I've heard it explained it was a perversion thing. Note they were adults, Genesis 6:18, Genesis 7:7,13, Genesis 8:16,18,

Genesis 9:22, honestly ask yourself would you go tell others? Or cover? Who showed their father honor? Genesis 9:23

Noah, "knew what his younger son had done to him." Genesis 9:24, it wasn't that he just saw.

There's additional information, to help readers understand, Genesis 9:18, Genesis 9:22, Genesis 9:25, Genesis 10:15, note Canaan, 1st recorded rape of a girl Genesis 33:18, Genesis 34:1-2, & Sodom & Gomorrah, Genesis 10:19, Genesis 13:13, Genesis 18:20, Genesis 18, Gen. 19,

Isaiah 3:9, Jeremiah 23:14, Ezekiel 16:49, Jude 1:7, it appears to point to a root of evil started with that person.

    Hopefully this is helpful

The Bible doesn't say that. It says : Genesis 9,

Genesis 9:18, Genesis 9:21-22, he didn't cover his father, yet went & told his brothers, notice they were all adults with wives, (not children) Genesis 7:7, I've heard some Pastors explain it was perversion. Also disrespectful, dishonoring his father & taking advantage of a bad situation. His brothers showed honor & respect: Genesis 9:23, Please read: Genesis 6:8-13, Notice Noah was Just & found favor with GOD, in a corrupt violent time. Doesn't say & his children were also "perfect or Just" Genesis 6:22, Genesis 7:1, Genesis 10, the lineage of Noah, Shem, Ham, & Japheth. Notice also in the curse he cursed "canaan" please see Genesis 10:18-19, they were the people of Sodom & Gomorrah. Was this perversion carried down? Even from before flood? Genesis 8:21,

    Genesis 13:13, Genesis 18:16-, Genesis 19, Zephaniah 2:9, 2 Peter 2:5-9, Isaiah 3:9,

Please rely on the WORD of GOD, if you study & read it thoroughly, you'll be surprised what it clarifies.

Hopefully this is helpful in answering your questions.

Genesis 6:5-8, Genesis 6:11-13, Genesis 6:19-21, yet HE preserved life. Genesis 9:9-17, John 3:15-16,

You don't need to look far to see disregard for life of babies, abortion kills millions & who spares a single child from it? Spade & nueter goes on constantly of animals destroying seed before reproduction. Crimes, injustice, lies, greed etc. If it was so wicked & coucorrupt then? I don't want to imagine. )=

Jocelynne Bell If we take a close look at Genesis it gives the answer. In gen. 1:6+7 the firmament is the word

expanse and the word expanse in verse 8 God calls heaven so anything above the earth is called heaven. Notice

verses 14-18 he set the stars and sun and moon in the firmament or expanse of heaven. Then there is heavens and

heavenlies. Notice also the God put the firmament in the midst of the waters and separated the waters above the

expanse from the waters below the expanse and let the dry land appear. Its interesting that astronomers have found

beyond our solar system balls of water larger hat planets floating, also in Genesis 7:11 that the fountains of the great

deep were opened up and the windows of heaven were opened and the rain was upon the earth forty day and nights.

    Hey James,

In Genesis 8:20-21 Noah offered burnt offerings on the altar of every clean beast and every clean fowl to God. The Burnt Offering, Olah in Hebrew, is the oldest sacrifice, we see it later the daily sacrifice, the Tamid. The burnt offering was the only offering that was entirely burned, all is given to God. Were there only two of each animal went in the ark? Genesis 7:1-3

In Genesis 3:21 when God clothed Adam and Eve with coats of skin is a shadow of the sacrifice of Jesus and when we accept this gift we are clothed with the garment of salvation, the robe of righteousness, white and spotless. Isaiah 61:10 As God did for Adam and Eve this garment covers our sins that we may not walk naked and our shame shall be seen, Revelation 3:4 Revelation 16:15.

God made a covenant with Noah and all living creatures that He would not destroy the world with water ever again and symbolized it with a rainbow. God gave a commandment to be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth, we see later they did not obey (the tower of Babel). All animals and creatures would fear man.

This is the first time in scripture where God gives the penalty for murder. The penalty for taking a life is the death of the murderer. When the life of a person is taken. God will require the punishment of death, whether the one who kills a person is a man or an animal. You will find this in Genesis 9.

    God bless,

Interesting to read everyone's comments on this chapter. I am thankful for the flood. Imagine the reign of evil in our world if wicked, blasphemous, unbelieving people lived until they were 900 years old throughout history. Imagine the accumulated knowledge of evil and wicked practices that would pervade all civilizations. God was merciful in His judgment.

Think about it, if Noah alone was righteous in His generation, would there be anyone standing for God today if the flood had not occurred? Would today have even ever came? Praise the Lord for his mercy! Ps. 19:9 says that the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous. Do we trust Him to judge rightly? Do we believe that he will judge everyone pre and post flood in perfect truth and righteousness? He knows the hearts of everyone and the plans He has for each person. He will judge all of the babies that died in the flood perfectly.

