It would seem that at that time , the Israelites referred to the Word of the Lord , spoken through His prophets as a burden to them . God was always trying to help them by giving them good advice and guidance on how to live their lives in ways that would benefit them and be acceptable to Him . He wanted them to live happy safe lives in His love . They were a bit more inclined towards worldly pleasures I think , making money on the Sabbath , drinking excessively , marrying the heathen around them , the usual kind of trouble that any of us can get into , smiley face , they seemed to think that God just wanted to spoil their fun and so His Words became a burden to them .

    Ashley,

There are definitely some strange things going on in the OT: God made Ezekiel eat human dung cakes.

( Ezekiel 4:12) And thou shalt eat it as barley cakes, and thou shalt bake it with dung that cometh out of man, in their sight. Then says to make them with cow dung.

vs 15 Then he said unto me, Lo, I have given thee cow's dung for man's dung, and thou shalt prepare thy bread therewith.

God made Isaiah walk naked and barefoot for 3 years.

    ( Isaiah 20:2-4)

2 At the same time spake the Lord by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, Go and loose the sackcloth from off thy loins, and put off thy shoe from thy foot. And he did so, walking naked and barefoot.

    3 And the Lord said, Like as my servant Isaiah hath walked naked and barefoot three years for a sign and wonder upon Egypt and upon Ethiopia;

4 So shall the king of Assyria lead away the Egyptians prisoners, and the Ethiopians captives, young and old, naked and barefoot, even with their buttocks uncovered, to the shame of Egypt.

I believe Isaiah 20 may reveal to us that we must be want and be willing to obey the Lord. For three years Isaiah walked naked and without shoes because he was told to do so by the Lord. How he must have been judged by people! Isaiah was doing the Lord's will. Likely he was judged unhinged, possibly belittled maybe shunned, uncomfortable physically without his sackcloth and shoes but this work of Isaiah was deemed to be written in the inspired word of God so we should learn from it. This somewhat reminds me of Job's ordeals. We do not know the reason for our trials. I believe Isaiah's time was roughly 750 years before Christ.

Peace to all. Please pray for His will to be done and effort to accept it.

He fixed a serious problem for me in 5 min and I will never forget it!

How many times in the Bible is the word or form of the word "worship" mentioned. I'm doing a research project and was wanting to know.

It's a shame the KJV has been used by many cults , they always devise doctrine that is contrary to the scriptures them selves . Being led by spirits of Antichrist. Stick with the Bible and Gods given wisdom , ask of God if you lack it

I can't respond to what you've said by quoting from the Word, as it remains silent on a subject that I understand was not Church practice at that time. However, I believe you're correct in your thoughts about these 'Christian' holidays which have their roots in paganism.

Of the early Church, which should have made much ado about their Saviour's birth, death & resurrection by commemorating them on particular days, I note that the Word remains noticeably quiet. Yet, in the meaning & practise of the Lord's Supper, I tend to believe that they acknowledged Jesus' coming & work on the Cross at this time, without the need for the allocation of special days (which days they too, like us, may not be certain of).

Like you, I was very pedantic on this subject when I first came to Christ, as I was, with many other beliefs & practises of Christians. I only wanted to follow the teaching from the Word & not the teaching & traditions of men. Over the years, I have quietened & softened over the matter, taking comfort that at least the ungodly world can on these two occasions in the year, receive something of the glorious message of God. That they may know that this holiday time is not just a happy celebration of loved ones coming together in fellowship, but to consider the yearning of God to have fellowship & intimacy with all of them through His Son.

So how does God view the Christian's observance of these holidays? Again, I note that the Apostle Paul went to any length to be able to win souls for Christ. 1 Corinthians 9:20-23: He "became a Jew under the Law once again" (though not turning to Judaism) & to the "weak" (in faith & in mind), he became like them (in understanding their faithlessness), just so that by his identification with his hearers, he may be able to create open hearts to receive the Gospel which sets men free from the burden of the Law & is the trigger to receiving saving faith. We can use these occasions, any occasions, to share Christ's Love to all.

Here we are at Christmas time again. I struggle with Christmas, as I do Easter. I find it very hard to accept either holiday and believing that God is happy with "Christians" as many support these holidays, which have roots to pagan gods. Please reply based on God's Word. Thank you.

