping, rebellious, wicked reprobates to STOP what they are doing, but nobody down here is able to stop them. Prison and the death penalty are looked at as too inhumane, so murderers and rapists are allowed to go free.

    Ecclesiastes 8:11

Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

It's to the point where I'm afraid to leave my house and afraid to stay in it. Know-what-I-mean?
  • Richard H Priday - In Reply - 2 years ago
Hey; hows your surgery doing? Anyhoo; I'm back for another one of my scripture interpretations. It is clear that since judgment doesn't come at once; man persists in his sin. This roughly is the translation of Ecclesiastes 8:11. Clearly; God has no joy in the death of the wicked; and toward His elect He waits as long as decreed through foreknowledge until the prompting of the Spirit draws them in. God demonstrates fairness by allowing men to heap up sins ( Hosea 14:1 and many other scriptures); and the desperately wicked heart becomes systematically harder as Pharoah. This pattern is evident with todays rebellion as 2 Timothy 3:1 and following verses state; and in Revelation sin will progress to people hiding from Christ and He who is seated on the Thone ( Rev. 6:16) to where they will actively fight Christ at His return ( Rev. 19:19-20; Psalm 2; etal).

In Psalm 22; we see Christ's sufferings on the cross; but also He is in the "presence of His enemies" in verse 5. There is a day of reckoning; as you know. When God endures so that no one will perish( 2 Peter 3:9); it is only effective for those He has called and chosen; but for a time the tares remain with the wheat so that His purposes can stand and when the last man to be saved comes to pass then judgment is final on the rest. Only He knows that day. The mark of the beast will "seal the deal" as it were. The test coming to the whole world will come; and the sins piled to the sky in Rev. 18 will bring His wrath in full measure to "Babylon the Great." Therefore; nations of the wicked come to full fruition or ripeness for judgment; which was the case with nations in the O.T. past as well. The wicked always are used for God's purposes as is Satan Himself.

I read your reply twice and tipped my head to the side! My mind swiftly turned to Ecclesiastes 8:17. I was pleasantly surprised, another reply that I received, where that quote regarding "brethren and ignorant" appears many more times than one would expect. As I spoke with a Sister in Christ and I shared with her, the fact that we are without excuse, with regard to learning the nature of God. We focus on what one would call "Religion" rather than a RELATIONSHIP with God. And some wonder why Faith remains in a Mustard Seed state, we do not Read nor search God's Word, but rely on "they say", never knowing, never having met who "they" are! God has given rich avenues whereby we may obtain His Truth, know His Promises, understand and know His Voice. And certainly know when He is Speaking, His Yes, is Yes, His No is No and no the difference when to be Be Still and Know that HE is God! As for me, I shared as I became less of me and more with God, starting with family, I was scorned, cursed out and criticized. But after all these years of chasing after God, I can say with a joyful heart, I am Good, because I have dropped one of those o's, I will always know that God has me.

You might be scratching your head by now, what is she talking about. I give God thanks in all things, you thought it not Robbery, to reply to me. So we are one in the Body of Christ, and those who were birthed by natural father and mother may not understand. You and I know like Abraham, God always has a "Ram" in the Bush!

God Bless You, may His Continence Ever Shine Upon You!

I am saddened by some the Comments of this day. It is a COMMENT room; NOT an OPINION room.

The scriptures issue from DIVINE inspiration. It is GOD'S WORD. JESUS is the WORD OF GOD.

The King James Bible was carefully translated from Hebrew and Greek language so anybody could read it. This is a King James Bible Comment Website. We do not hash and rehash other languages; or fight over Jesus's NAME. Whatever language..it is in His Name that we are born again, baptised by The Holy Spirit; it is His Name that scatters DEMONS into outer darkness and dry places!!

    Ecclesiastes 8:5

Whoso keepeth the commandment shall feel no evil thing: and a WISE man's heart discerneth both time and judgment.

    Ezekiel 44:23

And they shall teach my people the difference between the HOLY and PROFANE, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean.

    Jonah 4

    And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand;

    Malachi 3:18

Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.

    Matthew 16:3

And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times???

    1 Corinthians 2:14

But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he discern....

If you need The GIFT of discerning of Spirits, I suggest that you ask the Holy Spirit for that gift. 1 Corinthians 12, 13, 14

It is very apparent to me that this website has a satanic assignment against it (the spirit of Antichrist). We must stand together as the Body of Christ and bind it's presence and cast it into deep outer darkness!

We must learn to discern! Confusion, schism, arguing, accusing; Divisions are FRUITS.

The present wellbeing in a person's life is no indication of their future disposition:

    Ecclesiastes 8:11-13

Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him:

But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God.

But none of these things could ever save, for it is written, "There is none righteous, no, not one:" The only way to Heaven is to forsake your righteousness and place your trust in what God did for you when he sent his son to die on a tree. Titus 3:5,

"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;"

The gospel: 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJV

Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; [2] By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. [3] For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; [4] And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

If you trust in anything else besides Paul's gospel to get you to Heaven, then you're on your way to hell.