As I read this chapter the most important thing that stood out to me was that Noah lived out his faith by doing ALL that God had told him to do. It must have been hard to endure 500 years in a world so full of evil and violence. Did this make it harder or easier for Noah to stay true to God? Did he set his face like stone in the Lord's direction instead of the world's direction? Did experiencing the reality of living in such a wicked world strengthen his determination to follow God? I think it did. I think He grieved over the wickedness as the Lord did. I think he hated the wickedness like God did. I think he desired that people would repent and turn back to God like the Lord desires. In essence, the Spirit formed in Noah the "mind of Christ"; Christ was formed in him by the Spirit. This, too, is for us. If you ever wondered about what the point of developing godly habits was if we are forgiven for all of our sins in Jesus, think about Noah and the challenges he faced. His faith endured to the end. May that be true of each of us, too.
  • WHATYEAR DID THE ARK OF NOAH MAKE LANDFALL - In Reply on Leviticus 9 - 3 years ago
You're going to have to do some fancy googling; maybe read some Hebrew history. You can hang out or check tomorrow; CHRIS may already know that date.

    Genesis 6:9

These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.

    Genesis 7:13

    In the selfsame day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah's wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark;

    Genesis 5:32

And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

    Genesis 7:9

There went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God had commanded Noah.

    Isaiah 54:9

For this is as the waters of Noah unto me: for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so have I sworn that I would not be wroth with thee, nor rebuke thee.

    Genesis 9:28

And all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died.

    Genesis 7:6

And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth.

    Genesis 7:11

In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.

    Genesis 8:13

And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry.

    Genesis 10:1

Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood.

Biblical Contradictions in the form of a question:

Who incited David to count the fighting men of Israel?

    God did ( 2 Samuel 24: 1)

    Satan did ( I Chronicles 2 1:1)

In that count how many fighting men were found in Israel?

    Eight hundred thousand ( 2 Samuel 24:9)

One million, one hundred thousand ( I Chronicles 21:5)

How many fighting men were found in Judah?

    Five hundred thousand ( 2 Samuel 24:9)

Four hundred and seventy thousand ( I Chronicles 21:5)

God sent his prophet to threaten David with how many years of famine?

    Seven ( 2 Samuel 24:13)

    Three ( I Chronicles 21:12)

How old was Ahaziah when he began to rule over Jerusalem?

    Twenty-two ( 2 Kings 8:26)

    Forty-two ( 2 Chronicles 22:2)

How old was Jehoiachin when he became king of Jerusalem?

    Eighteen ( 2 Kings 24:8)

    Eight ( 2 Chronicles 36:9)

How long did he rule over Jerusalem?

    Three months ( 2 Kings 24:8)

Three months and ten days ( 2 Chronicles 36:9)

The chief of the mighty men of David lifted up his spear and killed how many men at one time?

    Eight hundred ( 2 Samuel 23:8)

    Three hundred ( I Chronicles 11: 11)

When did David bring the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem? Before defeating the Philistines or after?

    After ( 2 Samuel 5 and 6)

    Before ( I Chronicles 13 and 14)

How many pairs of clean animals did God tell Noah to take into the Ark?

    Two ( Genesis 6:19, 20)

Seven ( Genesis 7:2). But despite this last instruction only two pairs went into the ark ( Genesis 7:8-9)

When David defeated the King of Zobah, how many horsemen did he capture?

One thousand and seven hundred ( 2 Samuel 8:4)

    Seven thousand ( I Chronicles 18:4)

How many overseers did Solomon appoint for the work of building the temple?

Three thousand six hundred ( 2 Chronicles 2:2)

Prophecy and what we have been taught, just my thoughts.

Studying prophecy, or any subject, scripture, and the Holy Spirit is the interpreter, we are not. Putting trust in man's interpretations without studying with a clear mind, with prayer, and led by the Holy Spirit of truth could be disastrous. If the Holy Spirit does not show us the answer, we may need to grow in other areas of our walk first. Praise God for what we have been shown.

Many teachings on end times reflect Babel, (confusion, a confused mixture of sounds, unintelligible voices, or languages, bewilderment, a confused and deceived assembly), making merchandise of people. Remember "take heed that no man deceive you".

If we have dedicated our belief in the teachings out there before we go to the Bible for the facts, the only things we will see will line up with the conclusion we have already come to, we deceive ourselves. Our ears to the Holy Spirit are closed. Maybe not willingly, we are blinded from the truth by the pride of our knowledge. Imaginations of the heart is a foothold of evil, we inherited from the first Adam and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

A simple question that may show how things we have been taught since Sunday school as a kid may have created a scotoma (blind spot) in our minds. Many probably know this answer but may it open some eyes and ears to other things we may be wrong about and not know we are wrong.

How many of each type of animal went into the Ark? If you first said two each, ( Genesis 7:2-3)

Clean beast by 7, male and female =14, unclean beast by 2, male and female=4, fouls by 7, male and female=14. Man by 4, male and female =8. All two-by-two male and female not two of each. I know this may be meaningless, but what other things much more important have we accepted, that we have been taught as truth, that is not?

If we have been deceived, are we responsible?

