    I think anything is possible with God. Only He has the power to change one individual or person, and no one else is.
  • Charles on Hebrews 11 - 12 years ago
    This hope of which Hebrews talks about is the promise made by the Father that if we do His will, we already have a place with Him. That is a sure thing. That is the substance. If we exercise faith, that substance is guaranteed. Whereas we can say I hope it doesn't rain, but nothing is guaranteed. Therefore it is not hope but a wishful thinking that may or may not come to pass. However, the promise made by God is a sure thing conditioned on our trust in Him.

    Salvation depends on Faith in Christ alone. So, knowing I can trust Him to save my soul from hell and destruction. While I walk this dark world, my soul knows that I can have Faith in Jesus Christ, even when my sight tells me to doubt. Amen and Amen.

    By faith, everything is possible. No matter how great the situation is, God is there to lift us up, only if we have faith in him.

    @Brother,
    On verse 18,
    1. I agree with what Timothy had to say in response to Brother on his marriage situation, but there is more Timothy should be doing beside praying;
    2. It is difficult giving relationship advice without being able to sit down and talk with both parties involved;
    3. God always has solutions to every situation, but they are usually not so simple because of our sinful nature and after we have made decisions without proper biblical counseling with God and the man of God with the holy scriptures at the foundation of our decisions;
    4. Are you and your wife both saved?
    5. Do you both attend and participate in a good bible believing church?
    6. Are you doing those things that God commands us to do that put us in a right relationship and good standing with him?
    7. Although our mates have a large influence on our lives and how we are able to serve God, but our mates should not have that much influence on us that it holds us back from our spiritual growth and fellowship with God ( 1 Corinthians 7 and Ephesians 5:21-33);
    8. We as Christians should never allow anyone to have such a strong hold on us to keep us from doing right and being diligent in seeking him. ( 1 Corinthians 7:29 and Hebrews 11:6);
    9. The better our relationship, fellowship, and obedience to God's holy word the better position we place ourselves in having God answering our prayers and working in our favor;
    10. We have a much better opportunity in winning others to our side (God’s side) when we love God verbally, but also when we especially love God with our actions;
    11. People always tend to watch our actions over our speech ( James 1:22-25);
    12. I do not know what kind of a relationship Peter had with his wife, but it apparently did not stop him from doing what God wanted him to do!

    The only way we can please GOD is by faith. GOD has given us all a measure of faith.
  • Ej on Hebrews 11:1 - 13 years ago
    "Hoped". Why not "hope". Things we "Hope" for are in a future sense. Example: I hope it does not rain, but it did rain. Or I hoped it would not rain and it did not. Past tense or future tense. Hoped versus Hope, "Hoped"; states it is already done. That is why "Faith is the substance of things Hoped for, The Evidence of things not seen". Our Salvation is complete in Christ Jesus. The evidence is in our Faith that God The Father has gifted us with. Faith is given by God, to us. We have not seen the completion of our Salvation, yet in Christ Jesus it is complete.

    @Brad Holland,
    To study the differences between the King James Version 1611 (authorized version) and the other versions is something you should do with diligence ( Hebrews 11:6; 2 Timothy 2:15) and I believe you will conclude that the King James Version 1611 (authorized version) is the only inspired word of God as I have. As for the vulgate text it is from the Alexandria manuscripts (Egypt) Latin based that the catholic church uses for their version translated by origen and others that is proven to be corrupt by most honest and true bible translators. The King James Version 1611 (authorized version) is translated from the manuscripts of Antioch ( Acts 11:26) (Textus Receptus) where you will find that most honest and true translators conclude to be correct. As for the original text there are no original texts and when someone can produce them I might start altering my thinking on this subject. God is never to concern about the originals, see what god does with originals and how he preserves his word ( Exodus 32:19, Exodus 34:1; Psalms 12:6,7; Matthew 24:35; Peter 1:19) more original writings ( Jeremiah 30:1, Jeremiah 36:27, 28, 32). God has preserved his word in the King James Version 1611 (authorized version). When a person comes to conclusion that all versions are of God they have not studied the scriptures with diligence. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways ( James 1:8). There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end there of is the ways of death ( Proverbs 14:12; 2 Timothy 2:15).

    Faith is also accepting what God says is, then is. What He says was, then was. What is going to be will be. What he says we are, then we are. What He says we have, then we have. What He says we can do, then we can.

