Today as well as every day I am so happy that God thought enough of us to send his only son to this sinful world. Thank God that Jesus cared enough to go back and prepare a place for us, no matter how we treated him then and now. I repent again lord.

When we are obedient to His commands and keep them inside our hearts we shall receive the love and the favour, not only from Jesus, but from the father as well. in verse 6 Jesus says "..I am the way and the truth and the life.." and in verse 7, he confirms that what he has said in verse 6 last part. without knowing Him, you will never know the Father because you can only go to the father through Jesus (authority). Lets draw near to Jesus, let's love the one and only who paid for our sins and the father will manifest Himself to us..Amen

Martha & Lincoln, thank you for your comments. What I originally wondered can be seen by starting at the beginning of the Chapter & then reading the answer Jesus gives to Thomas: Does He mean that a man who comes unto the Father is WITH the Father? I believe the answer is yes, & that it really cannot be any clearer.
  • Lincoln on John 14:6 - 11 years ago
It really can not be any clearer, Jesus is the only way to Father God, you must accept Christ Jesus as your Lord and Saviour to have life (spiritual life) and this is a Spiritual Truth.
Without Christ as our Lord and Saviour we are subject to Satan and death (spiritual death)

@Larry...read 1 John 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

I believe this is telling us that Jesus is our intercessor. He bridges the gap between us and the Father!

I wonder if Jesus meant precisely what He said in verse 6? Does He mean that quite literally a person comes to the father only by Him, or to put it another way, when a person travels via Jesus that person comes into the presence of the father? Like, as in heaven? Is this what it says? If not, why not?

Not only did jesus say I am the way the truth and the life no man cometh to the father but by me. this lines up with John 10:9 where jesus says Im the door by me if any man enter he shell be saved and go in and out and find pasture. Also John 6:44, Mark 16:16,and Acts 2:38 So through his resurrection [JESUS] We live through baptism in the name of jesus christ we die to sin. Rom 6:6 Rom 14:7 Gal 2:20 And 2Cor 5:15 never forget Eph 5:2 therefor as 2Cor 2:14,15.

Yes it is true the Godhead is a mystery however in many scriptures Christ identifies Himself as God.
    John 14:8-9
8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us. 9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?

Revelation 22:13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.

Isaiah says it best of all.

Instead of believing the truth, accepting the truth, these elders would rather lie and save face not realizing that the truth would come out eventually. Actually, the Truth (Jesus) did come out. Even today, some people would rather tell, and believe a lie instead of accepting the truth. We have to always remember the scriptures (if we will), John 14:6 says Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. 2 Thessalonians 2:7-12, (7) For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. (8) And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of His mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of His coming: (9) Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, (10) And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they; might be saved. (11) And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: (12) That they all might be damned who believe not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

