It was necessary for Jesus to forewarn even the apostles of such gross sins, like these. We become foolish if we think ourselves to be immune to sin; hence Christ tells the apostles to take heed, even in things in which we may think we shouldn't dabble.
I believe (and hope) that this indicates a period of economic stability at the time of a pre-tribulation rapture. An economic collapse will follow quickly. Famines precede the Son of Man arriving in a cloud ( Matthew 24:30, Mark 12:26, Luke 21:27) and of course the Battle of Armageddon which precedes the "Second Coming" will be a period of worldwide war, chaos, and wrath.
"All things which are written" refers to all Old Testament Prophecy. What is evident then, is that nothing of a specific nature, prophesied before the end of the war of 70 AD, can be fulfilled. An example is the future restoration of Israel, foretold in the Old Testament. During the time of Christ, God used every means available to persuade His people to accept His beloved Son, and to remain faithful to Him. But many would not. Those who rejected Christ to the very end had their names blotted out of the Book of Life. While the faithful Jews had their salvation confirmed, and were Raptured, the rest were left behind, and they and their descendants remain to this day as Gentiles, in other words, blinded Jews. This, by the way, was God's last attempt to gather His people to Himself. Those who remained faithful are, no doubt, in heaven. The others, who try to live by the Law, are under the curse. At any rate, they can only be saved the same way Gentiles are saved, by faith in Jesus Christ. Isaiah 6 gives proof that no future generation of Israel will be punished for what evil their ancestors did, nor rewarded for any good things their forefathers did. And Deuteronomy 7 reveals that, while God keeps His covenants for a "thousand generations" (meaning all eternity), He only keeps his promises to those who love Him and obey His commandments.
2 Peter 3:10 is the same event as is Matthew 24:29, the heavens shall be shaken, the sun goes out and the moon turns red and then every living human will die and those who are saved will be with Christ. And those who are not of the resurrection are in their graves. The universe will melt with fervent heat the earth also. This is at the end but not before Christ stands on the mount of olives and it splits in two, Israel is defended by Christ and Satan is put in the bottomless pit.
We are living in the days that Jesus talked about on the Mount of Olives as He told the disciples of the signs of His coming Kingdom. Now that NASA has the Satellites in space observing the Asteroids and how close they are to colliding with Earth. These are indeed the fearful sights that Jesus was talking about. At the end of the tribulation the Sun will refuse to shine, and the Moon will sink in blood, as the Stars fall from Heaven, then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and great glory.
Those of you who are piling on Thomas are forgetting one very important thing. Thomas was chosen by Jesus as one of the original 12 to be called Apostles. You also forget that Jesus used ordinary men with very ordinary and extraordinary failings to counter the hypocrisy of the Pharisees and preach the Word. Yes, in the end, Thomas did come to truly believe when he saw Christ's palms and side and went on to preach the Word up until his martyrdom like all the rest of the Apostles except John. Thomas was no more an intellect than I am, but rather just and ordinary man chosen and molded for extraordinary reasons.
@Timothy comments towards doubting Thomas:
1. I agree with Clint that you cannot argue with an unbelieving such as Thomas appears to be, he will most likely be doubting until he comes face to face with Jesus himself and sees the hole in his side and nail scarred hands;
2. There is enough evidence to prove that the King James Bible 1611 is the only holy spirit inspired word of God to the English speaking people and God knowing that English was going to be the language of the world in the last days, ordained this perfectly preserved Bible in 1604-1611 by a king ( Psalm 12:6,7), and is the seventh bible translated into the English speaking language;
3. We are not suppose to answer a fool according to his folly ( Proverbs 26:4) and cast our pearls before swine ( Matthew 7:6);
4. Last week I took a few minutes to demonstrate the King James 1611 compared to the NIV to a young person in the lord, a disciple of mine and he understood immediately because he is open to truth, unlike doubting Thomas;
5. I have come across people like doubting Thomas many times, and the only thing this person is interested in doing is vacillating his intellect for others to witness just like the Pharisees and Sadducees;
6. The Sadducees deny the resurrection that's why they were sad-u-see, and the resurrection alone verifies the virgin birth ( Romans 1:4; 8:11);
7. So let doubting Thomas alone to wallow in his intellect and turn him over to God for the destruction of his unbelieving spirit;
8. There is nothing wrong with being an intellectual, but do not allow the intellect to undermine the simple faith that comes from Christ Jesus, our savior ( 2 Corinthians 11:3).
