The accounts of the transfiguration show us how Jesus did humble Himself to become one of us. The transfiguration revealed Jesus as He truly is, exalted, awesome, majestic, and glorious. What an amazing experience for the apostles who Jesus chose to reveal this to. This revelation stuck with these apostles the rest of their lives as being one of the most significant. Of course the resurrected Jesus was the most profound and miraculous event of all, but he appeared to the disciples as they had ordinarily had experienced Him, although He was able to appear and disappear at will.

The transfiguration did show the value of the Kingdom Jesus taught was at hand. The Kingdom is Jesus. It is not a government entity, but a relationship with the divine Son of God. John, in chapter 1, spoke of Jesus being the "light" that shines for all. So, it is interesting to note that in this Transfiguration that Jesus is the source of the light that shone out from Himself. Isaiah 9:2 says that "people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined." This is a messianic prophecy of the coming of Jesus, the Messiah, who bought in the Kingdom of the Messiah, which brings eternal life to those who believe on Him.

Jesse no offence but your take on the transfiguration is lacking....In all 3 of these transfigurations his raiment was white as snow....He was presenting to God a glorious Church without spot of wrinkle b/c of his blood....Its the Church that is that city on a hill that is the light of the world...As Matthew 5:14...He was impling that the Church is his raiment that is white as snow....i was in need of raiment and you clothe me...As Isaiah said he wd stain all of his raiment...which is the Church...There is no fuller on earth that can whiten us like his blood....Tho your sins be as scarlet ( the church) they shall be white as Snow...His Raiment was white as Snow....His face, his image was changed simply b/c he is gonna be married to the Church the bride...Thus we are gonna be made 1 with Christ the Bridegroom....We are that city set on a hill that is supposed give the world a light... Hello Jesse . I read your reply to Lisalou and enjoyed it . The reason I gave the reference of Acts chapter 7 verses 55 and 56 is because I believe that Stephen did actually get a vision of Christ in his Father's Kingdom and , if we keep reading verses 57 and 58 , we see that those Jews who heard Stephen say , Behold , I see the heavens opened , and the Son of Man standing in the right hand of God , were deeply offended by this and it seems that this is what prompted them to stone him to death . In Mark chapter 14 Jesus says to the high priest , in verse 62 , ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power , and coming in the clouds of heaven , the high priest responds , What need we any further witnesses ? In Luke chapter 16 , just before Jesus says , There be some standing here...etc , he is talking about people loosing their life for the gospels sake , verses 24 through to verse 28 . So he prefaces his statement about some standing here with people loosing their life for his sake , which of course we all know Stephen was the first Christian martyr . If you are wondering when the high priest shall receive his similar vision , I believe that will be when he is ressurected , Zechariah chapter 12 verse 10 . I'm new to this so please excuse me while I learn how to explain myself better ! I hope people will be patient with me .

Something that is unfortunate is that Orthodox rabbis use this verse to prove the Jesus Christ is not the Messiah because Jesus said there are some standing right here that will not taste of death until they see the Kingdom of God. They say that the Kingdom of God still has not been established on the earth, and the disciples are dead, so what Jesus said is not true. That is the way they see it.

But we know better. Peter, James, and John got to see the kingdom of God come before they died. They got to see Jesus completely transformed. In Luke 9:29, that word glistering, the Greek word represents emitting a light, not reflecting, but emitting. The light was actually coming out from Him, and it is the word that is used to describe lightning. So, you can imagine what the scene was like. It was not reflected light. It was not a spotlight coming out of heaven to shine on Jesus. He was literally transformed into His body of glory in front of them.

If I may offer another perspective on this, we see Jesus saying this also in Matthew 16:28, and Mark 9:1. If you notice, after all three presentations, it immediately goes into the transfiguration of Christ. Matthew ends at Verse 28, but as soon as you go to Matthew 17:1, it talks about the transfiguration. It's the same thing right after Mark 9:1 and Luke 9:27.

When Jesus said, "there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God," I believe He was speaking of Peter, James, and John. They were the ones who Jesus took with Him up into the mountain to pray. They were the ones that were there to witness the transfiguration of Jesus.

Luke 9:29 tells us that as he was praying, the fashion (literally outward appearance) of his countenance (or face), was altered. In the Greek text, it just uses the word HETEROS. His face became different. But even with the Greek word HETEROS, meaning different in kind than He was before, it wasn't a physical change. It was a physical change into a spiritual change. Matthew uses the word metamorphosis, meaning completely transformed. In the Greek text, it just uses the word HETEROS. His face became different.

