You will probably get many responses that vary somewhat. That is o.k. I think there is a link of this site that is How To Become a Christian.
Part 1
For me, I have often tried to write down what it means to believe in Jesus and found that it has broad and deep meaning.
Foremost, in 1 Corinthians 15:3-8 gives the essence of what the gospel is:
Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and He was buried, and that then He rose again on the third
He was seen by Cephas (Peter), then by the twelve. After that He was seen by over 500 brethren at once...
After that He was seen by James, the by all of the apostles. Then last of all He was seen by me also...
In this passage, we are to believe that Jesus Christ did die for our sins, was buried, and rose again from the dead and was seen
by many eyewitnesses alive after eyewitnesses saw him die and be buried.
To believe this is to accept as fact and wholly true of Jesus Christ.
But then, I ask myself, what is it about Jesus, (besides rising from the dead) that sets Him apart from any other spiritual leader in all of history?
For that, I go to John 1:1-4
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. he was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life and the life was the light of men." (NIV)
This verse tells me that Jesus was the eternal Word who existed with God and was in fact God. He existed before anything was creed with God and He is the Creator of all things. This also tells me that He was both God and with God, telling me that God is a Godhead, consisting of more than one person in one God. (I wish I knew what the Greek words used here for with God and was God so we can distinguish what two persons are being spoken of here in this verse.) But, when it comes to believing in Jesus, it does include this, that He is God. Whoa!
continued to part 2
us to do.
John 3:3-7 Context together to understand the passage.
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
This is talking about being born in the flesh. When you are born your mother broke their water. It is not baptism. It explains in v6. Otherwise why would Nicodemus mentioned the mother's womb? GBU.
The truth is out! Do you believe the words of Jesus?
This comes direct from the mouth of Jesus. Mark 16:16 "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned."
Do you believe the words of Apostle Peter? Peter speaks directly about when we are baptized we receive God's Holy Spirit! Acts 2:38 "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."
So, Jesus tells us we must believe and be baptized to be saved. The Apostle Peter whom Jesus Christ built His Church on told us that when we repent, and get baptized, we receive "the gift of the Holy Ghost". Jesus gets baptized to show us how it is done - with water! Matthew 3:16 "And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:" What is the spirt of God? It is the Holy Spirit!
As a Christian (A Christ Follower) doesn't it just make sense to follow Jesus words and his actions?
The difference between the water baptism of John and the Water Baptism of Jesus Christ, is that we now receive the promise of the Holy Spirit - per Jesus Christ, and per Peter! From the very beginning of The Church water baptism was the requirement, and is still the requirement today. Jesus and all of the original Apostles (including Paul) didn't change the water baptism requirement.
So, now when we follow the above scripture it all ties together and we comply with the instruction from Jesus speaking to us here; John 3:5 "Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God."
If someone thinks that water baptism is no longer required today, they are ignoring the above scripture and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Hopefully these are helpful in your study of your spirit & flesh; (body)
Scripture tells us the unclean spirits/devils knew He was the Son of God, Matt. 8:29 Mark 3:11 Luke 8:27-28. Scripture tells us Jesus is the Son of God the only begotten of the Father, John 1:14. Scripture tells us Jesus the Son of God was before this world John 17:5 2 Timothy 1:9. Scripture tells us Jesus the Son of God was the beginning of creation Rev. 3:1. Scripture tells us everything was created through Him Col. 1:16.
Scripture tells us to confess Jesus is the Son of God, 1 John 4:15. Scripture tells us God gave His only begotten Son, John 3:16. Scripture tells us to believe God gave His only begotten Son, 1 John 5:10. Scripture tells us God was made known in the flesh through His only begotten Son same as creation was through His Son 1 Timothy 3:16 Col. 1:16.
Scripture tells us we have salvation and eternal life only in Jesus Christ, John 3:36 Acts 4:12 Eph. 4:12 1 Thess. 5:9 1 John 5:13 Scripture tells us we can only come to the Father through Jesus, John 14:6 1 Timothy 2:5.
