Its interesting how i have read this verse several times, but just came to this epiphany; It is not God's will for the righteous to perish with the wicked. That's injustice in God's sight. Supplementary prayer is key. I bless God for such a revelation.

Marty, If you are trying to find God I suggest you first start in prayer. Second get into a good church where the elders can help lead you. When I first read the Bible I read the new testament first then the old testament. Jesus Christ is who your looking for. I'd suggest you first read about him then come back and read what lead up to our Savior. May God bless you with wisdom and understanding and may you except your gift of life eternal. I love you and Jesus does to.

Marty: Something that you may be missing is the grace of God. The men of the bible were most certainly not perfect. They were sinners, tempted just as you and I are. However, through studying their lives, we can make corrections to our own. There is nothing new under the sun and their problems are often our own problems. Through the bible you can find salvation through grace ( Eph. 2:8-10)

We must have faith in our father we must also preach the word of God to others but before we do that we must first be true to God and be part of his word and try to help others to turn their life to God we must try to save our brothers and sisters and God has us here for a reason open up your hearts and find that reason.I also am not perfect but am praying to the father to help me be part of him

Have read the first 18 chapters of Genesis, and it genuinely seems to be an account of some wandering desert tribe. What's the Freudian thing about Noah's nakedness? A man sees another man naked! So what? Sorry this is so negative, but I don't even begin to see how this could make me a better person. And Abram having a child with his wife's handmaid? It sounds like a sordid soap opera sub-plot.

I pray this example will be used when people blame God for the countless death of many of this world. From children to elderly. God proved not to destroy the righteous with the wicked. As Abraham interceded so faithfully.
  • Sonja on Genesis 18 - 9 years ago
Abrham's intercession was amazing, desiring for the city to be spared if even there were ten righteous.
  • Jim normandin on Genesis 18 - 9 years ago
That as righteous as God is, that he will provide away to escape his judgement, if we will repent and turn to Him. Just as Abraham's plea for the righteous to be saved, even greater Was Christ's willingness to go to the cross for the sinner.

John, I believe the Scripture totally answer that for you so you don 't need to wonder. Gen. 18:23-33 tells us the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. Lev. 18:22 says, "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind it 's an abomination. Rom. 1:26-27 says, "For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use of their bodies into that which is against nature. Verse 27 go on to tell us the men left the natural use of the women first homosexuality and brought on the nation God 's just destruction. Don 't get me wrong all sin is sin and all of us have sinned, but this particular sin is what the Scripture is speaking of. We as a people are not only watching other but are condoning that sin of others in the name of beings free minded and modern. Just the Supreme court is taking up the marriage equality issue in a so call Christian nation the US. Many States have as you know have already past laws legalizing what God has already declared to be an abomination these marriages. Therefore, it doesn 't appear that the majority of people in this are ready to do what 2 Chron.7:14 which says, if my people which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways then will I hear from Heaven, will forgive their sin, and heal their land. God bless us all and in the understanding of His Word. All praise and glory be to our God through Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. Amen.

Eloy, the Scripture only speak of one pregnancy by the Holy Ghost and that is Mary the mother of Jesus Christ. Everyone else or every other humanbeing was born of a man and woman. Even children born of surrogate mothers including Mary the mother of Jesus Christ herself. There is no Scripture in the holy bible that even suggest otherwise. Isa. Says, "Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel which mean God with us . Lu. 1:31-35 the angel Gabriel appeared to the Virgin Mary and announced the birth of Jesus Christ by her through the power of God by the Holy Ghost. God bless us all and in the understanding of His Word. Glory be to God in the highest. Amen.

Abraham had a heart for the people of Sodom and the Lord would have spared the city if there was even ten Godly men but I think the Lord new that there was not anyone serving him, even Lot who He blessed.Lot was saved because of Abraham 's faith. I wonder if the Lord will save this land?