Now in Matthew Chapter 16, it is unfortunate that Verse 28 was placed in Chapter 16 because Verse 28 goes with Verse 1. Sometimes bible commentaries will stop at the end of Chapter 16 and do a five-page presentation of what Verse 28 means. All they had to do is say go to Verse 1, that there are some standing here that will not taste of death until they see the Son of Man coming.

He is speaking of John, I'm guessing. John was taken up to heaven and saw everything in the book of Revelation, which included Jesus' return. It could be that other apostles had these visions as well. So, John did see Jesus' return before he passed away, technically. That's my best guess.

In Luke 9:27, "...some standing here today will not see death till they see the Son of Man Coming in His glory."

How is this possible? Is Jesus saying one of His disciples never died?

John the baptist was his forerunner who came in the office of Elisha to prepare the way. Malachi 4:4-6.

This was the baptism of John.

Acts 19:4. "This baptism was only for Israel." John was preparing the way!

Christ has not yet given charge to his disciples to go out to the ends of the earth to "IDENTIFY/BAPTIZE" the Gentiles with the gathered sheep of Israel.

In-fact he didn't send them until AFTER he died on the cross and rose from the dead to atone for the sins of the whole world.

All the offerings and ordinances was a foreshadow of things to come.

Daniel 2:34 shows how the stone will crush all world empires (symbolized by the various metals in the human figure from Nebuchadnezzar's dream). This shows the stone as symbolic of Christ; THE Rock who will come back and vanquish His enemies and grind them to powder (see Malachi 4:3). Those who are stubborn will be broken suddenly; and without remedy. ( Prov. 6:15).

We are to have a broken and contrite spirit ( Psalm 51:17). That is "falling on the rock". Again; those who would not have Him rule over them will be killed ( Luke 19:27). Thence; our rebellion needs to be broken and our old selves made dead through a new heart replacing a stony one ( Ezekiel 36:26). This allows purification and refining through sanctification whereas a stone remains hardened and is thus crushed to powder. This will be the fate of an individual as well as a nation (or empire) as a whole that is left behind in the Tribulation ultimately; those "earth dwellers" used in Revelation 3:10 and apparently in 8 other verses in that book. That shows where the heart of men as well as their physical presence is if they are "not written in the Book of Life" ( Rev. 13:8) and the end result is to worship the final "Beast" who is an amalgamation of the previous 4 empires (Babylon; Greece; Persia and Rome). This also is shown in a prototype with the image in Daniel 3 which was commanded to be worshipped.

Indeed Elijah becomes Elias in NT, like Isaiah becomes Esias. Since the New Testament was written for greek speaking people the authors of the 4 gospels used the greek forms of those hebrew names.

So at a time the apostles asked Jesus ( Mark 9:11-13), "And they asked him, saying, Why say the scribes that Elias must first come?" Jesus answered to them , "And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought. But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him."

Jesus is refering to the prophesy written in Malachi 4:5-6, "Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse."

And He tells His disciples that Elias has indeed come, he was actually John the Baptist. Jesus' words "as it is written of him" are refering to Elias coming before Jesus and restoring things for Him, not to what happened to him.

Praise God for that great testimony Tyler1222. It is the Lord Himself Who can minister to us where all our pain & ignorance lie - even dealing with those areas where modern medicine cannot reach. As Malachi 4:2 declares: "...unto you that fear my name (the LORD's Name) shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings...". Oh that we might experience the Son's special healing in every area of our lives, to His praise & Glory. 2 Thessalonians 1:11,12.

Relationships and the fullness of life.

There are two different things that change in our lives when becoming Born again. There may be need; for the sake of the Kingdom of God to abandon friends and family. This takes into account our love being greater for God than anyone else i.e. those who don't "hate father and mother; etal ( Luke 14:26) cannot be my disciple". The normal explanation here is our relative love is greater for God than family. I would suggest a better explanation would be that the cultural norms; tradition; and expectations that are resistant to the Gospel must be when causing us to sin avoided; and the resulting shunning or persecution from that community is part of the necessary collateral damage.

What this does NOT mean is that men decide to divorce their "pagan" wives for a different "Christian" women; who just coincidentally is younger and more attractive than their marriage partner more than statistical averages would suggest....

It also doesn't mean we don't help widows in our family and those in need there lest we be considered "worse than a pagan" ( 1 Tim. 5:8). We can look at Jesus' example; He was the Son of God so His statement that those who were His mothers; brothers etc were those who did the will of God ( Mark 3:35) may be a bit harsh. Nonetheless; He knew at that point even some of his family didn't believe in Him. ( John 7:5). Ultimately; He said to John "behold your mother" during His greatest agony on the cross; thus exemplifying the love for Mary once Joseph clearly had passed. ( John 19:25-27). Now John would be as a son; also showing how we are put into God's adoptive family in John's case.