On verse 16, It breaks my heart when I hear people repeat like “broken records”, texts or ideas from the Bible without making the slightest effort to understand what the author is saying. The myopic approach to certain issues of the Holy Writ is dangerous and can lead to destruction. Now, I realize that most of them are sincere and they mean well; however they are still mislead. Here is the case in point: In the letter (all six chapters = one letter) to the churches in Galatia, Apostle Paul is dealing with the controversial issue of circumcision. Methodically, he is explaining to the new believers why they don’t need to be circumcised in order to be saved. In verse 16 he declares: “KNOWING THAT A MAN IS NOT JUSTIFIED BY THE WORKS OF THE LAW, BUT BY THE FAITH OF JESUS CHRIST, EVEN WE HAVE BELIEVED IN JESUS CHRIST, THAT WE MIGHT BE JUSTIFIED BY THE FAITH OF CHRIST, AND NOT BY THE WORKS OF THE LAW: FOR BY THE WORKS OF THE LAW SHALL NO FLESH BE JUSTIFIED.” This is a true and very important statement: Salvation is God’s gift to anyone who accepts it. It is free and based on Christ’s sacrifice and merits only. So, what does that statement mean? First, it means that no matter how strict or faithful toward keeping any law, IT WILL NOT get you into the Kingdom of God. Secondly, within the context of Paul’s letter, it means that circumcision (in the flesh), which was part of the “Ceremonial Law” (fulfilled by Christ, and no longer required to be observed), is not a prerequisite to be saved, nor to become part of “the chosen people” or spiritual Israel. Galatians 3, states: “26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 AND IF YE BE CHRIST'S, THEN ARE YE ABRAHAM'S SEED, AND HEIRS ACCORDING TO THE PROMISE.” Thirdly, and just as important, that statement does not give us a free pass to sin, just because Christ died, and we are under GRACE. In other words: We have no right to trample the Moral Law or “the Ten Commandments” under our feet, under the pretext that we don’t want to be “under the curse of the Law”. Most Christians have no problem admitting that keeping at least nine of the Ten, it is OK… So they say: “not stealing from me it’s desirable, you should keep that commandment; and no, I wouldn’t want you to fool-around with my wife: that seventh commandment it’s very important!” Or, “Do you want to kill me? Oh no, that’s breaking the sixth one: don’t even think of that!” And so on, with commandment number 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10. So far you are safe: if you keep just those nine you are not under “the curse of the Law”! But the moment you mention the fourth commandment they cry: “LEGALISM”, down with that Jewish Sabbath! You are under the curse… So they take away the only commandment that says “Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it holy” and tell everyone to “Forget it!” or they say: “Oh no, we keep Sunday (the Day of the Sun) instead!” So, why do we need to keep the Ten Commandments? No, we don’t keep them in order to be saved, but rather, because we are saved. We do it out of respect for God, not to score “salvation points”. And every time we break one of them, we repent and ask God’s forgiveness, and, as Jesus bids us, we “go and sin no more”. But even if we do, as often as it happens, we go again through the same exercise: repent and ask God’s forgiveness “until seventy times seven” if needed ( Matthew 18:22), and “…He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” 1 John 1:9, until we are victorious over that sin. THIS IS GRACE: No condemnation (as the Law requires) but unmerited forgiveness! The Law is not abolished, but it facilitates GRACE. And so, we grow and mature as followers of Christ. But, if there is no Law, then there is no need for forgiveness, no need for repentance, no need for grace, and ultimately no need of Christ… Suppose now, just suppose that Apostle Paul is teaching here that we don’t need to keep The Commandments, any of them: Would you listen to him or to Jesus?! Here is what Jesus, our Savior is asking you and me: “IF YE LOVE ME, KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS”, John 14:15. But no, Apostle Paul would not dare to contradict his Savior and Master… as he had in the past. Not convinced yet? Here is another message from Jesus: “Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called THE LEAST in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called GREAT in the kingdom of heaven” Matthew 5:19. Yes, they’ll be called “the least” but they won’t be found within. Choose eternal life today: and be called GREAT in the kingdom of heaven!

It is his introduction to us, it shows he is unique above all, he is matchless in every way, and shares not his glory. It establishes him reasonably as God alone not part of a god dishonouring triune entity. He is our God, Creator, Statute giver worthy of us getting to know and worshipped: Jehovah God the Almighty. @Rob,
Regarding Colossians 2:16: “Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath days”. You say: “This is why we Christians do not keep the Sabbath, it is of the OLD covenant”. The “Old Covenant” contained the Ten Commandments written by God on two tables of stone. It included the forth, which begins with the words: “Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it holy”. Are you saying that “the New Covenant” written on our hearts would have only nine commandments? So, you are taking out the only commandment that says “Remember”, and tell me to forget it? Some Christians imply that under the “New Covenant” we don’t have to keep any commandments, because now we are under grace. That cannot be so. Here is what Apostle Paul says about the Law, in Romans 7:7: “What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law”. Verse 12: “Wherefore the law is holy and the commandment holy, and just, and good…” Jesus Himself declared: “If ye love me, keep my commandments”, John 14:15. Not only that, He bids us to: “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations… Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you…”, Matthew 28:19, 20. My conclusion is that the statement of Colossians 2:16 must mean something else.

    @Chrys,
As you need chapters to teach on how to be born again. You may want to start with John 3 which speaks about being born again. Also Hebrews which speaks about faith; 2 Corinthians 7:10 speaks about repentance. Acts 2:8, 10 which speaks of the water baptism in Jesus name and being filled with the precious gift of the Holy Ghost which is initially evidenced by speaking in other tongues as the Spirit of God gives utterance. This is positive proof that the Holy Ghost resides inside you. I pray that the Lord bless you as you teach on salvation and the importance of the water baptism in JESUS’ name. Acts 4:12 neither is there salvation in any other for there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved. Also in John 14:6, Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. I pray this helps.

