Abigail Isa. 49:2-3; "... a sharp sword..."; Heb. 4:12; Rev. 19:15, v.21. When the Word of God is spoken (or read) it pricks, cuts your conscience of sin. For those who are alright with the Lord it keeps them aware of where they need to be, Ps. 23:3. The polished silver shaft is an arrow that is in a quiver and the Lord uses it (Isaiah) to carry His word swiftly to His people.

This verse is a description of the Lord 's crucifixion. He allowed the crucifiers to "graven " nails through his hands out of his great love for his people. Cities of the time were typically surrounded by walls for safety and protection, so the Lord is saying that he is continuously and anxiously interested in the safety and protection of his people.
