  • April Herbster on John 3:5 - 11 years ago
This verse definitely does not mean water baptism since we know that we are saved by grace and not by works and being baptized would be works. This verse is saying that one first has to be born to be eligible for salvation. When Jesus said that you have to be born again, this of course means that you have to be born the first time as well.

This verse shows how great and deep God's love is for us. This should move us to show our faith in him. We must do more than just believe God exists, but we need to believe Him, his word, and his promises. We should show our love for God by our actions each day.

I would like to thank Richard for his insight on this verse. He put a entirely new way of explaining it that is detailed and yet so easy to understand in a much easier way. I knew basically what the verse meant but could not put it into words but the way he worded it and the examples given is so clear. Thank you.

"For god so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son so that whosoever belief in him should not perish but have everlasting life" I never really understood that before but now i do lord i thank you for sacrificing your son for my sins and i believe in you so i will start to walk by faith and not by sight because now i know that i will not stumble or fall and i will walk and not faint. I accept Christ into my life as of this moment so there is no question that i have eternal life John 3:16 my new favorite verse thank you lord

verse 16 is one of the most misunderstood verses in Christianity today. We need to go back to verse 5 and remember that Jesus clearly told Nicodemus that he must be born of the water and spirit to enter the kingdom of heaven. In chapter 4 Jesus hints of the coming holy spirit while talking to the Samaritan woman. Other chapters in John also talk of the coming holy spirit which would arrive after Jesus was glorified. I don't believe we are saved by just believing because Jesus told Nicodemus that you must be born of the water and spirit. We find the arrival of the Holy Spirit in chapter 2 of Acts. The first message of salvation of the church age is Acts 2:38 repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. I believe John 3:16 is referring to a trust and belief in Jesus which leads to obedience of faith and not a salvation of just simply believing in Jesus.

God loved us as human being,so he give his only son to die for us,and say who believed in his son shall live a lasting life
  • Angel on John 2 - 11 years ago
Who is this Jesus you ask? Is this Bible a storybook? Answer: First the Bible is not a storybook but rather a living breathing book that once you have accepted Christ as your Savior the Holy Spirit resides within you (the Comforter Jesus promised to send after His resurrection and acension to heaven)and guides you and reveals the scriptures to you. It is the only book that the author is present each time you read it and reveals more and more to you as you grow in your daily life with Jesus who is the Christ. Second: Jesus is the only begotten Son of God full of grace and truth ( John 3:16-17) who came to die for us and pay the sin debt He did not owe for us who could not pay the debt of sin we owed. How marvelous to know and understand that the Holy God of heaven and earth and all there is was willing to do such a thing! Romans 3:23 gives us the state we are born into but John 3:16 and 1 John 1:9 are two of many verses that tells us how to come to Jesus to accept the free gift of salvation. Jesus is the way the truth and the life, no man comes to the Father except through Him. Keep searching the scriptures and pray God to reveal the truth to you and you will see who this Jesus is and how wonderful it is to have Him in your heart and part of your life.

God is the truth, the truth is what makes everything real. Surely I have seen the signs.
  • Delisa on John 3:6 - 11 years ago
John 3:6 Highlights how very different our flesh and spirit are. We can never percieve spiritual things by any means of the flesh - we can only percieve spiritual things by receiving the word of God and having faith.

I know that the key part of the Eternal Coming of Christ Our Great God and Saviour & The Eternal Kingdom, is that He must make All of Us, His People, As He is (I John 3:2). That is, He must remove the sinful flesh, He put upon all Living Beings, and once again, Make Us Exactly as He is, Spirit-Only, Amen!!!

"For the sinful flesh warreth against Us Spirits."

Thus, For The Eternal Age of Righteousness, Peace and Joy to come, the sinful part of this evil flesh age must be done away with by Our Creator, Amen!!!

this is what u call unconditional love between a father in a son. ask yourself, would you give your son life up to save anyone for any cause. only a true God of all power could make such a decision. he is the lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world. no man could every withstand the walk jesus have taken.
  • Fred griffin on John 3 - 11 years ago
I believe and rejoice and see the urgency of telling the lost to come, listen, and believe for the end of the church age keeps drawing nearer. You must receive salvation while it is still day because judgment day and the night is coming.

  • Bro. Romy Duque on John 3:16 - 11 years ago
Yes, God so loved the world, and He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him(JESUS)should not perish...we have to believe with JESUS alone and obey His commandments to get into heaven.

