Faith without works is dead. Up to six months ago I lived a life of hypocritical Faith . After a serious accident, The Holy Spirit has dealt severely with me. As a teacher and minister the works I did were counted as dirty rags, because of hypocritical Faith. Always thank God for His chastisment....it means He loves you.Thank the merciful God of second chances. Allow Him to open your eyes now.

Verse 9: This verse is showing that if one is showing favoritism this is considered a sin to God.

Faith is action, not just talk but walk also, the Christian life is not fake or phony. a person can fool other people but you can not fool the All Mighty God.

Tamar; Faith without works, action, a conduct and course in life reflecting the word and grace put in the heart by God; faith without works is like a dead corpse. It is the spirit that animates the body with life; and so the body functions and continually works to maintain and support its life, but the spirit is the life. Thank you for your post! We are so blessed to have the Word of God!
  • Tamar on James 2 - 7 years ago
I love the last verse faith without works is dead like a dead body when the spirit leaves it it's very important to have working faith in God amen.

Amen Sister; Its interesting too, that when we aren't in such a hurry to let everyone know everything we stand for as a Christian; that the Holy Spirit is well able to convict others by seeing our Christian conduct and character, without preaching! Then, when we do get a chance to speak with them, the Lord can freely speak through us because we have proven trustworthy in QUIETLY WALKING IN TRUTH.

I have read this chapter before, but today, it has new meaning for me. I can see that I have been too judgmental in my thinking. If we profess faith, it should inspire love and a desire to do good to others. Our faith should be apparent in our walk even without an outward profession. faith and works together make a complete Christian.

Norlan: it takes works to remain saved NOT just to believe in Jesus it is to believe his word and faith without works is dead. Big deal you believe in Jesus or God so does the devil James 2:19. An athlete strives to be the best, we have to strive as well. Jesus told us to strive to enter in. James 2:26] For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

James 2:14-16 14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, 16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body what doth it profit?
  • Donna Cromb on James 2 - 7 years ago
Verse 14: I had to think on faith without works and was led to the realization that he's talking about obedience! Saying I believe isn't enough, surrendering the will to God and obeying His will is true faith. For instance He said repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, yet some still think I few sprinkles as an infant will save them, or going to church Sunday and still sinning is ok.

Edna, James 2:21 "Abraham our father justified by works." Galations 3:11 "Not justified by the law." Under the umbrella of Salvation we are justified by works, and justified not by works. I am not disputing against Galations 3:11. I consider the whole counsel of the Lord. Ro.14:22 "Happy is he that condemneth not himself in the things God allows" Allowing men to be justified by works and not.
  • Lu2677 on James 2 - 7 years ago
James 2:23 "And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: And he was called the Friend of God." For the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also." Be not hearers only of the word, but doers also. The righteous, the faithful, those that have the love of the truth are His friends. Amen

A reminder that we can forget to walk by faith instead of sight and to always guard your heart and know that god is love . And as a man thinks so is he. Perfect love cast out all fear. Character is developed when you do for someone that can never pay you back
  • A disciple on James 2 - 7 years ago
24 "Ye see that a man is justified of works, and not of faith only." By our works, our practice and doing, our course in life; is our faith made perfect, completed, fulfilled. Like we know it is an Apple Tree because there are apples on it; so we know our calling and election of God because the effects of His mercy and grace wrought in our heart are reflected in our way of life, and our character.

Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

In verse 26 'faith' and 'work' are complementary its like vichle and petrol in which if one of them is missing then the other like vichle is useless so its like faith and work are complementary

G-W: Helping others in need is a good thing, but stealing from God is not! Malachi 3:8-11. Helping others usually gives a warm fuzzy feeling, are we again taken something that's not ours? A tithe, the glory,a lie:using money or things that belong to someone else is not us helping the needy.
Sin upon sin will it ever end? Thanks be to God. 1 John1:6-9,2:1. (All of 1 John) the best help "salvation"

God said the poor we will have always. Therefore we will always be able to work with them. Jesus was with the poor. Most of us a 2 income away from feeling provertity. When I drive by them I give them food breakfast bars. Dollar store gloves, hats soap, We can use the 10 per cent we are to give to God. The nursing homes are full of lonley people. Children suffer from broken homes. Lite shine

I really so love this scripture and or helps me to get on with my day and it helps me to remain on thinking that if I want something to happen that u have not to just believe, but to also put forth the work after it.

FAITH IS A GIFT FROM GOD AND IT COMES ONLY BY HEARING THE WORD OF GOD. WITHOUT HEARING AND MEDITATING HIS WORDS ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO PLEASE HIM. IF YOU ARE A BELIEVER IN CHRIST AND HIS WORDS YOU MUST BE A DOER ALSO. THRU OBEDIENCE TO HIS WORDS IT CAN SAVE OUR SOUL. LIKE JESUS HAS A PERFECT OBEDIENCE TO OUR FATHER AND TO HIS WORDS BY FULFILLING THE SCRIPTURES . LET OUR BODY BE HOLY FOR GOD IS HOLY.

  • Eric on James 2 - 8 years ago
The Gospel of God cometh only from God, our Father which art in heaven. Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: Father, the hour is come glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. The mercy of man is toward his neighbour but the mercy of the Lord is upon all flesh: he reproveth, and nurtureth, and teacheth and bringeth again, as a shepherd his flock. Let the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation, And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.
  • Eric on James 2 - 8 years ago
All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds. Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. For God made not death: neither hath he pleasure in the destruction of the living. For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye. For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him. The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
