Hello Ricky Dehaney Remember the Old Testament has a lot of prophetic scriptures that tie into man s past, present, and future. We are not to throw them away. 2 Timothy 3 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness In the Old Testament links us to the now and that salvation through the power of Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost was prophesied. Isaiah 28 11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. Joel 2 28 is then repeated in Acts 2 17. Then Daniel is prophetic talks about the tribulation which is found in Revelation. This shows that the Old Testament is very much linked to salvation and the future of mankind.

It is useful to read stories like this from the old testament but we must always realize that the old testament is God 's old agreement with man. The new testament is the book that should prioritized.I also find that the hereditary privileges given in the Old Testament a bit unfair and outdated in the 21st century. What I l love about Christianity is that greatness is often achieved not by natural birthright but by spiritual birthright. "You must be born again " .

Yes. This Genesis 17 17 shows how it is hard for a man to get rid of human 's thoughts which the Bible considers as carnal mind. But, what God requires of us is only Faith in Him. Abraham and Sarah were unable to give birth in human 's mind but in spiritual mind, Abraham believed the impossible and became possible before God. Nothing we have to do but believe. May the Lord Jesus bless you.

If you are a Christian, you should know you are a 'spiritual jew ' and it is in your own interest to obey the word of God and not try to raise your culture and tradition against the Word of God. Circumcision is a mark of covenant relationship with God only for all males . Obedience is always better than sacrifice! Also, one thing i learnt from the life of Abraham was that He was always hasty and prompt to OBEY the Word of God, not to seek opinion from people who are ungodly, unlearned in Scriptures, spiritually ignorant. Anytime we seek man 's opinion when the Word of God is revealed to us, we are looking for trouble as Satan is there to tempt us from questioning God and His Word. Our obedience to God and His Word must not be based on feelings or emotions but grace to obey and to do it promptly. Those promoting and supporting same sex in some 'liberal churches ' started from a point in delaying to obey the Word of God and the tempter is consuming them through lust etc. PSALM 119 60 'I made haste, and delayed not to keep thy commandments. ' The Lord give us grace to obey His word promptly.

Why did Abraham buy those men in his house.
  • Akosua on Genesis 17 - 10 years ago
It 's by the Grace of God that Abraham was able to circumcise at that age.No wonder God called him Faithful.

I totally agree with circumsicion but I have a a 30 day old grandson who is not circumcised yet His mother says she does not believe and does not have the money to circumcise Although our family have offered to pay 300 she does not want to take the money I do believe in circumcise For the male child more cleanliness less to deal with as the reach manhood

In today's world, where everyone is under the race of walking perfect before others, this verse is a caution that we ought to walk perfect before GOD and not before people.
  • Josephat samweli mushi on Genesis 17:1 - 11 years ago
God blessing come to those trust him and walk before him perfectly
  • Prince Elliot on Genesis 17 - 11 years ago
Abraham's prompt obedience to God's word is very instructive. In verse 23, he never premeditated the degree of pain he would pass through alongside all that were to be circumcised. It is obvious that he derived joy in obeying God promptly. No wonder God lavished His divine love on him. If believers will learn to obey God "abrahamically", swimming in God's blessings and making heaven will be easier.

I thank God for He is a ever righteous and accomplishes His mission in his fullness set time, that whatever He has in mind for me will definitely come to pass despite the challenges on the way.

“And I will give to you and to your descendants after you, the land of your temporary residence, all the land of Canaan as an eternal possession and I will be a God to them.” ( Genesis 17:8) God wanted Abraham and his descendants to possess the land of Canaan eternally. It was the most fertile land chosen for his people by the God. It is like second to the Garden of Eden which had everything for man but the devil's craftiness and the man's greed made him lose the Garden of Eden. Jacob and his family were in the land of Canaan (the Promised Land) but Jacob failed to stick on the covenant of God, rather he is falling time and again. He looted his brother's rights, spoke lie to his father, married two wives and his children also falling into the trap. They master planned to kill Joseph, slew the man who wanted to marry their sister and so on. As a result the blessings of Canaan seem to be taken away. Canaan the land of honey and milk fails to produce enough even for the family of Jacob. Egypt which is barren and infertile has the blessings of God. From here what we can learn is that God can make opposite of the things. He can make nothing everything and everything nothing. That's why the word of God forewarns us that we need to be watchful all the time. That devil is not happy with what we have achieved. Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour ( 1 Peter 5:8).
  • Josephat mushi on Genesis 17:1 - 12 years ago
What God needs from us is obedience only, we should obey Him and be attentive to His word and then He will abound us with all His blessings.
  • Phindile on Genesis 17 - 12 years ago
Darby T, Galatians 5:6 says if you are trying to be justified by flesh that has been alienated from Christ, you have fallen away from grace, circumcised or not doesn't matter to God, but a new creation in Christ, so is the heart that needs circumcision to curb its filthyness that separates us from the grace of Jesus.
  • Darby T. Fitzcarron on Genesis 17 - 12 years ago
Circumcison of the heart? There is no argument to that. The language does not lend to that idea, nor does the idea itself lend to meaning anything metaphoric or figurative. If this isn't one of those "literal" passages, then I am not sure if anyone has the authority, judgment or intellect to interpret anything that they read.
  • Anifowose Ojo Victor on Genesis 17 - 12 years ago
Concerning Circumcision, it is comprehensible for the fact that ,the LORD who had in the first place required the firstflesh to be circumcised also later expect it not of man as a should but promulgateth it he will write his commandments in heart of men that are his .even this means he {GOD} updateth his words and works
  • RALPH M. WATERS on Genesis 17 - 14 years ago
CIRCUMCISM - These days are a medical practice - Some people do this for religious practices, but circumcism TO THE LORD is in the HEART.

Joe- Pity I don't need, answers I do need. I'd like to know what you mean by "going in every different direction" and "jumping from text to text". The chapters and verses I quoted, are fact. Or is it just mistakes written in the Bible. Whatever it is Joe, you have to admit it makes you wonder if the clear verses are condradictions or mistakes that man have written themselves. You yourself need to open your eyes. The writtings are so clear even an Intelligent child will pick it up. I do believe in our Almighty God, the creator of the universe, heavens and all thats in between. It is God and God alone we need to give thanks too and praise him each moment of everyday and night for the blessings he has bestowed on us, to prostate in prayer as he commanded Abraham, Moses and every prophet to do. Genesis 17:3 And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying," Exodus 34:8 And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped. Joshua 5:14 And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him. Matthew 17:6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid. Matthew 26:39 And he (Jesus) went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed.
To give elms to the poor. Proverbs 28:27
He who gives to the poor will lack nothing, but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses. Luke 14:12-14
Jesus advised hosts to invite the poor to their banquets because then God would bless them.
    God is great
