Death is a terrible thing, and it was not God's first idea for man. God made us to be His children and to live for ever. It is a very sad that we have to die. Sin is cannot be taken lightly; for we all can see its real nature, and the terrible end we all must come to because of it. Because of Jesus, we can be reconciled to God, and the sins taken away; and we will live again. This life is not all.

this teaches us about forgiveness, despite the hatred of Joseph's brethren on him, he forgave them of their past and dealt kindly with them. He had hope that one day his people will return to canaan.

Joseph had truly forgiven his brothers. He saw the bigger picture of the salvation of his family instead of focusing on the past wrongs of his brothers.

I suggest: Jesus was hung upon a tree, as the Old Testament of our Lord declared, and it was the Tree of Life, manifested out of wood, declaring our vertical horizon relationships with His church family and of His life in the world, brought together at the Cross through the sacrifice of Jesus in our place, though we are undeserving. And from this fruit, our Father made good His promise from ill, Genesis 50:20 , and the Son was resurrected returned to the Father, thus enabling the Holy Spirit to pour out Life, from seed to seed, redemption restoration, everlasting.

Joseph was a man of faith. He kept his hope alive that one day, his people would leave Egypt for the promised land.

Joseph truly showed a forgiving and humble attitude. Instead of taking matters into his own hand and getting revenge, he left matters in God 's hand. Judging belongs to God and we should leave matters in His hands.

God has blessed humankind with the gift of freewill. If josephs banishment by his brothers is the work of god to prolong the sons of israels existence then is that not a contradiction of the concept of freewill?

How many questions and wondering on all the sex, adultery, incest and violence of Genesis - Realize that there was NO law until Moses brought the Chosen People out of the land of Egypt! It was not until YHVH gave the ten commandments to Moses that retribution for iniquity, or sin against the Father, was exacted of man.
  • MARK K on Genesis 50 - 12 years ago
GLORY TO GOD, FOR HIS KINDNESS AND LOVE FOR HUMANS AND ALL HIS CREATURES, IS IN INDEED THE ONLY ESISTING LIVEING FATHER, WITH AN ENDLESS MERCY AND LOVE, WE ALL HAVE TO ALWAYS YIELD OUR THOUGHT AND AS WELL AS OUR LIVES TO GOD, ALL THE TIME, BY FAITH NO MATTER WHAT COMES, AND NEVER TO MAKE AND DECISIONS, WITHOUT THE HELP OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, FOR GOD IS PERFECT, AND CAN NEVER DECEIVE ANY OF CREATURE IS A GOOD GOD, AN UNFORGIVEN HEART IS EQUAL A WICKED MAN,WE MUST LIVE IN FORGIVENESS, BY ANY MEANS, SO THAT WE TOO CAN FIND FAVOUR ALWAYS IN THE SIGHT OF GOD.
  • Filip on Genesis 50 - 12 years ago
I think that we often do, for some rosean, need permission. I have found Marianne Williamson's words to be true. "And, as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."McLaren's Generous Orthodoxy gave me "permission" to have certain thoughts. And I realize that in some conversations, I have given similar permission to others.I think that is why the core of fundamentalism is to control thoughts and words... once those thoughts get out there, they spread like fire.

Ancient Jews had a custom: when a baby boy is born, after seven days father puts him on his knees and says: "Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee."
This quote is from Psalm 2:7.
All this is for certain but I am not sure if there is a connection with Genesis 50:23.
    GOD BLESS YOU ALL

  • Reggie on Genesis 50 - 13 years ago
The life of Joseph amplifies the scripture Rom.8:28 All things work together for good to them that love the Lord, called according to his purpose. It is so tender, seeing Joseph weep for his brothers. When our hearts tender and yeilded to God's will, then whatever comes whether life or death, where abounding or suffering need, amoung friends or lonely--- God is in control and it is God who works in you both to will to do His good pleasure!! (see Phil.2:13) agape--reggie--

But as for you, ye thought evil against me; [but] God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as [it is] this day, to save much people alive.

GOD is in charge of all situations.
