    A man can lead his life to the top of success, if he only follows verse 19. The verse is short but bears a significant meaning. Read it carefully once again.

    James 1 teaches me in spite what I am facing, to be unmovable in my faith and walk. That even without a job, or wife that I should not yield to temptation even if it shows up on my door step, I should have enough of God in me to walk away, for God will not tempt me.

    The parable of the pounds:
    1. Parables are used by Jesus as an object lesson using a physical to help Christians understand spiritual;
    2. Here are some clues to help in interpretation of this parable;
    3. The number 10 is the number of the gentiles;
    4. Pounds are England’s monetary unit;
    5. Monies are spiritual gifts given by the holy spirit at the time of salvation ( 1 Corinthians 12:4-11);
    6. The nobleman is the lord Jesus Christ;
    7. The far country is the world;
    8. The kingdom is the kingdom of God (church age);
    9. The servants are the born again saints that have been given spiritual gifts to use in the church age;
    10. The usury are rewards earned by the Christians that put their spiritual gifts into action ( James 1:22-25, 2 John 8);
    11. The return of the nobleman in verse 15 is the rapture of the church and the Christians will stand before Jesus to give an account at judgment seat of Christ ( 2 Corinthians 5:10 and Romans 14:10) of their faithful works in the kingdom of God, according to their obedience to the holy scriptures ( 1 Corinthians 3:11-15);
    12. The judgment seat of Christ takes place during the tribulation period while the wrath of God is being poured out upon earth found in the book of Revelation chapters 4 to 19.

    @Brother,
    On verse 18,
    1. I agree with what Timothy had to say in response to Brother on his marriage situation, but there is more Timothy should be doing beside praying;
    2. It is difficult giving relationship advice without being able to sit down and talk with both parties involved;
    3. God always has solutions to every situation, but they are usually not so simple because of our sinful nature and after we have made decisions without proper biblical counseling with God and the man of God with the holy scriptures at the foundation of our decisions;
    4. Are you and your wife both saved?
    5. Do you both attend and participate in a good bible believing church?
    6. Are you doing those things that God commands us to do that put us in a right relationship and good standing with him?
    7. Although our mates have a large influence on our lives and how we are able to serve God, but our mates should not have that much influence on us that it holds us back from our spiritual growth and fellowship with God ( 1 Corinthians 7 and Ephesians 5:21-33);
    8. We as Christians should never allow anyone to have such a strong hold on us to keep us from doing right and being diligent in seeking him. ( 1 Corinthians 7:29 and Hebrews 11:6);
    9. The better our relationship, fellowship, and obedience to God's holy word the better position we place ourselves in having God answering our prayers and working in our favor;
    10. We have a much better opportunity in winning others to our side (God’s side) when we love God verbally, but also when we especially love God with our actions;
    11. People always tend to watch our actions over our speech ( James 1:22-25);
    12. I do not know what kind of a relationship Peter had with his wife, but it apparently did not stop him from doing what God wanted him to do!

    Verse 5 was the critical verse that led a young man to ask of God, and because of it, he came to receive revelation that is spreading throughout the world. That was the beginning of the Later Days Saints (Mormon) church.

    Counting it all joy when you go through trials, test, and temptations. And it seems like everything has come against you and you still praise God and give him the glory in the mist of all that. That’s a blessing.

    @Brad Holland,
    To study the differences between the King James Version 1611 (authorized version) and the other versions is something you should do with diligence ( Hebrews 11:6; 2 Timothy 2:15) and I believe you will conclude that the King James Version 1611 (authorized version) is the only inspired word of God as I have. As for the vulgate text it is from the Alexandria manuscripts (Egypt) Latin based that the catholic church uses for their version translated by origen and others that is proven to be corrupt by most honest and true bible translators. The King James Version 1611 (authorized version) is translated from the manuscripts of Antioch ( Acts 11:26) (Textus Receptus) where you will find that most honest and true translators conclude to be correct. As for the original text there are no original texts and when someone can produce them I might start altering my thinking on this subject. God is never to concern about the originals, see what god does with originals and how he preserves his word ( Exodus 32:19, Exodus 34:1; Psalms 12:6,7; Matthew 24:35; Peter 1:19) more original writings ( Jeremiah 30:1, Jeremiah 36:27, 28, 32). God has preserved his word in the King James Version 1611 (authorized version). When a person comes to conclusion that all versions are of God they have not studied the scriptures with diligence. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways ( James 1:8). There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end there of is the ways of death ( Proverbs 14:12; 2 Timothy 2:15).

