In Luke 24...The promise that Jesus our Lord spoke about to His followers is confirmed in Acts 2. Being filled with the Holy Spirit and one will receive power (dunamis; greek). Acts 2:38,39 explains that one repents, one receives salvation and one receives the promised (gift) of the Holy Spirit in His fullness. John baptized with water to repentance but Jesus baptizes in fire. When Jesus Christ ascended into heaven; He sat at the right hand of the Father on High and poured out His Holy Spirit on the believers who were already saved by the cross of Jesus Christ and His atoning blood. Now Acts reveals a gift from God which enables a true believer or believers in Jesus Christ to undergo His work on earth through His power...The result is 1st Corinthians 12 - 14; included within is the revealing of the gifts of the Holy Spirit....Jesus left us to be with His Father but did not forsake His Church but given Himself for us through His precious Spirit..
My confession of faith on Repentance is the same as written here:
"We believe in a true conversion, justification and new birth. In a true conversion there is sincere sorrow for sin and transgression, and condemnation thereof. The justification is obtained through conversion when believing upon the wrought- righteousness of Christ, becoming liberated from the debt of sin and judgement, whereby we are "born again" and renewed unto the image and nature of God through the renewing of the Holy Ghost."
Luke 24:27 ; John 1:28 ; John 3:3 ; Acts 20:28 ; Romans 1:27 ; Romans 5:1 ; Galatians 3:26
How beautiful our lord jesus is, what a touching account of his love to rise from the dead and still yet return to his loved ones to teach, explain, and expound the scriptures to them.
glorious, excellent, magnificent, most holy, most high god.
so lovely, so loving, so kind, so compassionate.
this alone is proof of your majesty jesus, that the whole world celebrates your birth and your resurrection year after year for centuries and for eternity regardless of their faith or belief.
I agree that we as believers can freely rest and be justified in God's commandments and enter into the Rest that is given through the grace of Jesus Christ.
You say "Jesus came to fulfill the commandments"?
I disagree.
Jesus came to fulfill the "law" ( Luke 24:44).
One "jot"or one tittle" of the LAW will not pass until ALL is fulfilled ( Matthew 5:18)
These are powerful words from Jesus that should not be dismissed or overlooked. ALL has not been fulfilled yet, therefore the LAW still stands.
Love is the fulfilling of the LAW ( Romans 13:10)
That means that the LAW is still in effect.
Only ONE person that ever walked the earth did not NEED the LAW.
The rest of us need repentance every day, because we break the law every day.
The death and resurrection of Jesus fulfilled blood and other certain ORDINANCES of the Law, but did not abolish the LAW itself.
How can we "rest" in His commandments when we break them?
Our rest comes through faith in our repentance and His promise of forgiveness and a new standing in Him from that.
Paul speaks to the scoffers starting in verse 35 of 1 Corinthians 15 to explain the nature of those resurrected.
In Luke 24:36 Jesus, resurrected, appears to the disciples bodily. He then encourages them to examine him and see that he has flesh and bones. Then he ate some food. Though he was glorified, yet he retained his human nature.
Likewise in John 20 and 21 the disciples have encounters with Jesus physically.
We can trust that we will be made like him ( Romans 8:29).
Right on! Just as Johah said; "Three days AND three nights" Jonah 1:17.
Jesus died on what we call Wednesday just before sundown.
Wednesday sundown to Thursday sundown = 1 day (first night and day in the tomb)
Thursday sundown to Friday sundown = 1 day (second night and day in the tomb)
Friday sundown to Saturday sundown = 1 day (third night and day in the tomb)
Mary came to the sepulchre at daybreak Sunday.
Look at Matthew 12:40.
Jesus rose at some time between Saturday sundown and Sunday morning.
The "high day" of John 19:31 was the first day of the feast (Passover), and is considered a high holy Sabbath day.
The first day of the Feast was a Thursday (15th day of Nisan- April 3/4). The 15th day of Nisan commenced at sunset on what we would still call the 14th.
Jesus was crucified on the 14th, the "preparation day" ( John 19:31), and by law the crucified bodies should not remain on the cross on a Sabbath day. Jesus was put in the tomb before sunset on Wednesday the 14th.
The "first day of the week" ( Matthew 28:1, Mark 16:1-2, Luke 24:1, John 20:1-), the day of the Resurrection, was from our Saturday sunset to Sunday sunset.
Jesus was to be the Lamb slain, and His crucifixion took place on the "preparation day" ( John 19:14) when all lambs were slaughtered for the great Passover Feast the NEXT day.
The Last Supper DID NOT take place on the day of Passover, look at Matthew 27:62, Mark 15:42, Luke 23:54, John 19:14, John 19:31-42.
The "third day" of Matthew 16:21 is not the third day of the great Feast, but the third day of our Lord and Savior being in the tomb.
Jesus died on what we call Wednesday just before sundown.
Wednesday sundown to Thursday sundown = 1 day (first night and day in the tomb)

The Hebrew calendar used at the time of Jesus counted a full day from sunset to sunset, not midnight to midnight.
