John 17 demonstrated to me that the earth is created for Good and Bad souls. God knows the weakness of mankind in this world and he loves us because he created us. In Jesus prayer in verse 9, it said, 'I pray for them that you have given to me because they are mine.I pray not for the world.
God sent his son to show us direction towards him and this is confession of Jesus's prayer to God.

Shadrack St. Mark 9:7 And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. We as men flesh and bone what joy can a father have more than the time he spends teaching his son?
St. John 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.(before the world was) This is an eternal relationship between a Father and his Son and for this very reason Jesus Christ is the Son; the Word of God.
St. Matt 7:29 For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
Josh. 5:15 And the captain of the LORD'S host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so. This is the Holy Ghost
St. Mark 13:11 But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost.
The Godhead is one purpose, one mind; but I believe this is what separates the Father the Way of God, which he teaches too his Son the Word of God, and the Holy Ghost who fulfills the Will of God.
Mark 13:32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
Rev. 5:1 And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals.
Rev. 5:5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.
Rev. 5:7 And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.

Gen 3:5For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
22And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
Adam was a child with freewill and was now handed a loaded gun and as a child he had no understanding of the power he held. 2And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
Being put out of the garden and having eaten of the tree of life Adam lived 930 years. To be a true part of heaven we haft to know what evil is and more importantly right from wrong. God knew what the devil had planned but had God stopped him, the devil would have spent the last 10,000 years or so cursed for something he didn’t actually do and we would have spent the time running around naked more like pets without the knowledge of good and evil. What the devil didn’t see was how God used him to give us the opportunity to be closer to him and even Jesus’s love for us was to call us his brother’s and sister’s and that’s an equality we tend to take as a grain of salt.
St. Matt 12:36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
St. John 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

    hi Delores,

The church of christ is also the church of God..

It is the church of christ because Jesus Christ himself build thischurch. But it isalso the church of God. God the fatheris also the God of Jesus Christ.

And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
    ( Mat 16:18)

"But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him."

    ( 1 Cor 8:6)
"And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent."

To: Mark Hudson: ...to the SECOND argument regarding to the missing the flames of hell... ...whosoever was "not found written in the book of life" was cast into the lake of fire ( Revelation 20:15) any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie ( Revelation 21:27) the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars ( Revelation 21:8) and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the "books", according to their "works" ( Revelation 20:12)... ...and this includes THEM WHO "DRAW BACK" UNTO PERDITION (Hebrew 10:36-39) who are called "LOST" ( John 17:12) For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them like the dog that turned to his own vomit again (2-Peter 2:21-22) whereunto they desire again to be in bondage ( Galatians 4:9)...THEREFORE...we must NOT BELIEVE the LIARS telling us that we shall not be judged when we TURNED BACK AND WERE LOST after we received the remission of our sins by the grace of God through the blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ...

The name of the child to be born shall be called The Almighty "God", The everlasting "Father" ( Isaiah 9:6)...the same name "was the Word" and "was with God" and "was God" in the beginning ( John 1:1-2) who "was made flesh" ( John 1:14)...and it was the "Word" of God ( Revelation 19:13)...which is "a name written, that no man knew, but he himself" ( Revelation 19:12)...and it was the "name of the Father" whom Jesus Christ manifested and declared to those whom he has chosen out of this world to KNOW him and his Father ( John 17:1-26)

To Ock:...that is a very BRILLIANT question... The AUTHORITY to SENT someone to PREACH the GOSPEL is in this wise:...from "GOD" who sent Jesus Christ ( John 17:8) with the "Spirit of the Lord" who anointed him to PREACH the GOSPEL to the poor( Luke 4:18-21)...THEN...from "our Lord Jesus Christ" who sent his disciples to PREACH the GOSPEL to "every creature" ( Mark 16:15)...THEN...from "apostles" who were commanded by our Lord Jesus Christ to teach "all nations" to observe ALL THINGS whatsoever he (Jesus) have commanded them (apostles) ( Matthew 28:19-20)...THEN...if YOU "heard the PREACHING of the GOSPEL" from "ANY CREATURE in ANY NATION" and "you believed it" and "you were baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost"...THEN...YOU are also being SENT to PREACH the GOSPEL...and has the authority to SENT those "who believed and were baptized" to PREACH the GOSPEL to every creature in all nations...and that is Romans 10:15 all about...
  • Rosalinasaysonkotapay on John 1 - 11 years ago
Marc:...I agree with you because we should KNOW KNOW WHO our LORD Jesus Christ really is...The Word "was" God and "was" made flesh ( John 1:1,14)...Let us NOT LIMIT ourselves in believing the "name of the FLESH" of our Lord Jesus Christ only...but also to believe his "name before he was made flesh" and accept the fact that he is NOT OF THIS WORLD ( John 17:1-26)...therefore it is true that "his flesh" did pray to the FATHER whenever he asked anything from HIM the same way as he taught us to do when we want to ask something through prayer from our God the Father ( Matthew 6:5-13)

