Christian Marriage and Divorce - In Reply - 2 years ago
1 Corinthians 7
(Is a good chapter to understand the Lord's views on marriage and divorce.)
Comment: Christian marriages are not the same as marriages between unbelievers. (the world system). That's why we enter into a covenant of marriage soberly.
In Jewish culture the couple are betrothed for one year before the marriage. It's time to get to know one another. The bride-to-be would cook dinners for her betrothed and the family.

Wesley's Notes for Matthew 5:31

People's Bible Notes for Matthew
Mt 5:31,32 Whosoever shall put away his wife. The divorce laws were very lax among the Jews. A man could put away his wife "for any cause" ( Matthew 19:8). Moses directed a legal letter of divorcement ( Deuteronomy 24:1).
Christ positively forbids divorce except for unchastity. Marriage is a divine institution, and the obligation is for life.
For the Lord Jesus did only what the Father told Him. But Jesus also longed for something He knew. So when we believe and long for something we can not see with our earthly eyes. Will the vision fail, true? Not always, we have 100,000 and more that prove that a vision holds. But that vision must come from the Lord, then there is no free will.
Not One day since i bent my knee i can say i live in my own will!
Because Jesus lives in me!
Everything He did was just good. He also just wants Good. He heals me every day to think / do / live / and work for His church. If one day i have not been able to work the way I want to. I know Jesus lives in me, little me. He encourages me, leads me where i do not want to go. There are the essence friends. He leads me to pray / wake up at night, and pray. I constantly think in my spare time thinking about the Lord and His kingdom. Is it not so beloved friends? The freedom i have is to talk about Jesus, remind other people of the kingdom of God, and so on, and that by only the Grace of God. Now i was reminded of a word again also Mark 10:30 here is a clear answer that our free will is a promise on what we do not see! Chew on persecutions, i get laughed every time i come across this verse as the Lord Himself says. Stay blessed all and dont follow your own will. Be happy for something bigger than u can see will reveal in you, and even one day we meet there as Jesus Is.
Walk on the road and always be happy, know that we will come home to the Father Himself and see Jesus and all the loved ones who have gone before us. Thank Jesus Christ always.
Dear all, It says in the Holy Scriptures YES. But who wrote it? It is so easy to forget that Our dear brother Paul was a man who traveled all over the areas around Israel, all the way to Rome / Italy in fact. Jesus says nothing about the women waiting until they were spoken to. But the Master Him Self had a perfect love for the womens in His life. He taught Everyone. But the customs around where Paul went. Had customs that then meant that this was too complicated for the women. It suited very well for the men's fulfillment that the women looked after the house and at home / looked after children and cooked. Therefore then a recommended / injunction in the middle of freedom that women should learn at home. For it was the custom of the men of the Corinthian lands to do so.
Especially in Cyprus we still see this. A woman is never in a cafene as it is called. If she walks, she's a whore. There are only men. Women do not go to cafes without their husbands. Then it must be in special cafes. They are Orthodox Christians. And hold on saints and images of gods, which are then images of people who have lived. But they believe in Jesus. Many places in Cyprus, it is the Priesthood that decides more than the President, everything must go through them. It has used to be so, but I think these days there is something about the fact that Christianity must be a separate policy. So only this country shows that the customs still exist. Believe that some groups still do this among the Jews. They have it from the Law of Moses.
BUT were we not set free, Did not Jesus take and set us all free when He rose from the dead? Both men and women? Or can I say Women and Men. Some are still clinging to this. Let it be far away from us the free family!
It is very sad to hear about these male-dominated relationships around the world.
Here is a scripture I just found for you : Psalms 25:16-18
I believe you can forgive now. Matthew 6:14, Mark 11:25,
In the last few years GOD has placed forgiveness on my thoughts for people, some had already passed. Some wrongs I had forgotten but as I remembered, GOD would remind me to forgive.
There are moments we have deep regrets, especially when a loved one is passed on. I have prayed similarly as you & felt peace because nothing is impossible with GOD, Luke 1:37, Mark 10:27, Luke 18:27, Matthew 19:26,
If I may give another understanding of why Jesus told Peter "Get the behind me Satan". We find this in Matthew 16:23 and Mark 8:33. It may seem that Satan was influencing Peter, but Satan wanted Jesus to be killed because that would stop Jesus the Messiah from setting up the kingdom on earth, God's plan was hidden, even from the disciples.