Verses 12-14 have a heading spiritual immaturity in the New King James. The bible is clearly saying when we are saved and reborn, we have a lot to learn from the oracles of God also known as the torah or the Old Testament. So, anyone thinking that the new covenant did away with the 10 commandments needs to read Acts 21:24, John 10:15, 2 Timothy 3:15-16, 2 Peter 1:20, Mark 2:28, Mathew 7:21-23, Mark 7:6-9. At the time of the oracles or scriptures mentions, there was no New Testament. The only law nailed to the cross is Sacrificial and Ceremonial. The Moral Law (10 commandments) were written in stone because they are forever. John 14:10 says if ye love me keep my commandments. So why would he make them void after saying this? Would Jesus really say it's ok to have false gods? Kill, steal, commit adultery, bear false witness? That what doing away the OLD LAW means. The new covenant is no animal sacrifice or circumcision and other ceremonial law and tempering the moral laws and scriptural doctrine with love and compassion. Something the Pharisees lacked. That’s why he called their teaching bad leaven, or leaven to be avoided.

Looking for truths, What does Jesus the person we are to follow closely in footsteps have to say about it? ( John 14:28) “If YOU loved me, YOU would rejoice that I am going my way to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am.” It can’t be that they are equal with one saying the other is greater right? Matthew 26:39, “Going a little farther he [Jesus Christ] fell on his face and prayed, ‘My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt.’” (If the Father and the Son were not distinct individuals, such a prayer would have been meaningless. Jesus would have been praying to himself, and his will would of necessity have been the Father’s will). John 8:17, 18, “[Jesus answered the Jewish Pharisees:] In your law it is written that the testimony of two men is true; I bear witness to myself, and the Father who sent me bears witness to me.” (So, Jesus definitely spoke of himself as being an individual separate and distinct from the Father). Looking for truths, God’s name and who He is is huge! Jesus our teacher knew this and gave ALL credit to his Father Jehovah. Through Jehovah ALL things are possible, without Him nothing is possible. The translators of the New Testament translated without any desire to add human doctrines. They only wanted the truth. And even if God’s name did get in His book more than in the original, what would be better, knowing His name or taking His name out and not knowing His name? I think it’s better to let the Bible translate the Bible. What does all of it say . . . Romans 10:13, For “everyone who calls on the name of Jehovah will be saved.”

A strong thought here why would God talk to himself, Jesus was not crazy, God is not neither. He did not have a split personality. Jesus said the father is greater than I. Greater means plural more than one great greater. Please open your bible to John 14:28 and help me understand this reasoning that Jesus is his father first born. God and Jesus do not play games, they have no split personality sicknesses. John 5:36 he said the father sent him here. I am thinking Jesus said clearly his father sent him. God can do anything, God does not have to pretend he is Jesus and act like a split personality like a sibling. God and Jesus do not talk to themselves and confuse people. We must understand the devil knows the scriptures inside out. In John 20:17, Jesus was talking to a person there, Jesus does not lie. Jesus saith unto her touch me not for I am not yet ascended to my father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my father, and your father: and to my God, and your God. Does everyone think Jesus was crazy? Jesus told the people in John 14:10, Jesus said the father is in him and he is in the father, but here again Jesus says I speak not of myself: but the father that dwelleth in me. Jesus takes no credit for the things he did but said the father doeth the works, the holy spirit speaks, comes in people but they are not the holy spirit. I cover this message with the blood of Jesus. Amen.
  • Kevin on Psalms 83:18 - 11 years ago
Has anyone given any thought that Jehovah and Jesus may be two different persons? These scriptures are not understandable if they both are just one. ( John 14:28) . . .If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going my way to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am. ( Mark 13:32) “Concerning that day or the hour nobody knows, neither the angels in heaven nor the Son, but the Father. ( Luke 22:42) . . .“Father, if you wish, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, let, not my will, but yours take place.” (If they were one how can they have two wills)? ( John 5:30) I cannot do a single thing of my own initiative; just as I hear, I judge; and the judgment that I render is righteous, because I seek, not my own will, but the will of him that sent me. (Two very distinct persons here). In fact, the Bible is peppered with reasoning that Jehovah and Jesus are two very distinct persons). ( Mark 12:28-30) . . .“Which commandment is first of all?”
Verse 29, Jesus answered: “The first is, ‘Hear, O Israel, Jehovah our God is one Jehovah,
Verse 30, and you must love Jehovah your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind and with your whole strength.’
Removing Jehovah’s name from His book opened the door for the prophesied apostasy and it worked very well. Jehovah our Creator got lost in the doctrines of men.
  • Jman on John 14:6 - 11 years ago
Verse 6, if Jesus did not mean that, he would not have said it plainly and directly as so. It would then be phrased as "no one comes unto the Father except through Jesus." As the written word was not about what Jesus, written word was not what is meant, and is 'adding to' the message what is not there. It is about Christ within "me" to all who affirm the message of John 14:6. It is self evident logic. You read the word(s) of doctrine, you desire to have relationship with Christ, and you go within. Thus, you who are reading this can also say, and it is equally true, that Christ is the way, the truth and the life. No one comes unto the Father except through Me. Nothing added or changed. Truth revealed.