Praise be to Jesus, Son of God, Savior of mankind! He is my Redeemer, my Savior, and my Great Physician and Healer. He has taken my terrible arthtis pain away, when the ER doctors were no help at all. I will forever pray before I bother with earthly people and things. Praise be to Jesus, He who loves me through to my soul! Amen!

Redemption from sin inherited from the fall, end on the cross and Salvation begins John 3:16. We are commissioned to respect (love) one another.

GreaterLove hath no man than this than to lay down his life for his friends! Jesus loves us all and is so special. I love Jesus because he 1st loved me . Jesus leaves no one out cause he loves all!
  • Pedro Gonzales on John 3:16 - 11 years ago
For God "SO" Loved - meaning madly in love, loved beyond the norm... That He said if you believe in my Son, you will have everlasting Life. The Criteria to go to Heaven or have eternal life is for us to believe in Christ. Believe in what He did for us and you would have eternal life. That is Love! unconditional love! Never question if you have eternal life if you believe and accepted Jesus in your life because you do. He said it and His Word is unchanging and uncompromising. Isaiah 55:10-11 says it.
  • Rguy on 1 Corinthians 12 - 11 years ago
Marilyn- the ability to interpret is also a spiritual gift (verse 10) which is received through prayer ( 1 Cor 14:13). So the person speaking in tongues does not automatically know what it means. Tony diversities of gifts means there are different types of gifts. Zan, a person who does not believe that Jesus is Lord does not have the Spirit of God (verse 1). Unless you are born again you will not see the kingdom of heaven ( John 3:18).
  • Truth of GRACE on 1 John 3:4 - 11 years ago
Jesus did it all folks. TRUST our LORD, not yourselves. Only one way to be righteous.Go to JESUS CHRIST and be saved. He did what we could not.>>> Here we see 1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. >>>Ready for some Peace? This verse above says if you are sinning you are STILL under LAW.(easy math) If you can commit one at all it's only because you've transgressed the law. And that's due to the laws defining the sin committed told you it was one.( Romans 3:20) Which ALSO means you have not gotten saved YET ( or even tried to be!). The "Good" news for the saved? READ IT.>>> Romans 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are NOT under the law, but under GRACE.>>> Romans 3:21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets>>>> Romans 6:18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness>>>Romans10:4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. I HIGHLY suggest you read this, those attempting to be righteous without being saved, for you cannot do so: Galatians 2:16 and Galatians 3 (whole chapter). DO not be a foolish Galatian either and act like Gods gift was not enough. It was everything, for ALL fell short. Go Praise the LORD and rejoice! You are safe with Jesus!

  • Barry on Genesis 15:1 - 11 years ago
Love always gives of itself to its beloved.
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son..."

The self-giving love of YHWH revealed in Genesis 15:1 appears to be an Old Testament example and precursor of that same sentiment, later clarified in John 3:16. God loves His Chosen people and gives them not just objective blessing from on high. He actually gives them Himself, in order to bless, as any true lover, following His example does.

Josh's said in his comment on 9/20/2013, 12:58pm...I don't share the belief that being baptized is a requirement to salvation. Look at the thief hanging on the cross.

John, the thief on the cross was UNDER the law, therefore baptism was not essential for his salvation. The requirements of new testament salvation are completely different from the law. The Apostle Paul explains this in Romans.

    To: Albert's Acts Chapter 26 comment about verse 14 on 9/11/2013, 12:31pm...
The name "Jesus" is from the Greek for the Hebrew "Jeshua"(Joshua) which means "the Lord is salvation". Matthew 1:21 says, "And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call His name JESUS: for He shall save His people from their sins." John 3:17 "For God sent not His son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved." Acts 4:12 "Neither is there salvation is any other: for there is none other name under Heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." Romans 10:13 "Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
Jesus was not the leader of the Nazarenes, He IS the only begotten Son of God. His Kingdom is not from here and because His Kingdom is not from here, His own people did not accept Him as their King when He was here on earth.
In touching your reference to Revelation 17:2, you must read on to Revelation 17:5 which says, "And upon her forehead was a name written, 'MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.'" (the false religious system that is put in place after the church is raptured up into Heaven). May God teach you through His Holy Spirit and bring you to Him through His Son, Jesus Christ.
