I've recently started looking at verse three in view of John 1:3-4, and Revelation 5:6. Since God is light ( 1 John 1:5), why else would He say "Let there be light" if not to provide the lamb of salvation for His creation?

Dominion seems to have basically the same meaning no matter where you look.
    Webster's definition; : supreme authority : sovereignty
from Old French, from Latin dominium ownership, from dominus master
    Hebrew definition; rule, dominion, realm.

So it seems to me God has given man complete control over the earth including animals, birds, fish, reptiles, etc.
  • Maureen on Genesis 1:26 - 11 years ago
The words, rule, dominion, and subjection have all been used in various bibles but I can never find a true meaning. Were all the other living creatures supposed to work for humans or was a relationship of looking over them and providing any needs that they may have? I know at the beginning no one killed or ate animals so it seem to me there was more of a companionship role like we have pets today.

This is an affirmative statement, it must be accepted to gain any understanding of God and what his intentions for creation are, God is saying, in the beginning God DID create the heaven and the earth. Why, how and all other questions must start with the belief of this verse, or we cannot communicate to our hearts what God is revealing. As a child must trust the word of his parents and rest in that trust, likewise I must trust this verse completely and base my understanding of the Bible in the fact, God DID it!

I enjoy all the answers because I used to be ashamed to ask questions, but my 2 deacons told me that no question is a stupid. Now I must read every day to understand; I love reading Genesis and learning about the beginning.
  • Blessed64 on Genesis 1 - 11 years ago
I experience and feel scripture as the Holy Spirit fills my heart and soul; don't think much during this time; just do the will of God. Christians think too much with their own minds - instead of the Mind of Christ.

    I love the Old Testament.

Isaiah 28:13, in order to understand the accounts given, we must read the rest of the book, the interpretation is written on the next chapter. Just as the account of Cain and Abel, we are told about their strife, then we are told about their lineage. Just as later in genesis, the way the lands and Isles of the Gentiles are divided, then says when and why they were divided. We get an overview per se, then the detailed account of what we need to know. We must look at each verse as a brick or row of bricks being assembled into a building, we must look at what is being built. There are 66 books in the combined cannons, each book is split also into sections (depending on the book), and since we cannot receive the entire message in one moment, it must literally be spelled out, word by word and line by line until it all comes together and we see what is being built/said. The word of GOD reveals itself, if you get stuck reading the Bible, ask the one who wrote it first, before asking dust like ourselves who only confuse ourselves. May the Most High GOD of Israel, Father of Yeshua HaMashiach Jesus the Christ, open our understanding in the name of his grace, Yeshua HaMashiach our Lord and redeemer from The Most High. Amen. Shalom.

    Hi Dylan,
In fact there are not 2 creations of man (and woman) in the book of Genesis, but one which took place in Genesis 1:27. God then created them male and female in His own likeness.
Now in Genesis 2, God did not create man the second time, but just formed man (body), because what man’s body is made of was already created when God created the heavens and earth, Genesis 2:7.
Which means Genesis 2:7 just completes Genesis 7:26-28 where God created the spiritual side of man, which creation no one can explain; yet in Genesis 2:7, God gives a body to that spiritual man, a body God formed from already existing natural elements. But that was simultaneous, it is only the count that separate them.
    God bless you.

I'm confused. In the first chapter of Genesis it says that both man and woman were made in God's image; but in the second chapter it says that man was made in God's image after the seventh day and that woman was made from man. Which one is correct?

Hi guys, we're so blessed we're here because we're made by God. God created each one of us as special so treat everyone as special. God loves us so much, so love one another; we're created like Him, so it's pretty nice if we live like Him. The LORD bless everyone. Lovelots

Why did God create the world?
  • Jones chisom on Genesis 1:1 - 11 years ago
God Himself is the author of life. He alone created the whole universe and by Him all things that exist were made. All things were made by Him and for Him. All things exist and were originated through Him.
  • Denise on Genesis 1:3 - 11 years ago
In Genesis 1:1, there is God, Genesis 1:2, there is the Holy Spirit, Genesis 1:3, there is Jesus (the Light). That is the Trinity and no coincidence that it shows up in the first three verses of the Bible!

You will find the seed of everything; animal, vegetable or mineral in itself. That’s a universal truth.
