THE SCRIPTURE SHARED ABOUT THE FARST THAT IS CHOOSEN BY GOD. IT FURTHER GAVE GUIDELINES OF WHAT YOU SHOULD NOT DO WHEN FASTING BUT RATHER THE GUIDLINES AND PURPOSE THAT WILL MAKE THE FAST SACREF AND THE REWARD OF TOTAL OBEDIENCE TO GOD'S WILL. DURING THE TIME OF FASTING.
Though fasting in prayer is a doctrine, I do not think that this is about fasting at all, but that obedience and righteousness delight God more than fasting.
Thank God for His grace and Holy Spirit who interpret the Bible beyond human wisdom and if you understand the chapter 58 of that Isaiah you will see that why you fast is not for yourself alone but for the benefit of other less privilege ones.Clothe the naked ones, feed the hungry ones, set the captives free and then whatever you prayed for during your fasting, the answers are sure and you have also capture the mind of God.May the peace of the Lord be with you all.
Isaiah 58 gives the true meaning of fasting. It is an highlight of what fasting is and what it brings in our lives. I it a chapter that all christians should be well versed with and embrace in our christian lives. It brings a true meaning and change in our lives if we practice what the word tells us.
To me the lord is saying the fast He has chosen for us is to loose the bands of wickedness,to undo heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that every yoke be broken. And that we are to help those who are hungry, need clothed, homeless, etc. those who are less fortuante then we are those in need of help.
i think it clearly shows us christians the importance of fasting en how it should be done and the promises that come along with it.many christians have not known how to fast,av just discovered here that fasting is not theoritical but rather practical,it is an act that must be performed.its about giving out to the less fortunate, when you fast dont be idle so that people knw u have fasted like many pple do instead go out and perform your fast by giving out to the poor and visiting places like orphanages preaching to them the word of God,after you have performed that the bible says then ask whateva you will and it shall be done for you.
These promises are beautiful! I love the Scriptures -Gods "Word", they are so clear and plain, If we would just study them for ourselves, seeking Scripture Truth instead of listening to what 'man' teaches, The truths would be made clear and confusion subside, and following Christ would be a pleasure! . . , He is "the Word made flesh!" To pervert the scriptures and to change their meaning, is to rip apart and misrepresent Christ Himself. "Thank you Father for blessing me as I choose to come away from the world and mans traditions and honor your Word, and for meeting with me in an extra special way, as You promised, during the appointed time you set up from the beginning of time for us every 7th day, and which You tell us we will do together throughout all eternity"... Isaiah 66:22-23
NEVER knew there were details on fasting and it's benefits in the scripture. I know that Jesus and his disciples did fast, but never knew why exactly. What an interesting thing to learn. I may give it a try and see what changes take place!
Isaiah Chapter 58 is an admonishment to 'do our alms before God and not before man". We are to prepare all week for The Sabbath so that when we come before God,we do not come empty handed. We are to keep that day set aside ,not to follow our hobbies but to rest, enjoying our families, and worshipping Him who is master of all.
@Queen; The Sabbath is a day set aside by any one person as a day of dedicated worship to our Lord.To some it is Saturday and to others it is Sunday, and to others it is sunday even though the calendar states that day is the first day of the week, but to them spritually it is the 7th day. It is not in which day of the week as much so as it is a day of worship on a 7 day cycle.
God’s Sabbath day is on Saturday, the seventh day, not Sunday. People need to go back to creation when God said he created the earth in six days and rested the seven day and blessed it. Sunday is the first day of the week. If Sunday is the Sabbath then why did the bible say that Jesus rose on the first day of the week which is Sunday?
@Reggie,
May I suggest, letting the Bible explain Hebrews 4: 9, 10.
“9 There remains therefore a rest to the people of God”. The word “rest” in original Greek is “Sabbatismo” from which we get the word ”Sabbath” or the seventh day. This matches perfectly with what verse 10 says: “For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.” Here is that account: Genesis 2 “1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished and all the host of them. 2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.” Though the Jews kept the seventh day Sabbath, it is not a Jewish sacred day only; it belongs to all of us. It is not a punishment but a privilege. And keeping the Sabbath Day holy is not an option either: It is the fourth of the Ten Commandments ( Exodus 20). Jesus, our Creator gave us the Sabbath at the end of the Creation Week. He kept it holy while on earth, and he bids us to teach all nations “whatsoever I have commanded you” Matthew 28:19, 20. Here is a promise to those who keep it: “If thou turn away thy foot from the Sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the Sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honorable; and shalt honor him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words; Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD… for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it”. Isaiah 58: 13, 14. This Sabbath Day will also be celebrated in God’s New Kingdom: “And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one Sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.” Isaiah 66:23. Now, how we celebrate the Sabbath is another issue.
