I understand that the word 'corn' may not seem to fit the time of Jesus; the Greek word was 'sporimos,' translated in the KJV as 'corn fields,' which refers to grain fields. The Greek word 'Stachus,' translated in the KJV as 'ears of corn,' meant in Old English, heads of grain or spikes of grain, the part that contains the seeds.
In Old English, 'ear' was used in the 800s, 'corn' in the 1100s. 'Corn' was used for any single grain, such as wheat, barley, or oats. The corn we know today is actually maize; the name 'corn' was adopted in the 1800s. Jesus and the disciples were probably eating wheat, as it says, rubbing it in their hands, they were separating the wheat from the chaff.
Some of the Old English terms are still in the KJV; sometimes they need a second look, like corn or the word 'replenish' in Genesis 1:28. The first thought might be to refill, but back then it meant to fill up or to fill completely.
So the word "corn" comes from Germanic and was written as "korn" in some Early English sources. It literally just means grain. Maize is a better term when referring to the American crop.
How can they pluck "corn" when it was completely unknown in the Levant in Christ's time. It could not have been known until aprs Colombo in 1492 Anno Domini. It is not a quirk of translation, either. I traced the verse as far back as I could and found that even Wycliffe used "corn" instead of a more general term such as "grain" and his Bible went out in the 1380's.
Hello Lbooth1955. You've received good replies, to which I also agree. However, in attempting to read deeper into your brief question and what prompted it, I wondered, 'were you referring to the actual time that Christ called them 'apostles' and other references to that name, or to the time post-resurrection and Pentecost, when these apostles were without their Lord present & began to do all that they were taught and commanded to do'?
So if your question was to the first part of my thoughts, then Scriptures such as Luke 6:13, Matthew 10:2, Mark 6:30, Luke 22:14, and others show to me that these disciples (Gk. learner, pupil) also named apostles (Gk. messenger, one sent out), though dear to the Heart of the Lord, were by no means a part of the Body of Christ (as we understand this Body that was later formed, Romans 12:5). While they remained & served under the Old Covenant they were simply a motley group of individuals, specially selected by Jesus to learn, to experience the Son of God first-hand, and to increase in faith and love, so that when they would be transformed & "endued with power from on high", they would be the very first 'founding members' upon which the Church (the Body of Christ) would be built upon ( Ephesians 2:20).
In summary, under the Old Covenant, though called 'apostles', these men were not "included in the Body of Christ". But when the New Covenant in Christ's Blood was ushered in and all who came in faith trusting in that Sacrifice wholly for salvation, those apostles were indeed the very first to be included into Christ's Body, the Church; and upon which we stand today, or ought to stand, without any reference to the Old Covenants, Laws, and ceremonial requirements, which ended at the Cross ( Romans 10:4,5). Thus apostolic teaching remains very relevant to us now and does our Lord's; when these are altered, as some 'churches' have done, devising their own doctrines, they declare that the apostles are irrelevant even denying their Lord. GBU.
Dear Lord, as I pray for the job, I ask you to help be victorious and get a good job to serve your people, good and bad, as you instruct us in this word that Luke 6:35, says, "But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Help father in the coming interviews to be the best. Accept me, lord, and grant your favor and grace to emerge as best in Jesus Christ's name, Amen. On Monday father I was invited to Level 2 interviews. I ask to emerge as the best for the Job. Grant me your favor and grace before the panel in Jesus' name, amen. Bless me and family I ask oh lord

Let us not become judges. It is important that that we respect each other. Let us continue to fight the good fight of faith. Lord, grant
Luke 6:46 "And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?"
James 1:22 "But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves."
Matthew 7:21 "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven."
1 John 4:16 has part of the verse state that God is love; probably next to the verse "Jesus wept" the shortest sentence in the Bible. As to its implications; of course we could write volumes; and as John also stated; if all the books of the wold were used it still would fall short as to describing everything about Christ ( John 21:25). This was the Disciple; after all that Jesus loved mentioned in John 13:23 and 2 other verses also in John. It sounds rather presumptuous on the surface to make such a claim; especially in light of the other Disciples in the "inner circle" namely Peter and I believe Andrew. A study on these implications is beyond my scope or even understanding; perhaps someone else could take the reins on that...
Anyway I wanted to bring up some basic tenants related to this subject; hopefully not boring anyone with redundancy with things I have said in the past. I'm not sure who has read what likely is well over 1000 posts here; if anyone does mention something I am repeating from say 2 years ago maybe they are a bit too obsessed with me; anyway I digress...
I could start out with 1 Corinthians 13 as a homework assignment. I think I will begin with what love is NOT as for some odd reason even those claiming to be believers seem to have at best a muted sense of what God's love is. Let us examine the first and probably most obvious error
Starting with "God is love" is often the scripture touted by those who would twist scriptures
2 Peter 3:16 discusses twisting scriptures directly; although the irony here is that he was talking about difficult to understand ones while love should be pretty easy to understand. After all those who love Him are to keep His commands ( John 14:15) but this is related to Luke 6:46 in those who say "Lord, Lord" but don't do what He says. More to come....
"Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you."

"And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?"
Hi Pandakraft. You can check out the following Bible passages: Matthew 7:1-5; Luke 6:37; John 7:24 (when we do have to make a judgement, it needs to be done righteously, i.e. correctly considering the whole matter without being censorious. See also 1 Corinthians 6:1-5 for judgement in the Church); Romans 14:1-13; 1 Corinthians 4:3-5; Colossians 2:16,17; James 4:11,12.
They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace. ( Jeremiah 6:14).
When we observe scripture we see the judgment of individuals as well as whole nations. Look at Joel 2:32 for instance
And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be those who escape, as the Lord has said, and among the survivors shall be those whom the Lord calls.
Now look at this verse in Micah 3:4
Then shall they cry unto the LORD, but he will not hear them: he will even hide his face from them at that time, as they have behaved themselves ill in their doings.
Here we have examples of when God hears the call and when He doesn't. This of course can be compared with the repentance of Judas Iscariot who was sorry for the consequences of his actions; rather than recognizing Jesus as Messiah and bowing down in worship. Let this be a warning to us all.
We also see differing spiritual states in different passages; take for instance John 3:16-18
16For God so loved the world that He gave His one and onlye Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. 18Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.
It isn't enough to call out on the Lord but to do what He says. Luke 6:46 states: And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? We can call on His Name ( Romans 10:13) as an individual; or a nation facing judgment ( Joel 2:32) and this shows different contexts to this N.T. passage from the O.T. reference.
Many are called; few are chosen ( Matt. 22:14). God does the choosing; ultimately as He knows all men's hearts.
"Then I commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry.
Knowing God's wisdom is unattainable is what the end verse seems to suggest; and we see the consideration of the state of man deteriorate further in the next chapter.
Ecclesiastes 9
Verse 3-6
3This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one event unto all: yea, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.
4For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion.
5For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.
6Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.
For unregenerate men things go from bad to worse and they are indeed as verse 3 claims full of madness. However the concept in verses 5 to 6 seem on the surface to validate the "soul sleep" concept of nonexistance after death; as some say happens before the general resurrection. Clearly this is not the case and there are two ways I can see explaining this apparent paradox.
First of all the idea that Solomon was looking at things from a worldly perspective in seeking wisdom and truth is one idea. The other as I can see it is verses that describe the state of the body after death rather than the soul; which earlier passages in this text indicate leaves the body at death ( Ecclesiastes 3:21). Such a study must determine if the original verbage speaks of the body (qeber) or the soul (Sheol) as the subject matter. Verse 5 saying they no longer have a reward reminds us of Luke 6:24 where Jesus says the rich already have their reward.
Romans 12:21 states Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. I'm not sure if that is KJV but close enough...
Obviously the idea of forgiveness as stated with your other response to prayer is needed; there are many scriptures in that subject such as forgiving seven times seventy in the Gospels.
My discernment leads me to stating that there appear to be several things missing in your attempt to find relief for these thoughts. First of all; it is by His love; or Agape that we overcome and that brings healing- Isaiah 53:5; with His stripes we are healed!
Secondly; you are given the tools to serve those who "despitefully use you". ( Luke 6:28). This does not mean that you should continue to surround yourself with people that are physically or mentally abusive if it can be avoided. I pray that He delivers you from that.
Third; you need to guard against whatever vices and demonic influences the other people have that in turn can affect you. Satan comes to kill steal and destroy. You are called to set free those who the Lord places in your path; if they will not accept that then eventually you will be delivered from them.
Of course we need to keep in mind that vengeance is mine; I shall repay. ( Romans 12:19). Obviously if they hated Christ first they will also hate us as Jesus warned. Those who reject Christ are enemies of God. It is wickedness that is done in the house of God that needs to be dealt with directly; as we are supposed to be the standardbearers of truth. This is one way that so much evil has come into this society because so much is tolerated; we know that judgment begins in the house of God ( 1 Peter 4:17-19). We can speak out as the Spirit leads in warning and exhortation of judgment to come.
I will keep you in prayer and ask you for deliverance from these thoughts and the control it seems to have so you can be set free.
Christian - look for the Dave Ramsey talk show on one of your local AM radio stations. You can also google him. In 2002 I was 49 years old and $50K in debt and had missed a couple of mortgage payments. I was struggling to make ends meet in my business. Following the teachings of Jesus my entire life, I have always tried to seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness and he has always provided life's essentials. Nevertheless, I was "taking thought" about my dire financial situation. Well God did provide a door of opportunity for me to make alot more money, but it would require me to work out of town, a thousand miles from home, for 8-9 months at a time, six days a week and sometimes seven for 12-14 hours a day, while living in a hotel room. My wife and I prayed about the job offer and I took it. It changed our lives forever.
