    Lamech disobeyed God in having more than one wife. The 2 shall become one flesh is not 3. Nor is it loving God, the women or Lameh. If God is Love and we are to imitate Him as dearly loved children as the Holy Bible says, 1=1! Perhaps Lamech repented of it afterwards and God allowed in His mercy Lamech to have Noah as his child because he repented or because he had a good wife and did it for her.

    Were years counted today as they were those days

    Genesis 5:1 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.

    2 And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
    It doesn't say and Abel was not Adams child anywhere on here.
  • Irene123 on Genesis 5 - 7 years ago
    Mary, 1 10 17, Gen. ch.5 Quote - "And Cain is not mentioned because Adam was not his father and Abel was not mentioned because he was killed by his paternal brother Cain." unquote. If Abel was his paternal bro., then how can Adam NOT be Cain's father?
  • Irene123 on Genesis 5 - 7 years ago
    Disciple - Thank-you for answering my question on false prophet. Yes, I agree with you on satan and His wanting to be equal with God.
  • A disciple on Genesis 5 - 7 years ago
    Irene; I was speaking to someone who called himself, (or, herself), "Prophet." My post didn't show up for some time; that's why it seems not to fit anything. This person was saying that Satan was at one time a son of God, and equal to Jesus: that is utterly false and blasphemy! As I wrote; and I'm sure every Christian must agree; only the devil has ever said or thought that he was equal to God.
  • Irene123 on Genesis 5 - 7 years ago
    a disciple, quote, "FALSE prophet ..... "; who are you talking to?
  • Irene123 on Genesis 5 - 7 years ago
    Sophia - 2016; Abel had no issue; Cain 'deleted' his birthright (no, I'm not confusing Cain 'n Esau); so the descent is from Adam.
  • A disciple on Genesis 5 - 7 years ago
    prophet (?) The Son of God is NOT a created being! Satan was never a son; but from the day he was created, he was found full of lies and pride and wickedness. Only the devil himself ever says that he was equal to Jesus: that's a lie, from the father of lies, who has NEVER stood in the truth, because there is no truth in him. Also beware! he who says Jesus has an unclean spirit, CANNOT be forgiven!
  • A disciple on Genesis 5 - 7 years ago
    FALSE "Prophet" you speak lies; as if you'd make the Lord of glory a created thing, and equal to the devil! How dare you come on this site, and say such blasphemy?
  • Irene123 on Genesis 5 - 7 years ago
    I am so sorry about my answer to Cheryl 2 mos. ago. It was King James scholars, ministers he appointed that God directed to set the cannon of the Bible. Why I said Constantine - I have no idea. Constantine has been credited with helping to influence the doctrine of the trinity. King J. was 1611 a.d.; Constantine was 325 a.d.
  • Mary on Genesis 5 - 7 years ago
    I don't know how your understanding Gods creation of man was nothing but clay, all our bodies go back to dust. And Cain is not mentioned because Adam was not his father and Able was not mentioned because he was killed by his paternal brother Cain.
  • Minister Donald Everage on Genesis 4 - 7 years ago
    Cain wife was one of his sisters. Genesis 5:4 says ; Adam beget sons and daughters. Abraham confess to Sarah been his sister (same father,different mother) and his wife in Genesis 20:11-12. This was permitted before the law. It was stopped by the law(Leviticus 18th and 20th chapters)that came through Moses . Also Jacob was permitted to marry two sisters which was also discontinued by the law.
  • Daniel on Genesis 5 - 7 years ago
    It seems to me, Chapter 5 glosses over thousands of years of history as if it were meaningless. Weren't the lavish, sloth sins of humans who lived for so ridiculously long the reason for the flood? Why is the flood not considered genocide????
  • Irene123 on Genesis 5 - 7 years ago
    To Cheryl on Constantine - Your query is reflective of Zacharia's in Lk. 1:18-20. God is sovereign and He is His word ( Jn. 1:1). He directed Constantine in the books to be included - along with others; Constantine didn't do it all by himself.
  • Heisiam on Genesis 5 - 8 years ago
    Cain and Able are not included b/c this is the lineage of Jesus Christ all the way back to Adam. God's seed that will bruise the head, of satan and thou shalt bruise his heel Gen 3 God's promise. The Bible tells the story of the redemption of a sinful people and a loving God who had and has grace and mercy toward His creation. Everything leads back to Jesus b/c He is the Savior hope this helps.
  • SOPHIA on Genesis 5 - 8 years ago
    WHY WAS NOT CAIN AND ABEL NAMED IN THE LIST?
  • Michael C. on Genesis 5 - 8 years ago
    The Book of Enoch? Moses made no mention of it, when "I AM" gave him to write the Book of the Beginnings, and the Law. Jude apparently quoted a passage from that book, about the Day of the LORD; but the rest doesn't feel like scripture at all! Was it a single Spirit-inspired word originally, then afterward added to an otherwise human spirit-inspired book? Was any of it actually around before then.
  • Michael C. on Genesis 5 - 8 years ago
    In the world of the beginning, the LORD was careful that Moses wrote precisely all things; and the number of the years of the holy Ancients, was not a mistake, or something other than we exactly read it! As the Lord said to Peter about John; "If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to you? You follow me." If God willed it for men to live 900 years, who is any man to question His power?
  • Cheryl on Genesis 5 - 8 years ago
    Enoch it is said he walked with God, and then was not, but yet their is the book of Enoch when did Enoch go on his journey
  • Bobby Walker (Warrior of YHWH) on Genesis 5 - 8 years ago
    Genesis 5 is a hidden Bible treasure.

    Adam = Man
    Seth = Appointed
    Enosh = Mortal
    Cainan = Sorrow
    Mahalalel = The Blessed God
    Jared = Shall come down
    Enoch = Teaching
    Methuselah = His death shall bring
    Lamech = The Despairing
    Noah = Comfort

    Man [has] appointed mortal sorrow; [but] the Blessed God shall come down teaching, [and] His death shall bring the despairing comfort.

    To Irene123, thanks for the "explanation". Not sure what you mean by the word "dispensation". Are you saying that the earth took less time to rotate around the sun in Noah's time ?

  • Irene123 on Genesis 5 - 8 years ago
    To 'p' on Gen. 6 - Noah lived in a different dispensation. The length of lives then isn't pertinent to us in this dispensation - the church age. The O.T. ages had to do with populating the earth and the lineage of God's people. The years had begun to shorten by the time of Abraham. Psalms 90: 10 tells that by David's time the years were in line with what they are today.
  • P on Genesis 5 - 8 years ago
    Noah had children when he was 500 years old? That's incredible. If it wasn't in the Bible I would think it was a made up story.
