Matt Rosas 's At one time the earth was one land mass before the days of Eber 's son Peleg which means divided To Eber were born two sons the name of the one was Peleg,3 for in his days the earth was divided, and his brother s name was Joktan. this was only around 200 years after the flood the earths population was small and all were descendents of Noah who was still alive so everyone came from one grand father.before Noah everyone came from Adam they only had one language.

Hello Everyone First let me say this, the Bible is broken up into seven dispensations of time. God has always had one way of salvation under each dispensation. These passages of scriptures fall up under the Third Dispensation which is Human Government. This is where man was giving authority to govern other men and visit punishment upon crime, Genesis 9 6. Man was responsible to govern the world. The salvation under this dispensation was to replenish the earth. They were to spread out gradually over the face of it, Genesis 9 1. During this time the people spoke only one language and were of one speech, Genesis 11 1. Coming to the close of this dispensation we found that the people disobeyed God, they remained in one spot after their journey, and then they wanted to make a name for themselves, Genesis 11 2 thru 4. Now they started off trying to do the right thing by journeying to a land name Shinar but when they got there they stopped doing what they were supposed to do and decided not to go any further. They decided to make a name for themselves. How this dispensation ended was with God confusing their speech and scattering them abroad, Genesis 11 59. Webster states that the word Babel, means a confusion of voices, languages or sounds . The judgment was that God confused their language and scattered them abroad. Here were many languages were born.

I believe God confused the languages because, He told them to be fruitful and multiply the replenish the earth. He confused the languages to scatter them.

They were building the tower and city to promote themselves instead of God. In verse 4 it says let us make a name for us, Lest unless we get tossed to the corners of the earth. Why did God confuse them and divide their languages? I don 't quite understand why He did that..

So the people were for themselves. They forgot all about God. Chapters 3 4 tell us how they wanted to build a city with a high tower and a name for themselves so they can be equal to God. Nobody can compare themselves to the most high God. There is one name and is the name above all names.

1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. but in the earlier chapter...it says 31 These are the sons of Shem, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, after their nations. here their tongues will mean their languages...in fact fact in many Bible versions the word languages is used and not tongues..

Well to anyone who is questioning about the people in the Bible being related of course they are god started the earth with just Adam and eve so doesn 't that make all of us related

At one time the whole earth spoke one common language. This was the way that God originally wanted things to be. Different languages divide mankind. It will be a wonderful thing when the earth goes back to speaking one language and we can all be united.

Sarai and Milcah, the daughter of Haran. referring to vs 31.

Looks to me Sarai, was Abram niece instead of sister-in-law. I know further in the chapters she is referred as being Abram's sister as well.

There is strength and great exploit in unity. Nothing is impossible to do when people are in oneness.The people in oneness in Gen 11 wanted to build the tower of Babel against the plan of God for them. If not that God stopped them, they could have done it. We need to do things in unity that will make God glad as children of God, familes, couples e.t.c.

God knows each of us and has plans for our lives. However, we mess up his plans with disobedience, evil ways and greed. When God becomes upset with mans doings, he puts a stop to it. This is what he did here. He proved his will shall be done. No one will ever enter the Kingdom of God unless God approves. God has the plan and the way, that man must follow and obey to enter heavens gate.

If unity of people is based on language or religion or any such external factors it works against the plan of God.But unity on the basis of faith in God and His holy word it exalts God,not man.Faith in fact humbles man.It does not fill him with pride.

To Aubrey's question Why did God do this to the people?First, they did not do as God had told them to do. Genesis 9:7 God had told Noah and his sons to spread out and repopulate the world. Remember that God made humankind in His image and God said, “nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.” Having one language can make the development of technology easier and faster for good or for evil. God wanted to “slow down” people’s ability to do and invent new ways of doing evil. You know how it is these days, many morals have dropped to an all time low. There is no self-respect or love for self or others. God was just wanting to slow down man's capacity to endanger himself and the world so He handled that by confusing the speech and split the one language into different tongues which confused them scattering them into other parts of the world.

acording to me, the reason why God confused their language it because they were opposing God's plan about a man, because He said a man must fill the earth or be scattered in it; but they opposed that they wanted to go up.They used their mouth to construct, and God used their mouth also to distruct.

