I have a question pertaining to HEBREWS chapter 1 verse 11. The verse says*They shall perish, but thou remainest, and they all shall wax old as doth a garment? can you explain the meaning of this to me please?

To understand Psalm 2:12, we have to take in the other verses as well. Starting from verse 6, the Psalmist speaks, under the inspiration of the Spirit, about a coming King to set up His Kingdom in Zion (Hill of Jerusalem). God refers to him as a His Son, & One Who is begotten (the Hebrews writer quotes this in Hebrews 1:5 when writing about the superiority of Jesus over the angels).

And to this Son, all of Earth will be His possession (in that day) & so the solemn instruction & warning to the "kings & rulers of the Earth" (v 10), to be wise & not foolish. The wise one will "kiss the Son" (v 12): not a literal kiss of affection, but as in Eastern cultures, one of homage/obeisance to one who is greater than them (it may be a bowing down, or a kiss on the hand or garment). So when the Son (Jesus) is acknowledged & worshipped, the one doing so will not experience His Anger or rejection as those who show Him disdain. But it is one thing to acknowledge the coming King, but another to put one's trust & love upon Him. There will be a time in the future, when Jesus will not only be acknowledged as the Messiah & King by all, but will also receive the love & trust that His rightfully His from those who are witnesses of this, turning their unbelief & rejection into belief, trust & deep love for the One Who comes in the Name of LORD. Psalm 118:26 and Mark 11:9,10 show the first cry of joy at Christ's coming.

So, the Psalm 2 is a prophetical Psalm - maybe unknown to the writer, but now revealed to us in Jesus.

The clearest Scripture is in Psalm 33:6-9. Other Scriptures: Hebrews 1:2, 11:3, may help.

In reference to "why do Churches baptize in the Name of the Trinity?" They use Matthew 28:19 as their directive for doing so. Though I suppose, given the use of the Name of Jesus only for baptising (as according to the portions you have cited), then this too would be appropriate because of apostolic/early Church precedent.

The Letter to the Hebrews is essentially the author's goal to demonstrate the superiority of Jesus Christ & therefore, of Christianity, to the prophets (1:1-3), to the angels (1:4-2:18) and to Moses (3:1-6). The rest of the letter gives Christ's superiority by His Priesthood (5:1-10:39) and by His Own Power (11:1-13:19).

But looking at Hebrews 1:4: Jesus status as the Son of God was a far greater status to that of angels. To no angel did God say, "Thou art My Son, this day have I begotten Thee". And when the First begotten came into the world, God said, "And let all the angels of God worship Him". This the Hebrews writer took from Psalm 97:7 and Deuteronomy 32:43, from the Septuagint version, though not in the Hebrew/KJV. So the Name of Jesus, as also His Divine Birth, made Him far greater than that of angels, which some might have proposed Him to be ranked with. And this Jesus came in "the brightness of God's Glory & the express Image of His Person, after He Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right Hand of the Majesty on High" ( Heb 1:3). I don't see from these Scriptures, or anywhere else, that Jesus ever took on the Person of the Father, rather at present He is seated beside Him in Heaven. Are you thinking of a Scripture when suggesting "Jesus inherits his name from his father which was Kept Secret in the Old Testament but revealed in the New Testament"?

You cannot know the Father except the Son reveal him,

Jesus said I am the way the truth and the life, no man cometh unto the father but by me, if you had known me you should have known my father also from henceforth you know him and have seen him, Philip said Lord show us the father and it sufficeth us, Jesus said have I been so long time with you and yet thou does not know me Philip he that has seen me has seen the father. How saith show us the father.

    Hello Bendito,

Seeing your question I just felt to give a reply. As of coarse you probably have seen there are some people who would say "Jesus is God" and some who are against that and only want Him to be the "Son of God". My feeling on this would be maybe right in between. Probably not heard of much. I believe Jesus Christ was more than just a man on earth. Believing He existed with God the Father before the stars and moon were created. Being our eternal Lord and Salvation sent to us by our Perfect Father. I believe the Father and the Son are One but Jesus Christ and the Father are not the same. That may be confusing but just how I perceive them. If I am wrong I will find out one day. I love them both the same. With all my heart.

    God Bless you brother.

So, as you believe, that in Jesus is found the Godhead (Father, Son & Holy Spirit), which in a sense is true, since the Godhead is just that - without one the others aren't complete in Unity. But this now raises two other problems:

    a. Mark 14:36: "And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt." If Jesus is now God on Earth without a God in Heaven, then to Whom is Jesus crying out to? And for what reason? Surely, it can't be a cry to Himself as God the Father, since that becomes nonsense & also that Heaven is now devoid of the Divine.

    b. 1 Peter 3:22; Hebrews 1:3, 8:1, 12:2; Romans 8:34, etc. All these Scriptures show us that Jesus is now seated at the Father's right Hand & Jesus Himself said, "I go to the Father" ( John 16:16). How should I understand such declarations if the Father only exists now in the Person of Jesus? Is Jesus going to His Father that is already Himself? Such interpretations are mind-boggling that even go past the mystery of the Trinity. I'm sorry, but what you expect me to believe goes into the realm of extra-biblical claims & would need some careful explanation. May the Lord lead us into His Truth.