(This is my response to Dom Di Stroia's comment 8/12/2013 at 4:47pm on Acts Chapter 9):

Our Lord Jesus Christ was saying upon "THIS ROCK" I will build "MY CHURCH" ( Matthew 16:18). That spiritual "ROCK" was "CHRIST" ( 1 Corinthians 10:4). Therefore, HE meant to say upon "MYSELF" I will build "MY CHURCH". That Church which He built is none other but the "HOUSE of GOD", which is the "CHURCH of the LIVING GOD", the "PILLAR and GROUND of the TRUTH" ( 1Timothy 3:15). That "TRUTH" is our "LORD JESUS CHRIST" ( John 14:6). That "TRUTH" is the "WORD" of GOD ( John 17:17). That "WORD" was "MADE FLESH" ( John 1:14). But "BEFORE" the "WORD" was "MADE FLESH" HE "was" "GOD" ( John 1:1). If you understand the greatness of the "MYSTERY" of His "GODLINESS" ( 1Timothy 3:16) therefore there is no doubt that you belong to the "CHURCH" that "JESUS CHRIST" built upon "HIMSELF" because you also believe the "TRUTH". It was written in In Colossians 3:1-2, "If ye then be "RISEN" with "CHRIST", seek those things which are "ABOVE", where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things "ABOVE", not on things on the earth.

(This is my respond to Jabulani's 1 John Chapter 4 comment about verse 2 on 9/05/2013, 10:16am):

These verse 1 John 4:2 means that Jesus came from spirit to dwell with us here on earth who are in flesh. In fact, this scenario was made clear in John 1:14 that says the "Word" was "made flesh", and dwelt among us. Therefore, it simply means that Jesus was "not" in the form of flesh "before" he was made flesh. He came out "from" God as it was written in John 17:8. That's why in John 1:1 it says in the beginning "was" the Word and the Word "was" with God and the Word "was" God. And the day he was born here on earth, that's the time he came out of this world in the form of "flesh". That flesh whom we called Jesus Christ was declared by God as His beloved Son. It is also mentioned in 1 Corinthians 15:50 that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. Therefore the Word was in the form of spirit before He was made flesh and was born here on earth in the form of flesh who was known to us as Our Lord Jesus Christ.

  • Igboanusi, Rachael on John 17 - 11 years ago
Each time i get to John 17, i am touched because i see it as past Jesus' last prayer for his disciples. He prayed this with a heavy heart. He prayer to God to uphold them and them as one. This means that the body of Christ ( the Church) should be one. But the church is divided. Let's come together in unity that we might be called the sons of God indeed.

Jesus words at John 10:30 have been clarified completely by John 17:22. Their oneness is by purpose and not by Godhead, as what the Scriptures completely described.

Jesus and his Father Jehovah God are one in purpose, as what he would like to reflect at John 10:30. This text stands also as a clarificatory context.

  • Rev. Autrey on John 17:1 - 11 years ago
This prayer has puzzled many Christians. We must remember that Jesus was a member of the Godhead. And his prayers were not like ours. Yes, they were in the form of prayers, but they were a continuation of the communication he had had with the Father before he became a man. And this communication continues now.

But we are who not members of the Godhead, must pray as he told us to pray: "There is no other name. ..." Abraham prayed this way. And so did the prophets. So did Stephen and Paul.

"And as they stoned him, Stephen prayed, 'Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.' And he fell to his knees, shouting, 'Lord (Jesus), don't charge them with sin! ( Acts 7:59).

Paul said this about his prayers to Jesus, "Three different times I begged the Lord (Jesus) to take it away. Each time he said, 'My gracious favor is all you need. ...'" ( 2 Corinthians 12:18)

    DELE DANIEL's & Idowu Isaiah A's:
In regards to your comments about Jesus and God being "ONE" You are absolutely correct in that Jesus said he and the Father are One.

But neither one of you quoted John 17:20 where Jesus stated: "that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me."

According to Jesus's own words all of his followers are ONE with him and with the Father. Does that mean that we are all GOD as well?

