Hey Peggy - Hit youtube and type in CUP OF THE LORD
see what pops up. there are a number of times the cup of the Lord is in the Bible.
Psalms 116:13 I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the LORD.
Matthew 20:22 But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.
1 Corinthians 11:25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
Help time with John 3:16 - "For GOD so LOVED the world" - Who did GOD loved past tense ? Jacob Israelite's, refer to Psalms 47:4, Romans 9:13, Malachi 1:2, scripture is clear on that. Now the "world" - GOD calls the nation of Israelite's a world - refer John 18:20 and Isaiah 45:17-But Israel shall be saved in the LORD with an everlasting salvation:.....world without end. Candice is correct.
but when they came to force him to a cross, he offered himself for he came into this world to suffer, and went to the other world to reign. I believe Jesus was not a man of violence but he knew it was his time to suffer for our sins. In today's culture many would have done Jesus the same turn their backs due to fear and disbelief refusing accept the truth.
11 Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it? (as it was then, Jehovah /GOD assigned a duty to Jesus; so is it in 2019 GOD assign us duties).
The perpetual play twixt good and evil played out perfectly. For evil was the crucifixion of God's son, for glory was the resurrection. We pray that God's will be done on earth, but mankind does evil, for he has the power on earth to choose. In order to choose good over evil one needs to know which is which. Lifetimes are spent in deciphering the good from the evil. Most never figure it out.?
BSP: Question for BSP - Where in this chapter does it say Christ only prayed for his disciples(12)? If you are saying that Christ only prayed for those he preached too -(southern kingdom Israelite's primarily ( John 18:20), to include the 12 disciples, then I agree, otherwise is not in scripture.
John 18:40 Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber. Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Jesus came to die for all sinners. Jesus is the redeemer.
The Israelites DID NOT STEAL from the Egyptians; God took the Egyptians wealth and gave it to His people, for all that they suffered from the Egyptians. The LORD gave the lands of the Canaanites to His people, because the Canaanites were a completely ruined and filthy race; and God saw NOTHING in them worth saving! So shall it be when the time is up for the world; all shall be given to the Saints!
V40, interesting that the Jews saved a thief. The Jews were thieves when leaving Egypt. When someone borrows something they refuse to return, that is theft. Steal from a Jew, the punishment is death. Deuteronomy 24:7 But if a Jew steals from a Jew when caught he just has to pay double, no death sentence.
Jn. 18:38 - "What is truth?" From the book, "The Bible; it's origin and Use" by Word Aflame Elective Series; "Truth, the revelation of God and all things as He sees them, can only be found in the Scriptures."
Marat: You are correct in one way for Caiaphas was high the year that Jesus was arrested John 18:13. But when Peter and John was arrested Annas was high priest in that year, Acts 4:6 check it out. Good study.
Your answer Annah to the question: Who was the high priest when Peter and John were arrested at the temple? is incorrect. The correct answer is Caiaphas. See John 18:13, Annah was father-in-law of Caiaphas who was a high priest for that year.
Jesus mighty was certain that was why they fell down when he asks them who they seek, His mighty was certain that was why He put back one of them when Simon Peter struck him by sword, His mighty was certain that was He uses Pilate's words without fear of him as a judge. In that drama the ultimate goal was that the purpose of Him being on the earth must come to pass, that is the will of God. Amen
I could write a book on this verse! Most Christians today have forgot what it means to revere God. We have lost our awe of Him. Ex. 33:20 God said " there shall no man see me and live." Many times in scripture we see men falling to the ground on their faces when they are in the presence of God. In James 2:19 we see the devils believe and tremble. A verse that comes to mind is John 18:5 6 when they came to arrest Jesus in the garden, and they all fell backward when Jesus said, I am he. David had the awe of God and he knew this reverent fear of God. He feared God and he feared His testimonies. Fearing God's testimonies would come when we see how strict they are and how far we are from that righteous standard. Many have strayed from striving in holiness and have put everything in the grace basket. However we have the Holy Spirit that Peter say in 2 Peter 1:3, According as His divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him that hath called us to glory and virtue.
John 18 represents so much chaos and strife encircling Jesus and the disciples. Betrayal, aggression, acts of violence and denial of who He is by his chosen disciples. All of this takes place in the dark. Yet, Jesus is the only one who remains fixed and focused. Hallelujah! What a Savior! The "Light" of the world.
For as many that are under the bondage and captivity of the enemy, get yourself loose today by the word of God in John 18: 7-8. This is because before Jesus surredered his life to the arresters, he signed a contract with them, the contract is found in verse 8 which says 'If ye seek me, therefore let these go their way ' Beloved, receive the divine mandate today and be set free from that long age bondage. But, you must surrender your life to christ first. God bless you.
Jesus purposely laid down himself to be arrested because at that point they could not recognise Jesus. It was Jesus who asked them 'Whom seek ye? ' Even when Jesus said 'I am He ', they all fell to the ground. This simply shows that they don 't have the power to arrest Jesus but because Jesus knows his purpose on earth and it was time to fulfill that purpose, he simply laid down himself to be arrested.
36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. 37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice......Praise the Lord Jesus Christ.....The Lord of lords and the King of kings.....God Bless...
The other disciple was probably John. He was the disciple whom Jesus loved, the one who laid his head upon Jesus at the supper, not referring to himself by name.
John chapter 18 reminds me of how far the Lord went for me. Jesus could have answered all the questions the scribes and Pharisees asked but He didn 't because He knew what great accomplishment the shedding of His blood would bring. Thank You Jehovah for sending The Lamb to die for a sinner like me. Prepare me to meet You one day. Let me live a life of Christ-like worth.
It was for this purpose JESUS came into this world, that we might be set free from our sins and one day live with HIM in Heaven. Thank you Lord for all that you had suffered for us. So please let us live our lives the way GOD has instructed us to in His Holy Bible to demonstrate our love and appreciation for what JESUS had suffered for us. Thank you JESUS for all that you have done and is still doing for us AMEN.