Jesus came to fulfill the law and the prophets and died for our sins, and the only way that could be done is in the flesh, the seed of Abraham, Hebrews 2. He experienced temptation the same as you and me, Luke 4:2 Heb 2:18, He had a brain and a will, Luke 22:42 but He was obedient to the Father. We now have a high priest in heaven that lived in this flesh just like us, Hebrews 4:14-16.
Salvation and eternal life only by the grace of God through faith which is in Christ Jesus. Jesus Christ's perfect life in the flesh, His blood shed for us, and His resurrection. We cannot deny the divinity of Jesus, the only begotten Son of God that was before this world, but no creed, doctrine, or statement of faith can be placed above or added to that we must believe to receive salvation and eternal life if scripture does not tell us we must believe. Truth is in the simplicity that is in Christ.
I love this site and the brothers and sisters on it.
God bless,

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. So you see, we must believe in Him and never get the mark of the beast or deny Him and we will all be in heaven. funny thing is God already knows all, so that being said...He already knows who will or will not choose Him. He will never leave us or forsake us till His will be done and are all saved. We turn from Him and forsake Him. choose wisely ppl for you never know when it is your time. In the blink of an eye. That split second could be your last. I for one aint taken that chance in being wrong. It's a no brainer! all these little unimportant things in life are a waist of time. BELIEVE AND RECEIVE..!
When we believe in Him, we become a new creation, 2Corinthians 5:17-19, therefore we try to: Ephesians 4:24, in that we offer ourselves as a living sacrifice to GOD : Romans 12:1,
Revelation 1:7, I believe the weeping & wailing will be because the amazing person Jesus is & the humble man, with His scars who did it, just for us to be with Him, in His Kingdom : Luke 23:32-48, Matthew 26:28,
Jesus sat with sinners: Matthew 9:10-13, Jesus healed, delivered, feed & accepted the people including harlots, sinners, etc. Just read the Bible & see.

All working together. Jesus came to show us the Father, as Emmanuel.
Matthew 1:23
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God WITH US. [Jesus]
{Comment} Jesus came to bring to each born again believer; the baptism and the in-dwelling of the Holy Spirit.
[ Genesis 1:2, John 3:6, Acts 2:1-3, John 16: 7-15]
Upon being born again, Jesus gives the Holy Spirit to teach us scripture, comfort us, convict us of sin, enable us to be witnesses. Stay in the New Testament at first.
Mishael
And indeed, if water baptism is an essential part of salvation's work, then, as you mentioned, those who die suddenly, or who are incapable of being baptized, or by neglect of the evangelist, will then suffer complete rejection by God, even if they have called upon Him in faith. Water baptism is an important first step for the new believer, but never to be part of salvation by faith, or else, salvation is no longer of faith.
You stated to Bro Giannis: "But Giannis Jesus neva commands water baptism"
I don't know what bible you are reading.it can't be the KJV! Water baptism is required!
Jesus specifically states right here in scripture that we MUST be Water Baptized!
Mark 16:16
"He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned."
Jesus is telling us point blank: If we want to receive Salvation we must Believe and be Baptized!
Jesus also tells us below how we must be born of water and the Holy Spirit to enter into Heaven.
John 3:5
"Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God."
Apostle Peter tells us how we will receive "The Holy Spirit
Acts 2:38
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."
We don't receive the Holy Spirit by just believing.we MUST believe and be Baptized. Period!
All of the above scripture ties everything together, and confirms what is required by Jesus/God to receive the Holy Spirt and ultimately our Salvation.
In order to believe the way that you do - you have to ignore all of this scripture!

Just like Judas Iscariot, he didn't become evil and filled with Satan because God says "You come here, I need to put Satan in you because I need somebody to be an evil disciple." The bible says he was evil already, and that Jesus literally chose, and that's what He said in John Chapter 6, "Haven't I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a demon." He needed somebody who was evil to fulfil the role of an evil disciple. But Judas was already evil.
So a vessel fitted for destruction, and the word fitted means that the vessel conditions itself to be fitted for destruction. God doesn't do it. But once it's fitted for destruction, and it is a vessel of destruction, God uses it. He uses both honorable vessels and dishonorable vessels. He'll use them both for His glory and for His honor out of His choice.