I worked that job for the next 16 years and retired in 2018 at age 66. An aside . . . by 2004, after listening to Dave Ramsey on the radio discussing his 7 Baby Steps to getting out of debt, I came home to find my wife had paid off all the credit cards and college loans we had taken out for our daughter and the only debt left was our mortgage. A few years later we paid off the mortgage and have been 100% debt-free since. We have been blessed beyond measure, and I give Dave Ramsey all the credit for giving us a plan and helping to motivate us to get it done.
Luke 6:38 - Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
More specific purposes of Christ during His earthly ministry
4. Calling out of His Disciples. He spent all night in prayer prior to this event. ( Luke 6:12-13). Some may think that He had to decide who to choose; but I doubt it. That was something I would think was foreknown; especially since the son of perdition Judas Iscariot had to be picked as well although I am not sure where in scripture the initial meeting was with him; maybe someone can let me know about that. No doubt He prayed for them to readily accept Him and for obstacles from the enemy not to thwart things to come. Overall this would complicate His mission as times had to be set aside with this "inner circle" for further discussion of matters and discipling through hard sayings. This would be the beginning of the church which He would further develop in the absence after His death and Resurrection when the Holy Spirit fell at Pentecost.
5. Warning of destruction to come. The future persecutions of the Disciples and travail of the nation of Israel as a whole eventually were expanded to the birth pangs of the world in general as illustrated in Matthew 24. Everything familiar to the Jewish nation would be shook; with the destruction of the Temple and many Jews during AD 70; largely due to their blindness of Christ and who He was ( Matt. 23:37). He deliberately talked very little about ruling and reigning in the Millennial Kingdom as no doubt that was the expectation and hope even of the Disciples at that time of His soon arrival in that mode. This is mentioned in Acts 1:6 as something alluded to have happened earlier.
6. Always considering others needs above His own. Jesus came to serve and not be served. ( Mark 10:45). This could perhaps be best demonstrated in His statement to John when hanging on the cross ( Luke 19:25-29). It appears Joseph was dead at this time and Jesus knew John would live the longest so he was to take Mary in.
Hi KidinChrist. If I may add something to this discussion: you're correct that God has no love for Satan & his cohorts, as they have received their initial punishment for their disobedience to their Creator & usurping their position, by being banished from God's Presence. Now they await for their final punishment in the Lake of Fire ( Revelation 20:10).
But as far as God's Love for mankind, in spite of those who hate Him & dabble in all types of wickedness or raising their fists against Him, we know from the Word that this is still the day of Salvation that is offered to them and to each one of us. While there is time, the Gospel that went out after the ascension of our Lord is still the same Gospel that goes out today - the only one that offers God's Salvation, demonstrating His Love for all. If God hates such sinnners now, then the salvation message is useless to them & they would be forever doomed. But we have no such instruction from the Bible, except that which was given to the disciples of Christ to 'go into all nations, teaching, baptizing, and to obey'. But if any would not receive them or hear them, they were to depart from there, 'shaking the dust from their sandals as a testimony against their obstinacy'.
And yet, Jesus taught an important aspect of God's Love & God loving all, in Luke 6:32, "For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them." We can easily understand this verse when we apply it ourselves, but the same principle applies to how God loves us. If God only loved those who returned their love to Him, how does that reflect on God's attitude to both the loving and unloving towards Him? We might fail in this by showing love & favor to those who are kind & loving towards us & not so (or, not so much) to those who despise us, but does God behave as we do, we who have carnal tendencies? If Jesus' Words & Life perfectly reflected His Father, then we know that God still loves all sinners.
2 Esdras 15:46-49 and Revelation 17: 5 are identical descriptions of Rome.
Asia in this Context is Asian Minor which at the time of writing was held by Rome and is also identified as Asia in Revelation 1:4
Mystery Babylon is the Roman Empire, 2 Esdras above is speaking about Constantinople which the Ottoman Turks vanquished. The Roman Empire at the time contained the cities of the 7 churches in Revelation 1 and 2. Those 7 churches were cities within the Roman Empire at the time of writing.
Just as the Bride of Christ as a woman is a church, so too is the Whore and the Harlot daughters. The Bride of Christ is the true Church. The Whore and the Harlot daughters are false churches. They take the name of Christ, but they don't follow the Commandments of God. Specifically, they reject the 4th Commandment and in doing so they break all of the others too.
Luke 6:46
"And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?"
Matthew 15:9
"But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men."
Mark 7:8
"For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do."
Isaiah 4:1
And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying, We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, to take away our reproach.
