Verse 5: If we are lacking in wisdom on how to be more pleasing to God we should pray to him for the wisdom and he will offer us the help we need.
  • Emanuel Fernandes on James 1 - 7 years ago
Don't be a partaker of other men sins this means don't participate in sin or cover it up or look the other way. That sin of omission which is a common sin all Christians are guilty of frequently
  • Mumde on James 1 - 7 years ago
I thank God for this book, a brother in Christ was teaching about temptations last week and asked the congregation where all thought temptations come from. It was sad to note that most of us including myself were not sure up until the teacher read from James 1 vs 13. I learnt that I need to read the Bible as much often as possible so I don't miss salvation because of ignorance
  • Doris McIntosh on James 1 - 7 years ago
"keep himself unspotted from the world". Does this not mean that we should not participate in or condone things of the world that we know is sin? People too often say it is just changing times.
"Be not conformed to this world but rather by the renewing of your mind...". I agree that it is very clear James should be applied to every day living.

Victoria. Amen sister. So sad that so many people blame everything that happens to them on God. Stay strong!

"But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavers is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed." We are of the world to come which the Lord Jesus brings from the right hand of the Father to establish the world in righteousness and truth and life everlasting. The soundness and solidity of our understanding of this is what makes our faith in Him firmly established and unmovable. We are not uncertain about the truth, that God is! And we are not unstable and flow to the point of least resistance like water but our stability is in the supreme greatness and authority of Him who both created the waters, and walks upon them! Let us strive with all earnestness and determination to let patience have its perfect work in us, that we should not be ashamed at His coming but receive Him with fullness of joy and expectation when He appears.
  • Victoria on James 1 - 7 years ago
v17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and cometh down from the Father of light... This means that if a gift is not good/perfect it not from God if it something that causes you pain or makes you sad it definitely not from God because God knows how to give Good and perfect gifts if you ask him for bread he would not give you stone. Amen

James is very clear at whose feet blame falls in temptation. People that say the devil made me do it are simply endeavoring to transfer their sin to him. Temptation can not be avoided, how ever our response to it determines whether it becomes sin. A lot of Christians give satan far too much credit when in reality We are the ones responsible for our own actions.

James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not and it shall be given him. Paul wrote 13 books of the Bible and is the 13 Apostles.
  • Evangelist Andrew Kelly - 7 years ago
Thinking an evil thought or temptation is not a sin, if that is the case then Jesus must have sinned as he was tempted. We endure temptation NOT do what it says.
James 1:12] Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
  • Chosen by God on Joshua 7 - 7 years ago
profound words, why is it that when we as believers depart from the correct teaching of God's word and enter into sin we tend to fault God, asking stupid questions like, if God is so powerful WHY DID HE.....stop right there we made that choice to enter into sin. James 1:5 "IF any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not;and it shall be given him

I like how the book of James contains to every day of our life. Not just yesterday.

Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this , To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. James 1:27
  • Insight777 on James 1 - 7 years ago
V27, Stephen visited and fed the Jewish fatherless and widows that were neglected by the Jews. Pure in heart, with kindness and charity, Stephen was not only helping Christians but also those in need under the dominance of other religions. Jewish religion and Christianity are not the same religion.

Verse 13: God doesn't tempt man is very clear, test yes, but tempt no. Neither does the devil make man do sin, our own desires of the flesh are what lead a person down the road to destruction, verse 14. Faith is more than saying, I believe so I am saved. It takes a deep conviction that is strong enough to change conduct befitting God and saying no to temptation of our own bodies to sin, obedience

    11 Sam 2: 4-5
4 And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness:

5 And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with child.

    James 1:13
15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.

James 1:21"receive with meekness the engrafted word which is able to save your souls. The "engrafted word", is all 66 books of Holy Writ. The"engrafted word" is not what some teach that there are only certain parts that pertain to salvation. I think they call it "fundamentals, and essentials doctrine" Be not deceived.

Verses 2 to 4 shows that when we successfully cope with trials it makes our faith stronger and we develop positive qualities.
  • Lewis Mills Jr on James 1 - 7 years ago
To me this verse shows us how to be humble, and obedient, in honoring God with sincerity, doing what God's word says do, not seeking the attention of man. Obedience.
  • LaVonne on 1 Chronicles 17 - 7 years ago
"MasterProhet" God does not lie. As believers we should think on these verses also. Titus 1:2 God cannot lie. Heb. 6:18 It is impossible for God to lie, he is immutable (unchanging) James 1:17 No shadow of turning. This is because he is HOLY, HOLY, HOLY REV 4:8. His promises are faithful and true. We serve a truly awesome God. I love reading all the different comments.
  • Wayne on Matthew 8 - 7 years ago
Peggy, in accordance with Irene, 1 James 1:5-6, states we are to ask wisdom of God, where we lack, and He will not refuse us nor make fun of our lack of understanding. I have done this at times I did not understand, and He gave me the answers. Not always right away, but we are to insist and persist. He Loves Us!

Bruce, though the same Greek word for temptation is used it is spoken of in 2 contexts. The first is one in which you "fall into". This is meant to try the faith and produce enduring obedience and faithfulness to God as we experience His grace more and more.
The second refers to being tempted with that which God cannot be, evil. This comes from within and is inherent in our flesh see Romans 7.

Dave:Persecution is hostility or ill-treatment especially because of race or political or religious beliefs. Temptatian: a desire to do something especially something wrong or unwise. Let's get to the "Heart" of the matter.V:14. Temptation comes from within. ( Temptation is not persecution.) John 6:44,1John1:9,you will be Matthew 3:11. You will know! 2Corinthians 5:17. Impossible not to know.
  • Vince on James 1 - 7 years ago
Temptation is not sin, giving in to it is. We must recognize it for what it is and act accordingly

  • Ronald Beal on James 1 - 7 years ago
Temptation comes from within- we are drawn away, (from the provision of God) when we seek to obtain in our own strength. Lusting is not the temptation to break the Law; Leaving the provision/ power of God and attempting to obtain in our own strength, i.e., Sin. The provision by God is called Faith, all that is not of Faith is Sin, period. Follow "Faith" through the scriptures for confirmation.
  • Bruce on James 1 - 7 years ago
Temptation is not persecution! Temptation comes from within:V-15.
Persecution comes from outside Matthew5:10-12,V-11Blessed are ye, when men Shall revile you and persecute you and say all manner of evil against you falsely---.We are Salt and the only Light the world will see Matthew5:13-16.
Our Savior is the only one coming to town.He has a list of good and bad. Revelations 20.15