You can’t argue with unbelievers, they disparage THE WORD because they haven’t got the Holy Spirit. Satan tries millions of ways to put doubts into men’s mind and these are tools of Satan and his demons! As Christians all we can do is pray for them that God will have mercy on them and deliver them from Satan’s influence!
Bebopp. Surely your words are of none else but of someone who never believed in or even understood the faith contained in the bible. I never liked the church much myself either. But if you read the bible where is the churched ever mentioned as an institution of gods law? Where does it say that you should act like or listen to priests? The bible surely is of god but the church surely is not. Some churches might be lead by men and women of faith, some congregations surely have faithful men and women in them. But some or even many might not have a true faithful soul in them. Just cause you go to church doesn't make you free from sin. Anyone who sins knows this. But true faith leads away from sin. Read 1john2 1john2 and 1john3 and understand the message. Understand that truth and gods command only can be found in your own heart. You shouldn't listen to the world, but to your heart, your soul, the spirit god has given you. Your heart knows whats right, so feel it. And only people that are of strong will and righteous character can be people of real faith. Read the following verses. Matthew 24:5, Matthew 7:22-23. Luke 21:8Mark 13:6. Who do you think they speak of? What does your heart tell you in this matter? So follow your heart in truth and righteousness.
Dear Doubting Thomas, true the KJV was written in Textus Receptus,as instead of the Minority Report. We are not going to get in the debate about the original manual manuscripts of the bible. The KJV is the oldest contemporary copy of the Word of God, and it is the most correct translation from the Vulgate to English. Paul said the just shall live by faith. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, and the evidence of things not seen. We believe by faith that Jesus Christ was born of the Virgin Mary, suffered death of the Cross, was buried, and the third day rose from the dead. He is coming again, to judge the living and the dead. It is appointed unto man once to die, and after that the judgment. Prepare to meet thy God. Prophecy confirms the veracity of the Bible, and just wait until all prophecy will be fulfilled. Jesus said in your patience posses ye your souls. Thank God for the Bible.
So all of the other Biblical translations before the KJV were NOT the word of God? You say this version “is the oldest copy of the word of God”. How can that be? The translators of the KJV used the Texus Receptus and other documents as a basis for their translation. What about the other Gospels and Books that were left out of the cannon? Men decided what was to be in the Bible.
While we are on Virgin birth, the correct interpretation is “Born of a Young Woman” (Issa 7:14). INFACT the KJV mistranslated the Hebrew. The study of the Bible via textual criticism by scholars has shown this interpretation to be in error. In Isaiah 7, the “young woman’ is living in the time of the prophecy.
How can all of the world be taxed? The taxation story is only in Luke’s Gospel. If so, you would think that the only other birth narrative would have mentioned this? As I have stated previously, the narratives of the Gospels of Luke and Matthew don’t match. They are two different versions of a birth event. Not to mention, why would you have to travel to be taxed? What was the hurry? It did not work this way in the 1st century. The taxation event has been historically proved to be by Cyrenius governor of Syria.
Jesus said he would return (21:23). This did not happen.
Re: Doubting Thomas, Do you believe that Jesus
Christ was born of the Virgin Mary? Do you believe that Caesar Augustus proclaimed all the world to be taxed? It is true the synoptic gospels are Matt, Mark, and Luke. The Bible is the verbal plenary inspired word of God. Written in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek. The King James was translated by 47 scholars of King James I in 1611, and is the oldest copy of the word of God. Paul said in I Cor.13 we see thru a glass darkly, but when he that is perfect shall come, we will know as we are known. All of the questions about the Bible will be answered when we are face to face with Jesus. Jesus came into this world to save man from his sin. He died on the cross, was buried, and the third day he rose from the grave. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father, from which He will come again to judge the living, and the dead. Thank God that He gave you the Bible to study. Jesus said to search the scriptures, for these are they that testify of me. The Holy Spirit takes the word of God, and makes the scriptures real. If you have not received Jesus as your Savior, then you do not have the Holy Spirit abiding in you. Ask Jesus to come into your heart, and save you. He will,then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, and the veracity of the scriptures will be made known to you. So pray to the Lord: Ask, seek, and knock. The door will be opened for you. We are praying for you to make that decision. When Thomas put his hands into the nail prints of the Lord's side, he said my Lord, and my God. Jesus said blessed are you because you have seen. We are more blessed because we believe, and have not seen. When Jesus comes back, we will see Him as He is, and we shall be like Him.