Obedience is the expression of true love. When you get married, you make a covenant with your spouse based on love. If you fail to keep that covenant, then you show that you did not love your spouse. Jesus is the Groom, and the Church is the bride. Jesus has made His covenant with the Church based on love by shedding His blood on the cross for our sins. He said a new commandment I give unto you, that you love one another as I have loved you. The commandments of God is completed by loving God with all thy heart, soul, mind, and strength. The second is to love thy neighbor as thyself. When we love others, we are keeping His commandments.
  • Malebo semosa on Genesis 1 - 11 years ago
This is the book that shows us the power of God, his spoken word and unity. In verse 3 God spoke creation and it became-completed-manifested. First He created the Light, so that darkness was eliminated. From verse 3 until verse 25 God speaks and it is done. And in verse 26, He SPEAKS first and then He MAKES in His own image with His own hands a creation named man. He said, let US make man in OUR image,... speaking to himself in other personalities, God the Son (Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit to make man, now we see unity coming in, meaning that in every making-building work concerning man unity is highly and importantly required. So for those who thought Jesus came in the New Testament will now be corrected in seeing that He is in the beginning, in fact He is the beginning in which God created the world (verse1). And the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God that was hovering upon the waters. He did not start to manifest only in acts chapter 2, He is in the beginning, it means inside, within the begin (Jesus). So God is one in three personalities; God the Father, the Son and the Holy spirit. He cannot be separated John 14:8-10, and therefore unity is exercised eternally. Man is the greatest creation of God because he is in the image of God, he has been given all the abilities, capabilities and responsibilities. So God speaks that which is not as if it were and it becomes instantly. That’s power.

  • Larry Busdriver on John 14:17 - 11 years ago
In the Fall of 1973, it was November, I think, I met some people in whom was the Spirit of the Living God. This was evidenced at first in that I could feel Him in their presence. God is Love. They gave thanks with joy at my dinner table and prayed in the Spirit. They told me, God inhabits praise. It's in the Book, read it for yourself! Some time after they had left, I was sitting on my bed reading in the gospel of John, chapter 14, wonderful things like, "I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever..." When I got down to the 17th verse, "Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you." Then I realized this is what the whole world needed to solve all its problems, if only they could see... and I realized this is what I had been seeking my whole life, and I thanked God and began to praise Him with my whole heart, and the Spirit of Truth fell on me as He must have from the beginning... It was wonderfully bright and felt like living water rushing through and through and I praised Him with other tongues I knew not. Neither did I suspect that this would happen to me in advance, but I had just met Jesus "who will baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire!" Later, on January 25, 1974, I was baptized in His name for the remission of my sins, meaning not only was I forgiven, but also that He had paid for it with His own blood. This was among my "first works" of faith after that I had received faith through the free grace of His Love. He also had said, "when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth"... "...he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him."!!!

    @Ramesha,
There is no evidence that there is any life on other galaxies. Jesus Christ did not come to save angels, he came to same men. And men are only found on earth and nowhere else. Of course his salvation shall also profit God’s angels, in that all angels of darkness that currently fight them shall be wiped away. But Jesus Christ only came to rescue man.
Thinking it should be unfair that all should be saved by him (alone) means we are fairer than God, Acts 4:12. Because that is of God.
    God bless you.
  • Ramesha on John 14:6 - 11 years ago
How can it be possible that in the whole universe, composed of what we now know to be billions of galaxies, which are certainly inhabited by who knows how many trillion of creatures, there was only one being through which God's grace could come??? What about those poor fellas born in galaxies so far away from earth as to be impossible for them to even have heard the name of Jesus? How could they be saved? The God I love could never be so unfair toward any of His creatures! Paramhansa Yogananda's interpretation above is the one that makes the most sense to me, and makes me think of God with love, rather than with fear.
