The Bible doesn't say that Cain murdered Abel, jut that they got into a fight and Cain killed him. Self-defense has always been a defense. One of you said that Cain married his sister. That is not true. Cain moved to the City of Nod, and married someone there.

Grace: Adam called his wife's name,Eve because she was the mother of all living. Genesis 3:20.
  • A disciple on Genesis 4 - 8 years ago
Grace; Adam and Eve had many, many more children than just Cain, and Abel, and Seth: It would naturally have been one of Cain's sisters that he took for a wife. There were no other people created besides Adam and Eve, and their children; and it wouldn't have been considered wrong to take a sister or a half sister or first cousin, like it might be today and in our culture.
  • Grace on Genesis 4 - 8 years ago
How does one explain the presence of other people in Genesis 4 e.g. who did Cain marry If Adam and Eve were the first people that God created?
  • A disciple on Genesis 4 - 8 years ago
Mr. Frye; God is a Spirit, and they that worship Him must worship in Spirit and in Truth. The Mark of God on the foreheads of His Redeemed Elect is spiritual and therefore becomes apparent to men's view. Cain and Abel knew first hand from their parents Adam and Eve, exactly what had happened, and the Word of God that Christ would come because of it. Abel believed, and Cain was hateful and hostile!

I have read and read and re-read Genesis 4 many times, And I'm wondering if Cain really was The Devils son. I don't want to believe that but, how it states it seems like he actually was. And I'm struggling with this, It's even difficult for me to even consider this. But the words are their ( I will put Emity between your off spring and Hers ) ( and He shall Crush your head with his Heel ).

Bertski: Verse 3: eventually Cain brought an offering. 4: Able brought The Best, The First for an Offering. 7: The LORD told Cain if he done better he would be excepted.
  • Enoch on Genesis 4 - 8 years ago
Bertski...there is enough info to deduce why THE LORD honored abel's offering and not cain's...abel offered first fruits but cain did not...early lesson of proper sacrifice and foreshadowing GOD sacrificing his first born for us
  • A disciple on Genesis 4 - 8 years ago
Bertski; Cain and Abel were THE first sons of the actual first parents, Adam and Eve; and we have to expect, that inasmuch as succeeding generations still had some knowledge about what transacted between God and the man and his wife, and the devil being condemned by the coming of Christ; then it follows that the first sons would also have had the knowledge most perfectly. Cain rejected the Truth!
  • Bertski on Genesis 4 - 8 years ago
Murder is the killing of the innocent with malice aforethought. Look at Cain, he knew others would readily kill him, we don't know, but perhaps as a thought of Justice. As to why God honored Abels sacrifice and not Cains', we don't have enough information as I see to deduct anything. Except that blood is required for remission of sin. Speculation is deceitful, where it doesn't mean it's fact.

I think I should correct something from my last post. In Genesis 4:25-26 was mentioned when "men began to call on the Name of the LORD;" or more accurately, "When men began to call themselves by the Name of the LORD." As the birth of Seth was pronounced by his parents as being to replace Abel whom Cain murdered; and so the new beginning of the sacred line of sons of God. Cain chose to be heathen.

IN the earth, changed to ON the earth. Huge significance! The Lords Prayer also changed from IN, to ON.................IN is something they'd rather you didn't know with the 66 books we're left with.

Jevon; Murder is: the unlawful premeditated killing of one human being by another. In the Law of the LORD, the one who premeditates to kill someone is worthy of death; and the innocent blood is not taken away from the land except by the blood of him that shed it. Accidental killing of a man is not murder; and the one who does it is granted asylum in a City of Refuge that he may escape the avenger.

Murderer is mentioned 20 times in the KJV Bible. Numbers 35:16- 35:17- 35:18- 35:19-35:21- 35:30- 35:31 2 Kings 6:32- Job 24:14- Hosea 9:13- John 8:44- Acts 3:14- Acts 28:4 - 1 Peter 4:15- and 1 John 3:15 says, Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
  • Jevon on Genesis 4 - 8 years ago
What is a murderer? IS it the one that says Am I my brother's keeper or what is it at all?

