Unless one keeps the Sabbath, the same may not be keeping the commandments. And if one is not able to keep the commandments then the Law requires death.
For this reason Jesus came to fulfill the commandments and enter into His rest. Those that are born again by Faith in His works may also enter into the Holy of Holies and be seated in His Mercy Seat that covers the Law.
We can rest in His commandments, all of them, in love and in faith as God looks upon His reconciled Lamb's account that we by His Justification can live in. Thus the born again believer can have eternal life in comfort like Lazarus the poor man.
And we can gather with brethren of the like, precious faith whenever we can, by His grace and worship freely in Spirit and Truth.
WHY DO PEOPLE FOLLOW SUNDAY RATHER THAN THE 7TH DAY?
Because they have been indoctrinated into the various religions and refuse the 10 Commandments.
They use the day Christ rose as the reason to change the day even though no instructions were left for us to follow in that manner.
They use the Apostles meeting on the first day of the week to authorize the change (even though Paul continually taught in the Synagogues ON THE SABBATH well after Christ had risen).
Because these days it is easier to follow Sunday and not the 7th day.
The Apostle Paul quoted this passage in 1 Corinthians 15:27. Paul quoted it in much the same way that the writer of Hebrews did in Hebrews 2:5-9, showing that this promise of dominion is now only incompletely fulfilled among men. Yet it will be ultimately fulfilled in Jesus, the ultimate Man, and will be one day also completely fulfilled in His resurrected followers. In light of all this, it is a great tragedy when a man is captured and held in bondage by the things of this world. We were born to have dominion over such material things, instead of being in bondage to them. O LORD, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth: When David thought about how vast a dominion God had given to man, it made him praise God all over again. That this humble creature - humble in light of the majesty of the universe, humble in light of its present standing under angelic beings - should be given such authority is a demonstration of both the excellence and the goodness of God.
For if, by the trespass of the one, death reigned through the one; much more shall they that receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one, (even) Jesus Christ. Adam's sin has allowed death to "reign" over the human race. We face physical and spiritual death because of sin. We may say that at the present time death is king of the hill ( Hebrews 2:15) for all who are not Christians. Death ceases to be king for those who become Christians because the saved "reign in life through Jesus Christ." Those who are in Christ are able to overcome the spiritual consequences of sin, and they overcome physical death in the sense that they will be raised to inherit eternal life. Death is no longer an unbeatable enemy. It may win a battle when it claims our life, but it will not defeat the Christian in the war for the soul. For information on the word "trespasses" (paraptoma), see the commentary on verse16. Concerning the word reign (basileuo), this same term is used of an earthly ruler in Matthew 2:22, sin ( Romans 6:12), and Jesus Himself ( 1 Corinthians 15:25). It is also found in verse21. Here, it is used twice, and its dual use shows that the reign of death can be defeated if we accept the reign offered by Christ. Describing God's grace as "abundant" (perisseia) caused Paul to use a term found only here, 2 Corinthians 8:2; 2 Corinthians 10:15; James 1:21. In each of these places it refers "to something above or beyond the normal. It suggests 'the element of excess and fullness that overflows the set bounds. In this process of overflowing, the existing standards and rules are transcended and what was comparable becomes incomparable'" (CBL, GED, 5:160). We have access to God's grace right now because "receiving" is a present tense verb. Notice too that our ability to overcome the consequences of sin is only possible "through" (ASV) or "by" (KJV) Christ. This is absolutely consistent with other verses like John 14:6.
A foundational aspect which I find myself defending (as the minority position) is the debate between Law vs. Grace as well as Works vs. Grace.
I find myself in the position of believing that we are in need of the Law. We are also in need of Works. And most of all, we are in need of the Grace given to us through faith in Jesus Christ.
I will give my opinion based upon your alphabetic structure
a) I believe that we are ALL "God's "elect,"
Israel is "elect" for all the reasons you mention.