The Hebrew 24 hour period of time is broken up into two 12 hour segments. The first segment is from 6 pm until 6 am. The second segment is from 6 am until 6 pm.
The "third hour" of the day in Mark 15:25 when Christ was crucified is 9 am
The "ninth hour" when He gave up the ghost is 3 pm.
WHY DO PEOPLE NOT REST ON THE SABBATH DAY / SEVENTH DAY?
And God RESTED on the SEVENTH DAY.
And God BLESSED the SEVENTH DAY and SANCTIFIED the SEVENTH DAY.
Many have changed the day of rest from the SEVENTH DAY to the first day.
There are TWO Biblical reasons people believe this.
1) The first day of the week is the day that Matthew 28:1, Mark and Luke 23:55, 24:2 relate that the sepulchre was opened and Jesus was not found there.
2) During the 40 days that Jesus was on earth before He rose into heaven He appeared to His disciples seven times. Five of the seven times Jesus met with them on the FIRST DAY of the week. The other two times, the day is not mentioned. Look at Mark 16:9-13, Mark 16:14-18, Luke 24:13-33, Luke 24:34, Luke 24:36-44, John 20:11-23, John 20:26-29.
None of the examples given above concerning the FIRST DAY of the week allow any authority for us to change the SEVENTH DAY to the FIRST DAY.
Jesus NEVER GAVE AUTHORITY TO DO THIS.
( Mark 2:27-28) "And he said unto them, The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath."
If we believe in the Father and His only begotten Son, then we have Christ in us every day, not just one day per week.
This new understanding is an enhancement of the 7th day, not the abolishing of it. It was made to last FOREVER. This is a day that God BLESSED and SANCTIFIED!
Christ ALWAYS honored the Sabbath.
The Apostles kept the Sabbath AFTER CHRIST DIED; look at Acts 13:14, 27, 42, 44, Acts 16:13, etc.
Pentecost is a holy SABBATH day; i.e. a day of rest.
In Acts 17:2 and Acts 18:4, Paul is continually feeding the people Scripture on the SABBATH. Christ never abolished the Sabbath; neither did Paul. God never said anything concerning that fact, and if He wanted that day changed He would have made it abundantly clear.
Further study concerning the importance of the Seventh Day can be found throughout ALL Scripture; as well as in the Book of Enoch.
To receive Christ is to receive His Spirit. One cannot receive Christ without receiving the gift of the HolyGhost. If we do not receive Christ, we are none of His ( Romans 8:9). There are two different Spirits. This same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead is the same Spirit that was poured out on Pentecost(Acts2:1-4). I have received of the same Spirit, the HolySpirit. I have witnessed countless others receive the Same Spirit that fell on the Day of Pentecost. Jesus spoke of another Comforter ( John 14:16-18; Acts 1:8) that was available to all who would receive it. He said repentance and remissions of sins would be preached in His name ( Luke 24:47) beginning at Jerusalem. This gospel has been preached for over two thousand years. I have witnessed people being healed from all forms of disease: cancer, aids, Lukemia, etc. I witnessed demons cast out of people who were possessed with them. I have witnessed the amazing power of the HolyGhost transform gang members into preachers; prostitutes into missionaries; drunkards into deacons; lost souls mixed up in Islam, New Age, Buddhism, and other false doctrines in born again believers. The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead; is raising believers in the newness of life. I seen miracles wrought right before my eyes: I have seen the blind( literally blind, a man that has a glass eye and his other eye totally blind) see out of both, legally blind eyes. I have a man's leg grow to meet the length of his good leg. I have witnessed barren women give birth to not one, but three children. I have seen God raise people from Comas, from literally death( one woman was dead for 12 minutes resuscitate to life after I prayed for her in the name of our Risen Savior Jesus Christ. He said greater works would we do. The Bible is a living, God-breathed book; it is not like Shakespeare, Milton, Steinbeck, or Melville. It is the power of God. This is why I talk about receiving the HolyGhost-it is the life changing power of God.
I just read your comment. God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world and received into glory. God did this all by Himself. God was manifest( made visible in the flesh of Jesus Christ). He is the Father of creation, the Son ( his flesh) in redemption; and the Holy Ghost in the church. The idea of a triune Godhead is not found in the Bible. Read Isaiah 9:6; Isaiah 43:10-13; St. John 1:1-14; St. John 17:6; St. John 8:21-24; St. John 14:9-10; Luke 24:44; Colossians 1: 13-16; Hebrew 1:1-4; I John 1:1-3; Revelation 1:13-20; Revelation chapter 5. These are only a few of the scripture that validate the Oneness of God. God has many names and many attributes. He appeared in many theophanic forms in the Bible. But His greatest revelation to man was as the Man Christ Jesus. Jesus is His Saving Name. Jesus is God. God is Jesus. From Genesis to Revelation, there has only been one God, One Spirit, and One Savior. Ephesians 4:4-5 tells us that there is one Lord, one faith, and one baptism. One God and Father of all...God does not have three personalities in His head. God is our savior; and He loved us so much that He was willing to die for us and rise again for our salvation. What an awesome God that we serve!