The tower was disobedience to" replenish the earth".
God let us know( vs6) that when we come together in agreement much can be obtained can you see whySatan's wile of hate, prejudices,and segregation hinders man's growth and walk with God.....???

offten times i wounder to myself , what if the "Lord" did not stop men in those day from building the tower and change their language the world would be in biger problem because men are so wick now the Lord know best

This is just the beginning of their undertakings. From now on anything that they scheme to do shall no longer be impossible for them. Come; let us go down and confuse their language so that they should not understand each others speech.

God said "Let us Go go down." This is God talking among himself. This is how God makes his decisions. He thinks much as we think. But God's thinking is done distinctly by each of his 3 persons talking to each other. The Father takes the leading role and makes the final decision. And once it is made, all 3 persons abide by it.

Let's say this: God's person is who he is. This makes Jesus God in 2 ways. First, he knows himself as God. This is evidenced by the fact that he said in Exodus that he is "The Lord thy God who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the land of bondage." Second, he is aware of the fact that the Father and the Holy Spirit are God too, the same God he is.

This is why, as God, he made mention of them in his daily speech. Thus, his prayers were designed to point out the Father's role as sending the Son, and his speech pointed put the Holy Spirit's role as God inspiring us to believe.

But again, Jesus is the way this information is revealed to us!

Genesis 11, is the classic..'it's not by power or might, but by the spirit'...the other name/title of God is..The High Tower, these people's imagination was too much for God to ignore...they wanted to built an alternate way to heaven minus obedience to God...they were in essence saying we donot need God and His statutes to make it to have but we will use our 'Babel'. This was going to be an idol to the people, the same confusion God punished them with, is the same confusion this satanic tower was going to cause....and who instructed them to settle and built at Shinar/Babylonia....Babylonia is synonym for anything driven by corruption/rebellion and angst... Genesis 6 verse 5 and Zeccharia 5 verse 5- 11...by the way am not a bible schollar but learn my bible through revelation..God day children of God...let all that you do acknowledge the sovereignity of El Qanna and Qanna (Jelous God for His name is Jealous).. It was everyone who was doing this, not just Ham's descendents! Otherwise why confuse everyone? Why just not confuse the tongues of those who participated?

I think that this is where God changed the lanuages around so we would have different lanuages.

Genesis 11:1-6 is about mankind, in this instance the descendants of Ham, chose to build a tower "That reaches up to heaven", so that if God decides to flood the world again, we will be above the water. This is in direct rebellion against God, and that in spite that [a] God had told them spread out, and [b] His promise that He would never flood the world again. They hadn't learnt a thing!

Try to think about this. If you just had a bouncing baby boy, whom you loved. And at 6 months old you had a vision, this baby, no matter how you raised him and what you did, would grow to be a domestic terrorist, could you kill him? That’s why he didn’t kill them then.

I think the tower was not round-shaped but pyramid shaped. My theory is that it was a huge pyramid. Pyramid-shaped structures were built by almost every ancient culture. Pyramids are found worldwide in many shapes and sizes. The writers may have called it a 'tower' because a pyramid is usually just a stairway high place with a temple built atop of it. Huge round-shaped buildings weren't built at around the time of Genesis (2500 - 3500 BC).

God make man into his own likeness, but he knew that they would not be perfect, but let them realise that unity is strength, and they would make mistake, because when God put adam in the garden of eden, he give him instruction but he disobey, and disobedience brings punishment. when we sin there is a penalty for it. amen

Ultimately, I believe GOD is all about relationship. The further up in altitude the "Babel" builders went, the further away from An acknowledgement of who really is "GOD". GOD LOVES US SO MUCH, HE DOES ALL TO SAVE US.
