All men and women of God should pray before opening the word of God and surrender to his will, no mater what we find it to be. The prayer should be for God to remove all the wordly motivation that we would all have otherwise have (like wanting a verse to mean something before we even study it or so we can argue with someone). I don't see how anyone that has prayed that prayer could possibly see this verse to be about water baptism. The entire chapter is talking about the difference between being born physically and being born spiritually. Why would this verse suddenly be about anything else? Water and of spirit; one has to be physical birth and the other spiritual birth. After all, it's not "born of spirit and of spirit". Water is simply the physical birth. Remember, this was written in an ancient language (not even exactly the same as today's Greek).

For by the failure of one man ADAM sin=death entered the world and here Jesus comes to save mankind from SIN=DEATH to eternal life.
The true love of God for you and me only if we believe. John 3:16.

Two factors to to consider when pondering this verse; 1.No MAN will take Jesus sheep. 2. We are not of this world (now) therefore cannot be spoiled by it. Old man DIED, not of the flesh but Spirit. Not under Law, but Grace if saved. >>>>John10:27-28 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
    >>>>This V speaks of the "World"? 1 John 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. >>>>>>>>> Hebrews 10:39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.>>>>>Fear Not Stand Fast. This speaks of wolves who come to kill. They cannot kill the saved. Life Eternal is why. It can't be shaken.

Indeed had it not been for the Lord Jesus my soul would have been lost forever, but praise and glory be to God our Father for sending his Son to come and redeem us from the bondage of satan and giving us the right to be called God's children if we believe and follow His commands.Jesus' death at the cross was a great sacrifice ever made hense,He broke the wall that separated us from the Father and united us again with GOD.

The scriptures indeed speak of water baptisim. 1st baptisim doesnt come after salvation it is incorporated in the package deal! It is by water bapisim that the old man is destroyed, it is by baptisim that we go down with the old and arise in the newness of life! The theif on the cross didn't have to be baptised, they were still under old testament law and would be until the day of Pentecost which is the birth date of the church. Notice old testament practice called for the preist to make sacrifice at the alter, but all it did was pust the sins of Isreal ahead one more yr! Jesus was that sacrifice and it is by that name, by that blood that we are all redeemed! No folks except u/r born of water and spirit! look at Acts... everytime salvation was carried out the same thing was done. Acts 2:28 was the message of salvation. It still is today, ru repented are u baptised in Jesus Name hve you recieved the Holy Ghost? (baptisim is for what for what? Its for the remission of sins. Thats what the word says. Acts8,9,10,19 here diciples of John were re-baptised, why? because it had not been done correctly. God bless yall.

We can show that we are exercising faith in the Son by making changes in our life and bringing it into harmony with God’s will. We must reject any wrong course and do things that are pleasing to Jehovah God.

Succinct and to the point, topples many an idol, casts out many a foe. Not good works, not Sunday school attendance, though those things are good, that saves us. It is belief that Jesus died for us and rose again and is seated at the right hand of God the Father and will come again. We must become like children and let go of what we know in order to gain what He knows and who He is, what He has done for us, in our place, as our substitute for sin, on the cross. Death, burial and resurrection, all so that we could have fellowship with God.

I believe that vss.5&6 go together. The water meaning natural birth. From vs.6 (flesh is flesh) and vs6 (Spirit is spirit). I do not believe this is referring to water baptism because in other scripture water baptism takes place after salvation. The thief on the cross went into paradise with Jesus without water baptism so salvation CAN take place without it. Not saying it is not important.I believe water baptism is symbolic of the death and ressurection of Jesus.

