Hi Andrew. Just to answer your question, "By what name was John baptizing?" I assume you're speaking of John the Baptist. If so, he wasn't baptizing in anyone's name. His was the baptism of repentance ( Mark 1:4; Acts 13:24; Acts 19:4) & was an in-between baptism from the Jewish performance of baptism (which Jesse has well explained), to 'believers' baptism' (which is an identification with the death, burial & resurrection of Jesus Christ).

The Jewish thought was simply of external washing prior to religious performances (Muslims also do this for that very reason, prior to their five daily prayer rituals) - the Christian belief is one of responding to an inward change. John's baptism was the 'connecting piece', bringing Jews to understand that there needs to be a washing not for the body as was previously done, but to show that it is actually a matter of the heart. And this was done by the "The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight", in preparation of the arrival & ministry of the Messiah, Whom the Jews should have welcomed according to the prophecies that went before Him, but to their suffering & eternal doom, the they rejected & even had Him crucified.

Precious friends, According To Scriptures, God Only has 'ONE' baptism, today, Under GRACE!

Further, it is 'impossible' for The 'ONE' Baptism to be 'physical' water, Since IT Is The 'Spiritual' OPERATION Of God, inducting 'members' Into The 'ONE' Body Of CHRIST, Under GRACE! Ephesians 4:5 and 1 Corinthians 12:13 Please Be 'Richly' Encouraged!:

    Andrew,

In verse 19, Jesus said to baptize in the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. The reason why all three of the Godhead are mentioned here is because the Jews actually immersed or baptized three times. We do it once. But the Jews would dunk three times for baptism. They didn't know why. But Jesus is saying that when you immerse three times, one is in the name of the Father, one's in the name of the Son, and one is in the name of the Holy Spirit.

Around the year 316 A.D., Constantine changed it. He said that if that's the way the Jews do it, and if that's the way Jesus told them to do it, then we are only going to immerse once, just to be different.

So we dunk once in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. And the Jews dunk three times. But that's why Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is used here. When you go to the book of Acts, they baptized in the name of Jesus. So now we have this big battle of the baptisms, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, or "Jesus name only?" But you see, one is Jewish, and one is Gentile!

By what name was john baptizing?

    Reference;

    Mathew 28;18-19.

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, "baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost"

    Thank you.

    Islands of the Sea

    Wesley's Notes for Isaiah 41:1

41:1 Keep silence - Attend diligently to my plea. Islands - By islands he means countries remote from Judea, inhabited by the idolatrous Gentiles. Renew - Strengthen themselves to maintain their cause against me; let them unite all their strength together. Near - Unto me that we may stand together, and plead our cause, and I will give them free liberty to say what they can on their own behalf.

[you can use the search (box) engine to read all of the "islands of the sea" or "isles" scriptures]

This is what I was taught: that these islands are actually other continents bordered by water (seas or oceans). Presumably Gentile. No where near the Mideast regions.

The Sea of Galilee, the Jordan River, the Red Sea and Mediterranean Sea are mentioned a number of times in both the Old and New Testaments. Each the the three bodies of water serves as geographical boundary markers in Numbers 34:1-12.

    Ezekiel 26:15-18 (sounds like NYC)

    Jeremiah 2:10-11,

    Jeremiah 31:10, Isaiah 60:9,

    Isaiah 42:10, 11:11, 24:25, 66:19, Daniel 11:18

The USA is bordered on 3 sides by water and would be considered an island.

16 Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.

17 Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the REFUGE OF LIES, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.

I have written unto you because you must know that no lie is of the truth.

    Isaiah 16:v. 16-22

18 ... when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it.

19 From the time that it goeth forth it shall take you: for morning by morning shall it pass over, by day and by night: and it shall be a vexation only to understand the report.

20 For the bed is shorter than that a man can stretch himself on it: and the covering narrower than that he can wrap himself in it.

21 For the Lord shall rise up as in mount Perazim, he shall be wroth as in the valley of Gibeon, that he may do his work, his STRANGE work; and bring to pass his act, his STRANGE act.

22 Now therefore be ye not mockers, lest your bands be made strong: for I have heard from the Lord GOD of hosts a consumption, even determined upon the whole earth.

Blasphemy against Jesus is forgivable but Blasphemy of the HOLY SPIRIT is not forgivable...Be Humble before the LORD.

