Discuss John 3 Page 27

    A very fundamental lesson

All flesh is appointed to die.

Every soul that sin shall die the 2nd death.

There's a new birth at conversion for those who trust in Christ. This is defined in baptism.

And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: Hebrews 9:27.

There is in scripture what is called the 2nd death. This has been taken care of for those who trust Christ.

    Without Christ you're already dead.

    1 Timothy 5:6.

    Ephesians 2:5.

    Revelation 3:1.

    Colossians 2:13.

    Romans 8:10.

    Mathew 8:22.

    Luke 15:24.

And here's an important one for the brethren.

    1 John 3:14.

John 11:25-26. Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

AND WHOSOEVER LIVETH AND BELIEVETH IN ME SHALL NEVER DIE. Believest thou this?

One of many verses on the 2nd death.

Revelation 20:13-14. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

    Eternal life.

If you truly trust in Christ, you have been baptized into Christ. You already have ETERNAL life. That's the only kind he's giving.

If you haven't truly trusted in Christ you're already dead while you liveth and it shows up in your living and it observed carefully you'll find it in their Doctrine.

    Romans 8:9.

    Romans 10:8-10. But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

    God bless.

    Hello,

Yes it would have been disasterous if indeed my bible was distributed without John 3:3 in it! So I was in error and have now found it, I was looking in the wrong place!

    Thank you for your reply!

    hi Michael,

Woah! that's weird. You can always use "Books of the Bible page, click on John, select chapter 3, and verse 3 and read it on here.

Thinking more of eternal life. 1John 3:15

Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.
  • Adam - In Reply on John 3 - 2 years ago
Hello, when you say not there, what exactly about John 3:3 isn't there: the book of John itself, the chapter, or verse? Does your Bible go Matthew, Mark, Luke, then skips to Acts? If so, was it ripped out? If printed that way I think your Bible would be the only one in history like that. Bibles care meticulously scrutinized for accuracy probably more than any other book in the world.

Amen, as it is written so shall it be done. Dear Jesus, Son of Man, and God of the Holy Trinity have mercy on me a sinner, forgive me my sins, that I might gain eternal life.

Hello Michael, i cannot tell you the page number because I have an NIV version but John 3:3 says

"Jesus answered and said to him, Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." (NIV)

Hi everyone dear. Now a case is central. You can turn around and never touch what you "like so much" again. John 8:36 Like and take any miserable thought as temptation. 2 Corintihans 10:5 Place it somewhere you can not come and never bring it out again! : D I see hope in that. 1 John 5:13

For when we meet the Lord in our life, all things become new, the old is gone. John 3:7 John 3:21 And remember it is the Lord who must draw us. John 6:44 We ourselves do not know anything. It is good that we can lean on Jesus, we must all do that.

Stay blessed in Jesus name, love u all in Christ.

Richard, I don't believe that John 3:5 speaks of water baptism, as the verses around it shows. In verse 3, Jesus speaks of a spiritual birth to get into the Kingdom. Verse 4: Nicodemus is thinking, a physical re-birth - an impossibility of course. Verse 6: Jesus clarifies that the 'water' alludes to the physical birth, while the 'spirit' alludes to the spiritual birth.

To make verse 5 mean that one has to be water baptized to be born again is not only inconsistent with the passage, it then raises the matter of carrying out a physical act to accompany 'faith', to bring about salvation; we are saved only by God's Grace through faith & nothing else. To add anything to faith, negates its very meaning. Marke is correct that water baptism is merely an act, after saving faith & reception of the Spirit, demonstrating a personal & public testimony of a change of one's direction & alignment with the merits of Christ's Sacrifice. In those days, such a public demonstration incurred great costs to the new Christian, as even today in countries where the Cross of Christ is despised, something not seen or felt in countries having a Christian foundation.

Again I give you scripture, not my own opinion. John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

So in Gen 3:15 when God is talking to the serpent He says, "And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her Seed;." In the concordance the word 'seed' means child. So it is saying the serpent has a child. Then God goes on to tell the woman He is going to "multiply thy conception". I think we all know what conception is. Doesn't God's punishment always fit the crime?