What a fast, to bind up the broken hearted, to clothe the naked, to relieve the oppressed? How many things we do that are not approved by the Lord, Lord help me to surrender, and let your will be the will for my life. If thou turn away thy foot from trampling my Sabbath, what a promise of blessings shall be ours.
Chapter 58 of Isaiah teaches us more about fasting and Monday through to Saturday are God's days for us to work and pray and prepare ourselves for Sunday the Sabbath or the day that is for God and we should be fixed on him. When the troubles of the world come against us we should not step back from them, but press forward and fight. Our greatest weapon is the word of God and the word is and should lead to our Worship. We men are made for War and therefore we are equipped with the tools spoken of in Isaiah chapter 58 to go to battle with. Give it to God and fast and pray and as the scripture says "Don't do it to be heard", which is fasting to be heard or seen and let us do the things of God not just on Sunday but from Sunday to Sunday. In ministry classes we were taught "Much Prayer Much Power, Little Prayer Little Power and no Prayer no Power”. So fasting and praying and seeking God and giving it all to him can and will set us free from the things that had us bound. Amen.
Isaiah 58 is an example of the acceptable fast. It is the secret to loose the bands of wickedness, undo heavy burden and to let the oppressed go free. Simply put, it is the secret to Deliverance. Apply it and your will change.
From the first Word of Genesis and arrival at Isaiah 58. A man was sent speaking to the times of the people. Speaking about what was given him to see. And he spoke what he saw. The commandment was to speak it very loudly. And not to hold back on the volume. Boost the intensity and the seriousness. A trumpet was the loudest thing in those days. He was told to match the intensity of an instrument that was designed for volume. Just think how the message would have been put forth in this day. Imagine not sparing wattage, or voltage to speak to a multitude of people.
The house of Jacob. Even though Jacob is now long dead. And many matters and trends ideas and beliefs have changed since Jacob ruled. But the message was delivered saying "...the house of Jacob...",. Could the message have been addressed with another title?
If you have read from Genesis to the 58th Book of Isaiah you can see and would understand the many times after Jacob has died and his name is still used to identify the People. Do you remember Israel? They were called Children. Do you know why. People read, people study, people call themselves Christian. Look in to yourself and ask a million questions. Ask them of God. God promises that we need that no man should teach us, and that He Himself will teach us. Okay, now don't get me wrong. When Saul protested that there must be a preacher and an ear to hear that preacher he was talking about the Gospel of the New Contract. (New Testament). The Christ told us only of an ear, and about that ear having the ability to hear. Well, with that, you have to ask about those who were born deaf.
Then you can learn what type of hearing is truly necessary.
Back to verse 58.
Show My people their transgression. This is judgement. God alone is qualified to judge. Judgement is given to mankind after much study and qualifications. But God alone has perfect judgement without error.
So to speak judgement to an entire people. You must agree that God alone is qualified. And that The message has a high percentage of being from God. Spiritually spiced to say the least. And to say that they have sins is to say that you are qualified to measure standards.
Isaiah 58 tells us about doing the will of God, obey his commandment. Sometimes our fasting and prayers does not move God, is not acceptable unto God if we don't obey him. God want us to give sacrificially, willingly to the needy, save lives by feeding the hungry souls spiritually and physically. If we do this, those good promises in the chapter will then be ours.
I had always heard that fasting for from food and Tv programs that was not spiritual. I'm glad to know that. I didn't know all these years that the true Sabbath is not Sunday. Now I'm a 7th Day Adventist. And changing my eating habits to be more in order with what the Lord had planned for His People.
ISAIAH 58 TEACHES HOW TO RESPECT THE SABBATH DAY. WE SHOULD NEVER DO THE SAME THINGS WE DO ON OTHER DAYS ON THE SABBATH DAY. THAT DAY BELONGS TO THE LORD SO ALL OUR FOCUS SHOULD BE ON HIM. IT ALSO TEACHES ABOUT FASTING SINCERELY.WHEN FASTING YOU SHOULD ALWAY STAY AWAY FROM THINGS THAT ARE DESIRABLE TO YOU.ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOUR HEART IS IN IT AND AFTER GOD.AND MAKE SURE YOU ARE HUMBLE BEFORE GOD.
