I love the book of Genesis it's the book of the beginning of man relationship with God and his plan for his creation, It is a book that each time you read the chapter it really open your spirit up to a deeper knowledge then what you may just see on the pages. It definitely keep you returning back for deeperwho was God referring to when he said 'let us make man in our image",It is a book of study.

Thank you ladies for your comments. I believe that Jesus created man in the likeness of himself, I get all that, and yes marriage is between one man and one woman. I'm married going on 31 yrs, 4 children, 4 grand children and 1 on the way! So yes I believe in the two shall become one flesh. The same way Jesus knows his bride and the bride knows him.

Irene: Yes, if only our world today would see the sacredness of Marriage - the uniting of Man and Woman under the Blessing of God.

"... What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." Matt. 19:6

    Peace!

To Hector on Gen. and marriage cont. -- The one out of God's grace may yet return in repentance. But if not , no matter how long he/she lives out of God's will the other spouse cannot remarry - unless she/he leaves also. Sinners can do whatever they want; they are not bound by God's laws - except for their 'end'. A persons soul always belongs to God. But we all have free will.
  • Irene123 on Genesis 1 - 8 years ago
To Hector on Gen. and marriage. The best place to go for answers on marriage, divorce is 1 Cor. 7 (note v. 11). If they are both living for God and one leaves the marriage ( in which case the one leaving is nor longer living for God) the one still in the church cannot remarry unless his/her spouse dies. because God considers them both still married if they are both still alive.
  • Billy Blazier on Genesis 1 - 8 years ago
Jesus is the word of God in human form John CH 1 the word became flesh and dwelt among us They both share the same spirit and the spirit was given because Jesus said he would never leave or forsake us
  • Loren on Genesis 1 - 8 years ago
Hector: Thank you for your reply. The only reason God "gave" divorce was, " ... because of the hardness of your hearts... " Matt. 19:8. Before it was not so, "... and they are no more twain, but ONE FLESH...." verse 6 - Man and Woman make child/ Man and Man do not and cannot. Man and Woman created in the image of God ( Gen. 1:26,27)

    Peace, my friend
  • Hector on Genesis 1 - 8 years ago
To Loren, on Gen.2:24 Jesus referred to this statement as the basis for marriage ( Matt. 19:5) and Eph. 5:31-32 uses it as an expression of the relationship of Christ to the church. The married couple should function as a single unit of " one flesh." However, it is not man in isolation, but man in restoration. What happens when the man and woman divorce? Are they still one flesh?
  • Loren on Genesis 1 - 8 years ago
To Hector, Yes, the Jews did indeed, refer to Elohiym as "GOD", not "GODS". In fact we see the Philistines had this misconception, "...Woe unto us, for who shall deliver us out of the hand of THESE mighty GODS." 1 Sam.4:8 KJV

Man and woman, two persons, in the IMAGE of God, are united to be "ONE FLESH" Gen. 2:24, bearing children from themselves-consummating - oneness

Philippians 2:6,7 tells us that Jesus was made in the likeness of men, he became human and had all the charsteristics of a human being. In human form Jesus Christ felt hungry, became tired, was tempted, but never once sinned. As a human being Jesus Christ needed to be spiritually strenghtened and that is one of the reason why He prayed to His Father.

Job 38:4-7(NLT)Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell me, if you know so much. Who determined its dimensions and stretched out the surveying line? What supports its foundations, and who laid its cornerstone as the morning stars sang together and all the ANGELS shouted for joy? Who was God talking to? God was talking to his angels when he created the heavens and earth.

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God...
Everything that is not God depends totally on God. The entire universe is utterly secondary. It came into being by God and stays in being moment by moment on God's decision to keep it in being. Exodus 3:14 and God said unto Moses, I AM WHO I AM...
  • Buck Owens on Genesis 1 - 8 years ago
In the beginning . . . In means with in, inside.
the beginning means integral commencement . What began?
Verse 2, tell us. To start one needs something that was before start. No one can start anything without them first being there to start it. One needs move as in movement so it can fall back on itself, so it can create its image); it needs light and it needs water.

Genesis 1:27 So God created man in his OWN image, in the image of God created HE him; male and female created HE them.
Colossians 1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: vs16 For by HIM were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible,.. all things were created by HIM and for HIM: JESUS IS THE IMAGE OF THE INVISIBLE GOD

To Susan - sorry, I hadn't read your previous comment of 26/5/16 at 3.37pm when I gave my comment. It looks like I copied what you said! Obviously we believe the same thing. Also, in the books of John 1, ( 1 John 4:10,14 - God sent His Son), ( 1 John 4:15 - confess that Jesus is the Son of God....) we read 1 John 5:5-7 - proof of the Trinity. Verse 7 will prove this. Again, 1 John 5:11

  • Hector on Genesis 1 - 8 years ago
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Yes, The word "God" is translated from the plural Elohim, which is used over 2,000 times in the OT to refer to the one true God of Israel and to his singular name Jehovah as it is described in Genesis 22:14. A Jew would never entertain the thought of multiple Gods (plural). God said, I am He, I created, I spoke... Not "We" in Him!

The bible says in ( Genesis 1:26) Let us make man in our image. After our likeness.
The Bible tells us about the three persons of God.
The Father. The Son. And the Holy Ghost. They are one not in number but in unity. ( 1 John 5:7) For There Are Three that bear record in heaven. The Father. The Word. And The Holy Ghost; and these three are one.
  • Marvin on Genesis 1 - 8 years ago
The Bible says in ( Genesis 1:26) And God said. Let us make man in our image. after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea. and over the fowl of the air. and over the cattle. and over all the earth. and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

The Bible teach us how God created us in his own image. And how God being in three persons. being united.

John 3:13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.

Jesus is in Heaven even as he is speaking with Nicodemus on earth. He, God is omnipresent in all persons at all times.

Well when I get to the throne and look at Christ sitting at the right hand of God I will see God by following Christ hand up His arm up to His face and that is the Face of God and God's image.
  • Cheryl on Genesis 1 - 8 years ago
Irene123, why did Jesus pray to the Father in the garden of Gethsemane (or any other time)? And why did He promise to send the Comforter (Holy Spirit) to the disciples so they would not be left alone when He ascended into heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father? God is three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit but ONE GOD; all three have the same mind.