Matt: 24 and Luke: 17 are just a retelling of Mark: 13. That is why these Gospels are called the synoptic Gospels, because they are seen together. The majority of Luke and Matthew are from the Gospel of Mark. These Gospels are attributed to these disciples, but were NOT written by them.
Luke: 17 is BEFORE Luke: 21, so the description of "end times" events preceded the declaration by Jesus that “Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled".
This proclamation did not take place. The "generation" did pass away.
When Jesus said this generation shall not pass away till all these things be fulfilled you have to remember all in the bible means all. We have seen some of these signs of the second coming,but all have not been fulfilled. This is the Olivet discourse, and you have to study Matt. 24, Mark 13, and Luke 17 also. The fig tree to watch is Israel, and in 1948 was the budding of the fig tree. The EU in 1957, the beginning of the revival of the Roman Empire. When Jesus spoke of the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, that event has not happened yet. So we are not that generation that He is talking about. There are no signs for the rapture of the Church, and this could happen in momment. Once this event takes place, the antichrist will come to power, and sign a false peace treaty with Israel for seven years. After 3 1/2yrs that is when the antichrist will claim to be god in the temple, causing all to receive the mark of the beast 666, and this generation that will see these things happen will not pass away, until Christ returns in glory to set up his Kingdom. Jesus said no one knows the day or the hour except the Father in heaven. We can only know that it is nigh at hand by the signs that we see today. Jesus said when you begin to see these things take place lift up your head, for your redemption draweth near even at the door. Study the book of Daniel, and Revelation to get a better understanding of the second advent of Christ.
This Gospel says that Jesus said " Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled".
The prophesy did not happen! I know the apologists can twist this around, but the fact remains (as written in Luke 21) that this prophetic event did not take place. So, if Jesus did not know, what does that tell you?
Chapter 11 is a fulfilment of the last half week of Daniel 9:24-27. The Messiah was cut off in the midst of the last week. The Prince to come, Rome destroyed the city , Jerusalem, and the sanctuary, the temple. They failed to recognize the hour of their visitation. Israel fell by the edge of the sword, and were carried captive to all nations ( Luke 21:20-24; 19:41-44), Jerusalem was left desolate (Mathew 23: 37-38). Israel was cut off from its own olive tree and the Gentiles were grafted into the good olive tree ( Romans 11:17-28). Between the ending of the 69th and and 1/2 week to the last half week the gospel turned to the Gentiles. Paul's commission ( Acts 9:11-16; 13:46-47; 22: 14-21; 26:12-18) was a fulfilment of Isaiah 42:6. In Acts 13:47 Paul says: for so hath the Lord commanded us, saying I have set thee to be a light to the Gentiles, that though shouldst be salvation to the ends of the earth; in Isaiah 42:6 it says: -- and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles. Here in Revelation 11 the time of the gentiles is fulfilled ( Luke 21:24). Israel is back in there homeland when these two witnesses begin their ministry. The Gentile church is cut off from the olive tree, spewn out from his mouth for failing to recognize the hour of their visitation( Romans 11:20-22, Rev. 3:16; Malachi 4:5-6). Revelation 11 takes place between the second and third woe, for the 5th, 6th and 7th trumpets are the 1st, 2nd and third woes respectives. These three woes are the three world wars. Between the 2nd and third woe Israel is back in there home land; at the same time the Gentiles receive their last message ( Revelation 10). The Gentiles fail to recognize the hour of their visitation. It is the hour of wrath, God recompenses tribulation to them that trouble the bride ( 1Thessalonians 1:5-8). God opens a fountain of healing for Israel. There will be a fountain fountain open to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem ( Zechariah 13:10, 12:10) . God will pour a spirit of grace and supplication and they shall look upon him whom they have pierced. Revelation 11 opens Israel to recognize the feast of atonement. They will be turned from atonement of bulls and goats to the atonement of the lamb of God. The sixfold purpose of the visit of angel Gabriel to Daniel will be perfect realized to Israel in this chapter ( Daniel 9:24) . By the time of the two witness begin there ministry they will begin the temple worship ( Rev. 11:1-12). The two witnesses are killed in Jerusalem by the beast. The beast represents the gentile kingdom. Jerusalem here in Revelation 11:8 spiritually is called Egypt or Sodom. In Exodus 20:1-2 Egypt is referred to as the house of bondage. In Galatians 4:24-26 Paul likens the Jerusalem that is to the bondswoman Agar and mount sinai in Arabia, which is also in bondage with her children born after the flesh. Jerusalem from above representing the freewoman which gendereth children of the promise, born after the spirit. After the ministry of the two witnesses christ sets up his kingdom upon the earth. And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdnm under the whole heaven, shall be given to the saints of the most high, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him ( Daniel 7:27). The Messiah will sit on the throne of David in Jerusalem.
