    Wesley's Commentary for Genesis 2:20

2:18-20 It is not good that man - THIS man, should be alone - Though there was an upper world of angels, and a lower world of brutes, yet there being none of the SAME RANK of beings with himself, Adam might be truly said to be alone. And every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air God brought to Adam - Either by the ministry of angels, or by a special instinct that he might name them, and so might give a proof of his knowledge, the names he gave them being expressive of their inmost natures.

There were other beings: God's created angels; and the evil angels who followed Lucifer. God chose neither.

He chose to perform surgery on Adam, with one of his ribs. If my memory is right: men have one less rib than women do. Someone medical can prove that.

Hi Joseph, maybe I misunderstood your question. I thought you were referencing specifically to Adam.

Even though these events appear to have happened in chronological order as they are recorded in the Bible, it is possible that the other men and women were the sons and daughters of Adam and Eve. Genesis 5:4 Adam lived 930 years before he died.

We do not know how much time had passed before Cain knew his wife. I believe the bloodline has a lot to do with the seed that God spoke about in Genesis 3:15, which we know is Christ. Something to consider!

Wife of Caine, and people that Caine was afraid that they'll avenge the killing of Abel, meaning there were other people besides the three of them.

I see that when you first approach someone you will "attack" using bold statements through personal words. When you are asked questions about your response you will grab any "relevant" scripture you can find and post it. You won't use your own words to give an answer in response. This means one thing.. your heart is hardened and biased. You seem to come in here to confront and cause abrasion. I believe you know this.

    Since you won't respond heres but one scripture I will give you, sir;

Galatians 3:26. What does that scripture mean to you? Not my words, it is directly from THE word.

I pray for you to find peace within your heart and to overcome whatever spirit is causing abrasion and separation in your thoughts.

    God Bless

I believe that the word "suitable" to put it in simple terms means, that she was of the same kind as Adam. For every species in the animal kingdom, God created male and female for them to reproduce in the earth, however for Adam there was no female version of him.

Hence, God spoke, "it is not good that the man should be alone".....
  • Joseph Burger - In Reply on Genesis 1:27 - 4 years ago
    My question referred to Gen.2v20.

Meaning of "suitable helper" in that sentence.

Does that mean (God) had a choice to choose from "other " women as helper or wife?

    Genesis 1:30

"And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so

    John 6:63

"It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life."

Thank you for your response :).

I will look that verse and the others in a little bit.

Yes, my dream was beautiful I will never forget it. It got my attention and I kept searching. I'm so happy to tell you a few years later, we started going to Church and my husband and I both were saved, Thank God. God works in mysterious ways. Not long after that day, my 2 brothers and a sister in law was saved. Then it wasn't long when my daughter, 2 nieces and a nephew was saved. We all kept praying for my Dad to go to church. Many years later him and my mom were at my aunt's house in Kentucky. They talked him into going with them to their little country church.Praise the Lord my Dad got saved and was Baptized. So thankful my mom was with him.She had prayed and shed many tears over the years for him. A few more years later, my dad passed away. But even though it was so so sad losing him, I know by God's Grace and His never ending love, our family will be together

She may have been referring to Isaiah 35:1-4

    Your dream sounds beautiful.

    Isaiah 35:5-6 = John 9

How to be saved, please read

    John 3:16

    Mathew 5

    Mathew 6

    Mathew 7

    Jude 1

    Hopefully that's helpful

    From the Commentary Box

Cautions against rash suretiship. (1-5) A rebuke to slothfulness. (6-11) Seven things hateful to God. (12-19) Exhortations to walk according to God's commandments. (20-35)1-5 If we live as directed by the word of God, we shall find it profitable even in this present world. We are stewards of our worldly substance, and have to answer to the Lord for our disposal of it; to waste it in rash schemes, or such plans as may entangle us in difficulties and temptations, is wrong. A man ought never to be surety for more than he is able and willing to pay, and can afford to pay, without wronging his family; he ought to look upon every sum he is engaged for, as his own debt. If we must take all this care to get our debts to men forgiven, much more to obtain forgiveness with God. Humble thyself to him, make sure of Christ as thy Friend, to plead for thee; pray earnestly that thy sins may be pardoned, and that thou mayest be kept from going down to the pit.

Twice God allowed some kind of visual but not clearly. JAcob only saw his back. Moses only saw His Fire.

Go do a search on burning bush.

Naturally they were afraid because of, "no man can see God and live."

I do not have a complete answer on your question of Why is wisdom a she. However, here are some things I learned, that are facts. In the judgment upon Adam and Eve, in Genesis chapter three, because Adam was the husband, he makes the final decision with the input of his wife. Adam chose against Jesus, and chose sin and death. Adam could of stopped the fall of man by saying no to Eve. It was the man's failure. 2. The son of Jehovah, Jesus, was born of The Holy Ghost in an immaculate conception and the seed of a Woman, Mary. The man, and his seed was not selected, but the seed of a woman. 3. In Jesus' resurrection he appears first to the women, and not to the Apostles. I learned that the faith of the women was greater than the Apostles, and the Apostles struggled to believe Jesus' prophecy about himself, and failed to believe the women. The women were of a stronger faith, and believed Jesus' teachings more than the Apostles. 4. In the beginning, the male and female were made in the image of God Genesis 1:27. Thus, the female is equal to the male, in her soul. 5. A woman's special role of bearing children and being a Mother provides her insight into her Creator Jesus, that the men shall never have. The Song of the Woman's soul sings her love song to her baby in the womb for the entire gestation, and creates a love bond between mother and child, that the father does not have.

21 I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran: I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied.

22 But if they had stood in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear my words, then they should have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings.

    26 How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies? yea, they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart;

27 Which think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbour, as their fathers have forgotten my name for Baal.

28 The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? saith the Lord.

29 Is not my word like as a fire? saith the Lord; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?

30 Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, saith the Lord, that steal my words every one from his neighbour.

31 Behold, I am against the prophets, saith the Lord, that use their tongues, and say, He saith.

    be quiet and learn

27 He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.

28 Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

    thats not a true statement

4 God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.

11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

7 For the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the Lord of hosts.

no one should listen to your philosophy

8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

the sabbath never changes and we must observe the sabbath throughout our generations...

16 wherefore the children of israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.

17 it is a sign between me and the children of israel for ever: for in six days the lord made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.

    Does the say

    be a christian

    or

    does it say

    keep my commandments?

4 they have said, come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of israel may be no more in remembrance.

and we being the children of god

must come back to our true nationality

and put away the labels that was placed on us

    by the oppressor

5 one shall say, i am the lord's; and another shall call himself by the name of jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the lord, and surname himself by the name of israel.

by the way what is the first commandment

was the first commandment addressed to christians?

the truth shall make you free

If we aren't of this "righteous seed, specific nationality," what would be the point of being a Christian? Why even try? Why believe?

Are you of this "righteous seed, specific nationality?"

Afternoon meditation: God on the seventh day rested in his works. Mankind in their day separated themselves from God eternally. Yet God in his Mercy while in His rest promised mankind a way out of this damnation by faith in his Son. In the fullness of time as man's faith had dimmed and man living fully in his own day, in order to have peace again, to have faith again, to have reconciliation with God, had to prepare a Passover feast. God's Son left his Sabbath rest and returned to man's day to be the Spotless sacrifice for the Passover feast. The Lamb was slain and the blood was applied to the believing kind. Together the Lamb, Jesus Christ and the faith of his believing kind entered into the spiritual Sabbath.

13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the Lord that doth sanctify you.

14 Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people.

15 Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.

16 Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.

17 It is a sign between me and the children of Israel forever