Christians are "elect" because Scripture says so ( Colossians 3:12, 1 Thessalonians 1:4).
b) I agree, and will add that God NEVER intended or believed Israel could fulfill the Law. The Law was given to Israel (and all who cared to follow) for proper ceremonial worship, and for guidance, and for correction.
c) I agree and will add that Jesus not only fulfilled the Law perfectly as a Jew, but also as a man.
d) While I can (partially) agree with you that Christ came to fulfill the Law (of ordinances, i.e. blood sacrifice, not the entire Law), I believe that the MAIN REASON Jesus was promised by God to all of mankind can be found all the way back in Genesis 3:15. At that particular point in time, Adam and Eve were the only two people on the planet to have partaken in sin.
God knew that Israel would backslide. That is why the Savior was promised right from the beginning of the fall of man, thousands of years before the nation of Israel ever existed.
The promise of Genesis 3:15, however, has to do with the DEATH of Jesus, and the result of His crucifixion can be found in Hebrews 2:14.
"Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;"
That is the PRIMARY reason Jesus was promised, and is the (partial) fulfillment of that promise of Genesis 3:15; partial because Satan is not dead yet.
I read verses such as 2 Peter 3:17 which directly states
"Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things BEFORE, BEWARE lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, FALL from your own stedfastness."
And, to use your verse pointed out; "Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling" ( Philippians 2:12): Why would Paul say this to his followers if he did not mean it?
So then; "Let us "Study to show ourselves approved unto God ( 2 Timothy 2:15) and "LABOUR therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief" ( Hebrews 4:11).
The clothes that we wear in heaven can be seen from Revelation 19:8; as the clothes (white robes that WE have washed) put on there are woven from the righteous acts we perform here on earth.
My point concerning death is simply that when we die our body returns to dust and our spirit returns to God. I don't believe that anyone in heaven that is with the Father (on the right side of the gulf) is walking around without any garments on.
If we believe Christ rose, then so does everyone else that dies.
Matthew 27:52-53 was a onetime event to show to all living at that time that Christ defeated death (look at 1 Corinthians 15:54-55, Hebrews 2:14).
Christi Smith you are greatly Loved ,don't worry about your appearance man looks at appearance but God looks at your heart, we should all seek to please God and ask the Holy Spirit to comfort you,he is out helper, our comforter and our teacher, ask him to help you over come the fear of death according to Hebrews 2:15 and ask him to teach you how to trust in him according to Psalms 56:3 God bless you Jesus Loves you
Erichburg, great Truths you have declared there. Though I see the original question (from nine years ago!), was to do with Jesus position as part of the Deity, yet the Scriptures show Him praying to the Deity, which seems unreasonable. The question is valid, but the understanding of Christ's position in incarnation is defective. I would turn to Psalm 8:5 which is the prophecy alluded to in Hebrews 2:9: "But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man." Also Phil 2:6-9.
These verses give us a glimpse: who the Word of God made incarnate is, & was given (by the Father or He took upon Himself voluntarily), some of the limitations of humanity. Jesus was in Heaven (pre-incarnate) as the Word only (some could disagree with me on this). That is, He was not known as Jesus there, but was the Word that proceeded from God, as was the Spirit of God. In His incarnation, he was given the Name of Jesus ( Lk 1:31), simply meaning, 'Saviour', which was not His Position pre-incarnation. Therefore, as the man Jesus, Who is the Christ, resorted to His Heavenly Father often in prayer, this seems quite appropriate given His Humanity & His position before God & in the Deity. And I would presume that in His ascended position at His Father's right Hand, He still holds the position of equality with the Godhead, yet as a Son (both human & part of the Godhead). Is this how you understand this?
Following on my 1st response, Joshua. The JW also point out that Christ is a "a Son", John 3:16, 1 John 4:10. They see Him as a created being Hebrews 2:17. But they miss the point. Philippians 2:9 says Jesus was exalted, elevated to a higher position, promoted. But do these all miss the meaning of what is said? Is there a difference between Jesus the Son of Man, and Christ the Eternal Preexisting God, Creator of all things, Colossians 1:16.
It is that distinction that many fail to see. The Coptic Manuscript should not be taken on its own. It might be the oldest, but that doesn't mean it is correct. Taken in context is is clear the import is The Word IS God, 2 Peter 1:3. He is Devine.
