  • Christians Becoming Fully Equipped-1 on Exodus 20 - 4 years ago
Growing up is a process. No one is born fully grown. Everyone comes into the world as an infant and progresses through different developmental stages until he reaches adulthood. The same is true when you become born again. It doesn't matter how old you are physically. When you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you are a spiritual babe in Christ, and you must learn to grow in the things of God.

In the Book of Ephesians, the Apostle Paul talks about the spiritual growth of Christians.

    EPHESIANS 4:11-15

    11 And he[Jesus]gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ:

    14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ.

Did you notice in verse 15, Paul tells the Christians in Ephesus to ". . grow up into him in all things . . ."? Evidently, Paul didn't think that the Church at Ephesus had grown up yet. He also said in verse 13, "Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, UNTO A PERFECT MAN . . . ."

In The Amplified Bible, this phrase is translated, "that we might arrive at really mature manhood." In these verses, Paul is encouraging us to reach spiritual maturity. He is encouraging us to grow up spiritually.

Throughout the New Testament, we see a striking similarity between spiritual and physical development. In fact, there are three stages of spiritual development that correspond to physical development. They are: babyhood, childhood, and manhood.

You can still honor and respect your mom from a distance for the limited involvement they had and not need to be involved in her life or physically around her. That is my opinion.
  • Grace - In Reply on Exodus 20 - 4 years ago
Thank you for your reply. Do I have to honor my biological mom who did not raise me? I want to do my best to keep the commandments but this situation is confusing that I am in.
  • The Spirit of Adoption - In Reply on Exodus 20 - 4 years ago
You have sometimes thought God walked off and forgot about you; but He doesn't do that. Within you He was growing the spirit of adoption.

Everything you've endured was to bring you to this day. How do I know that? I was brought that way too. I was the little gray duck in a family of swans.

Some day, even now, you'll be able to embrace the great work that God has been doing within your heart. Only you know the hollow feeling of not really belonging anywhere.

In the perfect time, God sent forth the Spirit of Adoption, into your life. His name is Jesus. He is your ABBA. Your Daddy.

Daddy means as close to his heart as you desire of him. Now write these 2 verses on the inside cover of your Bible.

Psalms 27:10 - When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.

    Psalms 68:6

God setteth the Solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.

You're not a mistake. There is a plan in place for you. Let go of the past, and embrace your adoption and the future. Ask Him now to complete the work in your heart. Get still and listen for the Holy Spirits voice. One of peace; not fear and confusion.

I'm not speaking out of my flesh here. You are to have this Word now.

    Dear Grace,

I'm sorry to hear you were so badly mistreated. You deserved better and deserved to be loved.

I believe the Bible has provisions for getting out of toxic, abusive relationships, both with spouses and with family and friends. I have distanced myself from family at different times to reduce negativity. Even though I still love family members it doesn't mean I have to be around them. Some I do not go around because nothing positive comes from it.

This isn't an exact match to your situation, but at the end of 1 Corinthians 5:11 it says to not eat with (I interpret as associate with) people who claim to be believers but who are living in sin (with examples listed). It doesn't say ignore non-believers, but believers who are engaged in these sins. To me I think this supports leaving a toxic environment. Part of loving ourselves and taking care of ourselves I think will be making decisions to distance from certain temptations, certain people, certain negative situations. Hope this is helpful.

    God bless...

I have a question about honoring your mother and father. I was put up for adoption as a baby. In my thirties I met my biological mom but did not have a connection with her. Do I have to have a relationship with her? Also my adoptive mom abused me physically, mentally, verbally. Am I obligated to her as well?

You receive not, because you ask not.

    Matthew 7:7-8

7Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

8For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

Keep asking him He will answer according to His will. His promises is yes and amen.

    1 Thessalonian 5:17

    17Pray without ceasing.

Never stop praying until you get what you want.

Just as God rested from His creative Work, He also instituted a day of Rest (Shabbat) for Israel. They were to do no servile work at all, limited in how far they could travel, use the time to reverence the day. For Gentiles, God expects that we too need a day of rest in the week, for our bodies to re-energize, relax, spend time with family, etc. Often, we get two days in the week to do this, but in many countries, they only get one day. There's no constraint on what we do during our Rest Day as long as it's a break from the rigours of the 'daily grind'. The Christian however, will use that time to meet together for worship & other ways of ministering to others. However, for the Jew, he has many constraints placed upon him, usually by man & not from God.
  • When is our Sabbath Day - In Reply on Exodus 20 - 4 years ago
It was later called the Sabbath Day. Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath, and He worked and did healings on that day at times.

