Verse 1 tells you WHO this is aimed at - be REAL careful not to confuse this with doctrine for today 's NT Christian.
  • George on James 1 - 9 years ago
the book of James is powerful. its truth reveals all men and women as they should appear daily before God and in God 's will. this is a teaching that should be a daily guide for us to live by giving attention to the commandments of God.

This verse is so powerful, but often overlooked and rarely quoted. Scientific Research has pointed to the state of 'fatherlessness ' and its impact on the lives of many children who are categorized as 'at risk ' in our society - many of whom end up in dire circumstances as young adults. It makes one wonder if more people practicing Christianity took this definition of 'pure religion ' i.e. helping the fatherless and widows seriously what our world would be like.

Temptation is one of the greatest tool the Devil uses against God 's children. Don 't fall for the bait... that 's the reason why we were cautioned to be wise as serpents and be harmless as doves. By divine insight we know when the Devil applies his tricks from him or via his agents...
  • MR.ALON CHARLES on James 1 - 9 years ago
I think James chapter 1 is just like the rest of the word of GOD,a very spiritual high not only through reading it,but applying it to one 's life.
  • Mike D on Psalms 119:45 - 9 years ago
It 's almost as though James was referring to Psalms 119:45 when he penned James 1:25. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. When you walk in the truth you are set at liberty, for you are freed from the bondage of sin that would imprison you.

I really Live this : Cause we are all tempted and I feel reading about this helps us to stay strong in the Lord !!!
  • MockingBird on James 1:12 - 9 years ago
For every transgression and disobedience there is a just recompence of reward : I will be forgiven and cleansed when I confess that sin : at the same time I will also reap a just recompence of reward. David the king faced it : He was forgiven for killing Uriah the Hittite at the same time the sword was on his house hold till the day he died !!!! I must be very wise to not yield to any temptation !!!!

  • R. Simpson on James 5 - 9 years ago
To Insight 777 's comment, rain in the context has nothing to do with your comment but uses the illustration of a man that had faith and what he did with it. Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. Context and doctrine is not everything but it is if you to clearly understand the Bible. "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not and it shall be given him. James 1:5 God bless my friend.
  • Anonymous on James 1:24 - 9 years ago
The man in this illustration turned away from the mirror without acting on what he saw. So instead of just reading Gods Word, we want to apply it in our lives so we can benefit from the guidance.

Verse 6,It is faith filled thinking that focuses attention on the meaning of Gods Word. Wisdom is understanding the Spirit of a man. What is Love, what is Kindness but actions of the soul and spirit. He that wavers wants his physical desires and demands fulfilled by God as a requirement of being a follower that accepts the spiritual power of God. This type of man asks God for physical riches that explained in verse 10 will not extend his life but will perish. Do not choose to follow God with the expectation of physical wealth as motivation. Appearances of lack and appearances of wealth are only temporary as the Holy Spirit guides us to the understanding that our physical lives are brief and expire regardless of status. Eternal life is reserved for those that seek the blessings of Spirit such as love and kindness in this life. Those with wisdom that do not waver, act accordingly with charity and concern for mankind. It is God 's pleasure to bestow the kingdom of abundant living on the faithful, the most excellent gift of eternal life. Chapter 12 of Luke verse 32... "Fear not...for it is your Father 's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. "

I believe the hardest is being slow to talk but with faith I believe I can do it since if u are slow to talk it will lead to slow to wrath
  • Dewey J on Genesis 7 - 9 years ago
Seth, that is very good question I will attempt to answer it by the Holy Bible Scripture. I would say sin not God created these diseases before the flood after the sin of Adam and Eve. Before that we know Luficer invented sin was kicked out of Heaven because of it and became the Devil, Satan, Serpent, and that old Dragon. This was the origin of all evil. The Scripture tells us that Satan is the god of this world system which Adam gave him the right to rule the planet when he sinned. Although God use evilbeings or Devils to bring His good will to past He did not and does not create evil. James 1:13 tells us that our God cannot be tempted with evil and doesn 't tempt any man. James 1:17 tells us that every good and perfect gift or thing is from above they comes from the father of light. 2 Cor. 4:4 tells us that Satan control this world evil system Proverbs 16:4 tells niv tells us that God Jehovah works out everything to his own ends-even the wicked for the day of disaster. God bless us and our understanding of His Word. Amen.

  • Mary Pew on James 1 - 9 years ago
James teaches us how to live. The 19th verse plainly explains what we know to be true now. In other words talk what you know not what y think you know. But let us all be willing to hear.
  • Ray ortiz on James 1:19 - 9 years ago
Good verse. fast to hear, slow to talk and slow to wrath.
  • MockingBird on James 1:19 - 9 years ago
I must be quick to hear and slow to speak : slow to wrath : I need to put a bit in my mouth at times. I sometimes think I speak out of wanting to tell my way instead of listening to others. If I am slow to speak then I understand that I will be slow to wrath to be very angry . I must : Stop : Look and : Listen to Holy Spirit within me. I am still learning to do this and probably will be learning to do this till I die or when Jesus returns.

  • Tony P. on James 5:16 - 9 years ago
Most people commenting on this verse fail to recognize the most fundamental premise of Biblical study application, and that is to "rightly divide the word of truth " per 2 Timothy 2:15. The Epistle Of James could not, for the most part, doctrinally apply to Christians in this present age of grace, because it implies salvation either by works or validated by them. It actually fits in better applied to believers in The Tribulation, see Revelation 12:17, 14 12 especially since it is addressed to Jewish believers, James 1:1. We find no where in the 13 certain Pauline Epistles, excluding Hebrews to appease those who have certain doubts, Paul The Apostle Of The Gentiles, see Romans 11:13, instructing us to anoint anyone for any reason. But I suppose if we were to grant that we could should anoint the sick, we should first observe a time of self examination, confession of personal faults these would be areas of inclined weaknesses, NOT SINS , and of course fervent effectual prayer. The only prayer that will save a lost Hell-bound sinner, is the one were he she admits their pitiful condition, and by faith receives The Lord Jesus Christ as their own personal Saviour. It has two distinct sides, repentance towards God for what you are and have done, and then faith in The Lord Jesus Christ for who He is and what He has done! See Acts 20:21. God speed.