Proverb 16:4 does not lead me to believe that God predestines anyone to heaven or hell. It is true that God creates all things, and he uses both good and evil people for His purposes. Evil people are not evil because God made them evil. Evil is what they have chosen for themselves.
The belief that God predestines people to heaven or hell would negate so many verses that show us that salvation is offered up and given to every single person who calls out to the Lord to have mercy on them and to save them. Even John 3:16, the verse everyone knows, that word "whosoever" would mean every single person.
Something else to consider. If a person repents of their sin, surrenders their life to Christ, and is a true follower of Jesus Christ their entire life, but God has already "predestined" that person to hell, wouldn't that go against every doctrine that speaks of salvation? Vice Versa?

John 17,
a. the Spirit's Deity.
Proven by His Names (Equality: 1 Corinthians 6:11; Doing the Work of God: Romans 8:15; John 14:16).
Proven by His Characteristics (All-knowing: 1 Corinthians 2:10,11; Everywhere: Psalm 139:7; All-powerful: Genesis 1:2; Truth: 1 John 5:6; Holiness: Luke 11:13; Life: Romans 8:2; Wisdom: Isaiah 40:13).
Proven by His Works (In creation: Genesis 1:2; Inspiration: 2 Peter 1:21; Begetting Christ: Luke 1:35; Convincing men: John 16:8; Regenerating: John 3:5,6; Comforting: John 14:16; Interceding: Romans 8:26,27; Sanctifying: 2 Thessalonians 2:13).
Proven by His equality with the Father & Son ( Acts 5:3,4; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14).
b. the Spirit's Procession.
Proceeded from the Father ( John 15:26).
Proceeded from the Son ( Galatians 4:6; Romans 8:9; John 16:7).
So, I hope you can see that the Holy Spirit, whether spoken of God or of Jesus, is the same Spirit, for He is one with the Father & the Son. Then when we come to 1 Corinthians 12:13, "For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit", again the one & same Holy Spirit is seen here, but we now see His special work where His coming into our lives, affects our spirits and baptizes us (brings us into union) with the whole family of God (into one Body, i.e. of Christ).
God uses parables, and symbolism through his word.
We, through the working or the Holy Spirit, have to break down the symbolism to make all scriptures agree with themselves.

Hopefully these are helpful in deeper understanding, you can also pray for wisdom, James 1:5,
Just as people were resistant to follow Jesus in His day, we have people who read the above verses and dismiss them as important or "unnecessary." Man tries so hard to perform mental gymnastics to avoid doing something God wants us to do. He comes up with all these creative interpretations of cherry picked verses claiming that when it says to be baptized, it doesn't actually mean it, or is symbolic, or no longer applies, or [fill in the blank].
What it comes down to is do you believe the Bible verses above or not? Do want to follow Jesus or not?
Is there a risk of being baptized? No.
Is there a risk of not being baptized? Yes.
How is this not an easy decision?
Bible clearly says to be baptized, but why is someone who wants to follow Jesus so adamant about not doing it? Physically you're wet for a couple minutes, then you dry off. Similar to what most people normally do daily anyway. So, the hesitancy probably isn't because of that. What else would motivate people to try so hard to disobey Jesus then? Embarrassment? Many do it publicly, but you can also do it privately. What else makes people so desperate to disobey Jesus then? Something inside them is resisting. Maybe searching ones heart and motives and praying and study of the scriptures might help reveal ones real motives behind this.