Same sex marriages? Is it the Lord’s way or man’s way? Let us look at Sound Doctrine Leviticus 16:22 “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.” God has put his standard and regulation when it comes to marriage, he simply talks about husband/wife relationship and has been clear when it comes to it. Many say God loves everyone and Many people try to justify that to lie with a man as a woman is really no problem, and they will try to get behind them heaven and earth to be able to legally get married. And yes it’s so true that God loves everyone; that is the whole reason he sent his Son Jesus Christ into this world John 3:16. But he also expects us first and most importantly to Know him and his Son, so we can get eternal life, not just chance his standard and end-up in hell. John 17:3.
  • Gloria Holder on John 17 - 11 years ago
First and foremost, Jesus declared that his disciples believed that He came out of the Father (God), and was sent by HIM. He prayed that they should be one (metaphorically, not literally), as He and the Father are one in purpose and design, therefore there is no three persons (in) one God, but three persons (of) one God.
  • Kevin on Psalms 83 - 11 years ago
If God and Jesus both always existed and are co-equal, then it would make no sense for the Bible to confusingly speak of God and Jesus in terms of a relationship between a father and his son. For what would we think of about ANY father and his son? If it weren't for the father, the son would not exist. Jesus is not God; he is exactly as the Bible describes him - the Son “OF” God. The word "son" principally is regarded in the Bible as "offspring" and in Genesis we read that Adam was produced by God. Interestingly, Adam and Jesus even shared the same description: "son of God", ( Luke 3:38). While the Father is always found in the Bible to be called "God", the phrase "God the Son" is never found. Further, if the Son really was God, then why would he call the Father "the only true God"? ( John 17:1-3). Jesus is God's "only-begotten" son; the only being directly created by God, ( John 1:18). Revelation 3:14 says that Jesus is "the Beginning of the creation of God", NASB. Colossians 1:15 says that Jesus is "the FIRSTBORN of all creation". Micah 5:2 says that Jesus' “ORIGIN” is from of old, from “ancient days” – RSV (cf. JB, NEB, REB, NAB, NIV, AT, Mo, NRSV, NJB, Byington, and Young's). Origin: "a coming into existence" - Webster's New World Dictionary, 1973. Therefore, because of the Bible's explanations of this, the designations "Father" and "Son" when attributed to God and Jesus make sense.

Since John 17:3, Philippians 3:8-10, Matthew 7:21-23, verse 9 covered by a thick cloud, Jeremiah 29:13 that the people might hear when I speak with you, and believe you forever. John 6:17-8; 8:12. Jesus marveled in Matthew 8:10. Is there a greater marvel elsewhere? Is the only disease (BELEVING A LIE) caused by either Deception, or Pride. 1 Corinthians 4:7 there is only One God Who cannot lie, Hebrews 13:8. Who says there are no absolutes? The statement is an absolute, humble unselfish FATHER already knows everything, and is the answer, yet humanity is so wrapped up in their shallow little plans they miss the mark. His Glory Revelation 4:11, Galatians 2:20-21, Genesis 15:1, Philippians 3:12 Came here to understand this veiled verse 19:13 but got sidetracked. Sound unfamiliar 2 Corinthians 3:18, Ephesians 4:13.
  • George on John 17 - 11 years ago
Greetings from God our Father and from our Lord Jesus the Christ of God. There are several things that our Lord Jesus wanted us to believe:
    1. to believe that God did send him,
    2. that He wanted us to be one with each other like He is One with God. Wait a minute, how can I invade my brothers body to be one, could it be that Jesus meant to be in (one accord) meaning no disagreements, to flow as if we are on? I believe that is exactly what He means. He came to do the perfect will of The Father and not His will. He always glorified God and not Himself, He wants all glory for His and our Father in this way He is glorified. Every word that Jesus said was the message that God wanted Him to deliver onto us. His plea was for us to believe that "He did send Me". It was the intent of God to put His Christ through the torment and punishment of the Cross for the sins of all man. Just think of the Love that our Father has for us that He would give His only Son to suffer and die for us. Father Abraham displayed a love that God loved in that Abraham proved obedience and love that God had not seen in other humans. That is what Jesus tells us that we should love God with everything about us above everything else, that is pleasing to Him. There is so much to write about but I will ask you, in that day when Jesus returns many will say "Lord we casted out devils and cured the sick in your name" and He answers and says to them" Get away from me, I never knew you! How is that possible if they did things in His name? Seek for the answer from a truly good friend, mine is Jesus the Anointed One of God. Have a beautiful life in Him.
