"He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered." Joseph would have no need to seek permission to be buried in his own tomb. He walked an extra mile to revere the body of of his master. He was a believer with firm conviction. His action was similar to Mary who anointed the body of Jesus in preparation for burial.
The Spirit has in so many ways and in several instances what anyone did good because the word bore fruit in them. 'This seed in itself' (Ge.1:11) in the process brings the glory that Moses sought to the pit from which all saints in light owe, to use a mathematical term, their locus for their everlasting life.
"Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness, ye that seek theLord: look unto the rock whence ye are hewn, and to the hole of the pit whence ye are digged."(Is.51:1). Isaiah refers the natural man, who is earthy to have been dug up from a hole; on the hand whoever is created new in his Son is said to be hewn from the rock.
"And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground:(Ge.1:7) Flesh and blood shall not inherit the kingdom of heaven. So their locus is entirely different. Dust to dust and ashes to ashes is their testament. For those who are buried with Jesus in faith and abides with him the pit carries yet another inscription on their headstone:"And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God."( Job 19:26).
59 And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
60 And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.
hello, I would like to get back to posting on the attributes of God_ for "R" I choose REDEEMER
Both in the OT and NT God is spoken of as our Redeemer- one who rescues, ransoms, or makes payment to deliver someone from condemnation, death, evil, sin, slavery, bondage.
Job 19:25 -The LORD is Job's Redeemer
Ps. 19:14 -the LORD is David's Redeemer
Is. 48:17 - the holy One of Israel is Redeemer
Hosea 13:14 from death
Ps. 49:15 from the grave
Rom. 3:24 -redemption came through Jesus Christ
Rom 8:23 Jesus redeems our bodies
1 Cor. 1:30- Jesus is our righteousness, holiness and Redeemer
Eph 1:7 -Jesus paid our ransom with his blood to redeem us
Col. 1:14-in Christ Jesus we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins
Heb 9:12- In Jesus we have eternal redemption
Lk. 1:68 -redeemed his people
Gal 3:13; 4:5-from the curse of the law
Titus 2:14 - from wickedness
We know that Scriptures clearly say that God is our Redeemer in the OT and NT.
How great it is that Jesus, (the eternal Word) became flesh to be the perfect Kinsman Redeemer for us-a human man to live a perfect life which He (as God in the flesh) could only do, and to give His infinite and invaluable life as the payment for our sins. The Father gave His Son, the Word, Jesus, for us in the incarnation, the Holy One, to ransom us from the domain of sin, hell, and the grave and bring us into His glorious Eternal Divine Kingdom.
The Holy Spirit regenerates us with the power that raised Jesus from the dead to come to faith in Jesus that we may be saved and inherit what God has determined for us to receive due to the everlasting covenant made within the Godhead before ANYTHING was created.
All praise and worship we bring rightly to the Father, the Son, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit Whom together in unity did all that the will of God determined was to be the terms of our redemption. There has never been a perfect man in all of history. Man is unable to live a perfect life. But God become flesh alone could.
A wise deacon in our church has stated that we are in enemy territory currently on earth. Our state prior to salvation was an enemy of God as we were blinded by the god of this world to do his bidding ( 2 Cor. 4:4). Despite what may be assumed by some; there are numerous descriptions of hell in the Old Testament. There are also references to heaven and the Millennial reign of saints ( Psalm 61 seems to be a veiled reference to David in that capacity; for instance). We see also in the famous passage in Job 19:27 which alludes to a bodily resurrection where he will see God. Psalm 63:9 is another reference to hell; in sending enemies to the "lowest parts of the earth." As much as we may not comprehend these eternal truths; Proverbs 8:36 states that "all who hate me love death." (see also John 3:19-21 and 1 John 2:11).
Jesus makes it clear that He is the only way to salvation in John 10:9 and many other passages state the same thing; often in parables. Those who are not enlightened to this truth often have some scripture knowledge, but they can only see general statements about living a righteous life or see descriptions of God and only see God from afar; much as the Israelites did when wandering through the wilderness. Somehow man's myopic perspective focuses on characters in the Bible and considers those who were a prophet; or a "good teacher" and not understanding who is truly good; that is God alone ( Mark 10:18). This is why the man called Christ good in that passage; he was only seeing Him through human lenses rather than His true position as God in the flesh which only God Himself can reveal to someone ( Matt. 16:17).