May we walk in the Holy Spirit of truth

2 Peter 2:5, declares Noah to be a "preacher of righteousness". However, we're not told how he communicated God's Message to the people, whether during the building of the Ark ( Hebrews 11:7) or at other times. His soul would have been vexed by the wickedness around him, as Lot's was with the Sodomites ( 2 Peter 2:7,8).

Genesis 5:32 shows Noah's age as 500 years old & then when he was 600 years old ( Genesis 7:6), the flood waters came upon the Earth. And somewhere between that time ( Genesis 6:3) God declared that man's days "shall be a hundred & twenty years". I guess that's how the understanding arose about God's time limit for man to take stock of his remaining days.
  • Brian. R on Genesis 1:1 - 3 years ago
    Chris,

You mentioned the flood. According to the dates of generations listed below, the flood was about 4,369 years ago. Does this list agree with your thinking, creation...in the ball park?

    Jared became the father of Enoch at 162. Genesis 5:18 460 + 162 = 622

    Enoch became the father of Methuselah at 65. Genesis 5:21 622 + 65 = 687

    Methuselah became the father of Lamech at 187. Genesis 5:25 687 + 187 = 874

    Lamech became the father of Noah at 182. Genesis 5:28 874 + 182 = 1056

    The Flood started when Noah was 600. Genesis 7:6 1056 + 600 = 1656

Calculated BC date for creation: 4004

Calculated AM date for the Flood: -1656

Calculated BC date for the Flood: 2348

    Current Year (minus one): +2021

Number of years since beginning of Flood: 4369

    God bless

It was an act of faith on noahs part ,if noah made the ark exactly to Gods specifications ,he would have noticed that he wouldnt be able to close the door from the inside for whatever reason ,for him not to be worried about this ,for him not to question Gods design of the ark ,shows an enormous amount of faith in God . We need to show our faith in God by accepting the life circumstances that He has put us in and not worrying too much about where He puts us ,trust in His love and care for us ,God thinks of EVERYTHING .

    Genesis 7

    13 In the selfsame day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah's wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark;

14 They, and every beast after his kind, and all the cattle after their kind, and every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind, and every fowl after his kind, every bird of every sort.

15 And they went in unto Noah into the ark, two and two of all flesh, wherein is the breath of life.

16 And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the LORD SHUT HIM IN.

Comment: the door was so massive. God was the only one who could shut it from the outside.

Mishael comment: The verses show Noah's age during Bible events. I didn't show them, but Noah made sacrifices upon an altar to God; worshipping God in a time of gross sin. He was human and subject to the aging process.

I believe there is a prophetic reason why Enoch and Elijah were taken to heaven without seeing physical death. And... we will be witnesses of that reason.

    Genesis 6:8

But Noah found GRACE in the eyes of the LORD.

    Genesis 6:22

Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.

    Genesis 7:6

And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth.

    Genesis 8:13

And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry.

    Genesis 9:28

And Noah lived after the flood three hundred and fifty years.

    Genesis 9:29

And all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died.

Mishael: 'Grace', means Noah had the unmerited favor of God. He didn't earn it.

There is nowhere in the Bible that states Noah had triplets. There is Scripture to prove what Chris stated is correct:

" Genesis 7:6 "And Noah was six hundred years old when the floodwaters was opon the earth."

Genesis 11:10 "Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood:".

A little bit of subtraction tells us that therefore Shem was born when Noah was in his 502nd year."

Knowing Noah began to beget sons in His 500th year. Japheth being the oldest son of Noah, born in/close to Noahs 500th year, then Shem in His 502nd year, and the birth of Ham, youngest, can not be traced. Just as Chris stated.

    God Bless.
  • Rod - In Reply on Ephesians 2 - 3 years ago
When I read my KJV bible it tells me to believe as a child, and so I do believe, in Rev 22:18-19 it tells me not to add nor subtract from the words written in this book, and I don't. When you say "It is more logical to believe there were other people for them to marry." you ignore the fact of; who then created them, or where were they from, did they also sin like Adam and Eve or were they sinless, and so many more unanswered questions. After they disobeyed God and eat of the fruit of the tree, and sinned in the garden, scripture tells us in Genesis 3:20 "And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living." then, as per your logic, scripture must be wrong. Then I must agree with Paul when he says "God forbid". Noah and his family would have had a similar situation, only with four families instead of one as Genesis 7:6-13 Noah was six hundred years old at the time of the flood, Also Lot in Genesis 19:30-38

I've had similar conversations with some of my friends over the years, we need to understand that, all these events happened prior to the law being given to Moses, and for these events happening as scripture says it does, and as per God's plan, I believe. I do hope this helps.

1 Corinthians 1:25 "Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men."

I believe that since Christ's death & resurrection, everyone who hears the Gospel of Salvation, has a choice to make. And this choice is incumbent on the Holy Spirit's Work in the unbeliever's heart to prepare him & draw him to the Cross.

2 Corinthians 6:2, "For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation." The choice for all people is NOW & not at a later date when it could be too late or even after death, when there is no further opportunity to do so.