    @Chris,
    1 John 1:5 says “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” So God is not the author of bad things.
    But as people in the Old Testament had very little knowledge Satan, who is the author of evil, they attributed all; and the good, and the bad to God. And that is a Figure of Speech (way of expressing an idea that may be different from its literal meaning). And the Figure of Speech is called Idiom of Permission.
    That Idiom is found in places like Matthew 6:13 where it says “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.‘’ Which would literally mean God may lead us into temptation; which the Bible denies God would do in James 1:13, as it says “Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:”
    In fact the devil is responsible for all evil, and Jesus Christ made him known to the public (Church), Colossians 2:15. Satan can no more hide.
    God bless you.

    In my devotion this morning, I read the story of a duckling that was hatched and the first things he saw was an old dog. Naturally, the duckling figured that he must be a dog and took on the attributes and actions of the dog. Here in James, I'm seeing the importance of acting and being what you are. If you are a born again Christian, assume the role. Don't just be a hearer of the word of God, but be a doer. We as believers in Christ have to realize that as we go through our daily activities, we are the only bible that those around us read. We have to look and act like Christ. We cannot be born in Christ and act the role of Satan. We cannot be born a duck and act like a dog. We have to be a duck. It is so very important to live our testimony each day before others, so that they will see Christ through us. It is our duty and responsibility to portray Christ each and every day. Be a doer of the word and not an hearer only. God loves you. God bless.

    Happy people endure temptation, and when their trial is over, they shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to all who love Him. God does not tempt us with evil, but He does test us to do good. Just as God tested Abraham to sacrifice Isaac, and when Abraham obeyed God, the ram was provided for an offering. So it is with us, as we count it all joy with the various trials that we go through, God provides the way of escape so that we can be more patient complete Christians. Therefore we must do the word of God, and not hear only. The blessing comes when we obey what God has told us to do. Helping the fatherless, widows, and keeping from being spotted by this world, we receive the salvation that is promised.

    Verses 2, 3 and 4, God wants us to step up to a higher spiritual plane in him through temptations. We learn God will see us through. Having Patience is relying, trusting and knowing God will see us through. Draw close to him.

    This section of the bible is great, and easy to read and understand. I'm looking forward to get one for my classes on Sundays. It's easy to follow, a great bible to have, and use as references to teach others the true, as found in the King James Version.

    What does the word perfect mean in scripture? But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it--he will be blessed in what he does.( James 1:25). Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." ( Matthew 19:21) Does the perfect here means something different than the perfect used in 1st Corinthians 13:10? What is the perfect law of liberty? What was Jesus referencing when he told the rich young ruler if thou would be perfect go sell all that you have and come follow me. Could perfect mean complete? I'm just saying! Sometimes we make things more difficult than they should be! My feeling or my opinion is fruitless when it comes to the word of God. Solomon said in Proverbs 16:25 "There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." In Matthew 7:24 Jesus said these words "Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock." The Hebrew writer said in Hebrews 5:8-9 Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation,

    Hear ( Mt 7:24), believe ( Jn 8:24) repent ( Lk 13:3,5) confess ( Acts 8:37) and be baptized for the remission of your sins, ( Acts 2:38, 8:12, acts 22:16)

  • Kwagala Sarah on James 1 - 12 years ago
    James encourages us to Stand with the Word in humility, by being good listeners, hearer and dowers of the Word of God. It awakens us, to tame our tongue,I believe if that enemy called tongue is tamed, then we shall overcome all the temptations that come our ways. Jesus did it all, its our obligation to accept it and take it. Brethren we are more than conquerors in Christ Jesus.
  • Jonathan craig bailey on James 1 - 12 years ago
    we are all tempted, being tempted is not wrong and will not lead to sin UNLESS, we are drawn away by the lust of our own [not no one else]and enticed, we must crucify the flesh and die daily ..