These truths explain why man underplays his spiritual condition; he sees outer works and judges himself on them; and that based on his own set of scales weighing in his heart the "good vs. the bad"; ignoring God's perfect Holy standard. Worse still; he is blind to his sin NATURE which can only be changed God's way
There is much in this chapter, your question is God in this verse the Godhead or the Father?
To answer; in context Jesus was telling parables and the Pharisees, and the Sadducees were trying to trip Jesus up. These verses were about the resurrection, the Pharisees believed in the resurrection, but the Sadducees did not. In verse 31 Jesus asked them haven't you read; Job 19:25-27 Psalm 17:15Psalm 49:15 "which was spoken unto you by God" so Jesus is referring to His Father who is God.
What does the word Godhead mean? Does it mean a Triune God? It is in three verses, Acts 17:29Rom. 1:20Col. 2:9. Translated from Greek words which means divine, divinity, or deity, that was replaced with another English word that was not a word until the 1500s and placed only in these three verses and the reason is questionable.
Study for your conscience in prayer with an open mind and through the Holy Spirit, God will show you the truth.
We have all come another day closer to the return of Christ. Isaiah 51:6 and other verses in Psalms refer to the earth waxing old like a garment; but as Job said there will be a resurrection and we shall see Him in our own flesh ( Job 19:26 and surrounding verses). The suffering of the saints which is part of God's purging process in our own lives will come to an end; certainly if Paul with the immense suffering promised him in Acts 9:16 could state that sufferings now are no comparison to what is to come ( Romans 8:18) heaven is too wonderful for words.
Whatever is left will be restored during the Millennium so that people can live fulfilled long lives in a peaceful existence. The earth will produce its fruit in abundance and Satan will be restrained. Only this will bring about the end of war ( Isaiah 2:4).
I will be the first to admit; and I doubt that I'm the only one that it seems almost a cruel joke to hold on to such hope; especially in regard to the Rapture which was rather obsessed over in the 1970s and 1980s and today hardly discussed in traditional church settings. We have come to a point where it is not discussed in church; but there are numerous online sites which are pretty much obsessed with the topic and endless dreams and visions that individuals are supposed to have had on the issue. It is hard to imagine just how great it will be not to have Satan and his emissaries like a spider with tentacles removed from what is now a chokehold on almost everything in the world today. Nonetheless we have a cloud of witnesses ( Heb. 12:1) which are of every saint who has died since the time of Christ and in fact some are the "first of the firstfruits" as it were of the O.T. saints resurrected in Matthew 27:52 and 53.
To imagine society without the violence and lawlessness of today is a stretch. When Christ comes to rule with a rod of iron He will also be just (see Isaiah 11:3 and other verses). Today may He reign in our hearts.
There is no contradiction, we see in Exodus 33:20-23 God told Moses he cannot see my face and no man can see me and live, so God showed Moses His backside, that is the closest any person has come to seeing God. Matt. 5:8 Jesus says those pure in heart meaning those who are amongst the saints/saved will see God. Job knew this as he says in Job 19:26, his glorified flesh/body.
We have our confirmation in Revelation 22:3-4 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: 4 And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.
We will see God's face and the Lamb/Jesus for they will be the light and the temple of the new earth and the new Jerusalem, Revelation 21:22-23.
Romans 5:9 Much more then, being NOW JUSTIFIED by his blood, we shall be saved FROM WRATH through HIM.
Psalms 88:16 Thy (the Father's) WRATH has gone over ME (Christ); thy (the Father's terrors have cut ME (Christ) off.
Job 19:11 He (the Father) hath kindled HIS WRATH against ME (Christ), he (the Father) counteth ME (Christ) as one of his enemies.
Isaiah 53:10 It pleased the LORD to bruise HIM, he hath put him to grief: when thou shall make HIS soul an OFFERING for SIN....
