The Bible speaks of Jesus "knowing their thoughts" while He was on earth. Did He use His deity to KNOW or did He only perceive their thoughts?

    In reflection of Ecclesiasticus 3:21 - 24

21.Seek not out things that are too hard for thee, neither search the things that are above thy strength.

22But what is commanded thee, think thereupon with reverence, for it is not needful for thee to see with thine eyes the things that are in secret.

23Be not curious in unnecessary matters: for more things are shewed unto thee than men understand.

24For many are deceived by their own vain opinion; and an evil suspicion hath overthrown their judgment.

What I take from the book , based on this chapters verses, in context and out.. is this..

Beautifully written and preserved for those who seek out wisdom. Easy to understand for exactly what it is saying..

This is why i hold my tongue to reply to questions on any subject, topic or scripture questions .

In reference to verse 24. I hold myself accountable for what I declare to understand . But I will not hold my tongue still to those who God chooses to gather to me.

I have a great love in my heart for ('my ') God, my Heavenly Father that saves me from my own vanity.

I can hear his voice in my heart and soul. I believe he calls us to return to him.

    Matthew 6:14-15

For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

But if ye forgive NOT men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

    Matthew 18:21-22

Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?

Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until SEVENTY times SEVEN.

    Luke 6:37

Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and you shall be forgiven:

    Ephesians 4:32

And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

    Ephesians Chapter 4:26-27

Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

Neither give place to the DEVIL.

Colossians 3:13 - Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, you also do.

Comment by Mishael: when we don't forgive others, Satan accuses us before the Throne of God, until we do forgive.

Taking Communion in unforgiveness, causes us to be unworthy to receive the blessing. We even must forgive ourselves. Every day till it takes root in our heart. How many years are you willing to live with this self-condemnation?

Wipe your heart, and in time your mind will follow.

I don't read all posts on this web site , often responses to some of them don't get through .

What will say if this gets through is I have not learned much at all by comments I have read , I see a lot of errors . I thank God for the Bible and life is Good . These are dark

days . But the word of God is light everywhere , I hope it gets brighter . I have learned from reading Gods word things I never heard anywhere before .And still more ! Awesome

Read for yourself the Word .

I'm not interested in correcting everyone in their errors unless they want to be . But I don't like deception at all it effects a lot of people .

You cannot comprises the word of God or be a friend with the world that is an enemy with God . These are just temptations. God bless as you seek the truth and sell it not when you find it !

The prayer of faith can save people , God does it his way of course. George Muller prayed with many dying people in his time because of a deadly plague that left 1000 s of orphans in his time . He believed it was very helpful and risked his life doing it .

I prayed for both my parents before they died and I'm sure it helped , The Lord gave me amazing assurance after their death , I had no grievance what so ever but was happy for them . They knew little truth but they did show evidence The Lord was working . It talks about it end of book of James . The prayer of faith ...

Never underestimate the prayer of faith . God is more than able ..

You were taught correctly, Dee: one should not only not pray for the dead, but to do so is pointless & against biblical teaching. Many religions do pray for the dead in the hope that that will assist those souls towards comfort & peace in the after-life. And Roman Catholics particularly believe in this as they also have the teaching of purgatory, where souls reside for a period of time for purification & made acceptability for Heaven. So while souls are being in that state, prayer is offered to God on their behalf.

They cite several Scriptures, and from the apocryphal book Ecclesiasticus, chapter 7:33 we read, "A gift hath grace in the sight of every man living; and for the dead detain it not." And this means, as man gives to the poor (v 32) & weeps & visits the sick (vv 34,35), so to he should give a gift of grace to both the living & the dead (v 33). We can do so while he is alive, but it is wrong to think that a gift of grace (prayer) will be of any use when he is dead.

Rather, Hebrews 9:27 says, "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgement". Once departing this Earth, there remains no other sacrifice for sins or place of repentance for the unbeliever, only waiting for God's Judgement. That is a sobering thought, but emphasizes the pressing need for man to give full consideration for the condition & destiny of his soul while he is still alive. The teaching that another place of repentance & purification exists, gives man licence to do & live how he wants in this life: and this then dilutes the meaning of the Cross & the urgency of its message.

I was always taught not to pray for the dead.
  • Adriaan Snyman on Ecclesiasticus 3 - 4 years ago
Amen, I agree with that. Deeds cannot take away sins. Only the One sacrifice that was made, by God's righteousness. Yet I wonder if there is not some deeper meaning here I am missing. For instance, if the translation should not rather have been the giving of alms protects one from the attacks of the enemy which causes us to sin (as a form of living in God's righteousness.) But I will have to read the original version before I can say for certain.

Unfortunately, as good as this particular book is, I cannot reconcile the fact that we cannot make atonement by obedience to the law. Only through faith in Christ is atonement applied to a sinner.

well I agree with verse 23 I don't understand why it was taking out of the King James Bible 1975 from Nelson publishers.what I believe it is saying to us is don't waste your time being curious about things that are not important for God is going to show with many things that were not going to understand but we need to seek Him with all of our heart if we want to find him and we need to search out the matters for this for God to conceal it matters but for Kings just search it out.praise be to God the Father of lights, where every good and perfect gift comes from, James chapter 1

Just to say that Verse 18 has always hit me and though I am lowly , I still bring this to those in high places . Mind you , they don't always obey . At least I have done my job . Every day I pray for for my friends who are dead and all my ancestors , that is my protection for the day . Also many who live , such as , Sohana and her Mom and Dad and her three siblings and all her colleagues who suffer from EB , now it is not a secret anymore . Also for our dear friend who died recently in San Mateo , CA her name = Mary Joe MCGreevy , a lovely Lady . Must go , Rita has my dinner ready , GOD bless all of you . From Ben