God is the only creator of all the universe which he put every authority to Jesus as his Son of the Living God. God is so merciful and loving Father. He knows what to provide on any situations. There are no other Jehovah its only Jesus. God owns everything that we can see and keep his children for those who love Jesus and accept his commandments. Therefore only Jesus can rapture and save us and God can only destroy all the works of the defeated devil and take his church back during rapture. God has appointed time to destroy even the earth once all God 's own people will be rapture in mid air. Jesus loves us and keep your faith on him

Hello Semple In addition to my comment. God not only destroyed Sodom but Gomorrah as well for the sin of homosexuality. Gomorrah also was very prosperous Gen 13 10 And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere, before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, KJV
  • Evangelist Chatauna Robinson on Genesis 18 - 10 years ago
If I understand the word decadent means in a state of decline. Sodom and Gomorrah was just that. Sodom was a prosperous city that neglected her poor and needy, Ezekiel 16 48 thru 50. They had fallen into sin so badly that it was very grievous, Genesis 18 20 And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous I had stated that I did not know if homosexuality was the only sin in that city but when you read the scriptures this was the sin most focused on. This is why God destroyed that city. It was not time for God to destroy the whole Earth again. The reason is because the prophecy of Jesus Christ had not be fulfilled as of yet, Genesis 3 15. However, God can destroy any and part of the Earth he wants. We still have floods that destroy some communities. We still have Volcanos that destroy some properties. We still have hurricanes, tornadoes, and tsunamis that destroy land, homes, and communities. However, God will not destroy the whole earth until after the rapture and the tribulation period has been completed.

You must understand that Sodom and Gomorrah were not destroyed because they were "decadent " if that were true he would have pulled another "Noah 's Flood " only with fire . The destruction of "S G " was to protect the "Progeny of the Covenant ". Read Genesis Chapter 18 God didn 't want the Sodom Gomorrah men sodomizing little Isaac. Sexual intercourse is as much a spiritual event as it is a physical event. Remember Jacob 's daughter Dinah? She was NOT raped !!!!! She was defiled !!!!! Check out Webster 's Dictionary to discover the difference. Where did Jesus the Christ stand on the "Covenant Progeny " issue? ...aka Israel ? Read Matthew 15 24 Do not confuse the "Covenant People " aka Israel with the United Nations ' creation back in 1948. Anyone can deny Jesus, and then convert to Judaism, and then become a citizen of that country. But it has nothing to do with the Covenant between Abraham Isaac Jacob Israel and their descendants. That country is nothing more than a "slight of hand " to distract Bible Believing Christians from the true meaning of "God 's Word ".

In verse number 20 when God said, And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous If I can say it like this notice the word sin there is no s on it to indicate plural or many sins. The focused seemed to have been on the one particular sin. That was the desire of men with men. Homosexuality. When the LORD said in verse 21 I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me and if not, I will know . The scripture stated it , referring back to sin being singular. The only thing sin or it focused on that night was those men asking and wanting to have the angels of God which were men. They did not want the women that Lot offered them. They wanted the men. Think about this, if their intentions were honorable why did Lot offer his virgin daughters? This is continue with the next Genesis 19.

One of the many attributes and names of God is the Omnipotent, El Shaddai who alone specialises in things that are impossible with men Luke 1 37 . This passage is a lesson to us to trust God and exercise faith in HIM for whatever needs of our lives. Sarah had lost all hope that she could conceive at the age of 90yrs, and the question God asked is for ALL CHRISTIANS 'IS THERE ANYTHING TOO HARD FOR THE LORD? ' GEN. 18 14 . Let us come to God boldly with our requests, especially for a local, regional, state and national revival wherever we live to stem the evil tide that is presently consuming this corrupt world. All things are possible with God and He wants us to partner with HIM in prayers and faith based on the BIBLE. May God start a mighty revival through us in Jesus Name.

Discussing this in Bible Study and looking at the period of time and culture it seems as though the Lord was speaking directly to Abraham and he questioned and corrected his wife, but others said that the Lord spoke to Sara and coreected her Himself. Which is true?