Cain and Abel came of age at the same time in Gen 4:3-4, which speaks to them being born at the same time, fraternal twins, one evil and one good.

The fallen angels came down and had sex with women and had children, why is it "nonsense" that satan did the same with Eve? After all, he is their leader.

Regarding Luke 8:17 I don't know what secret sins you are speaking of, because my understanding is we are forgiven our sins when we sincerely ask for forgiveness, and God knows all, so we have no secrets from him.

Deut 29:29 unfortunately has a bad translation. If you go back to the Hebrew text this should read, "The secret things, even the revealed things [belong] to us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law."

I John 3:12 and John 8:44, well what more can I say about these as they both speak to Cain being of satan.

You have to do what we all did; every one of us. We ran from the knowledge of God for years. The Holy Spirit draws us towards Gods love.

There are many distractions that try to keep us away from that love. But there is a hole inside of us that only God can fill.

It's like Jesus told Nicodemus in John 3: unless we are born again, we Cannot See The Kingdom of God. John 3:16, "for God so loved THE WORLD (that is you).

That's what I found 36 years ago. Don't let anything, or anyone separate you from that love. Nobody ever loved me like Jesus does. It is easy to hang onto Him, when you accept that much truth. The world says it loves you but it takes and takes and takes until you don't have anything left again and then it leaves you alone.

There's a box in the comment rooms or a link out on the red entry page: BECOME A BELIEVER. It's Thoughtfully written to help you get started.

In the book Song of Solomon, God says 3 times: I am my Beloveds (you), My Beloved (you), is MINE. I found myself to suddenly be wrapped in that Love. I never went back to the World; which hurts us and lies to us every day.

You can use that prayer on the Link, to be a shell for what you need to confess to God. Our hearts are not just a beating organ. It is a Throne that God sits upon. The world is gonna hurt us, disappoint us and make us doubt. We have to become His precious child, and keep Him on that throne. Make your love strong by reading His Bible. Start in the New Testament about Jesus. He is the one who brings us to the Fathers Love.

Everyone in this room will answer your questions and help you to become stronger in your faith. Hold on to Jesus tight. If anything threatens that faith, out loud, say the Blood of Jesus. His blood is so HOLY that no evil spirit can touch you. Time is running out, so hang on tight.

Let's look at just a couple of comments on this subject...

    Adame Clarke:

The book, entitled Koheleth, or Ecclesiastes, has ever been received, both by the Jewish and Christian Church, as written under the inspiration of the Almighty; and was held to be properly a part of the sacred canon. But while this has been almost universally granted, there has been but little unanimity among learned men and critics as to its author. To Solomon it has been most generally attributed, both in ancient and modern times.

    John Gill

This book has been universally received into the canon of the Scriptures, by Jews and Christians. The former, indeed, had once some controversy a about it; and they thought to have hid it, or put it among the apocryphal books; because, at first sight, some things seemed contradictory to each other b, and to incline to heresy c, atheism, and epicurism, and to assert the eternity of the world d: but they better considered of it; and when they observed those passages were capable of a good sense, and that the whole agreed with the law of God, they changed their minds e. And so likewise it has been rejected by some heretical persons, of the Christian name, as Theodore and Mopsuest, and others; and by deists, and some deistically inclined. But it carries in it such internal evidences of a divine original, as cannot well be denied; it delivers out and inculcates such divine instructions, concerning the duties of men to God, and one another; concerning the contempt of the world, and the carnal pleasures of it; the fear and worship of God, and a future judgment; as none but the wisdom of God could suggest. There are various things in it which seem to be referred to by Christ and his apostles; at least there is an entire agreement between them: among the many things that might be observed, compare Ecclesiastes 11:5 with John 3:8; and Ecclesiastes 11:9 with 2 Corinthians 5:10; and Ecclesiastes 7:20 with 1 John 1:8.

Let us remember 1 Timothy 3:16!

