    Stephede - When Jesus was teaching here - the Gospels hadn't even been heard of; none of the N.T. was even begun being written until about 15 yrs. after the church of Jesus was begun in Acts ch. 2. EVERYTHING Jesus taught was from the O.T. He said himself the "law, and the Prophets, and the Psalms testify of me". The 15 yrs. after the ch. began - the apostles taught from the O.T.

    Luke 1 state that Jesus was in the temple(as was his habit, teaching from the gospel. He wasn't teaching The letters of Paul! He was teaching the Torah and the Prophets. The parable of the vineyard and the greedy husbandman shows how God, Father has always sent his elect to witness on earth, including Jesus, whom he raised from the dead, and still on earth their is wicked and greedy people. Julie, that is not scriptural. The seven brothers means just that seven brothers or men. We must not read anything in the Scriptures that is not there. The Scriptures interpts the Scriptures. Those religious leaders tried to trick Jesus by using the law of God given by Moses concerning marriage. They didn't believe in the resurrection of the dead. Praise God!
  • Julie kalashnikoff on Luke 20 - 8 years ago
    The seven brothers represent the seven books of the Law in the Old Covenant. The wife is the Bride of Christ. There were no children from any of the 7 brothers because they represent the law showing man's imperfection. A picture of lack of intimacy with God. W/o intimacy there are no children/fruit. The old nature and new nature cannot be intimate

    Blessed are those of the body of Christ, his Church. Our God, the Holy One of Israel our Savior, is risen, He LIVES! Wisdom of Solomon 3:1 But the souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and there shall no torment touch them. Luke 20:38 For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him. Romans 6:9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more death hath no more dominion over him.
  • Houston on Luke 20:36 - 9 years ago
    It is my belief that a true bible resurrection is rising with an incorruptible body neither can they die anymore so it is my belief that Lazarus was not a bible resurrection but a bringing to life that he died with a natural body hence he died again or else he and the widow son is still here or Luke wrote wrong when he said neither can they die anymore!!
  • Eric on Luke 20 - 9 years ago
    Bryan, your comment on 2 2, the answer is context. In John 1:1 an "a " is completely out of context and would create multiple god 's. The first and greatest commandment is this "the Lord our God is one, and you shall worship Him with all your heart, with all your mind, with all your soul, and with all your strength. " He is ONE not many.

    LUKE 20-4...Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts 47 Which devour widows ' houses, and for a shew make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation. Sounds like the churches of today. AMEN!
  • Bryan on Luke 20:38 - 9 years ago
    why is it that the king James can put the "a " to have it say "a god " here but not have it in John 1:1 for the same Greek word and sentence structure?
  • Brianna on Luke 20:21 - 10 years ago
    This scripture is interesting. Even his enemies couldn 't deny Jesus truthful teachings. Perhaps they were trying to flatter him, or appease the crowd, but they understood that Jesus taught the truth. Because he taught the truth , he gained so much criticism from the Pharisees.

    Verses 27-36:
    1. Here again as in other parables, Jesus is going to explain a heavenly doctrine with a earthly application by using the religious leaders ignorance in attempting to trap Jesus in saying a falsehood that would not agree with the law of Moses;
    2. It would not have mattered how many marriages the Sadducees used (7 is God's number of perfection);
    3. It is a fact that God has patterns of things on earth that are in heaven ( Hebrews 9:23, 24), and marriage is no different, but what is different is patterns of this world are earthly, and the patterns of heaven are spiritual;
    4. When comparing heaven with this world you must keep this at the forefront of a comparison;
    5. We are married and given in marriage (man and woman only) in this world, but in heaven after the judgment seat of Christ the bride (born again church age believers) is given in marriage to the lamb of God (Jesus Christ), Revelation 19:7-9;
    6. The bride for Jehovah God is the Old Testament saints ( Isaiah 61:10);
    7. The holy scriptures likens us to angels because they are spiritual created beings and because all angels in the bible are men (no female angels exist in the bible);
    8. There is no mention of unbelievers being married after this life in the bible, because part of their torment in hell is separation from everybody and most of all separation from God, total darkness.

    The parable of the vineyard verses 9-20, is another objective lesson from God using a physical illustration to aid Christians in understanding a spiritual application (for church age) and a doctrinal application (for Jews).
    1. God created a vineyard (heavens and earth from the days of creation in genesis one) and let man have dominion over it, and went into a far country (3rd heaven 4000 years);
    2. Then God began to send prophets among his people (Jews mainly, 3 prophets=trinity), and of course the religious people (Jews mainly) rejected them;
    3. At the appointed time God sent his only begotten son (Jesus Christ) to retrieve the spiritual fruit and set up his kingdom, but the religious people rejected Jesus and crucified him;
    4. In verse 16 God destroys Jerusalem in 70 A.D. as foretold in the scriptures ( Mark 13:1,2), that is the end of Israel as a nation until may 14th, 1948;
    5. Verses 17, 18 are about salvation and the stone=Jesus Christ who is the head of corner (a pyramid);
    6. Whomsoever shall fall on the stone=a person coming to him in humble truth and asking to be saved;
    7. Whomsoever the stone shall fall= people who do not come to him in humble truth for salvation will be cast into the lake of fire for everlasting damnation;
    8. The Pharisees and Scribes represent religious leaders and people who do not humble themselves before almighty God and receive the absolute truth about the doctrine of Christ (salvation at the cross of Calvary 2 John 9,10).

    This chapter is loaded; in verses 1-8, Jesus teaching Christians how to answer the gainsayers that really have no interest in biblical truth, but just wanting to trap, make fun of, ridicule, or embarrass a person into saying something falsely.
    A. Answer not a fool according to his folly ( Proverbs 26:4);
    B. Give not that which is holy unto dogs, neither cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you ( Matthew 7:6).

    i really enjoyed this chapter. it shows again how the religious leaders were trying to find fault in Jesus but failed to find any imperfections. it even says that some of the spies were amazed by his answers.
  • Susan Dalton on Luke 20 - 13 years ago
    "And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection..." ( Luke 20:34-36) Man and angels are two seperate creations. Man will never be an angel. In the resurrection from the dead, we will be like unto angels: we will not marry, nor be given in marriage, and we will not die anymore; man will be like unto angels in these regards, yet, we do not die and become angels.