*A: The Bible indicates that baptism is not required in order to have your sins forgiven and spend eternity with God. If we were to look at the passages in the New Testament that discuss "being saved" or "salvation," we would discover that only 5 of 27 mention baptism. Not one of those five teach baptism is required to be saved. The five references to baptism are found in Mark 16:16; John 3:5; Acts 2:38 and 1 Pet. 3:21. When only five out of twenty-seven passages refer to baptism, we must ask, "Is baptism required in order to have our sins forgiven?" If baptism is essential for salvation, why was it not mentioned in the other twenty-two passages? Why would God allow that to happen? If it is needed to be saved, then very important information was left out. If we look at the five passages closely, we discover that the passages do not teach that baptism is required in order to be saved, that is, to have our sins forgiven. We would encourage you to read the study titled, "Baptism and Salvation." It explains that those five passages do not teach that baptism is necessary. Baptism is only a symbol of your faith. Being baptized is an act of an inner submission to Jesus. But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.*But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law*.But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. Gal. 5:16, 18, 2 ***But if one is a Christian, one will get baptized as an act of obedience; and the Holy Spirit will do a work in one's life to make one more like Jesus. Then we will see the fruit of the Spirit. God bless & be w/all misinterpriters
If you would 1st please consider the way it makes you feel. As you stated "horrified" that's not of GOD. Galatians 5:22-25,
2nd please consider all around you. Is there peace, is there light, anything to be thankful for? Is searching out news also symbolic of wanting to "know" what's happening in the news" Genesis 2:17, Romans 16:19,
3rd consider why there's only bad, horrible, divisive news? Hebrews 6:8, Proverbs 22:5, Why do they report the one horrible thing or person & not the million good? Is it meant to trigger rage? Hebrews 12:1, Luke 6:43-45,
1John 2:16, Titus 1:15, 2Samuel 22:27, Psalms 18:26, 1John 3:3, 2Peter 3, James 3:17, James 1:27, Philippians 4:8, Romans 8,
1Corinthians 4:5,
The Word also says: Numbers 11:12, Jude 1,
Hopefully these are helpful & encouraging
In Acts 15 the Disciples have a counsel on whether the Gentiles should be circumcised and keep the law, then Peter stands up to address the matter. Acts 15:7-11. Here you have the apostle Peter "A Jew" saying in verse 11, we Jews shall be saved in the same manner as the Gentiles! (By faith) "He's declaring "we jews have to come to the Lord by a new covenant".
This is the new birth spoken by Jesus in John 3:5 when speaking to Nicodemus. This is that which is spoken in
Jeremiah 31:31-34.
So here we have a new birth that provides a new nature that is generated by the Holyspirit. You see aspects of this in
Romans 6:1-23. Also, this is what is meant in John 4:21-24.
Here we have the quickening spirit by the second Adam that gives life under a new covenant where the old covenant brought death to the fleshly descendants of the first Adam. 1 Corinthians 15:45-50. and 2 Corinthians 5:1-6.
Ephesians 2:1-5 sums it up.
And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins.
Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
"AGAIN We're not talking about "Justification" we're talking about sanctification. Romans 5:1-21 handles justification.
GRAFTED INTO THE VINE BY THE RESURECTION OF CHRIST.
John 15:1-5.
Romans 6:6.
Now take these chapters in order-
Romans 6:1-23.
Romans 7:1-25.
Romans 8:1-39.
We are Justified and Sanctified by the blood of Christ and given a new nature under a new covenant that bares fruit by the power of the Holyspirit.
God bless.
Here is a very important truth that is not discussed often and one that can tie a lot of loose ends.
What does works of the flesh and the works of law have in common? And how does it contrast Fruit of the Spirit. And what does baptism "Not water baptism" has to do with it?
When talking about salvation we like to consider verses like John 3:16. Romans 10:9. and others. But what does born from above spoken by Jesus in John 3:7 means and how should the new birth effect the believer in a way the old nature could not?
Here's just a few reference verses.
Galatians 2:16. Galatians 5:19-21.
Galatians 5:22-24. John 15:1-6.
John 3:7.
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
So, then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. Romans 8:1-11.
Those are references that will point you to other scriptures that give more information on your original verse.
So if your Bible doesn't have those, consider buying a KJV REFERENCE/STUDY BIBLE. It will really explain some passages.
Also, you can Google a scripture like this, to get to commentaries by Bible Scholars.
Sample:
John 3:16, commentaries, or history, or Meaning, or Teaching
I generally pick websites that have "Bible" within their Link. You have to be careful you're not reading something written by Jehovah witnesses or other cults.
If what others teach something that seems off, we as believers need to search it out. Put that Pastor on your daily prayer list. Ask God to reach out to him through the Word. Prayer goes places that we can't go.