Dear Brother Jim; God has been able in every age to provide Himself good and faithful witnesses. No matter how much we may want to give the children of the devil the benefit of the doubt, and say, Maybe it was for this reason, or, maybe its because of that... and still find a way to blame ourselves; God Himself, at a certain point lets men have their own minds, and the kind of spirits they want.
  • JIm on Genesis 4 - 8 years ago
The sacrifice offering has to be the Lords way. Abel believed the Lord and did it the Lords way. Cain believed not and did it Cains way.
  • Jessi Chapman on Genesis 4 - 8 years ago
The reason God excepted Abel sacrifice over Cain was because Abel put God first. He tells us even in his ten commandments he should always be put first. He gave him his firstlings. The Word tells us that Cain was the son of Satan. We ourselves must chose good over evil(sin).
  • Scott on Genesis 4 - 8 years ago
Donna, God is more concerned with the Spirit in which we offer our sacrifice than he is with the sacrifice itself. God knew Cain’s heart and that he really didn’t want to give his best. Note that it says, “respect unto Abel and to his offering” and then later “But unto Cain and to his offering”. So, the respect was first unto the man and 2nd unto the offering.
  • A disciple on Genesis 4 - 8 years ago
Hello Donna; Seeing that Cain and Abel were the first generation after Adam and Eve; the boys would have known full well the story of what happened, right from the Originals themselves. The LORD saw that Cain completely omitted from his accounting of himself before God the whole truth of his present condition being intrinsically connected to the coming of the Saviour. God cannot respect that kind!
  • Donna Cromb on Genesis 4 - 8 years ago
I too wondered why God didn't like Cain's offering and was told by an elder that the fruit of Abel's sacrifice, the lamb, referred back to God's promise of the coming of Jesus Christ. Even back then God had promised salvation when He told about the children of Satan would bruise His heel, meaning Jesus would die. I'm still a little confused.

Norlan: Again out of context with Romans 7. Paul is telling us who he was and not who he is. Paul uses the law of divorce and remarriage to show you have to be dead to one in order to be married to another. Paul is telling us when he was under sin sin had rule over him Genesis 4:7. Now he rules over sin Romans 8:1 he is pulling you out of Romans 7.
  • Evangelist Andrew Kelly - 8 years ago
Romans 7:17-20 Paul is telling us that when sin has dominion over you, you cannot do the things you want to as sin will defeat your plans. Paul refers to Genesis 4:7 what God told Cain. When sin rules over you in trouble.
Genesis 4:7] If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.

BSP; I've thought a lot about this thing with Cain and Abel. Since they were the first generation after their parents were expelled from the Garden; we should expect that the boys knew the whole story very well, from the very "Adam and Eve" themselves! That means they would know what God all said to them, and to the devil; and about the Anointed announced to come through the woman to redeem us.
  • BSP on Genesis 4 - 8 years ago
Verse 7: Cain had a bad heart and Jehovah God warned him that he needed to get control of himself. Cain proudly refused to listen to God and he murdered his brother.

Cheryl Dawn just to add this to think about it, that happened before the law. God made His decision. The way I see it is that Cain came from Satan and many more of Satans followers would have to come to be born of the flesh. Matt. 13:36-40 where the wicked one sends his tares. Jesus spoke to them in John 8. So I know there were kenites. If that helps.
  • Cheryl Dawn on Genesis 4 - 8 years ago
According to the Holy Bible, if any sheds mans blood, they shall have their blood shed. Thankfully I am not one of those ever. So for God to allow Cain to have a mark on him so that others will not kill Cain is against what the Holy Bible later says as I wrote about shedding mans blood. Man as in male and female He made them. Would God go against Himself?Did someone else make Cain kill?If so who?

Gen. 4:7 - "If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto the shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him."
Paraphrase - If you'll do well, your brother will seek for your counsel, and you'll rule over him as the authoritative head of the family. "The Word Started it All."
