I am in a new country and cannot find someone to pray with me. I am so grateful to be reminded that Christ is praying for me. This chapter ( John 17) is such a joyful discovery to me. It does not matter if there are no praying people around me, Christ is lifting me through His prayers.

There are many god's and anti-christ's in the world : There is only one True God and that is Jesus Christ. Through Him we obtain eternal life : we will die in this life : but in all totality we are not dead , just our bodies die : When we are born again we never die !!! Isn't that totally AWESOME !!! Praise God for eternal life through Jesus Christ !!!!

2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? 1 John 4:2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come and even now already is it in the world. Titus 1:16 They profess that they know God but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

Hallelujah, knowing the true God and believing that the same God sent us Jesus Christ is eternal life, now the word says my people perish because of lack of knowledge meaning,if you dont know the true God and also believe in Him you will not have eternal life, therefore goes to the bottomless pit,wow Just knowing Him then i have eternal life,GLORY TO JESUS
  • Rsol on John 1 - 8 years ago
Only in the book of John is John referred to as the one that Jesus loved. John had an understanding of how much he was loved by Jesus and that's probably because he heard Him pray ( John 17:23). Peter professes his love for Christmas and then denies Him. John professes Christ's love for him. John gets it. Somewhere in Ephesians 3 I think it says to know this love and be established in it.

verse 3 says that knowing God and Jesus Christ brings life eternal. Also verse 22 says that we should be one as Jesus Christ and God are one. this calls for unity in the body of Christ. unity in Spirit.
my prayer is that God will make us one in Christ Jesus as He and God are one.

The same Greek word is used in John 17:5 that says," I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that Thou shouldest KEEP them from the evil." How ironic that Jesus is asking God to keep them on the earth, but GUARD them against the evil in the earth.

jesus christ i n chapter 17 is revealing his deity 17-3 just before he was
going to be nailed to a wooden cross for lost sinners to be pardoned for
there sin yet people today deny his deity, virgin birth and bodily resurrection
and subsitute mary as a mediatrix like the false roman catholic church and have
a blasphemis mass which crucifies jesus over again which is an abomination to GOD

i will say "Amen" to Mitch Withe's comment. He summarized beautifully what we believers mean to each other. And on that note, I offer up prayers to our brethren who are persecuted in other lands because they too believe.

I have read that Psalm so very many times and I dont remember seeing that particular verse the way I saw it this morning. Yes, it is true. My, my, my so many circumstances against me, obstacles, it was, is His hand. He has been calling me to come closer to Him. I have disobeyed, to put it simply. I love HIM so much, HE is magnificent, all powerful, all loving and all Holy and True. HE is Loving Just and True. He only ever calls us closer to Him. Not to punish but to give us opportunities to get to Know Him more and more and more. John 17:3 this is life eternal, to know God and His Son whom He sent" To know Him is to love Him. I confess undisplined flesh, I plead the Blood of the Lamb. Please continue to draw me Yahweh and we will run after you. After you have corrected me use me to draw multitudes to You. Oh Holy and most Perfect One. My dearest papa, my only treasure. Please forgive me and help me. I love you.

Jesus asked his father to watch over his disciples. He knew that they would face problems and temptations. It is the same way with Jesus followers today and we can be confident that Jesus and his father still care for us.
  • Nqobile Nkwanyana on John 17 - 9 years ago
Covered! Our lives, needs and all that concern us, as His own, is covered! I am made new by the reading of our Lords word everyday. Jesus prayed for me and His prayer is answered everyday in my life. How awesome to know that our Jesus, in His last hours on earth, still thought about our well being. I love Him more each day. Moreover, i love the fact that i am one with Jesus just as He is one with God- Our Father. Wow, me one with Jesus? Amazed!