What? it is not the holy spirit, but the spirit of darkness that inspired the message posted. america has nothing to do with the prophecy of isaiah 60, it is fake.

what you said is from the pit and rises up from the bottonless pit bringing a devilish theory of your esoteric, and kabbalistic, and spiritist belief when you say that ".....the most high's greatest mystery in the bible is the second coming of jesus, which is the female incarnation of his perfect soul ....to have the faith needed to fear the lord more than any principality...to bring jesus back to life... a message from the most high".

the message you posted is a stumbling block for god's people, because your thinking is from a human perspective, not from god's perspective!"

THIS Chapter is calling out ZION = AMERICA AND THAT TGE DAUGHTER OF ZION WILL COME TO ESTABLISH TGE NEW JERUSALEM AND IS THE GATEKEEPER WITH THE KEY TO BRING JESUS FROM HEAVEN TO EARTH TO BE KING.....THE MOST HIGH'S GREATEST MYSTERY IN THE BIBLE IS THE SECOND COMING OF JESUS, WHICH IS THE FEMALE INCARNATION OF HIS PERFECT SOUL ....TO HAVE THE FAITH NEEDED TO FEAR THE LORD MORE THAN ANY PRINCIPALITY...TO BRING JESUS BACK TO LIFE... A MESSAGE FROM THE MOST HIGH

You will arise and have mercy on Zion; for the time to favor her, yes, the set time, has come. For your servants take pleasure in her stones, and show favor to her dust.

So the nations shall fear the name of the Lord, and all the kings of the earth your glory. For the Lord shall build up Zion; he shall appear in his glory. This will be written for the generation to come, that a people yet to be created may praise the Lord. For he looked down from the height of his sanctuary; from heaven the Lord viewed the earth, to hear the groaning of the prisoner, to release those appointed to death, to declare the name of the Lord in Zion. And his praise in Jerusalem, when the peoples are gathered together, and the kingdoms, to serve the Lord.

Please let Your ear be attentive and Your eyes open, that You may hear the prayer of Your servant which I pray before You now, day and night, for the children of Israel Your servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel which we have sinned against You. Both my father's house and I have sinned.

Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, Look down from Your holy habitation, from heaven, and bless Your people Israel and the land which You have given us, just as You swore to our fathers, "a land flowing with milk and honey." Now it shall come to pass in the latter days.

Not being proficient with the DSS, I have been able to find that in the DSS (in Scroll 4Q76, Minor Prophets), the word "sun" is NOT in capitals. I'm guessing that the translators capitalized the word as it referred primarily to God (as in Psalm 84:11; Isaiah 60:19,20). And by extension, 'Sun' could be applied to Jesus, ( Luke 1:76-79; John 8:12).

Maybe others with more information on this will contribute.

We wouldn't be able to do a full study here but I will give you an outline of this chapter 60 in Isaiah.

This chapter is essentially about the future of Israel & Jerusalem, specifically the glory that will again be theirs in Christ's Millennial Kingdom on Earth. Even though the Gentiles will be in darkness, God's Glory will be seen upon Israel (v 2). This will draw the Gentiles into God's Light (v 3) & they too, if they repent, will share in the Millennial blessings (v 5) & the nations around will brings their offerings to it (vv 6-11). But the nations that remain obstinate & reject Israel will be left to ruin (v 12). Where once Israel was hated & despised, they will be the one to be admired & drawn towards (vv 15,16). The Lord Himself will be there & there will be no more violence or mourning for Jesus will be their continual Light & Salvation (vv 18-21).

Interestingly, Isaiah 61:1 was quoted by Jesus when He was on Earth & when He ministered in the synagogue (see Luke 4:14-21). Jesus quoted that Isaiah portion, 61:1 to 2a, but He did not quote the second part of verse 2, "the day of vengeance of our God". Jesus sat down & said (in Luke 4:21), "This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears", meaning, He made the claim before the Jews gathered there, that He was anointed by God to do all that God had ordained & prophesied in Isaiah 16:1 & 2 by His Coming to Earth. But for the future coming day of vengeance which will be prior to His Second Coming, culminating in the War of Armageddon, He won't come as the healer, comforter & deliverer, but to bring desolation to the world of sinners. And then comes the Millennial Era where Jesus rules from the Earth & what we read in Isaiah chapter 60.

Isaiah 60:5, I love this verse.

"Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged, because of the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee."