  • André on Job 1 - 13 years ago
    @Peter,
    The word of God is not against what you are saying. Only that it gives a better hope for those who trust God. And denying God is a choice one will only be responsible for… there is no eternal torture, that is simply figurative… The loving God as He is cannot spend eternity torturing human beings, no, there is not such a story in God’s plan. Only that, the word of God is meant for those who believe, NOT for those who do not believe… likewise people whom God dealt with, or still deal with have a relationship of their own with God, … a relationship, you and I may not clearly perceive. Sure we can judge from outside, but not without mistakes…’’For they that say such things declare PLAINLY that they seek a country’’. Hebrews 11:14… God bless you.
  • André on Job 1 - 13 years ago
    @Peter,
    Those are sense based reasoning… and God is very far beyond all that we desire or simply think. Of course Job came out victorious and stronger than ever before. If God did not help him, Job would have failed… but God did, after Job exerted his utmost.
    Based on what you say, the spirit of competition itself should be demise. Because there is no crowning without striving. And striving implies sufferings and sacrifices of all sorts, afterward come the rewards, and Job went through all such.
    Now those who died, if they died in righteousness, the Bible says, God has prepared them a city, which is far beyond this life’s senseless stuffs. And those who look to that city don’t think worldly things, they think godly ones, and a ready even to die at any time, to preserve their rewards ( Hebrews 11:14-16, 35-40). If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable ( 1 Corinthians 15:19).
    God bless you.
  • Cedrick on Hebrews 11:6 - 13 years ago
    This simply means by believing you own and you receive on a day and time known by God. Remember your plans are not God's plans with you, you should not ask anything to please you, but God ( James 4:3). Your child believes that he/she will receive if he/she asks parents. God is your parent. BELIEVE, OWN AND RECEIVE. God bless you.

    There are 3 resurrections. The first one is the reign of 1000 years as indicated ( Revelation 20:3) and a better resurrection ( Hebrews 11:35). The second is the last 100 years when Satan will be loosed for a while ( Revelation 20:7). The third is the lake of fire where enemies of the Creator will be thrown in and burnt up to nothing. Out of the 759 commandments/biblical laws, the particular ones that apply to us - I take it, that it is the amount of commandments that you do to "overcome the world" that will get you into your own order, be it the first or the second.

    I love Hebrews such a great book on faith. Faith comes by just believing just what the Lord tells us to do . Take him at his word.Once we read it and study the word of God.It says be a doer not just a hearer of his word. James1:22
    That is if we expect to go back with him when he returns.Happy Reading!
  • Jana on Hebrews 11 - 13 years ago
    I love this chapter. What I have learned is reading the Word of God is easy, but, be obedient is something else totally different. Faith without works is dead. Having the Holy Spirit keep me in perfect peace while trials and tribulations are trying to destory me shows me God IS a God of His Word. I've learned how to depend on Jesus because HE will never leave nor forsake me. I love HIM!
  • Timothy Wayne George on Hebrews 11 - 13 years ago
    All of these in the Hall of Faith obtained a good report through faith, but they did not receive the promise. They were looking for a city,that hath foundations, whose builder, and maker is God.
    We too are pilgrims, and strangers in this world, and we like them are looking for a city. The new Jerusalem, that will come as promised by our Lord. Jesus said let not your heart be troubled, for you believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions. I go to prepare a place for you, so that where I am, there ye may be also. Thank God that Jesus went to the cross, and paid our sin debt. He is risen, and now is seated at the right hand of the Father. He is coming back to take us to live with Him in heaven. We will all receive the promise of God, and be made perfect with all those old testament saints who walked by faith. Yes faith is our victory over this world. The scripture says that the just will live by faith, and not sight. We too will have our names mentioned in the Hall of Faith, praise God for all the glory, and the honor belongs to Him.

    David My friend; Hebrews 11:3 tells us that, through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, So that the things which are seen were not made by the things which do appear. And Romans 1:20 says For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen by the things which are made,even his eternal power and Godhead. So that tells us that the things we see naturally existed spiritually first. that's How they got here physically Even Jesus himself before he was manifest in the flesh! Existed in the spirit of his eternal Godhead and Power.

    I am trying to relate the verse in Herbrews 11:1 to another text in the bible that states, "by grace are ye saved, through faith, and not of yourselves". It is God that can only save us and it is his "gift". Where does faith come in? Can we say by grace are ye saved through the substance of things hoped for. If we are dead in trespasses and sins we can bring nothing forward of ourselves to save ourselves. The dry bones in that arose and became an army became alive because of one reason: GOD. Faith then must also be a gift that God must give as well as Grace. This would then make Faith the substance of things hoped for (as much as the Lord will give us. Paul says I am what I am by the grace of God.
  • Tosin on Hebrews 11 - 13 years ago
    To please God, we need to have faith of God and put it to use. By putting faith to use we become translated to God's way of doing things. Thus, we possess by our faith put to does as God does.

    All things are possible if you hve faith and as Jesus said, all you need is faith the size of a mustard seed!
  • Timothy Wayne George on Hebrews 11 - 14 years ago
    Hebrews 11 is what I call the Hall of Faith chapter. We must walk by faith, and not by sight. Praise God that all those who walk by faith have the Holy Spirit as their guide. Faith comes by hearing the Word of God, and we too will be perfected with those old testament saints when Jesus Christ returns for his Church. The bible tells us that Jesus is the Arthur and finisher of our faith. So we must run this race with patience looking unto Jesus who is right now at the right hand of the Father in heaven interceding for us.
    One day we too will be included in the Hall of Faith. May we receive that crown of righteousness which God will give to all those who will love his appearing.