This has to be the most mistranslated vese in the Bible. If Jesus was talking about a faulse pophets here then Paul would have been tagged as one when he said "For me to live is Christ"
Jesus is talking about faulse Christians here. The decievers Jesus is talking about here are not saying that they themselves are Christ. They ar sayig that Jesus is the Christ thus most of Christanity today is included in His words.
Whether JESUS will return before or after the signs is not the most important thing, Dennis.If you should die today, you would have missed the signs.And the way you die is exactly the same way JESUS will find you on HIS return, simply because there is no repentance in the grave. So, I wouldn't worry too much about the pastors' timing because early preparation, in times of uncertainty means much,when you consider that no one or anything can withstand the wrath of GOD.
I believe Lord Jesus is telling us quite plainly here in verse 29-31 that after the tribulation we shall see the sign of His long awaited return.As confirmed in Luke 21:25-27 and Mark 13:24-27. I am preparing and expecting according to these verses to have to endure the Tribulation.
What Luke 21 is saying is surely true.Our Lord and saviour JESUS CHRIST will come to this world the second time to pass judgment on all souls.Many prophesies have come to pass.Others are currently been fulfilling,others are yet to be accomplished.yes he cometh as a thief.
Wonderful scripture in the book of Luke. Growing up in church beginning with the Holiness Church, then Baptist and as an adult selecting the A.M.E. church; how amazing that none truly taught the Bible. The eyes to my understanding came in Dallas, Texas when I joined a Non-Denominational Church that truly taught the Word of God, word by word and precept by precept.
I can relate to Mr. Cochardo's comment. Preaching is something we all can do, however to preach the Word of God is what I truly enjoy. All the whooping and screaming they can leave that for those who are so accustomed to it that they block out anything else. Love Luke 21, absolutely love it!
He will be coming with great power. There will be a fire around Him and it will be tempestuous which means, wild, raging, furious, and angry.
3. Our God shall come, and shall not keep silent; A fire shall devour before Him, And it shall be very tempestuous all around Him. Psalm 50:3.
Jeremiah speaks of the Lord as roaring from on high. It will be very tempestuous.
30. The Lord shall roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy habitation; he shall mightily roar upon his habitation; he shall give a shout." Jeremiah 25:30.
The earth will start to respond to this tempestuous God coming toward it.
19. The earth is violently broken, The earth is split open, The earth is shaken exceedingly.
20. The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, And shall totter like a hut; Its transgression shall be heavy upon it, And it will fall, and not rise again. Isaiah 24:19-20.
The earth will be self-destructing in front of the eyes of the wicked and their hears will fail them for fear. And they start to realize that it is going to get worse.
26. men's hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of heaven will be shaken.
27. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Luke 21:26-27.
In terror, the wicked will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud and they will hunt for holes and caves to craw into so they don't have to see what is coming.
19. And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.
when i first became a follower of JESUS, it was preached to me from many pulputs that JESUS was to return at any moment. after studying the end times it has been made known to me that nothing could be further from the truth.
jesus will return after the "sign" and not before. my point is that these men, these prechers where not telling the truth. make sure your pasters and priests tell you straight, no twisting nor fabricating, the plain truth. make sure they do that