Everyone and the disciples thought when the Messiah came, He would set up the Kingdom and set up the new world order. Jesus told them several times He would be killed and be resurrected, Matthew 16:21Matthew 17:22-23Mark 8:31Mark 9:31-32Mark 10:32-34. In Luke 9:44-45 it was hidden from them until He was resurrected Luke 24:6-8, and later the Holy Spirit would bring all remembrance to them, John 14:26.
The understanding of those sayings was hidden, and Peter took Jesus aside and was saying surely God would have mercy and not let this happen. Jesus turned away and when He said what He did all the disciples heard what He said. The word Satan was originally a common noun meaning adversary.
The disciples were amazed Jesus was going to Jerusalem and they were afraid Mark 10:32. Even though they were told what was going to happen it was hidden they did not have a clue, they were still looking for Jesus to overthrow the Romans and set up the kingdom. That was the reason they all scattered when Jesus was arrested and Peter's denial, they all were devastated and shocked because the Messiah when He came was to set up the kingdom not to be killed.
Jesus' response to Peter and the disciples was drastic but it was a message relevant to them all, a message they all needed to hear to get them through what was shortly to happen. One other thing, when Jesus came it was for the lost sheep of Israel only, even after Pentecost it was still for the house of Israel until the mystery of the gospel of grace was revealed.
Jesus only lost one, Judas who He called the son of perdition, John 17:12.
They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed. This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them. O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
Psalm 23:5-6
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
Mark 10:18
And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.
Nahum 1:17
The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.
James 1:17
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
1 Timothy 4:4-5
For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, IF it be received with thanksgiving: For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
Romans 12:2
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind (Bible), that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Dear "Lyda Bonfd" i'm really sorry for all the injustice you've experienced. I will try to comfort u, you are a Christian with all your heart. What was the Lord promising those who follow Him?
Mark 10:28 Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee.
29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's,
30 But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.
So if you read and understand, you should love knowing that Jesus will reward you with much more than what you have lost.
God hates all injustice. And He lover those who Love Him in Jesus Name. Or He tries to tell you something more, do not give up dear sister. Search for what He wants to tell you! You can try and seek the Lord for what He says about Tithing. It may give you some Aha experiences. You can seek Him at any time, He will listen to you. He will let you understand, so remember that you must be responsive as well. God bless us all in Jesus name too understand what His will are. Fill yourself with the love of God so that you can forgive, for your own sake. Pray for and receive a forgiven heart.
Philippians 2:14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:
15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
Amen in Jesus Christ holy Name above all other names. Love u in Christ
Numbers 20:7-12, is a portion of the whole story & reason.
Let's look at the bigger picture:
Numbers 20:12, please note it says "Because you believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore._._" , Please read Exodus, Moses' doubts: Exodus 3:11,13, Exodus 4:1,3,10,14, Exodus 4:24-26, Exodus 5:22, Exodus 6:12, Exodus 6:30, Exodus 14:11-15, Exodus 16:2-28, Exodus 17:2-7, Exodus 32:11-19,30,31,32,33, Exodus 33:1-3, Numbers 11:1-15, mercy ( Numbers 11:16-20,) Numbers 11:21-23, * Numbers 13, Numbers 13:30,31,32, * Numbers 14, very significant I believe, when they were supposed to take the promised land please read Numbers chapters 13 & 14, & notice: Numbers 13:30, Numbers 14:24, Numbers 14:22-23,
Mark 10:13-16 and Matthew 18:1-14 are two different occasions on which Jesus used actual little children to teach his disciples that they must become like children if they want to enter the kingdom of heaven and the importance of actual little children to Jesus and His Father.
In Mark's case the disciples rebuked parents to hinder them from bring their little children to be blessed by Jesus, and Jesus rebuked His disciples. In Matthew's case the disciple wanted to know who was the greatest in the kingdom of heaven and Jesus called a little child to Himself to teach them.
