Names given by Angels identified their life purpose. The names identified who they were ordained by God. The words of the prophets of the old testament were to be full filled of the coming of the savior. Everything happened in accordance to the prophecy and could not be altered.

Salvation is only for his people - Israelites, to save them from their enemies and all that hate them. Salvation means nothing else. Luke 1:68. whatever nation took you into captivity is your enemy nation. Esau - Edom will be devoured for being our enemy. Obadiah 18. TMH hates Esau Romans 9:13. There are only 12 gates to the Kingdom and it is for Israel Rev. 21:12., Heb. 8:8.

Luke 1:13 Why did the angel sent by God to Zacharias tell him to call his coming son's name John which means "God's gift"? Why did the same angel who was sent by God to Mary tell her to call her coming son's name Jesus which means "savior" (1:31)? These names were prophetic. They were a message to us from God that he was going to give us a gift of our salvation through Jesus our Lord and savior.

1-80 above we learn of GOD's plan that would redeem the sinful human race from sin; This plan of GOD would require GOD to send HIS son into the world (through Mary) then allow HIS son to be sacrificed, thereby establishing the means for all sinners /mankind to have available to them SALVATION that they may be be Saved from the lake of fire.

He shall be great and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: 33And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. Luke 1:29-33.

And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. Luke 1:29-31

This particular verse is just one of the many quoted but misunderstood verses that's often used to justify misdeeds. Throughout the bible's pages, many men were deemed righteous such as Job 1:6. In the New Testament we have in the book of Luke 1:5-6 Zachariah and Elizabeth were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

Adoniyah: Luke 1:5-6 is Telling Us How The Parents of John Done All Things Blameless in The Old Testament. Same with Job. We are Now Living in The New Testament. We are Free From Most Things in The Old Testament. Christ is Our One Blood Sacrifice for All Who Come to Him. Forever /If You, Me or Anyone Tries to Live Like They Did---- Lake of Fire / We Can Go to The Throne Room Boldly( Hebrews 4:16

V.15; "For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, ..." How many people today seek to be great in the sight of man rather than seek to be great in the sight of God? Whoever will be great in the sight of God must be ready to apply Vs 15-17: Keep your self pure, be filled with the Holy Spirit, evangelize..

Verses 46-55~When we examine Mary's words, we see that her prayer shared the same expressions as Hannah had at 1 Samuel chapter 2. Mary was a keen student of God's Word.

Jesus, "was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin." 3 others are said to be without sin, or 'blameless' in the NT. They are Zacharias and Elizabeth, John Baptist's parents, Luke 1:6. And Paul, who testified he was, "touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless". Phil 3:6. Jesus' sinlessness qualified him to be the judge of all, "because he is the Son of man" John 5:27.
  • Eutychus on Philippians 3 - 7 years ago
"...touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless." vs 6. Paul here, and only 3 others throughout the N.T. are said to be blameless before the law. Jesus ( Hebrews 4:15), and Zacharias and Elizabeth, parents of John the Baptist ( Luke 1:6). But then, we live under a different law, faith and grace, for "Christ is the end of the law for righteous to everyone that believeth" Romans 10:4.

"Whereby shall I know this, for I am an old man...blah blah blah" An angel appears from our of the right side of the altar of incense, and you become filled with fear, and you hear the angel begin to tell you something absolutely wonderful; and with your very next breath you can't help but show how you have to maintain this stubborn false realism, and demand proof an angel from God is telling you?

"For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy." God breathed into man's nostrils the Breath of Life and he became a living soul. At the moment of conception, the living soul is replicated and begins to grow in the womb of its mother. The pure and innocent infant's soul rejoices at the voice of God's Blessed Elect because they have Jesus!

"Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee.." Many of us at first glance, have it hard to see the difference between Mary's answer and Zachariah's. But while the words of both were so similar, God knew what was the thought and intention.

"Zachariah said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this?..And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God;.." It seems amazing to us how Zachariah could answer like that; to still be so willfully unbelieving even while experiencing a heavenly visitation! It is no virtue or superiority of intellect; but a moral error! We must be people who believe the truth.

Luke was the best of the biographers of his day, bringing forth progenitors of Jesus and John, who would change the Spiritual landscape of Israel, God sending the High Priests, John and Jesus, being cousins, each having a role to play, each being miraculously born to righteous Jews! For the Jews sought out the Messiah to bring the word of God,to further their understanding of King of Kings, YHWH

Dennis; There are many things terribly wrong with what you wrote. First, and most important; God gave us the commandments with the intention of guiding our hearts in the way of holiness and love; and with the expectation that as His children we would have a heart to do them. Luke 1:6 "And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless."

Verse 19: Zechariah doubted Gabriel's words. Although this message would have been hard to believe, Zechariah should have thought back to how Jehovah God blessed Abraham and Sarah with a child in their old age and that he still had the power to perform the same miracle.

It sounds like Luke was talking to a special people, maybe even people in the medical profession.....but my most inward parts tells me he is talking to a nation of people....perhaps even his peers....

" But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity." If there is not a true repentance, and verifiable thorough-going conversion; if there is not an absolute and complete ceasing of sinning and turning one's back on the world, the flesh and the devil; all the church and Scripture quoting in the world will not get you into the kingdom of heaven!

a disciple...I believe the same concerning who the two witnesses but confused when the scriptures say John the Baptist came in the spirit of Elijah; Luke 1:17 And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord. John did die.

"..it seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto you in order, most excellent Theophilus, that you might know the certainty of those things, wherein you have been instructed." Theophilus was the High Priest at the time; and it was to confirm the fulfillment of the Scriptures, to those ordained to be the Keepers of the Holy Testimony.