Psalms (songs?) was a somewhat independent revelation attributed mostly to David and partly to his son, Solomon. The Divine Decreed of the Lord in this verse would predate the coming of the New Testament by many centuries and should not be confused with later revelations.
It seems clear the term used here could not be the same as John 3:16 (only begotten son) Otherwise, the Bible would be seen to contain contradictions or misguidance for all those centuries to those who had not yet heard the words of the Messiah (Christ).
I look forward for more information. Pray for us to be guided.

the Son of Man(Jesus Christ) was the only one who ascended to Heaven, after His earthly ministry, and of course he ascended because he first came down from heaven during his birth.when he was born by the Holy Spirit of God..( Acts 1:9-11;3:15-21; Heb. 1:3;8:1; Psalm 110:1,2)

When I believe in something or someone I give them my all mo matter what other people think about me this includes my faith in Jesus! No matter where when or with whom I am I reflect on my acknowledge of who I believe with a simple reply of salutation when one ask me how I am doing my response is never changing for with all sincerity I say I am greatful to God for He continues to bless us with life. And when I depart I say may God bless you in the name of Jesus and while I am in their presence I ask Jesus to use me as a vessel of His love even if I know without a doubt I am in the midst of those that despises and resents me for my obedience and faith in Jesus. May God bless us all in the Mighty name of Jesus with understanding for soon and very soon Jesus is a COMMING.

The carnal man focuses more on carnal things than spiritual things. Carnal things lead to all manners of woe and strife, yet the carnal lusts may remain, yea, even grow stronger as the carnally minded man does not always learn from his follies, and in many cases does not wish to, being hard-hearted. Christ on the other hand speaks to us of spiritual truths that lead to holiness and blessedness when incorporated into our lives, as well as the need to repent from the "I" that desires carnality and sin (literally to DENY oneself) in order to slowly but surely begin eradicating the temptation to sin (to be delivered from evil). If the heart of man is desperately wicked, it is because it is focused on wicked things. Therefore, to accomplish seeing and entering the Kingdom of God, we must seek first righteousness and be as little children (teachable and trusting in the verity of the words of the Good Teacher). Jesus IS the embodiment of righteousness and truth, therefore HIS commandments, precepts, indeed all that Jesus IS must therefore continually increase in our lives, and the carnal "I" must decrease. How else can you expect to win the race set before your soul except to prepare rigorously, as Paul exhorts us, believing AND FOLLOWING the words of our Good Shepherd and Teacher?

John Chapter 3 verse 5 coments.
It's not mandotary but one has to confess all the wrong doings prior like the thief did to be in paradise
  • Allen on John 3:5 - 11 years ago
The thief on the cross was not baptized but Jesus told him that Today you will be with Me in Paradise. One should be baptized to show the world their commitment to Christ but Baptism is not mandatory to get into heaven.

I'd have to agree with a "formers" response. If I haven't applied John 3:16 in my life, I too believe that my life would be a "human waste". I am grateful that GOD gave His only begotten son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in order to cleanse us of our sins. That Is Truly The Ultimate Sacrifice. I believe We ALL Should Be Grateful No Matter What Race Or Gender!!! I Pray That All TRY To Take The Time, No Matter Your Religious/ Non-Religious Beliefs, to ponder & give some thought of the Underlining Meaning behind John 3:16.
    I Challenge You All!

  • Steve on John 3:13 - 11 years ago
Since we know that Jesus came from heaven, He alone can speak with absolute authority and certainty on all matters about God, Heaven, our purpose and so on. He should know, He came from heaven. All other religions, though claiming divine inspiration, are simply speculation and wishful thinking based on obseving nature and best guesses.
  • Thy word is truth on John 3 - 11 years ago
Scripture with scripture. That's the way to understand God's word ( 1 Cor 2:13). You must be saved first though ( 1 Cor 2:14). Jesus said you have to be "born again" thats because the first birth is not going to get you to Heaven. That's what he spake of when He said " That which is born of flesh is flesh;" ( First birth is flesh). Then Jesus said, " that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." ( This is the second birth)Water is a reference to a physical birth ( Gen 1:20, Pr 5:16-18, Isa 41:1). Did you check the verses. You better. Heaven and Hell are going to be one of your homes for eternity.
  • Rich on John 3 - 11 years ago
The only way to make it to heaven is through Jesus Christ. Faith with out works is dead. Just because you believe in Jesus Christ that alone is not enough to make it into heaven. We must be saved. Study thy word to prove yourself worthy unto God.