I have no idea what the forbidden fruit was but I do know Adam and Eve left it behind in the Garden when they were banned.

Luke 8:17 tells us that our secret sins will be revealed someday but it does not tell us that we will know every secret thing of God today. This is the verse that applies to the secret things of the Lord.

    Deuteronomy 29:29

The secret things belong unto the Lord our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

Sinners born in sin are physical sons of Adam, not physical sons of the devil. Sinners who reject the light of the Gospel revealed to them by the Holy Spirit are referred to as spiritual children of the devil, not physical children of the devil.

    1 John 3:12

Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.

    John 8:44

Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

    Hi Roman.

    Thanks for replying.

I've moved this conversation to a new thread since the other is a week old, And off topic.

    You stated:

"Spencer, Jesus said 2 commandments are most important, above all. If I follow the commandments, I will be OK at that. I don't need to dissect a butterfly to see how it flies. My impression is that everyone good and bad make it to the promised land, the tainted spirits we wear will be made whole so we haven't the capacity to sin. Even though it's dangled in our faces, the lake of fire is only for the 3 evil spirits, and no one else. Too much speculation and fuss is made over what will never be known and confirmed from the hear and now. Anything that occurs past the 7th trumpet is beyond our scope, beyond our comprehension, and out of this world. For all we know, our salvation comes from being thrown back into the universe as dust particles, into a new realm.

I don't think about my salvation, I don't worry about it, because it's not mine to entertain, but God's.

My personal salvation is rooted in selfishness that I could be good enough to make the grade.

I seek truth well before salvation. I was never a fanatic for life, so I look forward to death, the charade over. I wouldn't mind being blotted out as if I never existed, no record, that would be fine with me, too. I will have to wait and see what the Lord has in store for me.' End quote.

Roman if I had that mindset there wouldn't be any need to witness.

Roman you said you believe the lake of fire was only for the 3 evil spirits. here's their fate. Revelation 20:10.

But in this same chapter here's

mention of the lost suffering the same fate!! Revelation 20:15.

Here's a few of many scriptures I believe.

We've all sinned and come up short.

    Romans 3:22-25.

    The payment/Blood sacrfice.

    Matthew 20:28.

    Hebrews 9:26.

    Conclusion.

    John 6:28-29.

    John 3:16-17.

    Romans 10:9.

    1 Corinthians 15:1-4.

Thanks and God bless you Roman.

    Perhaps later.

    God bless.

    Dear Somefair

People have seen the human body of Jesus Christ, also His spiritual body after His Resurrection. But His divine body no man has ever seen It. Nor has ever seen Father and Holly Spirit. For if smd sees God he will die ( Exodus 33;20). People have only seen similarities of God both in OT and NT.

But afrer our resurrection we will get our new spiritual bodies similar to Jesus' body and we will see God's Face and live with Him/Them for ever (1 John 3:1-3).

So what was the forbidden fruit? And why did 'man' decide to call it an apple? Why would this be a secret? Luke 8:17 says nothing shall remain secret or hidden. This seems very important to me. Was not the Tree of Life in the garden, as well as the tree of the knowledge of good and evil? Why would it not be revealed what the 'fruit' of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil is?

In Matt 12:33 and Luke 6:44 it speaks to a tree being known by his fruit.

And then there is I John 3:12 where it says Cain "was of that wicked one"?

Reading the Bible on this website:

When you first enter the website, is a white page with all the books of the Bible listed. Those are LINKS. The Old Testament with the New Testament following.

Just click on the book of the Bible you want to read.

If you have questions, go to the SEARCH BOX, above the books of the Bible, and enter the scripture you are questioning.

After it's located, click on it and it will highlight Yellow. Scroll down slowly and you will see the Commentary Box. Open. There will be comments by John Wesley or the Peoples Bible.

You can also use Google the same way, but you have to type in one of these after you type in the scripture. Example:

    John 3:16, Commentary or

    Meaning or

    Teaching or

    History or

    Geneology or

    Hebrew meaning or

    Greek meaning

It will be alot to read, but it will broaden your knowledge greatly. I use this myself all of the time.

