The translators of the King James Bible, or Authorised Version, knew the word for Heaven in this first verse of scripture was in the plural in the Hebrew language, yet they must have understood their exceptional regard for proper grammar forced them to translate it deliberately in the singular in English. They must have felt certain the writer was speaking of the short period of time before the stars and the rest of the universe was created a few days later. At any rate, it is unreasonable to think they were unaware of it being a plural Hebrew word. This is not an oversight on their part by any means.

Genesis 1 is a beautiful scripture about the creation and just how awesome God is. There appear to be two creation stories: Genesis 1 and Genesis 2. Genesis 1 speaks of both male and female being created in the image of God. Since God is spirit then the first male and female created are spirit. Genesis 2 says man was formed from the dust of the ground and God breathed into his nostrils and he became living. Then God performed the first surgery, putting man under, and opening his side and taking a rib and creating Eve, which I think there is something to be learned here for the medical community. That's a whole different topic. But Genesis 2 appears to be the second creation because Genesis 2:4 says these are the generations (plural) of the heavens and earth when they were created and made. Finally, in Genesis 1 everything was not only good but very good. It's not until the physical man was created in Genesis 2 that they were told this is good and that is bad. But I think the both Genesis stories teach us where we originated spiritually and physically and all the way in revelations it tells of another creation where those who survive Genesis 2 will become like Genesis 1 again where all things will be very good.

when god said "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness" he is referring to the people he came to earth with, his host!
  • Semuyaba Robert on Genesis 1:1 - 11 years ago
I think it's telling us the creation of sky & the earth in way that the bible is telling us what was created on the earth minus what was created in the heavens other wise we would have read about the creation of the angels

It is so awesome to read what God spoke and it appeared as he said his word is powerful and who can deny that there is a God.
  • Osigwe evans on Genesis 1 - 11 years ago
God is powerful that is why the bible says is wisdom is above human comprehension he is incomparable.
  • Vickey Hunter on Genesis 1 - 11 years ago
I love the reading. It goes to show how powerful and awesome my God is. How would God know how to create all of the world?

Mario that's correct and if you notice 2 of every flesh got on Noah's boat and you can find Cain's people in Genesis 15:17 and even in 1 Chronicles 2:55 where they moved in keeping the books for the Israel. Not a good people as you read from what they did through the word.

God created man and woman on the 6th day. But Adam was created after the sabath day (7th) is this not correct? Did'nt Cane's wife come from the 6th-day creation?

Genesis 1:28. I believe Adam and Eve are the first humans created, however, why does God use the term 'Replenish' when telling Adam and Eve to multiply on the Earth?
  • BITRUS SAMUEL MAGAJI on Deuteronomy 22:5 - 11 years ago
All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching the truth, rebuking error, correcting faults, and giving instruction for right living, so that the person who serves God may be fully qualified and equipped to do every kind of good deed ( 2 Timothy 3:16 ).
This means that all the books, chapters and verses, in the holy bible from Genesis 1:1 to Revelation 22:21, is inspired by God. God is unchangeable and when he say yes nobody can say no or semi-yes and vice versa. So please don't be deceived by anybody (Mathew 24:4 ).

Hi Liz, I would like to answer your question as to who Cain married. Because Eve was the mother of all living (Adam actually named his wife after they sinned and were kicked out of the garden) Cain could have only married his sister. This actually isn't too hard to swallow. In the beginning there were no genetic mistakes in the gene pool and for the first 2,000 years marrying close relations wouldn't have caused much of a problem with offspring. God only forbid it in the time of Moses. I believe it was for health reasons and of course some close relations would have been evil in his sight. Like a son marrying his mother. The Egyptians didn't regard the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob so they suffered many birth defects as they continued to marry close relations. Consider that Abraham married his half sister and God did not condemn him. There was no law against it. We literally are all related and go back to Noah and his three sons. The Bible says that from Noah's three sons came the nations of the world.

I could be wrong but I think the answer to Rev Canon is that when God said there was evening and there was morning, a second day he is counting like we do in the sense that from 1am-12pm that is our morning and then from 1pm-12am is the evening/night. So no it was still 24 hours because even on the first day he said there was evening and there was morning, a first day.

There is no where in the creation that God created Hell either.
  • Joseph on Genesis 1 - 11 years ago
@ Christine. That account is on Genesis chapter 2:18-21. May the Holy spirit guide you out of confusion. I think the account in Genesis 1
, the creation of Man and female were in God's mind. Just like us before we do anything we first do it in our minds. So I believe the physical creation comes in chapter 2. God bless u!

John, unfortunately when we are operating and taking our evidence from within the spiritual sphere, it mostly becomes futile and sometimes impossible to explain these things using a scientific perception. People who live their lives within the spiritual perspective can quite easily enter the scientific perspective, but people who perceive things scientifically only cannot yet perceive things in the spiritual perspective. This is my experience as a person who once could only perceive the material world but can now perceive both scientific AND spiritual perspectives. as you are on this website I sense you may soon begin to perceive things spiritually as that is what happened to me and others I know. We started our spiritual journeys by sceptically questioning spiritual matters and craving for those things to be explained to us with science. My experience taught me that it doesn't go to plan and we are then "forced" into the spiritual perception when it all becomes clearer and we can then operate within both the spiritual and scientific perspectives. Hope this helps! But you won't get the answers you are looking for in the way you are asking right now.

Sin did not enter into the world until Eve chose to doubt God's goodness and ate the forbidden fruit. The earth/ground was not cursed until AFTER they were cast out of the garden. The tree came from the ground and God cursed the ground. Though God put the tree there, He did not create sin. It was merely the tree of KNOWLEDGE of Good and Evil. This is all in Genesis, ask Him for understanding and He will show you the Truth. You can't make any well-informed decision without first ALLOWING yourself to become informed.