Dennis: this is what the scriptures say about REMISSION of sins.
Matthew 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
Mark 1:4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
Luke 1:77 To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,
Luke 3:3 And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;
Luke 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 10:43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
Romans 3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
Hebrews 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
Yes Chris..and in the time we are in right now..these scriptures come to mind John 12:25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal and Luke 24:44And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
Matthew 26:39And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. Blessings Chris..I believe this time is soon upon us
This scripture is miss used as much or more than any other in the bible. ( Luke 6:37)
1 Corinthians 6:2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters
1 Corinthians 6:10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
Ephesians 5:5 For this ye (know), that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
Revelation 21:8 and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
That unlike some churches today , they were prevented from reading the old testament, that the church then, like today, would have the power to make people believe in false doctrine.Teach only the law ,faith by works. Clearly Christ taught and proved who he was ,the messiah. The word was made flesh and dwelt among us. Christ reveals the Father and the Son. While, we who through faith, are born again in the knowledge of God, we become his witness unto the ends of the world! Christ healed those who could not SEE, or HEAR, the DUMB, LAMB. This is the power in His word, not only the physical, but the spiritual deaf, dumb, and blind.those that have ears to hear, eyes to see. Christ is to save us.
The name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost is Jesus Christ Matthew 28:19, Peter 2:38 . Jesus commanded the Apostles that repentance and remission of sins must be preached in his name Luke 24:46-47 . All demonstration of baptisms were done in the name of Jesus Christ or Lord Jesus no one was simply baptized in Jesus' name or Father, Son and Holy Ghost .
Until they conform to the Apostles doctrine, which is being born of the Water and the Spirit, i.e. John 3:3 and Acts 2:38, they cannot be saved. This is universal and goes for anyone, who isn't born again.
Not recognizing Jesus was due to Jesus himself not wanting them to until he was ready. Teaching them from the scriptures was his plan, finally revealing himself at the chosen time.
Acts 2:38John 3:3-5Acts 2:38 Mathew 28:19 "Name" singular not Names plural plus Father son Holy Ghost are not names but titles. Acts 2:38Mark 16:16Acts 2:38Luke 24:47Acts 2:38Mark 1:4 Mathew 3:11 Acts 2:28Acts 4:12
romanisim, russian orthodoxy are cults who worship idols, thats right they say they just venerate which is worship. exodus 20-2. 1st cor9-10 no idol worshipper in mary, st.ann st. theresa, the pope, st.joseph i could go on and on this is a cult which the lord jesus saved me out of o pray for lost souls in these cults we need to reach them with the real jesus of the bible, the mass is blaspheme.
Luke 24:47 ...repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations... Also in Rev.14:6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people. Rev 14:6-12 Is the three angels message..It is for this time that we now live in..
Luke 24:32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures? My heart burned within me when I was saved. It seemed that every word out of the preachers mouth was aimed at me. My wife also was saved the same day.
James and John, Zebedee s sons, are always mentioned together. Mary and Jesus brothers sisters travel with Jesus. NO Joseph. John 2:12, Mark 3:31, Mark 6:3. Mary is the wife of Cleophas. John 19:25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene. Cleopas KNEW all about Jesus because he married Mary. Luke 24:18, 22, 24, 31
LUKE 24 is a beautiful chapter...can you imagine having CHRIST appear to you, sit, eat and talk with you! HOW AMAZING THAT WOULD BE!!! What amazes me also is how they had the old testament to teach them about Christ and yet they still didn't know Him. Also how HE had spent time with them and worked miracles in front of them and they still didn't understand Him nor recognize Him when they saw HIM.
maritza, thank you for your post. i do believe that anyone who calls upon the name of the Lord can be saved. The question is whether or not it is right to have objects of worship, or idols in our lives, homes etc. You are also right that preachers that sell kerchiefs for healing are bunk! it may be that God chooses at times to use things as instruments, like the widows jars or other things.

The justification is obtained through conversion when believing upon the wrought- righteousness of Christ, becoming liberated from the debt of sin and judgement, whereby we are "born again" and renewed unto the image and nature of God through the renewing of the Holy Ghost."

You'd want to know what that tv can do?
Same thing. The Bible is the Owners Manual (Jesus). These following scriptures are enough to show that you need to come to know what you have.
Desire the pure milk of the Word. Strong meat belongs to them that are exercised in their faith.
Matthew 11:29
Take my yoke upon you, and LEARN of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
John 12:26
If any man serve me, let him FOLLOW me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.
Mark 12:24
And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because YE KNOW NOT the scriptures, neither the power of God?
Luke 24:45
Then opened he their understanding, that they MIGHT UNDERSTAND the scriptures,
Matthew 22:29
Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, NOT UNDERSTANDING the scriptures, nor the power of God.
Luke 4:21
And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.
John 20:9
For as yet THEY KNEW NOT the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.
Comment: strong meat makes your hair stand on end, your eyes wide and mouth drop, saying: WOW!!