The wrath of GOD that all creation deserved was POURED OUT, by his Father, on Christ.
Christ is telling his disciples what is going to occur in a few hours:
Matthew 24:21 For then shall be great tribulation (all the wrath of GOD poured out on Christ)), such as was not from the beginning of the world To THIS TIME, nor shall ever be (again).
Matthew 24:21 And except those DAYS (of the great tribulation, the wrath of God on his SON) BE SHORTENED (Pilate SAID, is he so SOON be dead), there shall no flesh BE SAVED (all creation was saved by the great tribulation of Christ).
If you want more scriptures I will give them to you.
Yes, JESUS is our Kinsman redeemer. But according to the Word of GOD, there is a great mystery.
There are actually two redeemers: the main Redeemer and a secondary or subordinate redeemer.
The main Redeemer ( Ruth 4:4) is a Jew -JESUS- of course. Who is the other secondary redeemer or subordinate to the main redeemer, as revealed in Ruth chapter 4? And what is the inheritance of each of the redeemers? By the way, the secondary redeemer told the chief Redeemer-JESUS: What day thou buyest the field of the hand of Naomi, thou must buy it also of Ruth the Moabitess,... And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I mar MINE OWN inheritance: redeem thou MY RIGHT to thyself; for I cannot redeem it. Therefore the kinsman said unto the secondary redeemer, Buy it for thee. (Great mystery)
Job 19:25-29
25 I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the LATTER DAY upon the earth(that is the seventh and last Day or seventh and last milennium, the millennium of Christ and of the Judgment Seat of Christ)
26 And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see GOD:
27 Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another...
29 Be ye afraid of the Sword: for wrath bringeth the punishments of the Sword, that ye may know there is a Judgment.
Revelation 11:18 - 18 And the NATIONS were (will be) angry, and thy wrath is come(GOD's wrath comes), and the time of the dead, that they should be Judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest DESTROY them which destroy the earth. (This prophecy will fulfill LITERALLY from now on. Get ready you all)
I did know that dispensationalists use the passage in 2 Thessalonians for as proof for the rapture doctrine. I just say that I believe it describes Jesus' second coming at the end of the tribulation.
I will say that I am convinced of my position on this just as you are. If I am dogmatic, then you are also, to be fair.
And lastly, I know you ask me to cite Scripture for my thinking. I would if I were beginning a thread on this topic, but Scriptures have been thrown around on this thread repeatedly. For me, when someone explains their belief on a topic, I take it up my self to search the Scriptures to see if what one says aligns with what God has revealed. I urge you and others to do the same. There are so many Scriptures that say that people will be raised on the "last day" and that Jesus returns after the tribulation.
John 6:39, 40, 44, 54; 11:24 are but a few. Also Job 19:25Matt. 24:29-31; Mark 13:24-27----therefore the rapture does not happen before the tribulation. All believers are gathered to Christ after the tribulation when they are either resurrected or translated into their glorified bodies.
For the believer, Jesus is our hope ( 1 Timothy 1:1), He is our peace ( Ephesians 2:14), He is the light of the world ( John 8:12), He is the good shepherd who gave His life for His sheep (All those who have surrendered their life to Him ( John 10:11), He is the head of the church ( Ephesians 1:22), He is the only one who sets us free from our sin ( John 8:36), He is our redeemer ( Job 19:25), He is the only atoning sacrifice for our sin ( 1 John 4:10), He is the Savior of those who receive Him ( Luke 2:11, John 1:12), He is the creator of all things ( Colossians 1:16-17, John 1:1-3), He is the word of God, and He is God ( John 1:1, Isaiah 9:6), He is our only way to salvation ( John 10:9, John 14:6).
There are many, many more descriptors in the Bible that tell us who Jesus is, but it would take many more posts to list them all.
I believe therefore have I spoken I was greatly afflicted i said in my haste All men are liars what shall i render unto the lord for all his benefits towards me Amen
John 18 and 19 The predestined plan of God-crucifixion and atonement
Rather than detailing each event in separate chapters; I am making some general points here.
