Looking for help where there is no help put us in more danger.
  • Tim on Jonah 2:8 - 11 years ago
I think lying vanities are everything in this world that will leave and depart from us and help us on our path to hell. But our mercy is our savior who gave his life for us that we can have eternal life. If we take our eyes off him and focus on things around us or our circumstances we have a tendency to fall away from Him and His will for our life.

They that obserue lying vanities, forsake their owne mercy.

Exodus 20:3 YOU SHALL HAVE NO OTHER GOD BEFORE ME
Anything that goes before attention to God subjects a soul to the misery of sin and addiction in the absence of His Divine Love.

2 Corinthians 5:7 says that we walk by faith not by sight. To 'observe' means to look at. If we are walking by faith, we are not focused on the circumstances, we are focused on the Word of God.

God is faithful even though we fail to heed (obey) what He saith to us. There's no hiding place because the word says, “The earth and the fullness there are His. This world belongs to God, he's The Creator.

"Lying vanities" can also be our feelings, .. intellect and emotions.
  • Elizabeth Paul on Jonah 2 - 12 years ago
Wherever we are, God Almighty is there. We cannot hide from him. No matter how high and mighty we claim to be. He is our creator. We owe him a duty. What duty to obey him when He commands us to work for Him.

We should rely on God and not on things that promise more than they can deliver. God's mercy prevents the worst outcome of a situation, but because mercy is not tangible we often times forfiet mercy for things that we can touch right now, but if we rely upon mercy which we can only see in the aftermath; which only tells truth, we won't go wrong. Have faith in God and the things of God only and you can never go wrong.

    @Pete,
Jonah 2: 10 ‘’And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.
After he came out of the fish belly, Jonas went and successfully ministered the city of Niniveh, which he got to repent from sin. And the LORD ultimately spared that city from destruction.
You can read the book of Jonah, it’s just around 50 verses.
    GOD bless you.

Mighty are the works of'HIS' hands, when the word of the 'LORD' finds you, just obey my mom said you can run, you can hide. but there's no hiding place. If you go to the depths of the sea, HE'S there

At this point Jonah can feel the water pressure change as the fish goes "down" further and further into the sea till he can no longer stand it, the smell of digesting food, the dampness, darkness so black you can't see your hand in front of your face, and his skin and hair are probably turning from pale white to nearly falling off due to the gastric juices in the air.
First Jonah cries to the Lord for this reason alone, he can no longer stand it, but he is still in the fishes belly untill he tells the Lord exactly what he he wants to hear, which is that he will fullfill his vow to preach the word, to whoever and where ever.
Later on Jonah knows that if these people repent, God will spare them, as he always does, and that bothers Jonah, so now Jonah has anger issues to deal with.
  • Daniel on Jonah 2 - 14 years ago
6 I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars [was] about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.

    DID JONAH DIED?

I believe Jonah tasted dead and brought back to life. He did not see corruption. So, it was full of miracles in this book. Gigantic fish and a dead came back to life.
