Verse 1: God again stated his purpose that the earth be filled with humans. God values human life.
  • Cheryl Dawn on Genesis 9 - 7 years ago
Ham should have not told his brothers about his fathers nakedness, but just covered him and kept it to himself. He dishonored his father in his words and actions to God I guess and so was dishonored. It is always good not to gossip. Honoring our parents is important. Not just fathers, but mothers also.
  • Irene123 on Genesis 9 - 7 years ago
    V. 19 -" ..... and of them ('them' referring to Noah's sons, not Noah) was the whole earth overspread". God doesn't mention Noah having any more children. Nor are we to 'speculate' on whether he did or not.
  • Irene123 on Genesis 9 - 7 years ago
I do not understand v. 22 - nor do I have any tho'ts on it. But - I do know you cannot later read Lev. 20:11 and 'see' that this incest is the answer. One scripture has nothing to do with the other; there is no corroborating scripture to connect the two.
  • Sakana on Genesis 9 - 7 years ago
Leviticus 20:11 will make it very clear what Ham did and why Noah cursed the offspring. Shem and Japheth covered up their mother. "And the man that lieth with his father's wife hath uncovered his father's nakedness" (The very idea that a son simply seeing his father naked would be that big a deal as to curse a grandson is ridiculous.)

There was no wine in the Ark. According to verse 20 Noah became a husbandman (husbandman means one who cultivates the land ,a farmer). And planted a vineyard verse 21 said he drank of the wine and was drunk,in the nude. Noah cursed only one son the youngest Ham, because when Noah woke up,he realized what Ham did to him, verse 24.its a shame
  • Dennis on Genesis 9 - 7 years ago
verse 20 and 21 tells where he got the wine probably didn't get drunk immediately might have been a year or so just goes to show us what that stuff does to us even the greatest can be brought down by it the bible tells us to stay away from it
  • Irene123 on Genesis 9 - 7 years ago
To Netlace - You have done the same thing you have said I did. Nothing in Gen. says the 'wine' from the ark. It says nothing about 'wine' - fermented or not and nothing about grapes. How do you know there was wine on the ark? This is just an observation; no judging; please believe that.
  • Netlace on Genesis 9 - 7 years ago
RNM I agree 100 with you, would love to here more of your idea of the earth. Most know it is not a spinning marble chasing the sun, headed for hurcules...... Or I sure hope they do.... Bible proves it is stable.
  • Netlace on Genesis 9 - 7 years ago
The changing of grape juice to wine would occur quickly after the flood vs before because of the fall of the canopy. Whether the wine was leftover from before the flood or after, the new conditions of earth was new to Noah. I don't believe the age of his grandson is disclosed so time unknown. But prior to the flood wine kept a long time as unfermented. Noah walked with God, this was unintentional.
  • Netlace on Genesis 9 - 7 years ago
Irene123 ,, The reason for Noah becoming "drunk" is the wine had fermented because of the year in the ark. Someone who is not used to strong drink would easily become intoxicated. I am only aware of one occasion. He did not turn to drunken-ness. Please do not add such things, others may believe it to be truth...
  • Irene123 on Genesis 9 - 7 years ago
To Charity eze - You need to KNOW - God is in CONTROL of everything - even our words. Noah was God's man - even though he turned to drunkenness after the flood; God still honored him. No one knows what Ham did, but- it was awful. God honored Noah's curse, and ONLY God had power to put it into effect. We have no power. Why Canaan? I have no answer for that. THAT - is God's business, not mine.

To Susan on Genesis ch. 9 -- I agree with you on that .................
  • Susan on Genesis 9 - 8 years ago
Romans 10:17. All sin and fall short of the Glory of God. Noah was a good man but sinned by getting drunk. His son Ham took advantage of his fathers drunkeness and sinned His other sons knew this was wrong and covered their father, being careful to not even get a glimpse. All sin but all faithful can be forgiven John 3:16

V.9 Noah drank wine and was drunk, it is not figuratively speaking! V.24 Noah awoke from his wine. There is no context in these 2 v. of devine ecstacy or cultivating truth.
  • Seeker on Genesis 9 - 8 years ago
Noah's drunkenness describes figuratively a state of divine ecstacy, since his planting of a vineyard implies his cultivation of Truth and Holiness.
  • JP on Genesis 9 - 9 years ago
Hey there my friend. It was Noah, not God, who cursed Canaan. Many thanks to you and have a nice day! God bless
  • Charity eze on Genesis 9 - 9 years ago
Why God cursed the son of Ham Canaan and not Ham him self. I need to know why. If we do something wrong , the course goes to the innocent children? What of the person has no child to who will the punishment go? Pls, I would like to know
  • Lee on Genesis 9 - 9 years ago
James. Any man can fall into sin, as none is perfect. Only God is perfect.
  • James on Genesis 9:21 - 9 years ago
How Can a Prophet get drunk? Isnt he supposed to be perfect and clean and without sin??
  • Arlenice Carbajal on Genesis 9 - 9 years ago
It is a new beginning where they now begin to add animal meat and God tells the people which animals they may eat and which ones they may not interesting because the animals that God says that w r may not eat, are animals that eat the filth of the water and Earth. The animals that God calls 'clean' , eat grass and similar kinds of clean foods that we can also eat. God is good.

I love the true meaning of what the Rainbow stands for. It has nothing to do with Gay people, after all...God created it and he didn't create Gay people, Satan did that. I'm taking back what the devil has stolen!!!!

The prophetic fulfilment of this scripture was when the Gentiles became part of the Church which is of Christ the root of Shem."Japheth shall dwell in the tents of Shem". This is true when Gentiles become Christian, they recieve the blessings of enlargement. May you blessed and the God of Shem gives ample room as you dwell in the tents of Shem!

KS REDDY Genesis 9:4 4 But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it. We can still eat meat but, animals still containing blood in it may not be consumed therefore it signifies life.

This chapter is very prolific, profound and significant in the life of this generation for us and our children to be very careful in the way and manner we treat and speak to our parents and those God has placed over us and also our recalcitrant behaviour towards others. Noah placed a Generational Curse on Ham the father of Caanan, which affected Esau for disobeying the parents and went married a caananite wife and subsequently robbed him of first son 's inheritance engineered by her mother.

GEN 9-4-30...We can go back and forth, round and round about some of these topics but where does it get us, this is where that measure of faith should lead us to accept that their is an answer to these questions but we may not have the answer until a later time, 2 Tim 2:23...The Word of God always has the right solution to every situation. PRAISE OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN AND OUR HOLY MESSIAH YESHUA. AMEN!!