It doesn't seem fitting to do a forensic analysis of the details of the horrors of crucifixion in studying this subject; but instead doing a broad based approach to the events which played out in the time when Christ voluntarily laid down His life. ( John 10:18).
In regard to Judas Iscariot; of course he was the predestined son of perdition prophesied in Psalm 41:9. There were curses to be on his descendants as well. As to Pilate; the discourse went down in chapter 18 where Christ plainly told him that all who are of the truth hear His voice ( John 18:37). His response "what is truth" in the next verse clearly shows he remained in darkness; albeit his sin wasn't to be as great as the others who brought Him to Pilate.
We also; of course see how Christ's statement to Peter came to pass. We can sort of call prophecy predestination in a way; unless it is based on conditional factors. Jesus knew Peter couldn't stand in his own strength; but was already preparing him for when he had a change of heart. Several prophecies are in chapter 19 along with the one in the other gospels where He asks why God foresook Him taken from Psalm 22.
This most important event in human history allows us to be with Him in heaven eternally.
That is the central message that should be in our minds as to the certainty that God's plan and will are accomplished. This calls for praise and a humble and contrite spirit as Psalm 51 indicates. Psalm 110:3 shows "we shall be made willing in the day of thy power..." and seems to reflect sentiments as Job 19:25 and Isaiah 26:19 on the Resurrection
This is an amazing example of the hope of bodily resurrection that some Old Testament believers had. It is one of my favorite verses of Scripture because it states to me that no matter what my present circumstances, good and blessed like Abraham or tested and afflicted like Job, we have this hope of a future bodily resurrection because our Savior, Jesus Christ lives! And in the end He will reign on the earth! And with my eyes I will see God, though I have died and my flesh has once decayed! I can know that death has no victory over me and cannot hold me forever, because Jesus conquered the grave. The enemy has no claim on me, because Jesus despoiled him and his evil intents towards me!
Thank you for bringing this verse to remembrance. I was just thinking of it last night!

There are great truths here in Job; proported to be the oldest narrative in scripture; largely held to be written by Moses. The subject of the afterlife is in great detail here. The perspective of the soul leaving the body after death (v. 10); and the concept of sheol are mentioned. In his compromised state; Job is convinced; it seems that he has no hope as those who would go to the place of torment; it would seem. In reality; since he was a man of God he would be where Lazarus went; a place of comfort or "Abraham's bosom" in the paradise section. Instead; Job sees his transgressions as it were sealed up (v. 17); and his flesh having pain; and his soul within him mourn AFTER death; it would appear after he is "sent away" v. 20. This looks much like the land of darkness and chaos in Job 12:25; and verse 24 is much like Ezekiel in description of the kings in the underworld as well. Verse 14 and 15 give a hope of his "change" and for the wrath to be past in v. 13 is similar to Daniel speaking of the Resurrection after the time of Jacob's trouble. Whether the O.T. saints are resurrected after the rapture of the church; and such timing is too much to get into here.
Job later states that in his flesh; he shall see God ( Job 19:26).
In these passages; declarations of truth during unbearable suffering give a lesson for saints today to do the same. This also was the case when Christ was suffering before His glorious resurrection. Trust in God must override everything else; for He is faithful; even when we are not.
Hello, I've heard this interesting question before, but the Bible doesn't answer this anywhere to my knowledge.
I'm not sure we will even have physical bodies per se, but perhaps some kind of spiritual body that is permanent that may have a a physical representation. Job 19:26 indicates there could be a flesh component.
1 Corinthians 15:52 suggests that the body may be a new incorruptable form.
The dead will rise to meet Jesus. Since bodies generally turn back into dust in the ground, I think its logical that some kind of renewed body or spiritual body would contain us. I would assume we would all look our natural mature age as an adult and not a child or senior, but this isn't based on anything Biblical, just speculation. God bless.
I was just thinking about how much the Bible has influenced society and culture. Many phrases from movies, songs, people, places, and expressions originate from the Bible. So, I thought I'd list the ones I know of.
"Writing on the wall" from Daniel 5:5. I've heard this in many song lyrics, like Sam Smith, Ted Nugent
Lick (or bite) the dust?, Psalms 72:9. Queen?