Malachi 4:6 discusses restoring fathers hearts to children; and vice-versa. This could be prophetic for those looking ahead toward the Church Age. One believer CAN bring about further repentance and belief among family members; as happened with Paul and the jailor; for instance. ( Acts 16:29-34). John 10:10 therefore can happen

Psalm 58.

I had done a commentary on this 7 months ago. In systematically studying the Psalms I am reflecting today on my own life. In assessing old habits; old hobbies and other things I realize that all things that I do now if they aren't motivated by Christ and the new life in me then they are still being desired by the old sin nature. As part of the "congregation" in verse 1 (the confessing church) I need to make sure that indeed I am working out of the possession of the Holy Spirit; as nothing can ever be improved in the old nature. Thus comes the warning about the demon leaving someone and coming back with 7 worse after there is a veneer of "cleaning house" as it were. ( Matthew 12:43-45).

Nothing is done well in isolation in our Christian walk. We need the balance of others in order to hold us accountable; exhort and encourage. Nonetheless; it is up to us to take time for personal devotionals and to heed to the voice of the Lord in regard to instruction. If we aren't listening to Him when alone then we are not likely to heed to the instruction and wisdom from above that He ministers to us through others.

There are references here to the wicked in regard to physical and spiritual (eternal) judgments (v. 6-9). Verses 10-11 show how the righteous will rejoice and "wash their feet in the blood" of the wicked (v. 10). (see also Malachi 4:3). This demonstrates that even now we should desire our own death; while still hoping for the soon Rapture/Resurrection of the saints. We need to heed the message in regard to Lot's wife and not have our hearts till turned to the world and away from the Lord. This takes daily discipline and is a struggle as long as we remain in this fleshly existence. This also demonstrates who is truly saved and who is not as there is no real love for Christ for those pretenders. May we examine our hearts today and daily. ( 2 Cor. 13:5).

Hi Lollyman7. There are several Scriptures that speak of this 'coming of Elijah'. Those which you quoted: John 1:19-28 and Matthew 11:14. You can also see this in the earlier prophecy of Elijah, found in Malachi 4:5,6, & then we see Elijah with the Lord & Moses in Matthew 17:1-8, with the answer to this dilemma found in Luke 1:13-17. And to quote this in part: "And he (John) shall go before him (Jesus) in the spirit and power of Elias (Elijah), to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."

So, as we consider these Scriptures in entirety, we should conclude that John the Baptist wasn't the physical Elijah who was earlier translated instead of dying & then in those days appeared with the Lord Jesus. But John was the one selected & prepared of God to receive the same spirit that was found in Elijah to speak to the people with prophetical authority & drive & to be the "voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias (Isaiah)." ( Isaiah 40:3). So, John the Baptist could never say that he was a resurrected Elijah, whom the leaders were expecting, but his message & authority came with the same strength & prophetical voice as that of Elijah.

Between the fifth and sixth trumpets is tribulation. Between the sixth and seventh trumpets is the GREAT tribulation, as Jesus Christ called it himself, Mathew 24:21. We are on the heals of destruction (sixth trumpet), so that means looking back in recent history to pin point the fifth trumpet event, like 9/11/01, Revelation 9:1-11.

Do you know what occurs at the sixth trumpet, day of the Lord? The abomination of desolation, Matthew 24:15, is brought upon modern day Israel, and the world, setting forth the GREAT tribulation. The world will be a curse, Malachi 4:5-6.



We are currently in tribulation, at the tail end of the fifth trumpet, and in the midst of Revelation 17. America is pushing a $70 billion proxy war with Russia. The king of the south is facing the mighty Russian beast, whose Dec 25, 1991 deadly wound has healed into the king of the north, Daniel 11:40. It's Esau vs Jacob, leaving Jacob without root nor branch, Obadiah 1. It's also the beast and Babylon, making 3 allegories to confuse you for a lifetime if you can't make the connections.

We are literally waiting for the US/Israel to strike Iran (or the like), Revelation 6:14 sixth seal, and eventually bring about the sixth trumpet overthrow of the whole house of Israel. US NATO Israel receive their visitation.

You see, there is a big difference between tribulation and GREAT tribulation.

Psalm 21

The Psalm seems to describe a king (small k) which would signify an earthly ruler; and some of the statements from verses 1 through 7 fit that premise. Nonetheless; there are Messianic traits from verse 8 on that indicate either Christ or God Himself fulfilling justice and wrath on the earth in the future.