In my heart I see from the East the Faith of Abraham flowing towards the rising of Christ at his birth. I see the decedents of Judah flowing towards the birthplace, I see the proselytes of Israel flowing towards the birthplace, I see decedents of Abraham and Keturah carrying the gifts in another flowing to the Christ Child. Then from the West, Gentiles flowing towards the Christ Child. The Child being able to accept the flows of the peoples until the end of time as a sea.

    Just some evening thoughts....

    Genesis 1:17 KJV

    (17) And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,

God sets His 2 greatest commandments in the firmament of Heaven.in our opened, expanded hearing (HEAR, O Israel..) of the Spirit that comes from there. We are to do what He has set/established in the kingdom of God so that others see His Light shine in the darkness of this earth.

    Mark 12:28-31 KJV

    (28) And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all?

    (29) And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

    (30) And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.

    (31) And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

Thou are not far from the kingdom of God...

    Mark 12:34 KJV

    (34) And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.

When we do His commandments, we shall shine as the stars giving His Light upon this dark earth.

    Daniel 12:3 KJV

    (3) And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.

The nations shall come to His light/glory that they see arising upon us...

    Isaiah 60:1-3 KJV

    (1) Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.

    (2) For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.

    (3) And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising.

    Jo, jo

The word good in V. 34 means useful. In those days, salt was a preservative. They put salt on things to keep it from putrefying. But if salt does not contain the proper ingredients, what is it good for? Jesus talks about salt and light in Matt 5:13-16. He says, "You are the salt of the earth." At this point and time in experiencing the fullness of God, He says, YOU ARE the salt of the earth. And then He says, "YOU ARE the light of the world." Salt was used for two things. It was used as a preservative. They used it to preserve food, especially meat and vegetables. They also used it for purification. In 2 Kings 2:19-23, salt was used to purify bad water.

But to know why He used the term salt, we need to understand that God made a covenant of salt with Israel ( Numbers 18:19), which God said would be upon David and his descendants. Paul in Romans Chapter 11 said all of the Jews of the Kingdom. In Matt 5:14-16, Jesus says you are salt and you are light. He went on to say that you can't take a light and put it under a bushel.

What He is saying is you can't snuff out the light of the Lord. The light amongst the Jews was the Messiah. You are salt. Christ in you is the light, and Christ in you is the purification and the preservative for the people around you and especially in your life.

The command is let your light so shine. Did you ever sing that song "This little light of mine, not going to let anybody blow it out? It can't be blown out. Nobody can blow it out. The command itself, (let your light so shine) kind of sounds like an invitation. But literally, it is "Shine your light," which is a command of God. Shine your light! I don't have to worry about going out to my car to find the light because the Lord said for me to shine it. Israel was said to be the light of the world. Isaiah 42:6, Isaiah 49:6, and Isaiah 60:3 says that the Jews were to be the salt and the light of the world.

I don't think anyone would argue that the God of the Bible, Jehovah, is a God of Order and Purpose, Ephesians 3:11. We see how when He created the Universe, He organized it and set everything in motion, by carefully coordinating the composition and orbits of Galaxies, Stars, and Planets, Isaiah 60:20-22. He also established Physical Laws to regulate the interaction of all matter. Even the smallest Atoms are regulated. Everything adheres to His Principles for order, Psalm 8:3. That is also true of Humanity and Social interaction, John 1:17. There are set rules and standards everything must meet to function. There is even a cycle in the Earth that allows things to decompose and regenerate. Leaves fall in the forest. They decompose. Then they act as nutrients for the soil. Those nutrients feed the seeds that grow into more trees.

The Bible tells us that in the Beginning of Time, God created the Heavens and the Earth. He also created vegetation, animals and mankind. The Bible also tells us the name of the Creator is Jehovah. In the New Testament we find Christ with God at the beginning. And Christ created all things. So we find that:

    1. God is a God of Order

    2. He created all things that exist, visible and invisible

    3. God created with a Plan and Purpose

    4. That Purpose is found in Christ

    5. Without Christ, nothing was made that was made

    6. All things were created For Christ

    7. Before Adam and Eve were created, God had a Plan

    8. That Plan is called His Eternal Plan of Creation

    9. It is also called His Plan of Redemption or Salvation

    10. Christ, as the Sacrificial Lamb, existed before Abraham

    11. Christ as the Sacrificial Lamb existed before Adam and Eve Sinned

    12. Our Salvation through Christ was decided before The Fall

    13. When Adam and Eve fell, God's Plan for Creation was already working

    14. We are part of God's Plan of Creation as the Redeemed by His Love and Grace

    15. We can love God, because He first loved us