Praise God for His mighty working in your life to bring you to the point of realizing your own worthlessness in the light of the great worth & call of a loving Saviour to you. A mighty testimony indeed you shared. As I read it, I thought of Gen. William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army (1829-1912) who too was a mighty man of God & shared some great insights to the plight of mankind & their needs. Quotes such as:

"Most Christians would like to send their recruits to Bible college for five years. I would like to send them to hell for five minutes. That would do more than anything else to prepare them for a lifetime of compassionate ministry."

"If you want to change the future, then you are going to have to trouble the present."

"I am not waiting for a move of God, I am a move of God!"

"I consider that the chief dangers which confront the coming century will be religion without the Holy Ghost, Christianity without Christ, forgiveness without repentance, salvation without regeneration, politics without God, and heaven without hell."

"Some men's passion is for gold. some men's passion is for art. some men's passion is for fame. my passion is for souls."

"The greatness of a man's power is the measure of his surrender."

"Faith and works should travel side by side, step answering to step, like the legs of men walking. First faith, and then works; and then faith again, and then works again--until they can scarcely distinguish which is the one and which is the other."

"Put your ear down to the Bible, and hear Him bid you go and pull sinners out of the fire of sin. Put your ear down to the burdened, agonized heart of humanity, and listen to its pitiful wail for help."

"Some of my best men are women!"

"Go straight for souls, and go for the worst."

You may read his other great quotations by googling Quotations by Gen. William Booth. May the Lord bless you in your ministry, using you to pull out many from the fires of hell.

BUT GOD GRACE AND MERCY. To GOD be the Glory. Thank You JESUS. An encounter with GOD and JESUS. My Testimonial !. Must Read ! WOW !. I am a Vietnam Vet. This is very powerful. For I myself travel down this lonely road. The hurt , pain, sorrows, and no where to lay my head. over 20 years homeless, Lost everything:, Wife & Families. Gave up on life. Till one day GOD knock me down on all fours. ended up 3 months in a hospital. With gangrene .Leg to be amputated . A hospital Chaplin came and prayed over me. For the very 1st. time I tasted DEATH !. GOD showed me the bottomless pit. Never hit bottom; For it was bottomless, I was then lifted up by the right hand of GOD. From where I fell , I look across and saw 100s of people falling in to the bottomless pit. It was like a bad dream. BUT it was no dream. As I was going up toward the light, I felt a mist of running waters. Suddenly the pain on my leg left me, All of my sorrows vanish, It was a wonderful felling. NOW I WAS FRIGHTEN !. I look all around myself. A brightness like no other. To my left , 12 shadows of men putting my business out. Judgement Day. Judgement Day is no joking mater. To where yout own soul is your prosecutor. I was Guilty. Behind these men came a large ball of fire, Bright as the sun. I back up and looked into the fire. Just to see a man in the fire. IT WAS JESUS CHRIST !. Before me. in his full GLORY !. Trust me All knees will bow !. I threw myself on the floor. So ashamed of myself. Afraid to even to look and gaze upon his presents. Look down on the floor: Jesus came up to me. Place his feet under my face. WOW ! . JESUS is very real. Jesus shook his right finger down at me and chastised me. Then spoke these very WORDS to me ! YOU NOW WORK FOR ME.!. He love me so much that he forgave me. JESUS said to me . GO BACK AND TELL THE WORLD TO WHAT YOU HAVE SEEN .When I woke up, I was healed 100% . Doctors were baffle. Today I am on a mission for JESUS CHRIST as a pastor. It was the love of my savior. GRACE.

We have to realize that prophecy reveals what happened to a particular people in a generation and who disobeyed and what will happen to a generation of people who will do the same thing in respective of where they are. The bible stories was written to guide our lives and reveal to us consequences and many curses that followed many nations and generations countries and present predicament in such areas and what may happen to many nations who may repeat the same mistakes in other words keeping track with us on the benefits of obedience and consequences of sin. May the good Lord help us in Jesus name Amen.

My question is, did this event really happened or was the writers of the King Version trying to justify what occured during the 14th century to African people and the transatlantic slave trade. Because if the Isaiah 20:4 did happened it ment that God put African people through the same experience the second time.