Some Churches meet on Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday or even Friday.

Find one that teaches Whole Bible that is compatible with your work schedule. Jobs are not as plentiful as they used to be. It may get worse before it gets better. Use some wisdom.

God knows everything we're dealing with and He assuredly can help you find the church that works with peoples schedules.

If someone tries to say you are "out of order", don't worry about them. It's what JESUS demonstrated that matters. He is THE LORD of the Sabbath!!

    Not rigid minded Pharisee-like "Christians".

What do i mean wen God sad on the 7 day rest do that mean dont work on your job and at home
  • Chris - In Reply on Exodus 20:12 - 4 years ago
That's a very sad situation Carl, one in which not a lot can be done since your great grandchildren are probably still subject to their parents instructions & guidance. I have a niece & nephew that no longer communicate with my wife & me because of their parents filling them with matters untrue. As their children, though now adults in their 30s, they still follow what they believe to be true & probably don't want to 'rock the (family) boat'. So it has been very sad as we have not been able to have any input into their lives especially with Christian teaching, to which we believe they are deprived & destitute.

We nevertheless don't cease to pray for them, committing their lives to the Lord Who alone is able to help them, counsel them & indeed, put in their hearts to get in touch with us again. We long for that day, just as you & your wife remain hopeful. You can only commit this matter to the Lord that both the hearts of your grand & great grand children will be touched & to learn of the truth about your genuineness & ongoing love for them. Are you able to talk to your children to learn more of this & if they are willing to mediate between you & their children? How do your children understand this situation? Even if a very personal letter from you to your great grand children can be sent through an intermediary, it may go some way to let them know of your feelings for them & may hit a 'nerve' of understanding & love from them.

However, if they don't really know you because of this estrangement being so long, then they might well say, "but we don't know who you are". The Lord can overrule - like in everything we face in life, we have to be cast completely upon Him & He will do what is right & in His time. I pray that your faith may increase & that you may find Christ's joy in spite of your circumstances.
  • Carl Gunderson on Exodus 20:12 - 4 years ago
Our grandson and wife are keeping us from seeing our great grandchildren because of words exchanged six months ago. We apologized but that's not good enough. When mention of children respecting their elders, they say it goes both ways. It really has nothing to do with letter of apology. We really don't know what to think any more or to do.
  • Chris - In Reply on Exodus 19 - 4 years ago
This is too large a subject to properly deal with here, but basically, when God rested on the seventh day from His Work of Creation ( Genesis 2:2,3), it was done from counting off six days: in other words, since no days of the week are seen here, therefore no one can determine which days was the day of rest. Then when He commanded this Day of Rest (Sabbath) in Exodus 20:10 for his people Israel to observe, again, there wasn't a stipulation of it being a particular day. The institution of the Sabbath was a sign of sanctification (or, separation) of Israel to God, elected by God out of a world all around them that was given to idolatry & wickedness. ( Exodus 31:13,14).

In Exodus chapter 16, we read of God's provision of food to Israel after they left Egypt, by supplying them with quails & manna each day. They had to collect their food every day for six days but on the sixth day, they had to collect the manna for an extra day, as it was their day of rest (Sabbath). If they forgot to do this, they would have to fast.

From then on, Israel had maintained this day count: working (or, collecting food) for six days & resting on the seventh. The Jewish Sabbaths, Festivals, etc. are now calculated on a Lunar Calendar (based on the Moon cycles/phases) as opposed to our Solar Calendar (based on the Sun). As both Calendars are not strictly accurate (if reckoning the exact days), they have to include extra days or in the case of Judaism, adjust their festival dates to suit. But the Sabbath has to be strictly maintained as the seventh day of rest from their labours.

Psalm 139:13-16, Jeremiah 1:5, Psalms 127:3, Exodus 20:13, Genesis 9:6. These verses show that God created us and everyone has great value including the unborn, as the verses indicate. I think Satan is behind a lot of lies in the world today including blinding a whole population to vote for mass murder of babies. I think it's absolutely sick and pure evil. God created life and is pro-life. How can anyone honestly say God wants us to destroy the life that He so beautifully created.

    1 Corinthians 2:16

For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? BUT WE HAVE THE MIND OF CHRIST.

    Philippians 2:5

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

    Romans 7:25

I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with THE MIND I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

    Romans 15:6

That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Testimony by Mishael: I questioned the Lord one day; shortly after salvation, on these scriptures.

I said, Lord scientists say we only use 10% of our brains power potential. How come?