These Harlots and the Whore wear polluted Spiritual clothing. They eat Spiritually polluted bread. (They taint and serve polluted teaching as if it were the word of God) They claim to be Christian, but are Christian in name only, because they reject God's Commandments and teach doctrine of men in it's place. Those 7 women are the churches in Revelation 1 and 2. That man is Jesus Christ. The Whore is the Roman Catholic Church and the Harlot daughters are the churches that broke away, IE. Protestant, Baptist, etc... All keep Sunday rather than Saturday as Commanded and practice pagan rites/idolatry.
to give to anyone who ask, I have family members who will constantly ask money, food, just about anything, but refuse to get a job or apply for assistance. I am on oxygen 24/7 and I live on a small disability check, and gladly pay for help around the house but they act like I have unlimited resources. My question is should I keep giving to them when my money is tight, I know God has always made way for me but I get tired of worrying about making ends meet.
Luke 6:20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.
This word "blessed" MAKARIOS means to experience the fullness of someone or something. And the word "poor" in this verse (PROKOS) means physical poverty! Now remember the Lord has His disciples there. He has got the 12 apostles that He has just appointed, and He's looking at them, and He's teaching the crowd, and He says pay attention here people, the fullness of God is experienced and is upon the life of the poor!
Luke 6:27 - And after these things he went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he said unto him, Follow me.
The word "saw" in the Greek text is not your normal word (BLEPO) to see somebody, but actually Jesus observed him. Jesus was studying him and watching him.
And the word "publican" means a tax collector.
Luke 6:32 For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.
The word "thank" here is the word grace in the Greek text. It reads what grace do you have?
Luke 6:35 - But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days.
In the Greek, it's an act of violence. He is violently removed from them, and then shall they fast in those days. He will be taken away, it will be a time of grief, and then they will fast.
Luke 6:37 - And no man putteth new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish.
Again, the word "bottles" is not what we think in English. The Greek tell us that these are wine skins.
Luke 6:40 - The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.
The word "perfect" is the word KARATEIDZO. This is the same word used for the fishermen who were mending their nets when Jesus came to call them.
Luke 5:18 - And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him.
Again, this word palsy tells us that this man was a paralytic, paralyzed from the neck down. Please don't get the wrong idea about this bed because it was like a cot that just rolls up. And these men, the carriers, we are told in Mark that there were four of them. Four people that brought this paralyzed man to Jesus, and they were seeking the means to bring him in, and to lay him before him.
Luke 5:22 - But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts?
Jesus perceived their thoughts. And you see, they didn't say it out loud, they were thinking it. DIALOGEIDZOMAI is the Greek word. They were dialoguing in their minds. Who does this guy think He is? That is blasphemy. The Lord says "I know what you are thinking." And so, He answering said unto them, "What reason you in your hearts?"
Luke 5:24 - But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house.
Again, this could be translated (he said unto the paralyzed man).
Luke 5:26 - And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange things to day.
The Greek work for "strange things" is PARADOXSOS, and it's where we get our word paradox from. What they were literally saying was, "We have seen a paradox today!" In our English text, we can go in many different directions as to what "strange things" might mean.
Luke 6:6 And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered.
A man whose right hand was withered. Literally in the Greek, it is shriveled up, or shrunk.
Consider for a moment someone who is kind and considerate all his life to friends; family and others but either doesn't believe or never shares the Gospel with them. Many would say "he is a good man"-and we are reminded of those who said that about Jesus or that He was a prophet but not recognized as God in the flesh.
Meanwhile consider someone else who is characteristically gruff; loudmouthed; opinionated and overall a pain to be around who takes the time to correctly explain the Gospel; but of course befitting his usual character doesn't show empathy or bothers to listen much to any responses or otherwise be very helpful even with practical needs that are obvious to others such as atheists who reach out.
Natural man; of course would hang out with the first person and be repulsed with the second; but in all fairness the second person is the one who gives a message in which eternity hangs in the balance. Such a case study of course isn't to justify such an approach to witnessing; but to also avoid what is far WORSE; that is showing all sorts of compassion to someone but WATERING down the Gospel; and not giving a clear warning of the deadly and eternal destruction which every unbeliever is about to face as life is as a vapor.
Luke 6:26 Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.
John 12:43 For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
John 5:44 How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only
Luke 16:15 And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.
Galatians 1:10
For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God? Or am I striving to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ.
Praise and highly esteeming a brother seems rare today but it can be edifying

I hope this helps.
God bless,

GBU.

Matthew 28:19
"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:"
Acts 2:38
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."
John 3:5
"Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God."

When we read part of verse 15 we read:
Agape. Rich P
( Luke 6:28)
In a way, they are using you. So pray they can understand or pray God will provide you with money.
God bless.
to give to anyone who ask, I have family members who will constantly ask money, food, just about anything, but refuse to get a job or apply for assistance.