Verse 4; for instance could fit with promises given to the lineage of David with Solomon; for example whose reign in theory would be infinite if he had remained obedient. These promises; however were not to be met with any fallible human ruler. We see sentiments to this in Psalm 2:7-8 as to us being the reward for Christ's sufferings as His adopted Sons.

Verse 8 talks of the "right hand" of God finding enemies. The right hand of God has been used to signify Christ ( Heb. 1:3; Rev. 5:7 etal).

Verse 9 is much like Malachi 4:1 as to the description of Christ's return at Armageddon.

Verse 10 is like Isaiah 14:21 on the offspring of the wicked; and can be related to Revelation 17 and 18 as well with the final destruction of Babylon (also referred to extensively in the writings of Jeremiah).

Verse 11 reminds us of Jeremiah 18:12 as well as other Psalms in the devices of the wicked coming to naught. And verse 12 is similar to Psalm 56:9 although there are other verses that discuss God making people turn their backs before judgment is rendered.

Finally; verse 13 asks God to be exalted so we can praise Him and sing to Him because of His power. This could be singing a "new song" or other related verses ( Psalm 98:1 and of course Revelation verses).

Hello, you know, Ive been reading the book of Jeremiah and chapter 29 gives an example showing the residue of the elders being carried from Jerusalem to Babylon into captivity and then it reads how by the hand of Elasah was sent by the King to babylon.

I am supposing this be Elijah and it example of Malachi 4:5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: which convinces me of him geing one of the two witnessess. What do you think , maybe?

Rest of Revelation 19

The rest of the book discusses the return of Christ with His saints; and the capture of the Beast; False Prophet and Satan (without stating who places them in their respective places of punishment although the next chapters show an angel has sealed the bottomless pit).

There is a feast prepared for the birds of the air (v. 17-18; v. 21). God has in Isaiah 34:11 and other verses clearly considered the unclean beasts and provided for them richly (despite being unfit for man's consumption). Those who are animal lovers may not appreciate the fact that they will either be present at the wedding feast of the Lamb or themselves be part of the supper of wild beasts. No doubt these creatures will be starving themselves by this time and God isn't going to let a good meal go to waste. We should ponder this; those who are evolutionists and realize that in light of Ecclesiastes 3:19 that unregenerate men are no better than animals as to our fate. The soul of animals may go down into the earth (see verse 21 two verses later); but man is the only creature subject to eternal damnation and suffering as we see again in the same chapter; verse 11 where "eternity is put in their hearts."

The last verse in this chapter; verse 21 shows the rest of man in the battle slain with the sword (see Malachi 4:1; Psalm 2; etal). They will be placed in Sheol; the "holding place" for the damned until their turn for the lake of fire. Undoubtably their involvement in this battle and enticement by demons means that they have taken the mark of the Beast. If for some reason someone is missing arms and or has a head injury and can't take the mark the image will be worshipped which basically amounts to the same punishment.

In God's Providence He shortens the days or no flesh would survive (or be saved); see Matthew 24:22. There are interesting studies as to the mention of horses (verse 18) which also are seen in Ezekiel 38. I prefer to take that literally.

You're correct Gerry, Almighty God doesn't have wings. But we do see instances of this metaphor being used, as in Psalm 91:1-4. We see it Psalm 17:8, Psalm 36:7, Psalm 61:4, Psalm 63:7 (Psalms of David); Deuteronomy 32:11,12; Malachi 4:2; and maybe others.

As you look at these references, you will notice how the writers viewed the all-shadowing, all-protecting God over them. They might have considered the eagle gliding onto her nest with outstretched wings, and then when another bird of prey appeared to attempt an attack on the young, the mother eagle covered them with her wings - for protection & to keep them out of view. For that time in history, I think that the eagle represented a wonderful metaphor of God's concern & care to those who feared Him.

There is much speculation as to who these two individuals are but there is no need to guess. The two witnesses are Elijah from the Old Testament and John, the writer of Revelation, from the New. How do we know this? Because the Bible tells us.

Malachi 4:5 - Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD

Rev 10:11 - And he [an angel] said unto me [John], Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.

I agree with the Elijah coming in the form of John the Baptist. But Malachi 4:5 was talking about the great and dreadful day of the LORD. Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:. So we have to go in the Book of Revelation. The only verse I can relate, in my opinion is Revelation 11:3-4

And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.

Then again there are two witnesses. I went back to Matthew, Mark, Luke, for they mostly say the same thing, but Luke elaborated more.

Luke 9:30-33

And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias: Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem. But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him.

And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said. I do not know for sure about Malachi 4:5 message yet. We will pray for God to reveal His message. Thank you.