I was sitting waiting for reply. The Holy Spirit said the first scripture above.

Jesus doesn't have limitations on intelligence. He created it. You can thank the Lord for knowing his mind. There's no limitations. Some things we are unable to receive, because of the "Nay-sayers" that tell us we can't do that. "It's not scriptural'.

God doesn't withhold good gifts from His children. I asked for better memory and then I RECEIVED IT BY FAITH. My Bible studying and prayer life bloomed! My thanks to God, is using what he gives me.

You are not limited on asking in child-like faith for what you Need; not wants. Let all your requests be made known to God. He's your Daddy; ABBA. He knows what is good for us. Receive it. Give thanks. Give doubts the boot, out of your heart.

I used to write scriptures on notebook paper and post it on a cabinet near the stove. I'd be stirring things and had time to look at it.

Read it out loud. Look at it. Hear your voice saying it. See? Those are the mouth gate, the eye gate and the hearing gate. You're going to learn those scriptures easily. Just keep doing it till it flows right out of your mouth from Memory. You have His Mind at last. There are no limitations on what you can learn now.

If your kids hear you say it enough, they will learn it too. :D 1 Corinthians 2:16

    Hello Angela,

As I can't say I remember them in any order. Hopefully this may help. You can break them down into three things God wants us to do and seven things to stay away from. The three to do are: Love God with all your heart and have no other gods, Honor your father and mother, and keep the sabbath day Holy. The seven to "not do", maybe start with: Do not steal, do not lie, do not murder. Then: do not commit adultery, don't take the Lords name in vein, do not worship false idols, and do not covet.

I guess really just keep going over them and they should stick. As these Ten Commandments are just the beginning of battling, and staying away from, all sin. Which is much more vast. Along with producing much good fruit, in your life, for the Lord.

    God Bless.

I learned the Ten Commandments using mnemonics, 1bun 2 shoe 3 key & so on, but every time I try to recite them now I get mixed up & can't remember what 10's mnemonic was & I totally miss Commandments 2 & 3!!! Did anyone else use these mnemonics & remember them? Or have other ones I might use? I want to teach my grandchildren but also I want to remember them myself!!

    Please Help!

I love that this site exists & can easily be found, searched, researched & read. It takes away ANY excuse people might make about not hearing or knowing The Word of GOD & of not believing because they "didn't know."

Thank You to the many people who would have had to labor to bring this site into existence & to those who maintain it! Keep up the Good Work!

    Evermore.

    Hi David W Black,

    page 1

I agree that Cain inherited his sinful nature from Adam. Before Adam & Eve ate from the tree of knowledge of good & evil they knew no sin because they were made in the image of God. It was only after they ate from the tree that they new good & evil.

Jesus is our role model on how we [should] live. [If] it was [impossible] for us to [sin no more] then Jesus wouldn't of commanded us to [do] it.

John 5:14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: [sin no more], lest a worse thing come unto thee.

John 8:11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and [sin no more].

1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we [keep] his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

John 15:10 [If] ye [keep] my commandments, ye [shall] abide in my love; even as I have [kept] my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

1 John 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, [if] we [keep] his commandments.

Leviticus 22:31 Therefore shall ye [keep] my commandments, and [do] them: I am the LORD.

John 14:15 [If] ye love me, [keep] my commandments.

    Leviticus 26:3 [If] ye walk in my statutes, [and keep] my commandments, and [do] them;

Numbers 15:40 That ye may remember, and [do] [all] my commandments, and [be holy] unto your God.

Deuteronomy 5:29 O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, [and keep all] my commandments [always], that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!

Proverbs 7:2 [Keep] my commandments, and [live]; and my law as the apple of thine eye.

Exodus 20:6 And shewing mercy unto [thousands] of them that [love me], [and keep] my commandments.

Deuteronomy 5:10 And shewing mercy unto [thousands] of them that [love me] [and keep] my commandments.

Deuteronomy 11:27 A blessing, [if] ye [obey] the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day.

    Romans 8:

2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

I suggest we all read Romans 8 again, so we do not return to a system of WORKS again.

Conchita, I too was raised RC and was practicing until I was 33 years old. When I made the same discovery about the commandments as you have, I made my first step away from the Roman church. They changed the commandments so they can keep their idols and images. Ask yourself...why do you need two commandments for coveting? I am appalled when I think of how they made me worship idols. But praise God for His mercy in forgiveness and praise Him for deliverance from the pagan church!!!

