  • Brianna for verse 8 on Isaiah 42 - 7 years ago
A correct translation is not LORD,but the divine name Jehovah or Yahweh. With that name it gives vs. 8 a better understanding. Jehovah is God's name. It is a unique name, and a name that should not be covered over by titles. Jehovah does not share his name with any other God. It means "He causes to become".

    V. 7 - Jesus quoted this in Lk.4:18; the very beginning of His ministry, AFTER He had fasted 40 days and been tempted of satan. THEN - He began His work.

Verse.18 20:The passage does not teach that Christ went and preach to some imprisoned spirit in hades. It is saying that Christ was put to death in the flesh he died like all humans die ,but made alive by the Spirit. This means he died and was raise do life by the Holy Spirit, Rom.8:11 .Through whom that same Spirit he Jesus went and preach to the spirit in prison. So it was the Holy Spirit that did the preaching. But who are this spirit in prison?? They are simply the sinners who disobeyed God in Noah's day.In the Bible sinners are seen to be in Prison. Isaiah 42:7,61:1 . The Holy Spirit also the Spirit of Christ preached through Noah to those disobedient spirit. It shoul b noted that the Holy Spirit had been preaching in the past, present and will continue to preach through Holy Men of God. 2nd Peter 1:20 21 .Eph.2:17 says "Jesus came and preached peace to the Jews and gentiles".Jesus personaly ddnt preach to the gentiles.Rather the Holy Spirit which is His Spirit spoke through holy men of God.So the entire pasage simply means that Christ, through the His Spirit in Noah preached to those peoples who were under the bondage of Sin.Again it has a connection with His ascension and the pouring of the Spirit when He through His Spirit in Holy men preached to both the Jews and Gentiles. The passage can never mean Christ preached while He was dead to dead spirit in Noah's time. For it would contradict with what the Hebrew writer wrote"After death comes Judgement".There is no 2nd chance.

Verse 19, Blind and deaf is used in an abstract way not a literal blindness or deafness. The message is talking about servants of the Lord following orders completely, without reservation, trusting the Lord regardless of any outside influence that they may see or hear. This is further substantiated in verse 24 where being obedient to the law is shown to be important. The law Jesus gave is love one another. If people refuse to love one another the result is war and the Lord will respond. Verse 23 the time to come is the end of days war. The meaning of verse 24 is if a law or order is given then boundaries of behavior are set because they are defined. Also the law defines behavior outside of the boundary of the law. If one follows the law that is good and if one does not follow the law that is evil. So what behavior is good and what is evil are both defined or created, at the same time. If everyone loved one another, evil and war would not exist.

God is everywhere from this chapter. He is saying, He is in all places. But people thinks he is not. He can make the impossible possible, as people of God we have to have faith in his word and be a messenger of his word.

We only pray to Lord Jesus Christ, no such unscriptural thing as praying to the Holy Spirit or to Jehovah. It is agreed by the Trinity that we come to God through Christ alone, the ONLY mediator between God and Man.

Brianna...His name is in the bible and His name is Jesus. Acts 4 12 Neither is there salvation in any other for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
  • Brianna on Isaiah 42:8 - 10 years ago
Wow! As I read a lot of the other comments it was encouraging to see that everyone agreed that God 's name should be used in the bible. It really does make sense when you think about.the Bible is full of names. Jesus name certainly has not been taken out, and even the angel 's name, such as Gabriel was mentioned. So why would God 's name not be used???? Why is there a capital LORD for each place God 's name should be used? Whether Jehovah or Yahweh, a name should be used. LORD is a title, not a name!
  • Ese okposio on Isaiah 42 - 10 years ago
The Servant spoken about is the Lord of Hosts, the Holy Spirit, The One who has been appointed to Judge, The Son of Promise, the One promised by Lord Jesus, the Spirit of Truth. He is known and called by different Names in the Scripture but He is One and the same person. Since it is written in this chapter that He created the heavens and the earth, then He is Lord God Almighty. Hebrew chapter 1 tells us his different personalities!

The reason the name Jehovah is not used is because the practice of not using it saying the divine name cones from the Jews. Even today in the synagogue Jews will not utter the name yehweh or Jehovah.

  • Ar on Isaiah 42 - 10 years ago
God s name is Jehovah a d nobody has removed it. The Israelis, having in mind Exodus 20 verse 7 changed it to Adonai when talking about God, which means the Lord. The Greek translation is which means the Lord. You must be a Jehovah witness and I would suggest that instead of teaching wrong and criticizing other believers, when you knock at a door, talk about Salvation. That s what Jesus taught us to do. Tell me, how many times did Jesus use the name Jehovah when He was here on earth? He always referred to God as our Father. Even our daily prayer says Our Father who art in Heaven...I hope you understand what I mean. God Bless you

42 8 "I am the LORD, that is my name.. " When the KJ bible uses lord in all caps that 's because they have removed Gods name Jehovah. Read Romans 10 13 15, Psalms 9 10, Psalms 91 14, Acts 2 21, Joel 2 32 and John 17 26

During some prayer time, the Holy Spirit brought to my remembrance this phrase "before they spring forth." God tells us His good plans, His promises BEFORE we actually see them. It is so important to be listening for the spoken word of God, the quickened counsel, encouragement that He best can give to us. Googling this phrase brought me to this website; seeing the context of this verse provides even more blessing and confirmation to continue to wait expectantly for the fulfillment of these spoken treasures.

When the Egyptian pharaoh Ramses through Moses out of Egypt,he had Mose name taken down from all
the buildings and monuments and it was forbidden to even utter Moses name. This was done as a punnishment and insult to Mose as he was so deeply hated by the Pharaoh. As bible students
and professional scholars know,Pharaoh was anti-typical for Satan the devil. So in layman's terms,Almighty God's name JEHOVAH has been removed from the Holy Bible by Satan earthly

This verse shows the importance of using God's name. He alone is the most glorious and we should not give praise to graven images or idols. This shows how we should not use idols in our worship.
  • Linda on Isaiah 42:8 - 11 years ago
The Creator of heavens and earth, has a name, just like you and I. His name is Jehovah. And every Bible should have his name in it. The Lord is a title.
  • Mil on Isaiah 42:8 - 11 years ago
Here we go again , God's name that is used in the Bible almost 7,000 times was wiped out in this verse again and replaced with Lord. And there are even people they really believe that Lord is name. Unbelievable. Even when some people have titles Lord and everybody knows that that is not their real name.

Verse 8: Truly, the Lord is not a title but a name of GOD, not to be used for anyone, even to Jesus, HIS prophet.