Well, it looks like we have a dilemma. God has convinced you without a doubt of a post tribulation rapture, and He's convinced me of a pre-tribulation rapture. Now what? We're both convinced, and we both believe we are convinced by God's word, so now what? That's a question that no one seems to be able to answer. Have you ever been convinced that God showed you something, and then later find out it was wrong? I have.
I don't think there is any proof on who wrote Hebrews. It wasn't until the 3rd century that the council of Carthage added Paul's name to the letter. But they had no proof of that. There are theories out there as to who it might be, and Paul's seems to be the most popular. But no one knows for sure. I don't see it being Paul. It was written too eloquently. It was not Paul's style of writing. Paul seemed to be all over the place in his letters. Plus, Paul usually attached his name to all his letters.
Hebrews had to have been written by a second generation Christian because of what the writer stated in Hebrews 2:3. "How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard Him. So whoever wrote Hebrews did not hear the Lord directly, nor did he receive from the Lord directly, but received and was confirmed and established for us, he being one of them, by those that heard Him.
Paul himself, as stated in Galatians 1:11-12 said, but I certify to you brethren that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man, for I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ. So Paul is not a second generation Christian. And whoever wrote Hebrews is a second generation Christian.
Jesus is not talking about all believers. In Verse 14 to Verse 18, you can see that Jesus is commissioning the 11 before sending them out. They are the ones that will do these things, not just casting out demons, but all the things listed in Verses 17 and 18. It was for the 11 that Jesus was sending out.
We see the confirmation in Verse 20 where the 11 went forth, confirming the word with signs following.
Hebrews 2:2 tells us that when the apostles went out and preached that there were signs that followed in order to establish the apostles preaching as the gospel of God. And that is what he is saying here.
There were various signs that were worked by Jesus through the disciples in order to confirm the message they were hearing is the gospel. It doesn't say every person that believes down through history is going to manifest all these various things, but rather, for the confirmation of the establishment of the Word of God, which we have with us today. Therefore, we don't need signs!
Reading Ezekiel 28:12-19, Matthew 25:41, Hebrews 2:14 and Revelation 20:10, it is apparent that the end of Satan is destruction in the lake of fire. There is no savior for fallen angels. Thank the LORD that he so loved us and provided his Son Jesus Christ to pay the penalty for our sin.
How does one discern Signs and Wonders from God above, or from evil spirits?
Jesus said there will be no signs except the Sign of Jonah. Jesus fulfilled that sign with His Ressurrection. The other Sign of Jonah is preaching the Word.
So these TV Preachers are faking healings, visions, tongues, etc...
If there really was a sign, I wouldn't believe it.
in a word YES Jesus went to Abraham's bosom recorded in Luke 16. Before Jesus all the old testament saints went there. On the other side were the wicked who rejected the Lord.

fallen angels have no offer of salvation Hebrews 2:16
Falling away is Not The Rapture as a few suppose...Falling away has taken place right now...We are No Longer on Fire for The Lord. We are for Luke Warm and given to Idols and fornification both in and out of Churches....We are for the most part t he same as The Laodician Church.

Mark 13:32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. Matthew 20:23 And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.

GOD is One He Knows no other Gods Beside him. "Us" Is plural. "our" is plural. Genesis 1:1 God created the Heavens and the earth. "Heavens" was already created. Earth was without form and void He His the Lord Of Host also he dwells between the cherubims. The reason why he created man in his own image is because He will save His people from their sins. Jerry: Angels are ministering spirits Hebrews 1:14. We humans are made a little lower than the angels and Jesus came to this earth as flesh Hebrews 2:16 There is God the Father, His Son Jesus and the Holy Spirit, then there are Angels, then Man. There is a distinction between these three levels, man can have the spirit of God in him if he asks and repents of sin.Blessings, continue to study..
Jerry: As Adam stated, angels can appear as human but are not flesh and blood. Man is made from the dust of the ground Genesis 2:7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground. Hebrews 2:16 He took not on him the nature of angels, but he took on him the seed of Abraham. Hebrews 1:7 And of the angels he saith, who maketh his angels spirits? Hebrews 1:14. Hebrews chapter 4 explains our rest (ceasing from our own works and resting in Jesus Christ). Today is the day of salvation.