  • Moses Obidike on John 17 - 9 years ago
John 17:4 is analogous to 2 Timothy 4:7 - testimony of a fulfilled calling or mission. John 17:5 confirms the divinity of Jesus, as in John 1:1 - that Jesus is God and has been in existence before the world was created. John 17 also teaches us that if we have received Christ, and we let His Word abide in us, we should be able to handle the trials and tribulations of life, and even overcome the enemy Luke 10:19 because His Word is spirit and His Spirit lives in us. Finally, the knowledge of Him and the presence of His Spirit in our lives guarantee us Eternal Life.
  • Mitch Withem on John 17:21 - 9 years ago
I believe God only sees two types of people on the earth. Those that know Him and those that don't know him. We that know Him truly have His Holy Spirit living within us. Because of His grace and Jesus sacrifice on the cross, we have God himself living within our spirits in this fleshly body. This transcends all the wall we have built and the labels and contentions over essentially trivial details of our different belief systems. If you know Jesus, you and I are one. We will never agree on everything. We both will never be totally correct in how we believe and worship, but when this flesh and our carnal minds are finally stripped away, what is left is pure. Just as God in the old testament called all men Adam, when he looks at us he sees Jesus.
  • Bruce on John 15:13 - 9 years ago
I believe this all about Jesus telling us that there exists no greater love that how He was gloried in His death and resurrection for us. Christ's glorified so that we may experience this is the best gift God could give us. Himself. Everything points to the glory of God. The fact that we can experience joy in knowing him this way is what I believe Jesus is telling us here. John 17:24 shows how Jesus' prayer was that He would glorify the Father by the means of Himself being gloried and we would be able to savor it for all time. By giving us this gift, God is revealing the greatest love of all-Himself. I buve John 15:13 is not about us but about Christ. About He was glorified and how we the joy in experience His glory. This is divine live for us.

The Name of the Father, Jesus said, I manifested thy name John 17:6 I declared thy name John 17:26 What name did he manifest declare. In my name ye shall. Mark 16:16-18. As he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent Name than the angels. Hebrews 1:4. We all inherit our names from our Father, but that name was kept secret in the old test. The angel of The Lord had that name in him. Ex. 23:21 My name is in him. Judges 13:18 seeing it is secret. Luke 1:31. The angel said thou shall call his name Jesus. Isaiah 12:2 Jehovah is become my salvation, which means Jesus. The mighty God. The Everlasting Father, his name is Jesus. Jesus said no man know who the Father is but the Son, and to whomever he will reveal him Math. 11:27. Pray the Son will give u revelation.

God 's word speaks for itself: Patience G5281 steadfastness, endurance, patience. The exact same Greek word used in Rev 13:10 and 14:12. Keep G5083 tereo to guard, to attend to carefully, to observe, to keep one in the state he is in. From G1537 Ek from, away from, out, with denoting the place of origin. Put this phrase together and Jesus is saying "because your faith has already endured and persevered and you haven 't denied my ance meaning they had been tempted to do so I will guard your faith during the hour of temptation trial great tribulation, to come upon and try the whole world. " Look at John 17:15 and you will see the exact same Greek phrase tereo ek. In that verse it 's obvious Jesus meant to protect his apostles while here on earth from the evil. He explicitly said he didn 't want to remove them. So the exact same Greek phrase has to be interpreted in the exact same way.
  • Thomas Spivey on John 17 - 9 years ago
Ask yourself one question, does the Father hear and answer Jesus when He prays? If so then you can rest in this knowlage. His prayer basically covers all who simply except and believe he is praying for you and not just you alone. This is the key to entering God 's Rest.BELIEVE IT!
  • Jacob on Acts 2 - 9 years ago
The reason that Jesus said if you have seen me you have seen the father is: Hebrews 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person. This text is speaking of The Lord Jesus Christ. He is not the Father. He says in John 10:30 I and my Father are one. But this doesn 't He is the Father. They are one in unity just as the believers are one in Him. We are one with each other but are not the same as each other and are not Him. John 17:11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that THEY MAY BE ONE, as WE are. Jesus is the image of God so He said John 12:45 And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me. They couldn 't see the Father without Jesus because he declared Him or made Him known. John 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. If there is no Godhead who were they seeing in the Old Testament? Exodus 6:2-3 And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD: And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty. If they were seeing God Almighty but it wasn 't the Father who was it? Hint. The preincarnate Christ.
  • Victor Stevens-Rosenberg on John 17:3 - 9 years ago
John 17:3 reveals a truth couched in simplicity, that, knowing Jesus is, the way, the truth and the life, and knowing 'about ' Jesus is not. Fans of Jesus know a lot about Him. I know Jesus personally as constant companion, the friend I worship. Knowing Jesus personally is how He transforms us on our walk through this life with Him. Matthew 7:23-24 is a companion scripture to John 17:3 because when we read Jesus telling the religious person, and I paraphrase, to get away from Him, that He never knew them, He is also saying to them, go away, you never knew Me. Shalom