From Matthew 18:4 we learn the greatest in the kingdom of heaven humbles himself as that little child did when he that came to Jesus' call. The child's response was unquestioning, trusting and innocent. In Mark 10:17-31 we get the account of the rich young ruler that wanted to be justified. He claims to have kept the commandments since his youth, but knew he still lacked something. Jesus loved him, but when Jesus gave him the call to sell all he had to become rich in heaven and to pick up the cross and follow Him, he walked away disappointed. He was not a child of God, since little children don't possess anything under their own authority, they must get everything from their father. The rich young ruler chose the visible wealth he gained from his earthly father and his own initiative over the unseen, but far more valuable, wealth offered by being a born again follower of Christ and His Father. The disciples were astounded by this requirement, even though they had pretty much done what he asked when He called them. They must have still been holding on to some hope that earthly wealth and power like the rich man had would be part of the future Christ would bring them. It wasn't until they finished carrying the cross and received their riches in heaven as Christ did. The health and wealth gospel is not taught by Christ. The crucified and poor gospel is the narrow way to eternal life.
Hi Donna. You may get other views on this passage ( Matthew 3:13-15), & no, yours is a very good question & nothing to be ashamed of, because the reasons for His Baptism are not given, except that He had said that "it (this special baptism) becometh us to fulfil all righteousness".
So we see that both John the Baptist & Jesus are included in His statement. John too was involved in this great & mysterious act. I see several things that are in Jesus' Mind & it certainly wasn't that He needed to be baptized for repentance, as you wrote. As people who were conscious of their sins & in response to John's call came to be baptized, Jesus comes along as well. As people looked inwardly to their sin-sick hearts, Jesus was looking upward to doing His Father's Will & to prepare for the long road ahead that ultimately meant the securing of those people's salvation, by faith in Him.
So I see that Jesus' baptism was that first step - a public declaration to John & others present, receiving the Father's Approval & the Spirit's empowering, the water being the medium to signify His death & burial ( Mark 10:38), a vivid testimony to Himself that there was no turning back - the Cross was before Him, & for the institution of baptism for believers to declare this same testimony of death to self, a new life in the risen Christ, & a walk of faith till the end. At that moment in time, as John was using water towards repentance, Jesus was there using water towards salvation.
And as John was a witness to all these things, so all sinners coming to Jesus for salvation, must be witnesses to His offering of Himself (a witness from the Word and the Spirit). Many, for other reasons, come to Christ & do not truly believe in the full Personhood of Christ, even some Church ministers as we have read of. Unless every sinner coming to Jesus believes the Jesus as shown in the Word & confirmed deep in the heart by the Holy Spirit, then salvation is spurious & maybe just a wishful crutch to hang onto.
Hallo Grae :) Good question personally I think only God has the answer to this. We know that God has not forgotten them.
Many that are first shall be last; and the last first." Mark 10:31
It is Jesus who says these words in connection with the fact that everything is possible for God. Among other things, Jesus says in the passage here: in Mark 10:24
God bless us in Jesus name and in time we will understand all. Be happy and stay saved in Jesus Holy Name.
verses 46-52 is about Persevarancing Faith of the meek, who uses whatever Resourses ,forsaking objections and Making Specific Request of God in FAITH .
Matthew 20:23 answers your question quite plainly, God the Father has prepared a seat on His right hand for His Son Jesus,
Matthew 20:23 "And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father."
Mark 10:40 "But to sit on my right hand and on my left hand is not mine to give; but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared."
Mark 16:19 "So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God."
Luke 12:32 "Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom."
Luke 22:24-30 "And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me;" "That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel."
Dear Brother, Yes, so true everything you write. I read a promise today, and thought: Jesus is not exactly gracious here or He Is! Thank the Lord Jesus.
Mark 10:24 And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!
25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
26 And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved?
27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.
28 Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee.
31 But many that are first shall be last; and the last first.
He is in control, so are we who are filled with the Spirit of Love and His wisdom.
Be blessed in the holy name of Jesus Christ. And have a real Merry Christmas you and yours.

31 But many that are first shall be last; and the last first.
He is in control, so are we who are filled with the Spirit of Love and His wisdom.
Be blessed in the holy name of Jesus Christ. And have a real Merry Christmas you and yours.