Your quote of scripture in context ( Psalm 65:1-3)

"Praise waiteth for thee, O God, in Sion: and unto thee shall the vow be performed.

O thou that hearest prayer, unto thee shall all flesh come.

Iniquities prevail against me: as for our transgressions, thou shalt purge them away."

Let us keep in mind "thou shalt purge them away"

I now refer to Hebrews 1:3 which speaks of the Son's accomplishment:

    Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

The words "when he had by himself purged our sins" puts Jesus Christ in the place of the 'Elohiym of Psalm 65.

The pharisees attempted to reason this out in Luke 5:21:

"And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?"

Thank you once again Hugo for your comments & observations. I'm sad that my comment on Jesus talking with the Father & the Trinitarian aspects troubled you, but I shall explain. Before Jesus' incarnation (when He was sent to Earth as a Man), Jesus is seen as God's Word ( John 1:1-14): only One God with His Word & His Spirit, as shown to us. That Word out of God accomplished many tasks, including in creation, the words given to the prophets, etc. Remember, at this point in time, there is only One God seen in His Fullness: His Word & Spirit.

At the time appointed, God sent forth His Word to His people, Israel ( Hebrews 1:1,2) & He was called the Son of God. But Jesus came not only to bring God's Message (as a Prophet of God would), but this Man Jesus came out of God to become like us in the flesh for the purposes of being the Perfect Sacrifice for mankind's redemption. What was limiting & failing before by using animal sacrifices was now acceptable to God in providing us His Lamb. As you know, Jesus in His humanity, suffered hunger, loneliness, pain, etc. as we do & even "tempted on all points as we are", but without sin, He became the Sacrifice that worked for us. He also prayed (talked) to the Father & did so very often, as you know.

There is a big difference between Jesus and the Lord Jesus Christ. Saying Jesus is not the Word of God is 100% correct. Jesus is the name of a human body. Jesus Christ refers to the Divine which became manifested in such a way that we can interact with It just like you interact with your wife or children. This manifested Divinity is also called the Word.

    Hebrews 1 v 1 , 2

God spoke his word by the prophets

In the last days God spoke through his Son

Here we can see that Jesus is not the word of God himself .

But the Lord God used the prophets and His Son to speak His word .

This chapter completely states that Jesus is His Son and that The LORD GOD also known as the father of all things , is creator and in full control .

Good day my brothers and sisters.

    Rob,

You seem to not want to believe that Christ existed before he was born in Bethlehem. Which is all through the Bible. He is the Son of God. With many other names too. Can you explain some of these verses with your interpretations?

Ephesians 3:9 - And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:

    Colossians 1:13-20

    Hebrews 1:1-2- God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

John 3:12- If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? (Jesus knowing about things of Heaven, if His Spirit had not been there before?)

John 6:38-39- For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of Him that sent me. And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.

Revelations 19:13- And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.

In Revelations God says he is the Alpha and Omega. Also Jesus Christ says He is the Alpha and Omega.

There's more also. If you can't believe things in the Holy Scriptures. Ok, I don't look down on anyone. But please don't say we're making these things up or have a false view. It's not that hard to see. Especially with the Holy Ghost.

God Bless everyone. Have a wonderful day!

Genesis 1:2, 3: "And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light."

In these verses, we already see the Triune God at work. 1. We have God the Creator & Sustainer of all things. 2. We also see His Spirit "moving upon the face of the waters": that part of the Godhead that went out to do a work (we are not told). 3. Then we have God speak for the creation of light: "And God said..". This is His Word that is part of Who God is. Thus we see God, as He has revealed Himself to us, as a Triune God, and if any part of that divinity was missing, He would cease to be God.

You are a trinity: a body, a soul & a spirit. If one part of your trinity was missing, you would either cease to be human, or maybe a sub-human.

God chose to send out His Word to His people Israel: "God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high" ( Hebrews 1:1-3).

Did you catch it? God sent out His Word to Israel, then sent out His Word to us through His Son (Who also shared in His Glory, in His Image & involved in the creative Work (also see Colossians 1:15-17)). This Word was made flesh for our sakes, He gave us God's Message & then laid down His Life for us. This is God's Word declared to you - if you choose to believe what you do, then you have to deny the Truth of His Word & make your appeal to some other source.

Fred, may the Holy Spirit grace us with his understanding, when the (children of the resurrection) physical body dies our spirit (now one with the Spirit of God through the work of Christ) in the twinkle of an eye we (corruptible) shall put on Christ (incorruption), and this mortal (us) shall put on Christ (immortality). I Timothy 6:16 Who (Christ) only hath immortality, dwelling in the light (God)...... Luke 20:35-36 But they (children of the resurrection) which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that (Spirit) world, and the resurrection from the dead....(vs) 36 Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection. Psalms 103:20 Bless the Lord, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word. Psalms 104:4 Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire. Hebrews 1:14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation? Psalms 149:6-9 Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two edge sword in their hand; (vs) 7 To execute vengeance upon the heathen (nations), and punishments upon the people; (vs) 9 To execute upon them the judgement written, this honour have all his saints.... Matthew 13:33 And the kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven (Spirit of God) which a woman ( Galatians 4:26 new, spiritual Jerusalem the mother of us all) took and hid in three measures of meal (us, the meat offering to God), till the whole (lump, all mankind) was leavened (by the Spirit of God).