Rich, you don't pray to the Holy Spirit, but you pray THROUGH the Holy SPIRIT.

When Christ came as sinful flesh and DIED, sinful flesh (YOU) died, and were raise (with CHRIST) a new creation.

Philippians 2:13 For it is God (SPIRIT, LIFE and TRUTH) that WORKETH IN YOU (Christ has replaced sinful flesh (you) with himself (SPIRIT), and everything that he is, is now IN YOU) TO WILL and TO DO his good pleasure.

We don't know what to pray for, but Christ as the mediator between Father and Son(s) does know. So what ever you pray for is being caused by the LIFE, now in you.

Christ is the ROOT (LIFE), we are the branches, without THE ROOT (LIFE AND TRUTH) the branches would wither and die), of ourselves WE CAN DO NOTHING.

Ezekiel 36:27 And I will put MY SPIRIT within you, and CAUSE YOU to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgements, and DO THEM.

1 John 3:9 Whosoever is born of GOD (truth and life) doth not commit sin; for his seed (truth and life) remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of GOD (Spirit, Truth and Life).

Proverbs 16:6 By TRUTH and MERCY (which are GOD) iniquity is purged ....

    Hi Tom.

That is a great question and as several may have said, the scripture doesn't reveal why.

    Here's what I find interesting,

We know John was the forerunner preparing the way for the Lord.

He was to bring in what was prophesied by the Prophets.

When he required of Jesus the Lord reminded him a passage from Isaiah, which he also stated when he begin his ministry in

    Luke 4:17-21.

I believe the Holyspirit was on John his entire life to fulfill his ministry which was to prepare the way for the Lord.

It's also interesting John was never given a visual description of Jesus to identify him. Just that he would see the spirit descending and remaining on him.

John 1:31-34. And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.

And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.

And I knew him not: BUT HE THAT SENT ME TO BAPTIZE WITH WATER, THE SAME SAID UNTO ME, UPON WHOM THOU SHALT SEE THE SPIRIT DESCENDING, AND REMAINING ON HIM, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.

John ministry was unique and was to bring to Israel what was prophesied. And when that was done he said this.

"He must increase, but I must decrease.

He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all.

And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony.

He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true.

For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him. John 3:30-34."

John was mighty in bringing in our Lord, afterwards he decreased.

Jesus is the only one given the spirit without measure.

    Just a thought.

    God bless.

Dear Marvin: if you have been born again, that is saved, allow me to suggest you study the Gospel of John which teaches the deity of Jesus, and the verses written by the Apostles Paul and Peter which show us how to grow stronger in our walk with Jesus Hebrews 5:11-6:12, 1 Cor. 3:1-4, 10-15, Eph 4:11-16, 1 Pet. 2:1-3, 2 Pet.1:3-10.

Jesus said in John 3:3 "Ye must be born again to enter the kingdom of Heaven."

What the Bible says about being saved.

"As it is written, 'There is none righteous, no, not one.'" ( Romans 3:10)

"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." ( Romans 3:23)

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." ( Romans 6:23)

"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." ( Romans 5:8)

"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." ( Romans 10:13)

    How to be born again

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.- Romans 10:9-13

God bless you on your journey for Christ.

The right thing is to pray (and ask things for) to Father God in the name of Jesus Christ.

As far as names of God are concerned you must know that every name God has has the purpose to show us a God's characteristic

So Sabaoth means Lord of Armies or powers that is the Powerful God, Eloheim means God . Adonai means Lord. Jehovah or Jahve probably means the existing God and so on . God used his names to reveal Himself to people especially in the Old Testament. Thus God's names have a discriptional purpose, they have nothing magic which when you say the Heavens open to you

The name of God in New Testament is Father, because we are reborn by God who becomes not only our God but our Father as well. God is not father to all people no matter who they are or what they believe but He is Father to reborn christians. And that is done by the Spirit of God . John 3:1-8