If you took the name Jesus Christ out of catholicism, you would still have the mass, the pope, cardinals, priests, nuns, The "hail Mary" and the rosary, all the many rituals, and their "sacraments"...get the picture?

The phrase "full armor of God" comes from Ephesians 6:13-17: "Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness (the righteousness of Jesus Christ) in place,

and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God."

The sword of the Spirit is all of the scriptures you have committed to memory.

How can we mix Holy with Profane?

    Sandra,

    Concerning the 7th Day.

Most people use Sunday because they can't shake customs and traditions.

You are following the Sabbath day requirement because you feel compelled to.

The 7th day was established for ALL of mankind back on the 7th Day of Creation ( Genesis 2:2-3, Exodus 20:8-11, Exodus 34:21, etc. etc.) and was never abolished.

( Mark 2:27-28) "And he said unto them, The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath."

If we believe in the Father and His only begotten Son, then we have Christ in us every day, not just one day per week. This new understanding is an enhancement of the 7th day, not the abolishing of it. It was made to last forever.

This is a day that God BLESSED and SANCTIFIED! Christ always honored the Sabbath. The Apostles kept the Sabbath after the death of Christ; look at Acts 13:14, 27, 42, 44, Acts 16:13, etc.

Pentecost is a holy SABBATH day; i.e. a day of rest.

In Acts 17:2 and Acts 18:4, Paul is continually feeding the people Scripture on the SABBATH.

    Christ never abolished the Sabbath.

God never said anything concerning that fact, and if He wanted that day changed, He would have made it abundantly clear.

Have you considered looking at the Dead Sea Scrolls?

The Book of Enoch, in particular, reveals a 364 day solar priestly calendar.

    52 (weeks) x 7 = 364

The calendar begins after the Spring Equinox.

Look at the first book of Enoch; specifically, ch. 72, and ch. 82 (column 27) are words concerning the ancient solar calendar.

If I find an error, I will contact; however that had nothing to do with my comment at all. The King James Bible is totally accurate. The singular and plural (such as thee or you) is grammatically accurate unlike all contemporary versions. Also, the base texts of Hebrew and Greek are pure. If someone uses another version they are deceived, or willing ignorant. The history from William Tyndale and friends to the King James Bible is humbling. The history of the modern perversions is abominable. Comparing the gold of the KJB with the error riddled modern perversions, should lead one to accept the gold, and reject the error. The occultic Jesuits are having a pro-Lucifer hay-day; they are vicious wolves in sheep's clothing, and are behind much of the King James battle as well as battles against received text Bibles in other languages around the world.

Back on topic to Exodus 20, the modernist push to downplay the commandments of God is atrocious. 2 Timothy 3:16

I wrote a long article concerning this on my website, with many scripture references. I tried to link to it, but no links are allowed. I can not post it here, because the text is too long. If you type, "what saith the scripture these three are one" you will find my youtube channel, and an introduction screen-cast to my site. On the site I list copious verses in defense of the law of Moses. The link on the left of my site is titled, "law of Moses _ validity". Jah is most high.

    Hi Sandra,

The best possible way to have a better understanding about which day is the right one and why most people go to church on Sunday, is to go back to the book of Daniel. Understand the kingdoms of Babylon, Medo Persia, Greece, Rome and how the activities of the "little horn" that has a mouth and eyes and speaking blasphemy against the Most High.

What is blasphemy? Mark 2:7 "Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?"

The little horn according to Daniel 7:25 - "And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time."

According to Exodus 20, the 4 commandment "Remember to keep the seventh day holy..." Exodus 20:8-11. The commandment has not changed, even Paul solidifies the same in the new testament, "we establish the law" Romans 3:31.

The little horn has usurped the prerogatives of God and in doing so he established his day, Sunday, as the day of his authority. The last day deception will be about the day of worship. Those who love God, & His law, will choose Saturday Sabbath as the day of His authority, but those who choose the devil's representative here on earth (the anti Christ) will choose Sunday sabbath (as they call it) as the day of his authority. It all boils down to in whom we rest (sabatismos), come what may. Even at the risk of losing our lives we trust the One who is able to resurrect us from death, Matthew 10:39

Everybody in here may be using their own versions of the Bible. Such as NKJV, NIV, and others. You'll have to compare one to another. I've always used KJV because that is what I memorize.

Old Testament was originally written in Hebrew. New Testament in Greek or Aramaic. Be happy that at great persecution, King James of England got the Bible translated so that regular people like us could read it themselves. Which is why he did it.

The history before it was translated is very very humbling. People were tortured Or burned at stake for having pages of the Bible.
