Paul states plainly that we do this by letting Jesus take away our sins. "He has done this through Christ Jesus, who has freed us by taking away our sins. For God sent Jesus to take the punishment for our sins and to satisfy God's anger against us." He goes on to say, "We are made right with God when we believe that Jesus shed his blood, sacrificing his life for us."
In other words, the death of Jesus was a subsutitute for our deaths. That is, it was supposed to be us dying on that cross, but Jesus took our place. This is what it means to say that we are saved by grace. Because in his gracious mercy, God did not punish us, but instead placed the punishment for our sins on Jesus.
I use the terms "God" and "Jesus" to mean the same because as it is expressed in John 1:1, "... and the Word (Jesus) was God." That's why Paul in 1 Timothy 2:3 calls Jesus "God our Savior."
Our Lord Jesus Christ was saying upon "THIS ROCK" I will build "MY CHURCH" ( Matthew 16:18). That spiritual "ROCK" was "CHRIST" ( 1 Corinthians 10:4). Therefore, HE meant to say upon "MYSELF" I will build "MY CHURCH". That Church which He built is none other but the "HOUSE of GOD", which is the "CHURCH of the LIVING GOD", the "PILLAR and GROUND of the TRUTH" ( 1Timothy 3:15). That "TRUTH" is our "LORD JESUS CHRIST" ( John 14:6). That "TRUTH" is the "WORD" of GOD ( John 17:17). That "WORD" was "MADE FLESH" ( John 1:14). But "BEFORE" the "WORD" was "MADE FLESH" HE "was" "GOD" ( John 1:1). If you understand the greatness of the "MYSTERY" of His "GODLINESS" ( 1Timothy 3:16) therefore there is no doubt that you belong to the "CHURCH" that "JESUS CHRIST" built upon "HIMSELF" because you also believe the "TRUTH". It was written in In Colossians 3:1-2, "If ye then be "RISEN" with "CHRIST", seek those things which are "ABOVE", where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things "ABOVE", not on things on the earth.
These verse 1 John 4:2 means that Jesus came from spirit to dwell with us here on earth who are in flesh. In fact, this scenario was made clear in John 1:14 that says the "Word" was "made flesh", and dwelt among us. Therefore, it simply means that Jesus was "not" in the form of flesh "before" he was made flesh. He came out "from" God as it was written in John 17:8. That's why in John 1:1 it says in the beginning "was" the Word and the Word "was" with God and the Word "was" God. And the day he was born here on earth, that's the time he came out of this world in the form of "flesh". That flesh whom we called Jesus Christ was declared by God as His beloved Son. It is also mentioned in 1 Corinthians 15:50 that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. Therefore the Word was in the form of spirit before He was made flesh and was born here on earth in the form of flesh who was known to us as Our Lord Jesus Christ.
John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
To be a subtitute means to die in the place of another. This means that the death of Jesus was not capricious. It's legal basis was to place Jesus in the place of all people and punish him for their crimes.
This could only take place if Jesus is the one who made us, and is therefore God. This is what David means when he says, "Open for me the gates where the righteous enter, and I will go in and thank the Lord (Jesus). Those gates lead to the presence of the Lord (Jesus), and the godly enter there. I thank you for answering my prayer and saving me!" ( Psalm 118:19-21) The prophet Isaiah says the same thing in Isaiah 45:21-22: "... For there is no other God but me-a just God and a Savior-no, not one! Let all the world look to me for salvation!
What we are talking about here is self identity or personality. That is, the self identity or personality through whom God's saves us is Jesus.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the word and the word was with God and and the word was GOd.
John 1:14 The word was made flesh and dwelt among us.
If God is the word and dwelt among us then who is GOd? Jesus would be the flesh.
Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
He is the Father, Son and God.
Rev 1:8 and 11 Iam the Alpha and Omega the beginning and the ending, and whish was, which is to come , the Almighty.
11:Saying I am the first and last: etc.......
Isaiah 44:6 Thus saith the Lord King of Israel, and his redeemer the Lord of hosts; I am the first, and I am the lasts and besides Me there is no other GOd.
Only one GOd and He was made flesh and He is the first and Last. Jesus spoke it in Revelation that He was Fist and last.
Only one God, Isaiah speaks of One God and in John 5:7 the three are ONE. The reason Jesus is praying to the father is that He was also flesh and the flesh was not Glorified yet. Yet Jesus did not sin because He couldn't because He was GOd.
This is why Peter can say in Acts what name to be baptized by. Peter knew Jesus as God and His name is above all names.