These phrases I've heard various places in songs and TV, but can't think of where currently:
Skin of my teeth, Job 19:20.
Love of money is root of evil. 1 Timothy 6:10
Pride before a fall? Proverbs 16:18
A time for... Ecclesiastes 3. The Byrds - Turn! Turn! Turn!
I think so, too. One of my favorite verses is from Job where, in the midst of his losses, he state: For I know that my Redeemer lives, And He shall stand at last on the earth. And after my skin is destroyed, this I know, that in my flesh I shall see God, Whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another. How my heart yearns
Spiritual Warfare in Jobs life - In Reply on Job 19 - 3 years ago
We see Job kids partying often, and Job wasn't sure they were making proper sacrifices. He was being careful. It's not unrighteousness. We are to pray for our children as in Deuteronomy 28; teach them.
What we fail to see sometimes, Satan was lurking around, going to and fro. He spied Jobs fatherly concern. He used that against Job. He sorted up a storm (tornado?) and everything Job loved, was destroyed. His wife told him to curse God and die.
1 Peter Chapter 5
6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your ADVERSARY the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
All Job could do was to be still and wait upon God. Myself, it showed me that we are all stronger than we think sometimes. There's a peace when you have faith that God is at work in your situation. Keep your eyes on Jesus.
To rationalize all things that pertain to us can be misleading and, at times, even disastrous. Cause and effect in the natural realm of our existence doesn't always apply in the ways of God in our lives. Job's 'friends' may have been unsettled by the chance that Job hadn't done anything warranting his current state. There was no wrong done by Job to bring this about. God in His providence had allowed things events to occur. If that were the case then Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar were in jeopardy of being grossly mistaken in their responses to their associate. This proved to be the case in the end.
Without the Bible and prior to Jesus' earthly ministry, Job faced his dilemmas the best anyone could expect. Even in the midst of facing continued criticism from supposed allies. Thank you Job for endurance and patience and thank you God for allowing this book to be contained in your holy Word for our instruction and enlightenment!

God bless,

God Bless YOU!

The Living God, who is the Saviour of all men,
I did know that dispensationalists use the passage in 2 Thessalonians for as proof for the rapture doctrine.
Also Job 19:25 Matt.
James 1:5, Proverbs 25:2,
Hopefully these are helpful
Behold, all his fellows shall be ashamed: and the workmen, they are of men: let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; yet they shall fear, and they shall be ashamed together.

Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
2John 1:5-11, James 4:4-5, I'm reminded of 2Kings 20:12-18, Isaiah 39:1-7, Micah 7:5, Proverbs 19:4,= Job 19:14, Proverbs 14:20, Psalms 38:11,

Hopefully these are helpful for wisdom in your love & wisdom towards GOD, your friends & close friends
Turn! Turn!
Can anyone think of more?
I think so, too. One of my favorite verses is from Job where, in the midst of his losses, he state: For I know that my Redeemer lives, And He shall stand at last on the earth. And after my skin is destroyed, this I know, that in my flesh I shall see God, Whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another. How my heart yearns
within me!
Job 19:25-27
We in Christ share this same resurrection hope.
Job 19:17
Job 19:19
Job 42:14
There are only hints, I find. It appears she left/ abandoned him. Yet there is this one scripture:
Job 42:11
Hopefully this is helpful while you are searching for answers.
v17 "Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing: for God is my defence, and the God of my mercy."
Peace and comfort is a benefit I receive only from you. Let me be content in you. Thank you Lord. Make me to be satisfied only from your hand.
Job 19:25 "For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:"
Let us all stand firm in the Words of the Lord, the time draws near for our redemption. September 25, 2021
The story should be humbling to everyone
that reads it.
God bless you
Without the Bible and prior to Jesus' earthly ministry, Job faced his dilemmas the best anyone could expect. Even in the midst of facing continued criticism from supposed allies. Thank you Job for endurance and patience and thank you God for allowing this book to be contained in your holy Word for our instruction and enlightenment!
Job 19:25-27 (KJV) For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:
And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:
Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.
